Wikipedia Bans Five Social Justice Warriors From Editing Gamergate Articles, or Any Articles Having to Do With Gender or Sexuality, Broadly Defined

They're the worst sort of parasite. A normal parasite comes in to get a free meal. You don't want that, of course, but you can survive a certain number of parasites.

These parasites, however, come in with the express agenda of destroying the host.

Wikipedia's arbitration committee, the highest user-run body on the site, has banned five editors from making corrections to articles about feminism, in an attempt to stop a long-running edit war over the entry on the "Gamergate controversy".

The editors, who were all actively attempting to prevent the article from being rewritten with a pro-Gamergate slant, were sanctioned by "arbcom" in its preliminary decision. While that may change as it is finalised, the body, known as Wikipedia's supreme court, rarely reverses its decisions.

The sanction bars the five editors from having anything to do with any articles covering Gamergate, but also from any other article about "gender or sexuality, broadly construed".

...

In contrast, he says, "by my informal count, every feminist active in the area is to be sanctioned. This takes care of social justice warriors with a vengeance -- not only do the Gamergaters get to rewrite their own page (and Zoe Quinn's, Brianna Wu's, Anita Sarkeesian's, etc); feminists are to be purged en bloc from the encyclopedia."

The Social Justice Warriors aren't merely toxic, vicious drama queens and borderline personality types looking to "split" other people; they're avowedly that, and consider this sort of ugly disruption to be a kind of high calling.

Don't believe me? Read this.

Meanwhile, Christine Hoff Summers traces the current fake, made-up "Rape Culture" disruption -- just a ploy to achieve disruption; not a real epidemic -- to 2010, when, get this, NPR conspired to cook up an SJW storyline.

And it all began in 2010. That year, reporters at National Public Radio teamed up with the left-leaning journalism organization Center for Public Integrity (CPI) to produce and promote a 104-page "investigative reporting series" (PDF) entitled "Sexual Assault on Campus: A Frustrating Search for Justice." (Full disclosure: The Daily Beast is an occasional publishing partner of CPI's.)

...

On the evening of April 4, 2004, according to the NPR/CPI version of events, [Laura] Dunn, then a freshman and member of the crew team at the University of Wisconsin, consumed so many raspberry vodkas at a crew party that the student-bartenders refused her more drinks. She left with two young men she trusted from her team. They planned to go to another party, but decided to make a quick stop at one of the men's apartment. According to Dunn, once they arrived, her teammates raped her as she fell in and out of consciousness. For many months, she tried to dismiss the evening as a "just a mistake." Still, she couldn’t sleep, she lost weight, she dropped out of crew.

Fifteen months later, Dunn attended a philosophy class where the professor was discussing how rape is a weapon of war. The professor suddenly stopped the lecture, turned to the students, and told them she knew many of her students had been raped, and she assured them they could do something about it. A tearful Laura Dunn told NPR’s Joseph Shapiro what happened next. "The moment that lecture let out," she said, "I walked across to the dean of students' office and I reported that day." She also reported the alleged rape to the campus police.

The investigation did not go well for Dunn. Because she reported the assault nearly a year-and-a-half after the event, one of the men had already graduated. The other insisted the encounter had been consensual, and since there were no witnesses or evidence, both the police and the university dropped the case.

This claimed violation was presented to the Department of Education as a violation of Title IX's federal guarantee that inequalities in treatment of women be resolved "equitably," and this in turn led Obama's SecEd to issue her "Dear Colleague" letter and to start putting the screws to men on campus.

However, the story isn't quite as simple as Dunn, or Obama, or Kristen Gillibrand, would have you believe:

The Dear Colleague letter created havoc, but before describing that havoc, let's check some facts. Dunn agreed to make her records public as a condition of being a part of the NPR/CPI investigation. The 18-page letter (PDF) she received from the OCR is publicly available. It gives a detailed summary of notes taken by University of Wisconsin deans as well as the local police detective. As freelance reporter Derek Rose has pointed out, it tells a very different story from the one we heard from Shapiro on NPR’s Morning Edition or from the CPI report.

To wit: When Dunn first spoke to the dean (15 months after the alleged rape), she said that "a portion of the sexual encounter was consensual." (p.5) A few days later when she spoke to a campus police detective, Dunn said twice that she did not remember being raped by one of the men (the one still on campus). She found out about it only when the men told her what happened the next day (p.6). She also told the detective that in the months after the alleged rape that she went--twice--to one of the men's residence, where they engaged in consensual "physical contact."

