New Yorker Magazine Half-Wakes-Up From Deep Obama Slumber to Threat of Weaponized Religion

A weaponized religious cult, I should say.

Obama has been telling the country that there is no terrorism and no threat from Islamism for six years. The country has largely chosen to believe this unbelievable horseshit because this country is no longer a great one, but rather a cowardly, lazy, and trivial one.

Also, an increasingly stupid one. Say, hasn't television gotten crazy-good lately??!!

It is MOAR FUN!!! to live in Obama's world of cuddly-stupid lies than the rough and gritty real world.

But maybe some people are having troubling dreams about a thing they once knew as "the real world," which might cause them to actually wake up to it.

The murders today in Paris are not a result of France's failure to assimilate two generations of Muslim immigrants from its former colonies. They're not about French military action against the Islamic State in the Middle East, or the American invasion of Iraq before that. They're not part of some general wave of nihilistic violence in the economically depressed, socially atomized, morally hollow West--the Paris version of Newtown or Oslo. Least of all should they be "understood" as reactions to disrespect for religion on the part of irresponsible cartoonists.

They are only the latest blows delivered by an ideology that has sought to achieve power through terror for decades. It's the same ideology that sent Salman Rushdie into hiding for a decade under a death sentence for writing a novel, then killed his Japanese translator and tried to kill his Italian translator and Norwegian publisher. The ideology that murdered three thousand people in the U.S. on September 11, 2001. The one that butchered Theo van Gogh in the streets of Amsterdam, in 2004, for making a film. The one that has brought mass rape and slaughter to the cities and deserts of Syria and Iraq. That massacred a hundred and thirty-two children and thirteen adults in a school in Peshawar last month. That regularly kills so many Nigerians, especially young ones, that hardly anyone pays attention.

Because the ideology is the product of a major world religion, a lot of painstaking pretzel logic goes into trying to explain what the violence does, or does'ít, have to do with Islam. Some well-meaning people tiptoe around the Islamic connection, claiming that the carnage has nothing to do with faith, or that Islam is a religion of peace, or that, at most, the violence represents a "distortion" of a great religion....

A religion is not just a set of texts but the living beliefs and practices of its adherents. Islam today includes a substantial minority of believers who countenance, if they don't actually carry out, a degree of violence in the application of their convictions that is currently unique.

12 U.S. weapons intended for Iraq's beleaguered military are winding up in the possession of the country's Shiite militias, according to U.S. lawmakers and senior officials in the Barack Obama administration. These sources say that the Baghdad government, which was granted $1.2 billion in training and equipment aid in the omnibus spending bill passed last month, is turning hardware over to Shiite militias that are heavily influenced by Iran and have been guilty of gross human-rights violations.
...
What's clear, for now, is that U.S. policy will continue to involve giving the Iraqi government the help it requests, even if some of that assistance ends up aiding militias that in the past have battled U.S. soldiers and committed atrocities against Iraq's Sunni population. While this approach has not produced stability in Iraq or preserved American influence there thus far, it is still deemed better than the alternatives.

... and be sure to ignore those "gross human-rights violations"

33 We will not see large-scale attacks anymore. Islamic leaders have wised up. Large attacks bring soldiers to places who get in the way and kill the Islam "police force".

Small attacks are passed off as "not Muslim" while leading to capitulation to Muslim demands.

Small attacks win. Large attacks lose.

They have figured it out. Why get thousands of warriors killed when there is no need? Used a few at a time the attackers get a lot more mileage out of the attacks. And they can generate many attacks this way.

And that's the future.

96 I've said all along the doctrine of Islam is what gives rise to the violence. For that I've been called all kinds of nasty names. Nobody wants to have a substantive debate because the words of the days are to shame, dismiss, demure, harass, belittle and to generally raise any pathos argument available.

There has not been a sensible debate by those in public office. They've just simply foisted their personal predilections, utopian thoughts and prevarications upon us. They've told us to stop being "racist" and abandon our culture (which they often state does not really exist) while they conversely tell us to bow to other cultures. They've pursued laws and policies to stop our "discrimination". They've told us that clinging to our own unique culture is somehow "right-wing" extremism?

really? So the policies which allowed my immigrant ancestors and the way they lived their lives was...extremist? They would be shocked to know that.

I'm a bit tired of being called names by underwhelming "leaders" and their acolytes who are products of the "I would like to teach the world to sing" generation. They are nothing but a bunch of illogical, foolish, social misfits who have destroyed our country and parts of the world with their stupidity.

119 I suspect you will see more of this. The reason is because this is hitting home for them. It is a matter of self interest. Happens at a magazine, it will eventually happen to them as well. First it is profaning "the prophet" by an image, then it will be profaning "the prophet" by commentary or editorial. Doesn't matter if they intend to or not.

