18 I don't like cold but I don't like bugs either. Its good to live where it freezes and kills the bugs for winter but there are warm days in winter so the ground is not always frozen and icy and I can ride. BTW thanks to all who voted for the rescue. The page is closed but I checked at 11:59 last night and LF was 8th and 200 votes ahead of # 13 so they should definitely be in. Also the SJW (girl scout Council) were 14th so an extra warm fuzzy for us bitter clingers.

These are not "peaceful protests": They want a race war that will lead to communist revolution

(Text of insane flyer from recent protest.)

It confirms what I’ve been trying to explain to folks whenever this topic comes up in conversation: That the people leading these mobs really think they are starting a revolution — and not just any revolution but a communist revolution.

These are not just “peaceful protests” against “police brutality,” as the mainstream media endlessly parrots. This is an attempt to ignite a race war, as the necessary precursor to the complete overthrow of democratic capitalist society.

...loves me some cognac!

I can't find the translation for the "I" in the label. -Roughly translated to "Gr_nv_ch".

Already through about 12oz since Wednesday! (Dad helped... lol)

It is tasty, tasty, tasty with a mild maple nose to it.

I have only known one person who celebrated Kwanza. He was a black guy at work. I stopped by his desk and asked him if he knew the origins of Kwanza. He didn't so I explained it to him. He was a pretty religious guy so after I explained it he took down all his decorations and threw them away.

61 Hello peeps, Since this is an open thread, here's my Christmas day disaster

We had two Prime Rib Roasts for Christmas Dinner, They looked beautiful, temp was right (140), but when we cut into one of them it was like a a scene from Godfather, so much blood, wondering now if my thermometer was broken or my oven was off. But thankfully the other one was cooked properly and Christmas dinner was saved. Today I shaved the other one and plan on doing Cheese steaks for football day tomorrow. I have to say though there was so much blood when we cut into the first roast, I thought I might be sick, I ended up eating only a salad for my Christmas Dinner, but I think the 13 family members were pretty happy, either that or they all faked it. Maybe the booze helped. Not my best Christmas dinner.

They think NY is too special to have to obey the laws of economics and common sense.

Ironically it's the taxes and collateral business from big finance and Wall Street that they blame all societies ill on that enables De Bolshevik and other NYC proggies to play Santa

If Wall Street goes through another big crash, they're shit outta luck

I toured an Ohio-class sub many years ago.

The crew kept talking about how roomy it was compared to other type subs.

I felt like a sardine.

They also said submariners are the most polite people on Earth because you can't get anywhere on the sub unless somebody else gets out of your way.

99 85 I've heard that when a surface ship has all the
engines off and it's quiet belowdecks, the pressure even at 25 ft below
the waterline makes some frightful noises with the hull

Posted by: kbdabear at December 27, 2014 04:00 PM (GrXXa)

The only time all the engines are off is when you are in port. The only noise you hear is a nearby tin can or sub with active sonar pinging. The hull doesn't make any noise.

Q - What's the difference between a fairy tale and a sailor story?

117 Even at pier-side, most surface ships have generators running, as the average pier-based power source isn't enough to run a ship's electrical needs, with HVAC, bilge pumps and other requirements.

I think the only ships that'd be completely silent, would be those of the Mothball Fleet, wrapped in their cocoons of polymer sheeting and urethane sealants.

In those, you might hear some sounds from without the hull, maybe some creaking and groaning as the docklines stretch under tension, then give and relax on the rebound.

In San Diego Bay, you'd also hear the clicking and popping of the Trigger Shrimp, but hell, you hear those when snoozing on a 30 ft. sloop, too.

Sound convection in the water is a mysterious thing, indeed.

Depends on the pier. When we tied up at Alameda we could shutdown all the generators and go cold iron off of the shore power connections. Not so in San Diego. We usually had to anchor out there and keep two plants on the line.

126 At one time there was talk of closing the Potrero power plant in San Fransisco. The problem is that San Francisco, being a large load at the end of a peninsula, needs to have some electricity generated there to avoid voltage drop. One solution that was seriously considered was to temporarily park a submarine or surface ship dockside to put electricity into the PGE grid. Generator barges, a la Nigeria, were also considered. In the end, the Potrero plant was allowed to be repowered with modern equipment.
