Good morning, pretty Hordelings.

So, here's what I've learned about Saudi succession. The dead king, the new demented king, and the crown prince who's actually been running the place are all sons of Ibn Saud.

Saud had 38 sons by his 22 wives. (That's total wives, he only had four at a time). Now the last of these, the Crown Prince, is 69. So succession has always been well managed, based on consensus as to which of the remaining sons is best for the job.

I have an inkling that in ten years or so when the last son dies things might get messy.

Meet the Radical Brownies* Girl Scouts for the modern age

The girls, ages 8 - 12, are part of the Radical Brownies, an edgier, younger version of the Girl Scouts, where girls earn badges for completing workshops on social protests, and a beauty workshop that celebrate racial diversity.

Girls learn about social justice movements such the Black Panthers and the Chicano group Brown Berets. They wear their brown berets in homage to those two groups. But they also study how Disney princesses define girls image of beauty, and how that can affect self___.

The Radical Brownies have their own badge system, including one for Radical Beauty and an LGBT ally badge. The girls also earned a Black Lives Matter badge after learning about police accountability and attending a civil rights march in Oakland.

*The Radical Brownies are not affiliated with the Girl Scouts of the USA.

26 In the week leading up to the retreat, a diverse group of Republican
women, including Rep. Ellmers, Kristi Noem, and Cynthia Lummis, had
brought their concerns to Majority Whip Steve Scalise. They said,
according to people who were in the room, that the Pain-Capable Unborn
Child Protection Act was turning into a bill that defined rape and
distracted from the bill's intent of stopping late-term abortions. They
were livid about a clause in the bill that required a woman to have
reported sexual assault to police in order to be eligible for the
procedure.

As soon as you convince ONE DEMOCRAT of your cause that is completely out of the scope of the legitimate functions of gov't as defined in our considered founding documents, then you can still cast your anchor upon the GOP ship of state. If you cannot get a quorum across a wide spectrum of politics -- then it's by definition a narrow issue and DOA as policy.

73 They
were livid about a clause in the bill that required a woman to have
reported sexual assault to police in order to be eligible for the
procedure.
____________________________

Past experience with Democrats teaches that they will ruthlessly exploit any loophole that is written into a law. So if a law banning late-term abortions contains an exception for rape, every woman desiring a late-term abortion will be counseled (at Planned Parenthood, the local free clinic, or in the private office of the lefty abortion doctor) to claim that she has been raped.

They'll even make up a form: check "yes" here if you're seeking this late-term abortion because you were raped. It will be like the "yes" box on welfare and voting applications that ask if the applicant is a U.S. citizen, which illegal aliens are routinely instructed to check. Illegals are told that nobody will bother to verify their citizenship status, which is true. Similarly, nobody will check if the woman was actually raped, because (without a police report), there is no way to verify this.

That is why the requirement for a police report was included. Without it, the exception would quickly swallow the rule.

These Republican women who objected are either ignorant of how the left operates, or they are in favor of late-term abortions.

According to a Taliban officer named Haji Nadeem, Bergdahl helped train Taliban forces in infantry tactics and the making of bombs. So there's that.

96 Hey Pro-lifers -- you need to stop using the GOP as your pimps.

Salman immediately named his half-brother, Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, crown prince. At age 79 and reportedly suffering from dementia, Salman is clearly a caretaker. It is somewhat delicious watching Markey, Durbin, Clair-bear and the rest of the commie-crew pissing themselves silly over watching the GOP do the them what they did to the GOP for the last 8-years.

It's not about "purity" or any litmus test or whatnot. It's about finally being fed up with being told "no baby, I promise I won't do that in your mouth again" only to end up running, again, for the toilet afterward.

is clearly a caretaker. Muqrin, at age 71, will likely be the last of
the 35 children sired by King Abdulaziz bin Saud, the founder of modern
Saudi Arabia, to rule. But Muqrin's claim to the the throne is shaky,
and there may be pushback from some of the hundreds of younger princes
of the next generation. h/t americanthinker

195 So the whole purpose of the reporting amendment was to keep a check on the possibility that a non raped person would use the the rape exception as a loophole. Because it makes no difference if a person who was actually raped did or did not report it if you accept the rape exception.

That's the problem with that amendment . Whether right or wrong, it places the burden of proof on the potential rape victim and makes assumption they were not raped unless proven otherwise. Admittedly it's a catch 22 for those that want the exception but know that some people will lie.