On one of these occasions both of the alleged assailants were at the apartment and they all watched television together. (p.6) None of these details were mentioned in the NPR/CPI report.

The anomalies continue. The NPR/CPI team faulted the University of Wisconsin staff for dragging the case out for nine months—enough time for an “enraged encounter” (as related above) between the accuser and one of the accused men. According to the CPI team, when Dunn ran into the young man at a fraternity party, he stalked and threatened her. But Dunn told the police detective that she had initiated the encounter and when he walked away, she followed him into another room because she "knew he wanted to talk to her." She also admitted she had hugged him. No mention of threats. (p. 7).

The young man’s version comports with the police report, but he adds that when Dunn approached him, he was alarmed, pulled away, and told her he was afraid she would fabricate more lies. When Dunn started to scream and cry, he fled. (p.

One does not need to come to a firm conclusion as to the merits of Dunn's charges to conclude this, rather easily: That whether Dunn was raped or not, this is hardly the sort of case where you'd expect a properly-functioning trier of fact to endorse her claims about the night in question. There are too many odd facts she admits (such as "touching" her alleged rapist "physically" in several post-"rape" encounters") to find cleanly for the complaining witness.

Nevertheless, it is out of this nonsense case that the current Rape Panic was born.

When anyone in the MSM starts laughing at them...I don't think they are doing so well.

(The idiot said Adam was racist based on a quote from his character in a movie. And then tried to say that he always gets those kind of parts and must like them.)

Stoopid twitter stuff, yes. But the immediate and thorough laughter was good. Instead of getting anyone to think he's a bad guy, he was at the center of a game of "find the quote and blame the actor".

It also mentions that one of the big five who got banned had earlier done a false flag regarding a name change for Manning. The editor in question had claimed that they were against changing the name on Manning's article to "Chelsea Manning", but deliberately did so in a fashion that made those who were opposed to the change look bad.

------------------

Yes. In this case, the article seems to hint that the founder of Wikipedia is sympathetic to the gamer side of Gamergate, and he's been giving them constructive advice on how to fix the page. So at least one of the Chosen Few appears to be someone who's not going to try and slip the SJW side of things in past the edit lock.

91 Oh, and Hector's back.
Hi, Hector.

What's Gamer Gate?

Quick primer: turns out Computer Game journalists had their own "JournoList" and were using it to mock gamers while simultaneously taking bribes to promote "meh" games as really good (or, presumably, promote good games as "meh.")

The Gamers found out, got ticked, called out the Gaming Journos, and asked for an apology.

Using the time honored tactic that worked silencing Conservatives for so long, they were called names (mostly "misogynist" with a little "homophobic" and "racist" thrown in for good measure).

Gamers decided *not* to be cowed, and to fight back.

104 Part of the fake campus rape epidemic is we have two conflicting trends:

1) The ultra-pornification of America. Avg kid going off to college, both male and female, have seen staggering amounts of porn.
2) The ultra-feminist take over of college which defines everything as rape

So you get a bunch of kids who grew up saturated in porn, have a couple drinks, and decide to act out one of their internet porn fantasies. The college girls who do this fairly quickly realize they've made a terrible mistake and their brain tries to save their ego by denying the reality of what happened.

It's easier to claim rape than to admit, yeah, I figured I'd give that group sex porn fantasy a go while I was still young.

"It's not that I don't want to call myself a liberal. After all, as I
understand liberal ideals, I still believe in most of them, if not all
of them. No, I guess I'm not a liberal anymore because Bustle, The Verge, Salon, Polygon, Kotaku, Gamasutra, The Mary Sue, The NYT, The LA Times, The Washington Post and others spent the last 2 months telling me I'm no longer wantedas
an unashamed, voting liberal. They did this based on my primary hobby
and the Y chromosome I was born with. They did this after some of them
told me I was dead or needed to die for the crime of holding my primary
hobby as a part of my identity. They did this because some people I
don't know made threats against people I'd never heard of before;
subsequently, I was told I needed to die because of my Y chromosome and
my hobby.

And for what? The nebulous notion of making gaming "better" than it
is now? To stroke the sense of entitlement of self-proclaimed "game
developers"? To turn game developer into the third vocation in human
history that is competence optional behind politician and journalist (apparently)? Equality of Outcomes between AAA game development, good
independent game development, and terrible independent game
development?"

124 @71 What's Gamer Gate?
-----------------

Zoe Quinn, SJW "advocate" extraordinaire in the video gaming industry, made a "game" (and I use the term loosely in this case) called 'Depression Quest'. It got good reviews from video game journalists, but bad reviews from players. Quinn also apparently cheated on her (now ex-) boyfriend multiple times. He got ticked off at her, and posted a list of names and dates on-line.

