Here's the weekly Ziegfeld Girl, Rubye De Remer: http://goo.gl/ERSpBY Here's what David S. Shields wroteon Rubye De Remer at his"Broadway Photographs" site: Rubye DeRemer (1892-1984) Blonde silent star Rubye DeRemer was born and educated in Denver, but heeding the advice of a family friend headed to New York City to seek fame and fortune. She won a place in the 1917 Ziegfeld Follies and became one of the featured girls in the 1918 Midnight Frolic. Weber and Fields in the spring of 1918 enticed her from the Amsterdam Theater's rooftop with the promise of speaking as well as dancing parts in their revue, "Back Again." Yet reciting dialogue would not be De Remer's path to fame. From her days as a Follies chorine she had worked on the side during the daytime as an actress for various New York-based film companies. Certain of these films - The Auction Block and Ashes of Loves - found an audience. She was signed by the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company, who presented her in feature after feature as an incarnation of feminine passion. Her greatest success was in 1922s The Unconquered Woman. She retired at the peak of her powers in 1923 after playing the lead in Don't Marry for Money, and spent years indulging her passion for breeding German Shepherds. Here she is again: http://goo.gl/OaY3ip Now, for you Three Stooges fans, a couple of birthdays to celebrate - Sunday the 15th is the birtday of Stooge foil Bud Jamison: http://goo.gl/gFIL0t And Monday the 16th is the birthday of Stooge antagonist Vernon Dent: http://goo.gl/YWFWis And since I'll be spending Monday digging out of a foot or more of snow, I won't see you until Tuesday. Vic, I have no doubt at all you have way more experience in fire suppression, but my 'agency' had to spend megabucks to remove Halon systems from our computer rooms. Halon works by sucking up all the oxygen in a space, so if you're a breathing organism in there, it's lights out. In an engine compartment, it can't be beat, but does not play well with humans. I'm sure not saying a massive dose of CO2 is "better for you," but Halon is safe to use only in machine-only zones. If men were trapped inside a Halon discharge area, I'm thrilled that they lived. That sock of yours reminds me of one of Teddy Roosevelt's greatest speeches. In it, he analyzed the cause of the fall of the Roman Republic. He said that the Republic fell not because of the law, but because of the people. The Roman plebeian that had once willingly joined the legions to fight for the Republic had become a lazy, idle creature that was only interested in free bread and decadent entertainments, that sold his vote to the highest bidder. Though the law was the same, the people behind the laws had changed, and when Caesar came, the law counted for nothing. Posted by: Cato at February 13, 2015 07:24 AM (J+mig) 120

It is not something you want to hang around in but it will not suffacate you like CO2 will. We had both Halon and CO2 systems at our plant. The CO2 was an older system that was originally installed. The worst thing about the Halon system was the loud noise it made when it discharged. That and the cost to replace the cylinders. We had a contractor go in and do some welding w/o telling anyone and he caused the system to discharge. It cost a fortune to replace the cylinders and while we were waiting on the new cylinders we had to station a 24 hour fire watch which cost another fortune. The Smoking Gun article on Sharpton is important. This would be an excellent point to pressure NBC on, to target the barely-literate Al, but also the corrupt 'news' organization and network that's given him a platform.
And make it known that 'Reverend' Al got stung by the FBI trying to arrange drug deals with the Mafia. And if there is no God, it's extremely presumtious of us to think that this is the only rock it happened on. There's a really good book called "At Home in the Universe" by Stuart Kaufman. His thrust is that we shouldn't think of our existence as this completely freakish thing that barely could have happened. He explains at a chemistry level why proteins want to bond in chains, what things make them organize themselves into RNA and DNA. Frankly, most of it is over my head. And it's not a God or no-God book. It's about the rules of the universe. (My concept of God is the creator of those rules). So if the universe is organized to produce life there must certainly be other life in it. Posted by: Bandersnatch at February 13, 2015 08:31 AM (JtwS4) 194

Now it's between Texas & Arizona. I crossed AZ off list but many counties in Texas have water ban of only one hour a day in a week because of drought.
I am now willing to look at Arizona. ___________________ Lots of nice places here. There are Tucson suburbs like Marana and Oro Valley that are very quiet and nice, with relatively cheap housing prices. Or if you really want to be away from the city, you could go out to Green Valley. We've had a pretty wet winter this year in my area (Tucson), and the last winter I saw snow here was three years ago (and it all melted off the cactus within 5 minutes, which was good because I gave away my snow shovel years ago!).
