Way Too Early Morning Thread 1/4/2015 [krakatoa]

Some nights, you toss until one foot's on the headboard, one's in the lampshade, and end up feeling like Moon Moon at a sleepover.

52 Good morning early risers.

Here's a story about Greece and the consequences of an earlier Greek government cooking the books to join the Eurozone.

http://tinyurl.com/nh7olkm

It looks like the usual bunch of crony socialists is likely to lose to the extreme socialists who will repudiate and default on their debts. The Germans are saying that the Euro will be OK if this happens and nobody is going to miss the Greeks.

A year or so back, there was a possibility that the Russians might step in to help out Greece in return for much closer ties. This is the sort of deal that Ukraine had and that resulted in Ukrainians overturning their government to avoid, resulting in the current unpleasantness going on in Ukraine today. The thing is that with current oil prices so low, the Russians are no longer in a position to make that kind of offer.

I, however, have a modest proposal which could resolve the Greek financial problems and relieve the threat to the Euro.

First, Israel purchases the Dodecanese Islands from Greece using money borrowed from Germany and the Eurozone nations for a price that is sufficient to resolve the Greek financial problems and pay off their loans. Next Israel moves the entire population of Gaza to those islands which are off the coast of Turkey. Israel then simultaneously annexes Gaza and grants independence to the islands which are now populated with the former population of Gaza. Israel then bulldozes Gaza flat and signs deals with real estate developers to build beach front luxury condos along the Mediterranean shore and selling the condos to sun starved norther Europeans. The proceeds from the beach front property developments goes to pay off the mortgage for the formerly Greek islands that are now home to the former population of Gaza.

There is something in this deal to make everybody happy except, of course, for the Greeks who currently live on the Dodecanese Islands but they were held by the Ottoman empire until WW I and then governed by Italy until the end of WW II and only became part of Greece in 1947.

President Obama and his two daughters spent the final day of their Hawaiian vacation relaxing on the beach, visiting the President's half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and hanging with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder.

Vedder, a longtime Obama supporter, has a home on the island with his family. The President and his daughters spent about 20 minutes with Vedder at his Kailua residence.

Why, quite clearly, and from personal experience, it would have been Mrs VIA.

But what is she doing at your place?

99 President Obama and his two daughters spent the final day of their Hawaiian vacation relaxing on the beach, visiting the President's half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and hanging with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder.

100 94>> HA! The first time the girl went beyond the area around Yokusuka was to meet her fiance at Narita. Of course she speak NO Japanese other than what she picked up at the dojo.

Of course she got lost, but some local saw her about to break out in tears and took pity on her. The local escorted her all the way to the gate. Turns out she was wearing a Texas Rangers hoodie and the guy was a teammate of Yu Darvish when he played in Japan.

101 Agree about Narita. Also did just fine in Dubai, HK and even Istanbul.

DeGaulle and Heathrow on the other hand have fucked me over almost every time I've been there. Sad, really.

College. Higher learning. Honing the intellect.

One of them puts cereal bowls into the dishwasher facing up.

Even thought we were home-ported in Sasebo, we would take the entire ship up to Yokusuka for Firefighting training, and spend about two weeks up there.

There are a lot of Japanese in the Tokyo area.
But, they are very polite.

112 Steelers would have ben better off losing last week to Cincy and then traveling to Indy ... the Ravens are fucking tough in the playoffs, especially early on. I don't know how Flacco does it but he does indeed get it done.

Looking forward to Dallas/Detroit today. Suh probably should have been suspended for stomping Rogers but I'm glad they have their full team, should be a good game.

I still think Seattle is peaking at the right time and will win the whole thing.

113 Why didn't someone come to me like a man, and tell me that the book thread was up?

114 Tmitmss,
I don't want to cut cable. I tried to lower monthly bill early last year by canceling all premium channels except Showtime. The next bill went up brcause I didn't have a package.

I never watched Band of Brothers on HBO & my older brother has been telling me it's very close to what my father went through in WWII.
I started watching it two weeks ago & spend last Saturday watching it & loved it.

Because they never featured my book, even though I asked. All Amazon reviews were five stars.

Meh. I got exactly zero dollars for it. Company took it all, even though "book writing" wasn't part of the job description. But I'm supposed to be happy I have a job, right?

Besides, I don't want you people knowing who I am, even though I love you in a non-Reidian way.