What burden of proof? It's a reporting requirement. The police should investigate, and forward cases that they deem that are credible. DAs then use their discretion in prosecution.

If I claim to be Chief heaving Bull so that i can get a sweet, sweet job, I should be able to establish proof. that's a burden of proof.
If I make a claim on auto insurance that I was in an accident, I'm supposed to report the accident. Hell, I'm supposed to report it if I hit a deer and decide NOT to make an insurance claim.

218 Whether right or wrong, it places the burden of proof on the potential rape victim and makes assumption they were not raped unless proven otherwise.

You mean the burden of proof lies on the one asserting a crime took place, and not on the alleged perpetrator? Who'd have thunk?

That is *exactly* the point. Words cannot convey how much I abhor rape and those who commit it. Nevertheless, we're talking about taking an innocent life here (that baby didn't rape you).

When someone commits heinous murder we may not put them to death. We certainly don't do so on one person's say-so. They are granted a jury trial, at least 2 appeals (sometimes more) and usually a great deal of time in which to try to get their conviction overturned outside of appeal (see: Project, Innocence).

For babies "of rape" (something on the order of 1.5% of abortions, and I would assume an even lower percentage of all pregnancies), they receive no due process and right now the only person who has any input is the woman carrying the child (you don't get the honorific "mother" if you want to commit infanticide).

So, no, I do not think it is a particularly difficult hurdle, in light of the magnitude of the action, to require women to report when they are raped if they're going to want to abort the child half-way through the pregnancy.

Because, remember also, the reporting requirement is *only* for the *exception* to the ban after 20 weeks. Up to week 19 & 6 days, there is no reporting requirement, because elective abortion still applies.

I'm not sure I follow. The law generally does place the burden of proof on someone who wants to claim an exemption to a requirement. It isn't unusual for the law to require that before someone claims a particular status (say, wounded vet or something), that claim must be supported.

"A subtler form of corruption is that those who use kafkatraps in order to manipulate others are prone to fall into them themselves. Becoming unable to see out of the traps, their ability to communicate with and engage anyone who has not fallen in becomes progressively more damaged. At the extreme, such causes frequently become epistemically closed, with a jargon and discourse so tightly wrapped around the logical fallacies in the kafkatraps that their doctrine is largely unintelligible to outsiders."

264 a nightmare scenario for many woman -especially mothers - is pregnancy from rape.
__________________________

If a girl/woman has been raped, she almost always knows it (the exception being in rare cases where the rape took place while the woman was unconscious, as in the recent Vanderbilt case).

If the woman who has been raped does not want to report the rape to the police, for whatever reason, she is still free to get an abortion in the U.S. if the rape resulted in pregnancy (which it rarely does). Why wait until the sixth month of pregnancy to make up your mind about terminating the pregnancy? Are we supposed to believe she didn't realize she was pregnant? She was raped, then didn't notice for five months that she wasn't having a menstrual period?

Also, if a woman has been raped, wouldn't it make sense to get a physical examination soon after? Even if she doesn't want to make a police report, you'd think she might want to know if she had been infected with an STD, or was pregnant. There are lots of free clinics that will do a gynecological exam at low cost, or no cost, so the expense can't really be blamed.

There really isn't a good reason for waiting until the six month (or later) mark.

The Republican party is fully complicit in the Democrat party agenda. Their job is to split the conservative vote to insure Democrats win, or failing that to take the office themselves and to willingly allow Democrats to wield power while in office, all the while spewing fake conservative talking points when on camera, and supporting statism when off camera.
Republicans will never allow a conservative to actually do anything in office, they will never change.
The sooner we understand this and remove all public support from the Republicans the better. They are not stupid and incompetent, they are not 'doing a bad job', they are doing exactly what they intend to do; grow the power of the state and destroy individual liberty.
Fuck them.

271 What does that have to do with the non reporting bar in the rape exception amendment. The person still was raped.

No. The person *says* they were raped.

Believe it or not, little things like reporting requirements cut way down on false claims. It's way different if you have to tell the cops "I was raped," than just letting the Dr. check a box on a form.

Without the reporting requirement, the law is completely toothless. Planned Parenthood just instructs women to tell the doctor the were raped, easy peasy.

However, with the reporting requirement, that changes- especially on the PP side (who, yes, actively cover up rape- especially incestuous rape). If they have to start verifying that someone at least reported a rape, that makes that whole "actively cover up" thing much more difficult.

