But, truck wash updates are good too.

Put them both in the stocks, wearing Pedo-Prophet masks, and let people point at them and mock them.

Then execute them.

17 Wow, one of the first impulses the new Congress has is to raise gasoline taxes. And Republicans support this. What the fcuk did I vote for last November? My congressman(a Republican who I voted for) voted in favor of cromnibus.

I was foolish enough to believe things would change with a Republican-led Congress. If I read anyone criticizing anyone else for not voting LOTE, I'll gladly remind them in not-too-kind words to STFU.

54 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Picture day today.
First, our weekly Ziegfeld Girls, the Cutter Sisters:

http://goo.gl/rbnV2n

Not much is known about the sisters, whose names were Daphne Diana ("Daisy") and Cassandra Cleolia ("Cookie").They worked in vaudeville, but were never a successful act, finally, in 1898, teaming up with a stage magician by the name of. . . Harry Potter.

Now, our birthday girl, Vilma Banky (here in 1925s The Eagle):

http://goo.gl/lDtikk

Born in Hungary in 1901, Banky was discovered by Samuel Goldwyn when he made a 1925 European trip. Her family was very much against her acting career, but Banky signed with Goldwyn nonetheless.

She co-starred with Rudolph Valentino in The Eagle and in 1926s The Son of the Sheik, receving plaudits as a "rare beauty" and nicknamed "The Hungarian Rhapsody." It's an urban legend that she retired from films because her thick accent made her unacceptable, but by 1927 she had appeared in 16 movies and was wearying of the business. As well, she had just married actor Rod LaRoque (in a union that lasted to his death in 1969) and wanted to swettle down and simply be his wife.

Banky died, age 90, in 1991, though her death wasn't announced until the next year; she was angry that no one was visiting her in her last years and had directed her lawyer to make no mention of her passing. Her ashes were scattered at sea.

Here she is in one of her last films, 1928s Two Lovers:

http://goo.gl/dMaQDD

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

From Wikipedia:

According to Kint, Keyser Söze began his criminal career as a petty drug dealer in his native Turkey. His legendary persona is born when rival Hungarian smugglers invade his house while he is away, rape his wife, and hold his children hostage; when Söze arrives, they kill one of his children and demand that he give his business to them. Instead, Söze kills his own family and all but one of the Hungarians, who he knows will tell the Mafia what has happened. Once his family is buried, Söze goes after the mob and kills dozens of people, including the mobsters' families, friends, and even people who owe them money. He then goes underground, never again doing business in person.

College tuition will rise to swallow all available money, which is what it has been doing for decades. The solution becomes for gummint to throw more money at it, which continues the cycle.

Not to mention increasing demand for limited slots, which does nothing to increase supply or quality.

Imagine any private industry that can tap an unending supply of public money to bring in an increasing customer base, consider the results that would have.

Not that there's anything at all wrong with community college -- 2 of my kids are there now to save money, and one went on from CC to a 4-year college -- but in the college prep track it should be college, not extended high school to make up for what the igh school failed to do.

And IF kids go on from high school to CC to get a technical education in a usable skill, that's a good thing. But again, it should be something they want and pay for, not a normal part of education.

It is not all right for all students to be expected to stay in school until they are 20.

The cathedrals are empty in Europe, so it won't be the Crusades again.

Secularists - which represents the entirety of European political leadership at every level from nation to town - are totes OK with living under Sharia.

The "it" that you think is lying under secularism is it's rot. Europe will go down with a whimper and not a bang.

And Commands were evaluated on how many of their Sailors were ESWS qualified.

No one listened to our argument that the sought after, inmate character traits were what caused the individual to seek the voluntary qualification.

205 Anyone else ever have middle ear surgery? I did last week to replace stirup (stapes) with a prosthetic. Holy Hell I was unprepared for how that turned my world upside down. I figured I might be a little dizzy for a day or two, I was in the navy and offshore fished most of my life so my equilibrium has always been perfect.
I thought I was dying, felt super drunk, couldn't walk straight and the worst part is it actually affected my intelligence. I think I temporarily lost about 35 iq points. The doctor took out the packing yesterday and that helped tremendously but I'm far far from 100 percent. I can hear in that ear now for the first time in twenty years but I think that is freaking out my brain which is no longer used to nerve impulses from there, every sound is like a mini lsd trip.
So mark this down if you ever need ear surgery, it's going to be a funky recovery.
I guess in a few months when I have normal hearing it will be worth it but for now I really really miss my ability to balance and think in a linear manner.

