Scalise Story Shifts Again; Kenny Knight Says Scalise Didn't Attend EURO Gathering At All

The trouble with this claim is that Kenny Knight was David Duke's campaign manager, and Steve Scalise's friend; he therefore has reason to distort the truth to Scalise's advantage.

However, his new, more detailed account denies Scalise "attended" or "spoke at" a Duke meeting at all. He seems to have scheduled a Scalise gathering in the same hotel space as a EURO meeting which was due to be held later that day.

I don't know.

I have to say I don't really care.

61 I have mixed feelings about the Scalise thing.

I wouldn't piss on John Boehner if he were on fire, so watching a Boehner ally and protege get in public relations trouble does not engender deep sympathies either.

On the other hand, it's tiring when black racial radicalism is deemed perfectly okay, and Hispanic racial radicalism is deemed perfectly okay, but white racial radicalism is instantly condemned as OMG UNTHINKABLE.

Either racially radical speech in all forms is part of the continuum of discourse in a rowdy but free society, or else the purges of all of it must begin. This business of actively promoting some forms of racial radicalism while simultaneously hounding other forms of it is incoherent crap.

Posted by: torquewrench at December 31, 2014 01:50 PM (noWW6)

62 Ace, the "friend" thing seems to be a one-way street.

They were in the same neighborhood ("blocks away" according to Slate), recognized each other inasmuch as Scalise waved at Knight on occasion and Knight did give a contribution of $1000 to Scalise while he was a state rep.

Ordinarily a $1K contribution isn't a big deal, but it is for a state rep. So maybe there's something there, but it seems they were friendly neighbors.

At this point, if the media wants to push the story, they really have to ask the Red Cross and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office why they sent reps there.

There were a bunch of conservatives on Twitter trying to use this as an "oust Boehner" battlecry. The fascinating thing is that the Twitter mob force Scalise to address the story right away. He does and the exact same people mock him for apologizing for doing something he apparently didn't do. Schoolyard shit.

I guess Scalise is revealed as kind of a doofus and not savvy enough for leadership, but suppose this kind of Sacco-ing happens to somebody you actually like?

YAIMP (yet another Internet moral panic).

Yeah, this "should have known" BS is getting old as well. Duke ran for governor in 1991. This event was 11 years later. It is now 12 years after that event. That's how much time had passed. People were not running around focused on who exactly was running David Duke's organization 10 years later.

And maybe because Knight doesn't tell anybody? In fact, he was head of this "civic organization". That's probably because he volunteered. If the president of my condo association were a neo-Nazi, I wouldn't know. Even now.

The only person I've ever seen deal with the issue well was Andrew Breitbart. He was on CNN or somewhere and they were talking about Pigford or something and the host said "well, look at this some random conservative in California printed up money with Obama as a monkey!"

Without missing a beat, Breitbart said "well, that's awful, but that has nothing at all to do with me so anyway back to my point"

94 One of the biggest mistakes W. Bush ever made was allowing the Plamegate investigation to go the way that it did. The guy who spilled the beans (whatever beans there was to spill, but whatevs) got off scot free while Scooter Libby went to jail for misremembering. Bush never pardoned Libby, I guess because he felt he was restoring fairness, honor and accountability to the White House, unlike his predecessor Clinton. Whatever lessons Bush felt like he was imparting to Obama went down the shitter on day one of King Barack's reign. The Democrats have no interest in fairness or accountability. That's why the Republicans need to respond in kind in this case; just give the press a big middle finger and DO NOTHING ELSE!

By the way, anyone else note that one of the earlier questionable rape stories published by _Rolling Stone_ was under the byline of Nina Burleigh?

That's the very same Nina Burleigh who used to be the White House correspondent for _Time_ during the Clinton years.

The same Nina Burleigh who said that not only would she have chosen not to cover the Lewinsky scandal if she had her druthers, but that she would also have been quite happy to personally drop to her knees and give the Big Dog a blowjob herself in exchange for his keeping abortion legal.

Maybe it's good that this is le issue du jour on this last day of 2014 because maybe it'll serve as a preview of what's ahead.

2015 will be another year in which we defend ourselves against accusations of racism, rape, and gun violence in events that have absolutely nothing to do with us or perhaps never happened.

109 93 The problem with the race card is that it works. White America reacts with horror with the slightest implication of racism. It's become the one unpardonable sin.

The host kept trying to tar him with random accusations of racism, and he never once took the bait. That's how you do it.

