My SMOD, My SMOD, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me? [CBD]

Your labor is not your own...it is the Leviathan's....

A man owned a small farm in Vermont. The Vermont Labor Board claimed he was underpaying his help, so they sent an agent down to interview him.

"I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," demanded the agent.

"Well," replied the farmer, "there's my farm hand -- I pay him $200 per week plus free room and board.

The cook has been here a bit more than a year and I pay her $150 every week plus free room and board.

Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours per day and does about 90% of the work.

He makes $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night.

And, once in a while, he's pretty sociable with my wife."

"That's the guy I want to talk to -- the half-wit," says the agent.

"You're talking to him," replied the farmer.

OK, the reasoning of that tweeter is just frightening. It is the polar opposite of independent, can-do American ideals. You do not owe anyone a job nor access to your wealth (or the government). Next they'll say your spouse is performing sex work and you should pay her/him for each encounter, along w/whatever applicable tax for the labor.

22 So Little VIA shares that they have been taking a health survey in his 11th grade class.

And he shares that one of the questions was if a student has had unprotected sex.

I responded to ask if the question specifically mentioned that the sex was with another person.

He smiled.

Then he shared the question about drinking alcohol, and tobacco use.

I pointed out that consumption of alcohol and possession of tobacco by a minor were both crimes. And were they asking students to incriminate themselves.

He smiled again.

I think I will be getting a call from the school next week.

35 If we are now figuring out the "opportunity cost" for taxes in how people spend their lives, then I am delighted, absolutely delighted, at the millions and more that I am costing the American State. Everyday is a victory now, and life is worth living.

Finally, think of all the cigarette taxes non-smokers are trying to avoid paying. Don't they know about their civic duties? Shouldn't they start huffing a Marlboro? And non-drinkers of alcohol? Where is their desire to do things together? And what of those trying to conserve energy? Energy is taxed. Have they no concern for others?

I think it was Dave Barry who first clued me that Vee-aug'-ruh is pronounced to rhyme with Niagra - on purpose. I did learn eventually that "khan-yay" and Kanye were the same person.

So, help a cultural recluse out here. How do you pronounce "Suge"? Is it "sooge" (rhymes with rouge, and I can't believe rouge gets mentioned two threads in a row) or "suggy" (like snuggie) or "sudge" (rhymes with sludge) or...? probation Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian at January 31, 2015 09:02 AM (9kWyt)

Yeah, got called in because the some sick kid in my oldest girl's class (senior at the time) had taken a bunch of photos of my kid's (fully clothed) backside on his phone. I live in a small town and everyone knows me, and found out later that the school admin was scared to death of calling me in and telling me about this, but to their credit, they did it anyway. Had a chat with the lad's father a few days later and made my stance quite clear. I'm over 6 ft and 220 lbs and an ex-basketball player - I just made sure he understood the situation. The fucker moved away the following month.

Parenting is tough enough regardless, but even tougher if you have pretty daughters. Amazing number of sick fucks out there (of all ages).

122 Nevergiveup, that leaves Cole, Hite, and Thatcher as the last surviving Doolittle Raiders.

Cole was Doolittle's co-pilot. So bailed out over a dark China when the plane ran out of fuel.

Hite was one of the eight Raiders captured by the Japanese. While locked in solitary confinement for over three years; three of the eight were murdered by firing squad on trumped up war crimes, one died of malnutrition, DeShazer returned to Japan after the war as a Christian missionary, and Hite himself say his weight plummet to 80lbs.

David Thatcher was the top turret gunner on Ted Lawson's B-25, seventh launched, The Ruptured Duck. After crash off the Chinese coast, it was Thatcher who tended to the grievously injured Lawson and others in crew. Thatcher was also the one who found help.

And now that's he's Mr Inevitable, the Boston Globe is out with a giant hit piece on Jeb Bush's teenage years:

A classmate, Peter Tibbetts, told The Boston Globe that he smoked marijuana for the first time with Bush in the woods near their dorm at the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. Later, he told the newspaper, he smoked hashish with the future governor while the two of them listened to the song Magic Carpet Ride.

The story comes from a lengthy profile of Bush published by the newspaper that details his time at the private boarding school, which was also attended by his father and brother, Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. It depicts Bush as a student who struggled with his studies in his early years.

The article also includes stories from students saying Bush, who was tall and physically imposing, was something of a bully as a high schooler. Tibbetts told the Globe that he had helped Bush sew pajama pants belonging to a smaller boy shut so that the boy could not wear them.

146 Minimum wage is also a form of price control on labor, which is why those dreaded terms, "wage and price" go together.