266 WTH?-"Evangelical radicalization"Oh, good grief. It's the same troll from yesterday under a new handle.

Evangelicals are no threat to Catholics. Some Catholics might leave to join Evangelical churches but the reverse is also true. Christ died so that we might be one, dimwit. We stand together as Christians or we perish separately.

267 Yes. And they're all talking to each other via cell phone.

France needs Maet.
Hack the cell phones. Reroute all calls to voice mail. Replace vm message with "HODOR!"

269 "They'd have to go elsewhere for an engineering signature unless they wanted to stand a few U/Is in the pit "

I used to Sit a fair number of EOOW Boards for the Officers trying for their SWO Quals.

Many a time my first question was "Describe the route from the DC Deck to the EOOW's position in Main Control"

LOL, how many missed that?

271 @242
Its you snake handlers who are making threats against Catholics.

Posted by: Catholic League at January 09, 2015 08:36 AM (zHV9p)

272 @266
Evangelicals spew hatred towards Catholics on a daily basis. They threaten ethnic cleaning against Hispanic Catholics and insult the Church. That is a threat and one many Catholics are starting to wake up to.

Evangelicals are as much a threat to Catholics as are Muslims.

Posted by: Catholic League at January 09, 2015 08:38 AM (zHV9p)

273 I had a JG going for his engineering quals who could not rotate a ratchet wrench. We used those to open valves with. He didn't understand that you had to turn it over to go in one direction.

Posted by: Vic at January 09, 2015 08:38 AM (wlDny)

274 "LOL, how many missed that?"
Out of the ones that I chose to ask?

Most of them.

Senior EOOW, and Top Snipe, I knew every Officer who stood on the deck plates.

And...those who didn't, but said that they did.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at January 09, 2015 08:38 AM (g6jni)

275 "snake-handlers"

Mark your bingo cards.

I've got a wait for 'neocon.'

Really gonna need to up that Lithium dose.

277 "I had a JG going for his engineering quals who could not rotate a ratchet wrench. "

Had one like that.
Give him a crows foot, and he's gonna either lose an eye, or chip a tooth.

And the valve will still be shut.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at January 09, 2015 08:40 AM (g6jni)

278 Wow, one of the first impulses the new Congress has is to raise gasoline taxes. And Republicans support this. What the fcuk did I vote for last November?

You mean you still don't see the humor in that?

279 It's Hector's misfortune that the days of the Inquisition are passed.

Protestants burnt witches and raped Catholic nuns. Go cry me a river about the inquisition.

281 Raise the Gas Tax. A Lot - Charles Krauthammer, National Review

Calls
for a $1 increase in the "user fee" because buying gas is bad m'kay and
the Republicans will have more opportunity to fiddle with the chips and
determine winners and losers.

Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at January 09, 2015 08:21 AM (kdS6q)

I like Krauthammer generally but he is all wet here. I am not sure if he has looked outside much but those big trucks that drive around and deliver everything you eat and use: THEY RUN ON GAS.
Can't we just reduce both and spend less?

282 Heh. That's how I refer to going to my church on Sunday. "OK, off to handle snakes!" My pastor thinks it's funny.

283 Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist

Intended to be a Surface Navy version of Sub Quals.

Came out after your time.

Late 70's, early 80's.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at January 09, 2015 08:14 AM (g6jni)

And its Aviation counterpart, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, which also went the same way - becoming mandatory, also against the opposition of anyone who wore the wings. Now if one of these guys wants to stand out they have to get dual qual'd (carrier squadron sailors get both EAWS and ESWS for the carrier).

286 Morning, Glories!

Does anyone have details on the new moron baby, when was born, etc? I missed it.

Also, whatever else I missed in important news?

Right now, got to feed beasts....

287 "And its Aviation counterpart, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, which also went the same way - becoming mandatory"

And this is the path that we will follow with Secondary Education in the U.S.

In the meantime, my Doctor keeps his yacht at a marina in Florida.
In the slip next to his?
My Plumbers yacht.

288 I dunno, I see Krauthammer as the broken clock - he's right once in a while, but he comes out with this kind of krap too often for my taste. He belongs on Fox.
Which if you think about it is about the worst thing one can say about someone in the dextrosphere.