Gamers noticed that at least one of those names was someone who had given Depression Quest a good review. They did some further digging, and discovered that some editors and other video game journalism personalities had helped to finance Quinn's game... and hadn't revealed that in the reviews that their outfits published of the game. Cynicism regarding corruption has existed for quite a while regarding video game journalism, and this particular smoking gun was apparently the straw that broke the camel's back. All Hell broke loose as a result.

Quinn, caught in a bit of a predicament, launched a counter-offensive. She claimed that the real reason for the uproar was because gamers are socially awkward, sexist, basement dwelling nerds, who feel threatened by sexually active women. And a number of SJWs came to her defense.

Things almost immediately spiraled out beyond that point, but that was the start of it.

136 I think the real problem here is the misnomer "Gamergate." It hides what the hubbub is all about, and turns off anyone who isn't an insider. It wasn't until recently that even I, someone who ought to be hep to such thing, even grasped what "Gamergate" was about.

Bad titles for things can ruin them.

Same thing happened with the Kevin Jennings scandals at the beginning of the Obama administration, when he appointed a pro-pedophilia hay extremist to be "Safe Schools Czar" for the US. It should have been a major national scandal, but someone early on gave it the unfortunate and imprecise title "Fistgate," based on a single incident when Jennings' group hand ed out instructions on fisting (annaly) to high school kids -- when that was actually the least of his malfeasances. When later more devastating scandal info came out, it was frustratingly lumped under the "Fistgate" label -- like "Fistgate Part 5!" And because of that label, the new info fizzled and was ignored mostly.

Same it true for Gamergate. It is a major cultural event which is burdened with an unfortunate limiting name.

Yup... first time in recent history that People would NOT shut up, when accused of Un PC behavior...

And it actually makes some sense that it would be this particular group who fought back.

These are the people who have been made fun of their entire lives for being Nerds, and Geeks... they are USED to being called names...

Thus, when called an unfair name... it doesn't really bite..

I know.... I am one... calling me a Racist, or Sexist??? /yawn...

Posted by: ace at January 23, 2015 02:38 PM (E+pqw)

TL;DR (my comment not yours): People are horrible and will be horrible no matter the subject.

My Unified Field Theory that everything is now Fandom.

All of these behaviors are familiar indeed to those of us who are Bitter Old Fandom Survivors. The sociopathy, the gathering of sycophants, the burning down and salting the earth of a community and then the moving on, locust like, to the next big thing whilst the survivors stare at each other and try to determine what happened while the people in the new community cast stones at you for daring to warn them that they are next.

Everything is now fandom. Politics. Art. Science. Religion. Sports. It's all the same. It's all about My Team vs. Your Team and anything the promotes My Team is good and anything that hurts Your Team is perfectly acceptable to do.

See re: my rant earlier today about the politicization of everything and me being against that.

This also brings up your point about some people needing a good punch in the face.

Idefk anymore. I despair, I despair.

Here's a link to my stop politicizing rant from this morning (I apologize for the f bombs I am trying to be better): http://bit.ly/1L53QPW

I agree with the devolution (also the Devo) theory. Mankind is tribal by genetics and adaptation. What the internet has done is remove the familial and geographical limitations on that. So now your tribe are those misfits who think like you that you never knew existed before. Be that those who like the books you like or those who share your political views. Those weirdos are your tribe and, particularly if you have been an outsider in the mundane world, you will protect that tribe with all you have.

What it has also done is permitted the 1% or .05% or whatever it is of the population who are actual sociopaths to enter into a community, destroy it, and then leave with no danger to their physical being. Yeah. That's going to go well for everyone else.

260 Part of the fake campus rape epidemic is we have two conflicting trends: 1) The ultra-pornification of America. Avg kid going off to college, both male and female, have seen staggering amounts of porn. 2) The ultra-feminist take over of college which defines everything as rape So you get a bunch of kids who grew up saturated in porn, have a couple drinks, and decide to act out one of their internet porn fantasies. The college girls who do this fairly quickly realize they've made a terrible mistake and their brain tries to save their ego by denying the reality of what happened. It's easier to claim rape than to admit, yeah, I figured I'd give that group sex porn fantasy a go while I was still young.
Posted by: Costanza Defense
Add to this the following:
1. men are being increasingly seen as targets and oppressors.
2. Fewer men in colleges. Anything ranging from outright rejection to using and losing may be more keenly felt. Competition, if it exists, is by definition more intense.