121 No one -- not even the left -- cares about Scalise, really.

it's all about "guilt by association." They want to tar anyone even vaguely on "his side" to be tarred with the racism brush. (And the tar-brush is itself racist!)

They've been playing this game for, what, 40 years?

It's played out. No one gives a shit anymore.

In academia, and now leaking into the mainstream the "guilt by association" has already reached its endpoint:

If you live in America, you are connected to the slave trade, thus you are guilty.

If youre skin is somewhat pallid, you are connected to the slave trade, this you are guilty.

If you self-identify or are identified by others as "white," you have "white privilege" whether you admit it or not, and thus you are guilty.

We're already in the post-guilt-by-association phase.

And guess what? It failed. 90% of whites say "fuck you" to that whole garbage. The other 10% are brainwashed college students with useless degrees.

He claimed that as a young rep who was one of the very few opposed to some tax and spending stuff going on in the LA legislature, he was running around and speaking to any group who invited him in hope of building support to defeat the issue. He had one staffer and just went where he/she told him to go.

I would be willing to bet you couldn't find 2 members of Congress who could recall every single speaking engagement they gave 12 years prior. So an "I don't remember speaking to this group, don't even know who they are but now that it has been described to me I find their beliefs abhorrent and I am sorry I ever spoke to them" seems to be pretty standard stuff for any pol.

This is true, we have Confederate Memorial Day. I go every year to the cemetary in Charlotte where 200 dead are buried. We have a service in their memory.

Scalise was well away of who Duke was. Duke was still active in Louisiana politics, including as a potential opponent for Scalise around this time.

That would have been quite a trick given that Duke was being chased by the feds for fraud and living overseas at the time.
Posted by: JackStraw

There was a to-do, after the raid on Duke's offices and during his trail and imprisonment, about his rights to still run for office.

Further, Duke was a local to Scalise's area, which is why Scalise made his later "Duke can't get elected to represent your interests *wink* but I can" speech.

261 They are winning the war, even if we won the UVA rape hoax battle.

Two things will end this whole rape standards on campus thing:

The first will be funny, when homosexuals start accusing each other of rape. You'll see a story or two in which each will credibly accuse the other of rape. Possibly in the same incident.

The second will not be so funny, when the civil rights crowd discovers that there's a racial disparity in accusations.

Do you have to be a rocket surgeon to realize that this policy is going to have a lot of black and Hispanic students tossed out of college based on false accusations by women and prosecuted by unqualified administrators?

Also, I'm told that lawyers are "guardians of our rights" despite all evidence to the contrary. Harvard Law settled? Big surprise. What did our Second Estate get for their settlement?

Colleges have to comply with Obama's diktat about college rape. Because
they are completely beholden to student loan money that was taken over
by the government.

Read WSJ today. Feds have taken over loans and if you work for a "non Profit or the government, your loan is forgiven in ten years.

263 221 216 The Left can flood the zone on a story.
Sure NYT can frontpage it and MSNBC can 24/7 it.
But ESPN and Deadspin will throw it in your face while you are just looking for sports.
And TMZ and Gawker will do it while you just want celeb gossip.
Left can flood the zone and hit you from every angle. it's impressive what the Leftist hive mind can do when it works together.

And then Oliver Stone or some other Red acolyte will make a bullshit movie about it that purports to be an authoritative account, and voila! It's now Received Truth.

Which speech was this?

According to Roll Call, Scalise said he shared many of Duke's "conservative" beliefs, but then argued that the prominent white nationalist was unelectable.

"The novelty of David Duke has worn off," Scalise said. "The voters in this district are smart enough to realize that they need to get behind someone who not only believes in the issues they care about, but also can get elected. Duke has proven that he can't get elected, and that's the first and most important thing."

That's from the Roll Call interview. I believe I 'quested up quotes of him saying the same thing in other public statements around the same time. And should have left off the "later".

And they get most of their stories from Reuters and Associated Press. As do many internet home pages like Yahoo.com and msn.com. Even smartphone news aggregation sites throw lefty shit in your face constantly.

yup that has been the case for a while now.
it's just a handout to the low-earnings-potential degrees (i.e. all the ones that end with "Studies"). combine the loan forgiveness program with the income-based repayment program and all a person has to do is work for the government for 10 years after graduation, pay almost nothing on their loans in the meantime, and have the balance "forgiven" (i.e. paid for by taxpayers)
and then others see this and say "hey that's a sweet deal, I'm totally gonna do that too"

Your daughter goes there to get raped or to falsely accuse someone of rape, and your son goes there to rape someone or be falsely accused of rape.