The problem is that the concept most people have is that it is seen as a form of economic justice: Labor is supposed to be the basis of value in an Marxist economic regime, but there are laborers who get very little relative value out of it. This makes it morally sound to insist on a floor for prices, no matter what the actual economic reality is. (not all the time, by the way, the unions tout raised MW at times as a minor element in the actual cost of production, but they only give that out to consumers when opponents of raising MW argue that it will raise store pricing)

This whole system is so destructive to people who want to work and do better for themselves and their families. People who are happy to sacrifice today to live much better tomorrow. Instead we have the social engineers trying to make everyone equal and that means people never getting out of minimum wage, never finding sufficient work to better their lives, and the low-end jobs being filled with competent workers who in a sane world would be promoted - but won't be because no business can afford to expand it's labor force because of the cost of labor.

I don't begrudge a successful CEO his salary, after all if they are successful they are making their company lots of money which means the employees are well paid and getting their bonuses and the investors are getting a good return. What I hate is the ones who run their companies into the ground and then get the golden parachute. I guess at some point it's cheaper to pay them to leave.

Well, here's the dealio.

All of these Big Brains(TM) can't seem to see, that everything is not one thing, which is a simple lesson the Dims learned long ago.

I more or less consider, at this point in the game, that Palin should be our sides' Al Sharpton.

Al talks stupidly, acts stupidly. By any objective measure he is a clown.

However, Sharpton is also very very effective at motivating a large group of Democrat voters.

So, the Democrat party embraces him-

because he can help them win elections.

I'm sure there are many Democrats who find Sharpton's stupidity and greasy opportunism -

oh-so-painful-dear-boy-bring-me-my-fainting-couch

but he helps them win elections

so they put on a good public face towards him.

Throwing away a weapon like Palin is simply stupid.

Even if you find her déclassé *sniff, sniff*

I hope Perry or Cruz can find a way to use her in their quest for the White House.

Properly applied, she could definitely help either of them win.

No, but I have had coffee on Navy bases. Back when I was a young sprout going through a multiservice training program on a Navy base, The coffee pot was empty so when I went to make coffee and saw how wretched and disgusting the inside of the thing was I started to clean it. A couple of sailors came in and were horrified to see what I was doing. They claimed that it was an abomination and they took the pieces from me, bravely holding back the tears as they put the clean components back together and made a new batch of coffee.

Recently I was doing some work on a Navy base. After the first day, I always brought a thermos of my own coffee. Navy traditions like rum, sodomy and the lash may be gone but the tradition of vile coffee lives on.

The U.S. Army has deleted a tweet that used the term "chinks" in armor after people freaked out that the same word can be used in a completely different context as a racial slur against people of Chinese descent.

"Chinks in special ops digital and physical armor poses challenges, experts say," the tweet read, followed by a link to a news release about how terrorists using social media has left a hole our countrys defenses.

An outraged tweet storm then occurred, followed by our first line of defense folding.

Which is why I no longer consider myself a Republican and despise 99.9999999% of the party's politicians. Of course, I hate the donkey party with the heat of a thousand suns, so there's that.

However, the GOPe are responding to what they perceive a majority of the voters want (I'm not so certain that the pols are wrong). But Uncle Sugar is broke and the wheels are coming off the Big Gubmint bus. In a perverse way, I think the existential threat of the Mohammadans is what is going to break the back of the Progressives' dream of a transnational Socialist utopia. Who says God doesn't have a flair for the ironic?

227 @ blaster. On the Punisher themed gun. Do you also wear Spiderman Underoos? I mean, doing up a perfectly fine gun, in a 12 year old's wet-dream of a cartoon badass..... specifically does not say "badass", but rather, the opposite.

Yeah, I'm sure there's some SEAL or USMC Recon Scout out there who enjoys the same logo being on his gear. More power to him, too, as he can likely back-up the meme of the theme, and then some.

It's like if I put a "43" sticker on my car, and wanted everyone to think of Richard Petty when they see my smooth ride. Uh huh.

IF you want to truly personalize a gun? Your 1911? Spend the money on quality parts and/or gunsmithing. Something like having Turnbull do a flame-blue on all the through-pins, thumb and grip safety, and slide release.

Or similarly, invest in a Kart match-barrel, with fitted bushing. Or Heinie "Straight-Eight" sights.

Back in the late '60s, guys would put "STP" stickers on their cars. It didn't make 'em go any faster. Only stuff from Holley, Edlebrock, Thrush and others, did that.

I was making a play on Matthew 4:8 -4:9:

"Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world..."

It is a classic alliteration. My head is full of this dross, like a PG Wodehouse book but with less humor.