And? What is the possible negative of bringing the rapist to justice? Honestly though, this is so fucking stupid. Do you know how many women are raped and then decide at 22 weeks to kill their babies? I'm going with 2 ever in the history of time. It's not something that happens. But the Party of Stupid has decided to turn a bill about NOT KILLING VIABLE CHILDREN into this idiotic debate because, zomg we have to be able to kill the baby if the woman was raped, because compassion!

Abortions because of rape already happen in early pregnancy. This is all a bunch of navel gazing idiocy.

281 Are you serious. Comparing rape to an auto accident. Many women have not reported a rape for any number of reasons. A lot of the non reported cases involve family members.
Posted by: Bob Belcher
What you seek is disconnecting one aspect from another. We don't, or shouldn't encourage activities in shadows. We should encourage rape victims to report such crimes, because this is of benefit to both the victims and society.

We encourage and (penalize) the reporting/false reporting of insurance claims because these have positive and negative effects on society.
We have a stake in not destroying the meaning of the word "rape' in the case of abortion. Rape victims are not helped by trivializing a violent crime. And there's a reason why reporting laws already exist for teachers, doctors and social workers.
Please note that I'm stating that abortion should be available for victims. They had no choice. I believe that an innocent life is going to be destroyed, but women should not be forced to carry to term under such circumstances. Some have chosen to do so, and that leaves me silent and humbled.

If someone cites rape, at the very least a DNA sample should be obtained and added to the DNA datbase. That would save lives.
1. Rape is underreported. This is bad. This leads to more rapes
2. We need toc ounter this, especially by vilifying serving military officers and men in college.
3. If a woman cites rape and wants an abortion, we should take steps to NOT report or do anything that might stop other rapes.
4. Why? See line #1.

In that case, I suspect no one would be totally happy with the outcome, but-

it would be fair and it would be Constitutional.

That's about as good as it gets.

But, nooooooo.

I'm baffled by the chicken or egg nature of culture versus law. if a law is passed, it is sometimes ignored, ridiculed and it is possible to discard it.

We are seeing many laws where what follows from it has deep cultural effects. Anyone who has been fired about a facebook post can attest to this. That guy from Mozilla.

That is, suboptimal. I am being sarcastic. Clearly the girl needs family and options and perhaps counseling. And all those are denied to her. By planned parenthood. Is a 14 year old really ready to handle all that alone? No. No she isn't

It is morally defensible, in that a woman has a right to choose. By deifinition, she was denied that right. She may not be physically capable of carrying a child to term. And it may very well result in her being forced into some sort of bizarre relationship with the rapist (child support, visitation, communication). This has actually happened.

Does it result in the destruction of a life? yes.

And this is why abortion advocates loathe the topic. All of the other reasons pale into insignificance, and result in the other person involved in the consensual activity becoming a second-class citizen, if that.
Worse, to protect their lie, they have to de-humanize the lives of children being borne by women who wish to carry them. If they are attacked, and that child dies, they are told that their child is not a child. Their choice does not matter.

The only thing that matters is abortion. That's ugly, and that's why they hate to talk about it.

Posted by: Lea hates Peppa Pig but will watch it for freedom (not really) at January 23, 2015 10:39 AM (lIU4e)

407 I'ma dissect this one. Thoroughly.

It is morally defensible, in that a woman has a right to choose. By deifinition, she was denied that right.

I'm going to start with noting that just because we have the "right" to choose (I will say the option to exercise free will) does not make the choice right. That you were given no say in the initiation may place an extra burden on your psyche, but it is not right to transfer that to an innocent. (We're not even going to get into the "rape-rape" arguments. We'd be at this all damn day.)

She may not be physically capable of carrying a child to term.

That would be a medical issue, absolutely separate from the question of rape.

And it may very well result in her being forced into some sort of bizarre relationship with the rapist (child support, visitation, communication). This has actually happened.

And this shows that there are severe issues with the state of our legal system, especially vis-a-vis family law.

There was no argument in that post that actually properly touched on whether it is proper to allow the killing of an innocent in that situation. The points raised spoke to significant issues, but not that one.

Let's at least have the consistency not to confuse issues.

As to Soviets in Berlin, it doesn't frickin' matter if Berlin had a thousand abortion clinics lined up in blocks. How many do you think were operating with T-34s rolling around?
How is abortion laws in 21st century America shaped by experiences suffered 70 years ago in another continent? Most peoplein the US don't even know that it happened.

Give help and support to the woman? Make adoption a less onerous option? There's numerous ways to handle it that don't punish the innocent--few are easy, but I never promised easy.

Re: American Sniper and Selma and what not.