It is a basic human (but I suspect more common) with elites mentality. - A guy's house is broken into in the next town and is beaten... this is awful. Something should be done.
- My relative's house is broken into in the next town and is beaten... this is an outrage! This can't continue.
- My neighbor's house across the street is broken into and is beaten... THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!! We must stand together! We must not put up with this. This is the fault of (govt./police/laws/etc.) What are YOU going to do to about this?!? This is serious! I can't believe NO ONE else cares!!

It's all relative. Now that wolf is in their neighborhood now they are wondering where the protectors are... and why they aren't seeing things like "THEY" see it. It is making them uncomfortable.

It is making them face the world as it is and not how they want it to be and that is very scary for elite intellectuals.

145 1) The right to blaspheme (and otherwise give offense) is essential to the liberal order.

2) There is no duty to blaspheme, a society's liberty is not proportional to the quantity of blasphemy it produces, and under many circumstances the choice to give offense (religious and otherwise) can be reasonably criticized as pointlessly antagonizing, needlessly cruel, or simply stupid.

3) The legitimacy and wisdom of such criticism is generally inversely proportional to the level of mortal danger that the blasphemer brings upon himself.

146 Sucks to say this but Bush said "religion of peace" as well.

Dubya, personally, is a good man. As a politician, he was a friggin' imbecile.

Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at January 08, 2015 11:13 AM (zF6Iw)

I understand what Dubya was trying to do.

Basically, it was along the lines of -

Okay, muslims, you've shown the world for decades(centuries) that you're a bunch of violent, stabby, backward, retarded animals.

Here's your chance to show the world that you can enter the 21st Century as stable citizens of the modern world loaded with goodwill.

Of course, that failed, because Islam is an insane 9th century backwater death cult and bandits', murderers, rapists, pedophiles philosophy of justification.

But, I understand what he was trying to do.

Because then the logic becomes-

how many muslims do we have to kill and how long do we have to keep doing it until they stop?

And since the muslims have added total warfare to the mix- killing unarmed, noncombatant citizens-

do we go that fair as well?

Hard questions- apparently too hard for Dubya to truly ask himself, when the answer became clear.

It was easier for him to fall back on his Christian faith and pretend that Allah the God of Rape, Murder, Theft, and Wholesale Slaughter-

was the same as the God, the Father of the Redeemer Jesus Christ.

History will continue to prove that he chose poorly.

See, simply asking them nicely hasn't worked, and they keep trying to kill us.

So, yes, I'm in favor of killing them first. If they *stop* being Mohammedans, or at least stop trying to kill me, then I'll gladly stop. Just like we did for the Germans and Japanese in WWII.

Or should we *not* defend ourselves just because they promise to make us kill all of them?

Our response to "We will fight to the last man!" should be "Sounds good to me, let me know when you're ready to stop."

The problem is that those who run our Government do not understand that Islam is not 'only' a religion.

Its a boilerplate for Government... it has Laws and Court systems.

And it preaches that those laws and court systems supersede whatever secular laws you happen to live under.

It is against Sharia law, to draw pictures of the Prophet, or to make fun of him... as far as Islam is concerned, these guys were just carrying out the correct death sentence.

To follow Islam, is to follow Sharia Law... which is TREASON in the West.... and thus they should be expelled IMO.

Honestly, I don't think we'd even need to kill 1/10 of them. If we'd make it clear (yes, through force- yes, by killing a whole lot of them) that their more violent tendencies will not be tolerated, most of them will stop.

And, yes, I *am* talking about fire-bombing villages where terrorists hang out, because part of the lesson needs to be "hiding them is helping them, and helping them makes you culpable for their acts."

Our strength was highest in Iraq and Afghanistan when the tribal leaders believed we were going to be there and kill anyone who got in our way- they decided they didn't want to be the ones dying, and started handing terrorists and insurgents over almost gift-wrapped.

My plan starts with this: impose a moratorium on Muslim immigration to the U.S.

Islam is not just a religion. It is also a cultural, political, legal, and social system -- and it is incompatible with our American system. So why are we continuing to allow millions of Muslims to immigrate here? We are setting up a clash of civilizations in our own land. If the Muslims already here demonstrate a willingness and ability to assimilate, then we can revisit the immigration issue in a few decades. But until then, we should stop the insanity of importing millions more people who despise us and our way of life.

Probably. This is the New Yorker. You can imagine what a hard-on they have for France.

243 Earth has been around for about 15 billion years. It was renewed around 6,000 years ago when man and woman were created. The garden of Eden dates back to around 3980 BC.

