People in Foggy Bottom’s communications shop really seem to think that those enslaved Iraqi Christians are super-interested in Jen Psaki's Instagram.... Sure, it is easy to be hard on the Obama administration’s press people. The have the undesirable task of putting a serious face on an administration whose conduct is usually laughably unserious. But if Foggy Bottom seems particularly hapless recently, blame it on the Department of State’s dotty duo.As Ian Tuttle notes, these two gigglebrained Sweathearts of Delta Chi are particularly bad faces to front for the president's own incoherent, girlish program -- precisely because they're so perfect for it. Marie Harf, meanwhile, will not have her non-existent reputation sullied, and she's firing back at critics, defending her remarks about giving the Libyan Beach Decapitated Head Vollyball teams some jobfairs and Mock Interviews. She says that if she made any mistakes, it was in making arguments that are too nuanced for you dummies to understand. That's right -- Princess Daddygirl just called you dumb.
"So you suggested that maybe if you find these young men jobs, they might not become terrorists?" Blitzer asked, echoing her critics, prompting Harf to call his statement a "gross oversimplification." "We cannot kill every terrorist around the world, nor should we try," Harf said later. "How do you get at the root causes of this? It might be too nuanced an argument for some, like I've seen over the last 24 hours some of the commentary out there, but it’s really the smart way that Democrats, Republicans, our partners in the Arab world think we need to combat it." Asked how she's dealing with the criticism she has been receiving for her comments, Harf said, "I don’t read it."Regarding that last question: The idea of female equality will take a giant step forward when women are not routinely asked how they're managing routine things expected of men, like not murdering themselves due to job criticism. We saw the same syndrome in the case of Sandra Fluke -- if she's not capable of standing up to a barb from Rush Limbaugh, then she's not qualified to serve as a spokesman for anything. Everything with liberal professional women turns into "How are you holdin' up, Sweetie?" Either they are adult women and free citizens equal to men or they remain Daddy's Little Girls in need of male protection. They cannot be both, depending on circumstances, and depending, more importantly, on Democratic affiliation. (Such solicitousness for the ladyfeelz most emphatically does not apply to conservative women.) This constant solicitation of women's feeeeelz whenever they come under scrutiny or criticism -- note that every anti-GamerGate story is about how Anita Sarkesian can possibly endure mean people on Twitter -- strongly suggests to me that most liberal men and especially liberal women emphatically do not believe in the equality of the sexes, but still treat one sex as basically the Child Version of men. Imagine reporters asking Bush, constantly, how he felt about all the criticism he was experiencing as president, and how he felt about his critics. But watching the two of them, between Harf and Psaki, I actually think that Harf might be -- get this -- the smart one.

Amen! I wear pearls because I like them. I actually don't like it when Mooch wears them. I am going to be a freaking Grand Dame if it kills me, and this move across the country just might as I am teetering on the edge and moody and have near morning sickness with stress. So Harfo and Wilma are good targets for my snark.
One fashion trend I have seen is wearing a tunic with tights and jeans and statement necklaces...like their entire jewelry box. And they are not young.
I don't have daughters but don't think they'd like me dressing like them. I knew one divorcee Mom who did this. Oh! And her daughters had big bazoombas showing, not kidding, five inches of boobage and thinking they were dressed for success. My husband also has nieces who let the cleavage out for air. I guess, had I ever been blessed with a daughter, I'd dress her as a pilgrim. Nothing against boobs, morons, but hail. Even my eyes go there when they don't want to...and my husband is mortified as, well, his niece.
I don't recall either Harfo or Wilma showing boobage, but guess the glasses and statement necklace are meant to draw eyes upwards.

I was reading a book based on fiction, as that is my escape from the reality of my soon-to-be homelessness if husband keeps on marching West without my finding a home. Anyway, the book is Nowhere Else On Earth by Josephine Humphreys and has been good. Based on Indians living in NC during Civil War and the caste system of the time. Anyway, the Union, bless their hearts, tried to bomb a Reb fort, Fort Fisher (this was their first try, the second time blew them to smithereens). It was night and they disguised one of their boats as a blockade runner, lit the fuse, and it blew ten times stronger than they thought and killed their own men. The Rebs? Thought it was thunder, went back to sleep, and realized they won a battle the next day. For some reason I like this, evil Redneck Queen that I am. So I hope the entire bunch of camel jocks are Wylie Coyote when the time comes to light the big one. Dam them. I guess I will give up cussin and weeping for Lent. xoxo

They are so purposefully DUMB, it actually makes it hard to get any meaning out of their press briefings. And this is on purpose.
The State Dept. has so deliberately made this so dumb as to make their policies and statements incomprehensible.
As the years go by, I expect this to recognized as a 'political' stroke of genius, to make people become so bored with government and what their message is, that they deliberately start to ignore this.

Yeah, she went from analyst to spokesperson at the CIA. There was a thread here some time back that looked into her history. I tried to find it today but didn't have much luck. I think we may have determined that she was incompetent as an analyst so she was moved to spokesperson, so her intelligence analysis wouldn't get anyone killed.

My husband's grandmother is crazy. I think now she may be actually crazy, but she's always been on the edge. Anyway, my husband has a cousin who was married at the time to a woman who makes Harf look like a genius. Not only was this idiot and idiot, she was also just a terrible person all around.
So Granny was sitting around with us all at a family get together and the cousin's wife comes over and says something like "Oh man, I know when this baby comes things are going to be really hard."
Granny looks at her dead in the eye and says "Oh, Clarissa, it's not like you take care of the children you already have."
