But huge snowfalls are common on this day in history. 1887 saw a huge snowfall in MT, 1922 saw a huge snowfall in Washington DC that caused the collapse of the Knickerbocker theater, and 1977 saw the blizzard of 77 which dumped 10 feet of snow on upstate NY. You know, I'm pretty opposed to the death penalty (for the same reason I oppose euthanasia and abortion), but since we here in Virginia have voted for it, I'd like to propose a few changes:

- Execute child rapists/predators
- Execute people like we MEAN it. We put our dogs to sleep because we love them so much, yet treat criminals the same way.

Target spent the equivalent of more than $4 billion setting up its Canadian operations, which now encompass 133 stores and 17,600 employees, and endured $2.5 billion in losses there over the past two years. But the effort was undermined by a series of errors--from poor store locations to bad pricing decisions--and Target recently determined that the red ink couldn't be stopped for another six years.

Many issues caused this failure.
- Canada's import laws are harsh, and expensive - a lot is blocked, so the stores couldn't fill the shelves with what Canadians typically found in the US stores.
- the prices were too high, compared to the US and competing stores
- they tried (probably forced) into putting a lot of Canadian stuff on the shelves, but that isn't what people wanted. They wanted what the US had on their shelves.

That is the new version of smash and grab. They steal a car or truck and then use it to batter through a window or a wall to get to the goods. Stores in these peaceful cities filled with honest citizens are going to have to fortify their sidewalks with those concrete bollards.

That is actually something that the US has the military capacity to accomplish. Pick a city that is firmly in ISIS control and where the overwhelming majority of people support ISIS. Render that city into a smoking hole, either with darken the sky B-52 raids or by delivering a single nuke. Pick another city and repeat. The people living in ISIS areas will have a real incentive to drive ISIS out.

151 Speaking of Blizzards, the Great Blizzard of 1978 occurred was this week, hitting the Ohio Valley on January 25. I was a junior high student living in central Ohio at the time, and I remember it well.

School-age kids living in places where it snows are well acquainted with the concept of snow days. Ohio state law provided for up to 5 "calamity days" which were days that we didn't have to go to school and wouldn't have to make up at the end of the year. Every time that significant snow was forecast, we all (students and teachers) would stay up way past our bedtime, expecting to roll out of bed and listen to the school closings on the radio, secure in the knowledge that we could go back to bed to rise again at a more civilized hour to go outside and enjoy the freedom the weather had given us.

Of course, what always happened when we got up in the morning was that the temperature would be 60 degrees and there would be sunshine and chirping birds and we would have to drag our sorry asses to school and sleepwalk through the rest of the day.

The weather on January 24 was mild, as I recall. It was around 50 degrees with mist and fog. So, when the forecasters were calling for lots of snow the following day, I decided I was going to go to bed early and be the only person in the school not stumbling around like a zombie in a daze. So, what did my eyes see when I got up and looked out the window toward the road that ran in front of my house? Well, it wasn't the road, 30 or 40 yards away. Instead, it was a blur of swirling white. The wind blew so hard it broke the anemometer at the airport and they closed school for a week because the drifts were higher than the buses.

I was, however, well-rested that day.

By placing a towel over the top of the radiator, you interrupt the rising air currents, reducing the effectiveness of the radiator in transferring heat from the surface of the radiator to the room air, as well as the development of the rising currents of air.

You would be amazed at the reduction in efficiency caused by the dust that tends to develop at the bottom rear of many radiators over time.

In the old days, one could hold a burning cigarette over a clean, unobstructed radiator, and watch the effect of the rising column of warm air. And then go to a radiator where the air currents are blocked, and see the dramatic reduction in currents and heat flow.

I guess one could do the same with an incense stick if one wished.

However, the sad fact is that voter fraud does not account for the large number of assholes who bought the line of shit that this sociopath was selling, not once but twice.