Theirony of progressive/leftist attempts to explain away Islamic extremists as "not Muslims" is that these same individuals ascribe any negative behavior by self-identifying Christians to the Christian religion.
Self-identifying Muslim blows himself up? NOT A MUSLIM! THAT IS NOT ISLAM!
Self-identifying Christian says something remotely outside of progressiveviews on homosexuality, birth control, you name it? SEE? LOOK HOW INTOLERANT AND NEGATIVE CHRISTIANS ARE!!!! CHRISTIANS ARE BAD JUST LIKE ANY FAKE MUSLIMS MIGHT BE BAD.

Actually, I know a lot of them. They are quite smart in most things, but this-IMO- appears to be a blind spot for them. It's a source of disagreement between us, but about as meaningful as the "angels on the head of a pin" argument.

249 Is it time for total war on Jesse Jackson?

Is that an option?

More seriously, I'll let you consider the difference between Jesse Jackson and your average Mohammedan terrorist.

That said, I do believe that he and Al Sharpton should probably be in jail.

And that "right sized" war is getting a whole lot of very good men and women killed or maimed. Whereas if we'd just go in and Lay Down the Law (as it were), we'd end up losing a whole lot fewer young men and women.

There's a humanitarian side to that, too. Remember that we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki mostly to save American lives, but that it *also* saved Japanese lives. The lesson is clear- be so fearful and powerful that they know they can't win, and they'll stop fighting. Them stopping fighting sooner means fewer people die.

I've known quite a few. And their argument, taken from a faith perspective, is not *wrong.* God certainly could have made the world to seem millions of years old (but was it millions of years old... yesterday?) for reasons no human could fathom.

But the argument is pointless because a) I don't have to know how hold the world is, nor really know anything about Hebrew history to be a Christian (most Gentiles in the 1st C certainly didn't) and b) we'll never know for sure.

251 Any of the Horde ever have any dealings with Muslim women? I have, on a few occasions, and it's an eye opener. Mainly from the FEAR you see in them. Example: my daughter had a couple of Iranian Muslim friends in high school (seems they were all into this anime crap). One day they were over visiting her, and had blocked my access to the garage with their car. I asked them to move their car, one of them came out and did so. In the process I noted one of their brake lights was burned out. As the girl was headed back inside, I mentioned to her in passing that she should tell her daddy about that burned out bulb and have him replace it.

I swear, her knees buckled a bit and she literally looked like she was going to wet her pants in fear at the thought of telling her father she had a burned out brake light on her car. I asked her what was wrong, and she says "T-tell my father? He will be very angry at me". Why?, I asked. "It's not your fault, sweetie. This is what light bulbs do after a few thousand hours of use. It's normal". She muttered "He will not understand".

This kid was so overwhelmed with fear of her Islamocommie daddy that I got back into my world famous, wheelie turning Corvette, zipped off to the parts house and got a replacement bulb and installed it for her. And she still didn't seem to know whether to shit or go blind over me doing that. But at least she didn't have to tell Daddy about it.

There are other examples I can think of, involving other Muzzie women I've met, but the story is the same. Anything comes up involving their husband/father/brother/uncle/whatever, the fear just oozes out of them. It is downright spooky, let me tell you...

255 "power through terror for decades." Try centuries.
And that small minority? What do we want to call that, 1% of the total? Well 1% of 2 billion is 20 million. 20 million muderous fanatics spread across the world.
This.is.a.problem.
I would note that different sects and movements of muslims seem to radicalize at different rates. We don't need to treat all muslims as equally suspect. Just weed out those that are problemmatic. And by "weed" I don't mean kill, but actively oppose on every possible level. Individuals practicing faiths with high levels of radicalism won't be allowed into the west.Mosques that preach such beliefs will be treated like KKK/nazi recuritment centers. Picket, harrass, sue, and otherwise oppose them until they get the message. Make them unwelcome, and force their members to consider alternatives. In the free west, make sure there are other healthier alternatives.Make the less radical members drift off to other groups.
In France, I would start with the mosque those gunmen attended and find legal ways to harass, inmidate, and ultimately shut down the place. Deport anyone attending who isan't a French citizen. Force them to answer questiosn in the press about their beliefs. Publish names of members. Station armed policemen outside the mosque at all hours "for protection". Get some picketers. Seek out confrontation, but ONLY with that mosque, and with the imman that would allow such beliefs to fester in his congregation.
The one thing you do NOT do is give in to their intimidation. Ever.
By the way, this is EXACTLY what we do to radical christian fanatics (David Koresh, Hillburough baptist, etc.) which is why these groups bubble up, and theneventually disappear. We actively make them unwelcome. It is also what we do to radical political groups as well.
