This is pretty crazy. It is amazing how many of your stories essentially are about people completely ignoring or willfully lying about reality.
Want inflation to remain low? Remove THE key indicator of inflation which is food prices. Want to prove global warming? Say cold is warm while ignoring ice coverage. Want to not highlight foreign policy blunders? Refuse to report on them so no one notices. Most of these cases are about reporting, although a few are the political class doing the lying. Either way it is the "nomenklatura" lying to the unwashed masses so they stay in the bubble they want. Being completely divorced from reality is a pretty dangerous thing. The Justice Department announced on Friday that most police departments could not use federal law to seize property from individuals when they have no reason to believe a crime has been committed. Attorney General Eric Holder said in an order that the department would, in most cases, no longer run a controversial asset forfeiture program. Vic: "…I am already tired of this Winter and ready for some Spring."
With temps in the 60s this week, and not dipping below freezing, I'm pushing the season by foregoing the long juans this morning. That's living dangerously for my sick old bod. The long juans may be back on if I have to get out in the cold tonight, though. Our 20-year-old Sears furnace keeps right on cooking, thanks much to our long-time furnace doctor, but at the end of the week it started screaming. Bearings on the vent fan seem to be going. I had hoped the unit would last out the winter. Now I'm wondering if it will last out the weekend. Wonder if it can even be repaired, the thing's so old. If the temps will just stay in the 60s, we'll be okay. Yeah. Sure. All the way through February. Posted by: mindful webworker - near-sunrise at January 17, 2015 08:16 AM (Hr+ZL) 74

The WaPO has a gloss on Holder's action: A civil asset forfeiture program at the Justice Department called Equitable Sharing. The program has enabled local and state police to make seizures and then have them adopted by federal agencies, which share in the proceeds. The program allowed police departments and drug task forces to keep up to 80 percent of the proceeds of the adopted seizures, with the rest going to federal agencies. Change wont end civil asset forfeiture abuses entirely, but it will stop local police agencies from circumventing state laws aimed at reining them in. Many states, for example, have imposed stricter evidentiary standards, other states have tried to eliminate the incentive problems that arise when police are allowed to keep the proceeds. Local police agencies have been able to get around those laws through the equitable sharing program, which basically federalizes investigations solely for the purpose of letting local police departments and prosecutors keep the bounties they collect in these cases. Holders policy change will end that. http://tinyurl.com/nrpnmyd Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at January 17, 2015 08:17 AM (kdS6q) 76

Add #37, and we're back to approaching "normal". @70 Thanks for the reminder! Since the kiddos all played soccer thru their school years, I've learned to enjoy watching soccer. I know most morons here hate the game but if they ever had the opportunity to watch a national level game (we drove to watch World Cup qualifiers) I think they would be smitten as well. The crowd atmosphere is amazing and the game is better live. Premier soccer being broadcast will get this girl through the down time after football ends through the basketball doldrums!

Used the C&R FFL-03 to order a Spanish Model B 9mm. It's nice to have big brown deliver directly to your front door. Seriously, they know why he wasn't there but to ask would open up the possibility that they get an answer they don't want. ----- I brought this from a different thread because since I was "that wife" it was appropriate. 144>> I gotta disagree with the characterization of Jindal's upcoming speech as 'harsh'. It's a statement of fact made in a way to be politically correct. Harsh would be something along the lines of this:
'No key Muslim leadership has arise to condemn the acts of these terrorists and to provide substantive countermeasures. And the President himself has done as much as he can, surreptitiously and directly to aid and abet these groups. Whether it's done indirectly by using a failed foreign policy executed by a naive Secretary of State or directly by authorizing the release of prisoners from GITMO to return to the battlefield or condoning the authorization to exchange Army deserters for terrorist leaders, the President and his cabinet have fostered and encouraged acts of barbarity against the United States and it's allies.' *Crosses arms* Let's get it on.... I always wanted to have a party that combined the Derby with Cinco de Mayo.

Hot browns was actually already going to be on the menu, so I've got that going for me.
Other than that, the menu is going to need a complete overhaul. Posted by: TickledPink at January 17, 2015 09:05 AM (RLev8) 178
Bigby you know this I m sure but try and have something in the kiddos tummy before the medicine is taken. Banana, rice, applesauce and toast are good for tender tummys

Kentucky Derby? Maybe you could get that flamboyant ice skater who was one of the announcers, what's his name.
I tried Goggling "gay ice skater" but got 1.7 million page hits. Couldn't narrow it down. Posted by: Muldoon, a solid man at January 17, 2015 09:07 AM (NeFrd) 180
@ Tickled Pink --
Use paper plates as "hats" and get tons of glittery stuff, flowers, cheap ribbon and bows. Each participant makes their own wild creation and judge the contest. Doesn't the Derby have a hat day? I think the Brits are masters of the saucer hat -- and it should also take up most of the silly game time those events seem to require. Cheap, easy, and could be fun. Walker's speech leaves little doubt he intends to run in 2016. But he has to get over his amnesty issue.

The hardest part would be getting John Kerry, Secretariat of State to arrive, wearing a saddle.[i/]

RE: the Drudge headline
I know I'm guilty of committing an -ism of some sort, but why are gay men (for the most part) gorgeous and lesbian women ummmm, not? I mean, if a women sees a great looking, clean, articulate man why is their first thought "he must be gay". You don't think that about a beautiful woman -- unless you men think "I hope she's gay and lets me watch/join in" Which, as I think about it... /nevermind Posted by: RedDish at January 17, 2015 09:51 AM (5eXg1) Posted by: rickl at January 17, 2015 10:08 AM (sdi6R) 190