Stop. Fucking. Politicizing. Everything.

Stop it. Just. Stop it.

My life is no one else's political statement. It's not. I am livid at everyone else's attempts to make what I eat and what I wear and what tv shows I watch and what sports I enjoy and what video games I play into some Grand Statement Of All The Things. Who, exactly, does anyone else think they are to attempt to take from me my agency and will and determination and pat me on the head and tell me no no no sweetie this is what you really mean. Gee, thanks, I had no idea that I'd give you control of my being. Thanks for letting me know that you know what's going on in my head better than I do. No, seriously, thanks. You're awesome.

The personal is not per se political. Every single person who sees every single event through a political lens is to be held in contempt, not viewed with pity. Yes, I mean contempt. How barren is your existence, how desiccated your imagination, how boring your interior landscape to view a movie or book or song or piece of art and think first "What are the political ramifications of this?"

Spare me the oh oh but alex we have to fight back against those who do view it that way. Fine. Fight back, I mean, I, of all people, am hardly going to say don't fight. But do NOT accept the premise. Once you have? You've lost. Not only have you lost, you've tossed aside the very notion of the individual life for which you are ostensibly fighting.

Fah. A pox on everyone and everything.

422 >>It is morally defensible, in that a woman has a right to choose.

Here's the thing - I was in a position to "choose" because of my son's birth defects. There were surgeries to minimize (not fix) them, but it would be a long road. I didn't like the idea of playing God. During his 2nd surgery, when he was in so much pain I had a brief moment of doubt - had I brought him into this world only to experience such pain? But then...he fought it, just as he had been doing since he was born. The kid doesn't let anything hold him back (and I won't list all the surgeries and other fun stuff he's experienced in 11 years of life).

And the point of this is: it was never my choice, it was his. And his choice is and has always been, Hell YES. How sad that I could have denied him that choice.

Marsha Blackburn and other women in again registering their complaints: Not only would the bill mire the Republican Party in an awkward conversation about rape, it would also turn off women and millennial voters, just the constituencies the GOP must court to win the upcoming 2016 Senate and presidential election."

I may well be being very uncharitable but, if allowed, I would ask Renee, if given the option, how many innocents she would murder to get to be President, since political considerations appear to trump all else for her.

431 There was no argument in that post that actually properly touched on whether it is proper to allow the killing of an innocent in that situation. The points raised spoke to significant issues, but not that one. Let's at least have the consistency not to confuse issues.
Posted by: Brother Cavil, Unrepresented

Well said.
"Proper". Hmmm.
resolved: in the event of rape, a woman shall be required to carry the resulting child to term.
Her "option to exercise free will" had been denied. it is now, again, denied by the state. This goes to the very nature of this unique "injury". If that person were a professional athelete, or muscian, we do not deny that person the right to resue their chsoen place in society.
If she was single and childless by her choice, we do not have the right to impose this change. If she was guilty of a crime, then yes.
But, as you observed, there is a third person involved.
Other attacks may result in scarring, loss of limb (17 at last count in the Boston bombing), and society can do nothing about it. Society offers no remedy for most of the ravages of violent crime. Mostly because it has none.
This type of attack may result in the creation of life. Society does not yet have the means to transfer that life.

I continue my earlier stance. We do this knowing that we are permitting the destruction of life. Innocent life. That in most cases this is conducted early, with pills, matters greatly and matters not at all.

434 The Erickson piece shows the inevitable result of the GOP trying to be all things to all people.

Amnesty will have a similar effect - for every "naturally conservative" Hispanic vote they gain by pandering to cheap labor and open borders, they'll lose three voters - two former loyalists from their base and one independent or Reagan Democrat they could have won over by standing for something.

Boehner and the rest of the donor class epitomize the mind-set of the corporatist short-termer CEO - sacrifice the long term health and credibility of a long-standing institution for short term gains. Apres moi, le deluge. Or as Keynes put it in English - (who cares because) "in the long run, we're all dead."

is not equal to the implicit accusation in:

The rules of logic are such that the accusation has to be proven positively.

Show one regular, known commenter on this site who states unambiguously that rape cannot under any circumstances cause pregnancy.

443 Why do most of you assume that a woman who has been raped wants to wait five months to get an abortion? I'd think they'd be screaming for the day-after pill almot immediately. Or go for an abortion within days of finding out that they were pregnant. (Assuming, of course, that they want an abortion at all). Waiting for 21 or 30 or what-ever weeks doesn't sound like a rape victim to me.