While it involved gaming, it is not about gaming. The gaming community was just one of the more recent targets, and the first one to explicitly reject the SJWs.

For the SJW's everything must be about advancing "justice".

Same it true for Gamergate. It is a major cultural event which is burdened with an unfortunate limiting name.

There is also #Metalgate, which is actually far more ironic than #Gamergate once you realize that the idea that Heavy Metal is misogynistic/racist/xenophobic/homophobic is contradicted by the fact the some of the biggest names in Metal include Judas Priest (gay lead singer), Girlschool (all female band), Living Colour (all Black), or bands like Skinflint (Botswanan band) or Chthonic (Taiwanese band).

And they won where it counts.

Gamers pointed out to some of the industry companies that the video game media was insulting gamers, and the industry companies responded. The best known response was when Intel pulled its ad campaign off of the Gamasutra website. But Intel wasn't the only company that did that. The media companies lost a lot of advertising bucks.

Some changes have been implemented at the media organizations regarding transparency and disclosure. But it'll probably only be a matter of time before this all starts up again. iirc, Buzzfeed owns almost all of the big game websites, and that site seems to exist purely to make liberalism seem to be the norm.

Here's something Yiannopoulos and everyone who encounters Weev should know: everything--and I mean everything--that Weev says is a lie, so when he says he's sorry for the damage Shanley Kane has done to the lives and careers of God knows how many people, what he really means is Geez Louise, can you rubes be stupid enough to believe I'm sorry for any of this?

Weev intended it. He made it happen. He manipulated that ridicuous twit into becoming Social Justice Warrior Woman and aimed her like a missile at the dozens of innocent lives she would ruin. Perfect example of social engineering. And, to top it all off, he gets profiled in a Breitbart interview where he manipulates Yiannopoulos into allowing him to deliver the most tongue-in-cheek mea culpa ever committed to the Internets.

A court in Germany has ruled in favour of a man's right to urinate while standing up after his landlord demanded money for damage to the bathroom floor.

But the Duesseldorf judge ruled that the man's method was within cultural norms, saying "urinating standing up is still common practice".

353 OT, but given that I almost got splattered across the road this afternoon, I think a public service announcement is in order: Namely, if you're driving, and you see a horse and rider alongside the road, do not, under any circumstances, speed past them. This goes double if the rider is having trouble controlling the animal. Treat the situation as if a small child has escaped from its parents and is running in the road; slow down and stop, and do not continue until the situation is under control and you've been waved on.

This PSA brought to you by right wing whippersnapper, who is unhurt but doesn't know why her horse copped an attitude in the middle of the state road this afternoon, and is really pissed at the guy in the black SUV, who was apparently in quite a hurry. Combine booze, drugs, self-indulgent, emotionally immature young men and women, and a society that promotes promiscuity, and you get lots of poorly thought out, irresponsible sex.

Don't get me wrong, I hate rapists with a vengeance. If a guy rapes a woman, I have no problem with her shooting him. But when I was in college I knew a couple of women who drank too much, screwed men they had just met at a party, and felt like shit about it in the morning. However, they didn't call it rape. It's telling that the Ministry of Mattresses at UVa is demanding guards on bedrooms. Student guards. We're back to single sex dorms, but only in frat houses. When a male Occidental College student took the school to court over a false rape charge, the judge asked this very question. The response from the college's lawyer was somewhat along the lines of (paraphrasing and distilling), "You're kidding, right?"

384 I took a couple of classes in college. My randomly assigned roommate (I was in the dorms that year), by coincidence, also signed up for it. I had the easy instructor. He got the instructor that pushed them so hard on the first day ("This is what you'll feel like after a full day at a fencing tournament!") threw up immediately after class.

427 So... Chris Beck in the side bar.

Why should I care that he's being eaten by the left? Also- that's not "Swiftboating." All of the Swiftboat allegations were demonstrably true, the fact that the Left didn't want to believe them is different.

But any support I have for him is lost in his inability to see the difference between SJW scolds condemning Margaret Cho (who deserves condemning as *unfunny* not as a racist), and people quite rightly pointing out that Lena Dunham was admitting to, at the very least, indecency with a minor (he calls her book: "a frank memoir chronicling her childhood sexual experimentation").

His entire protestation is, "But I am Of The Tribe! I can say 'shibboleth.' I think those conservatives are 'extreme right wingers!' Why are they doing this to me?"

Well, f*ck that. You don't get my sympathy simply because your tribe has turned on you. You certainly don't get it while you're trying simultaneously to claim victim status while still trying to harm *my* tribe.
