20 "The day before I was heading out of town for the Thanksgiving weekend, my bank told me the IRS had frozen my accounts. They didn't give me a reason why, just a phone number to call," Ms. O'Donnell said in an interview this week.

She said she called the Internal Revenue Service and was told the agency had concluded she owed $30,000 in taxes from a 2008 house transaction, which was long ago accounted for on her federal returns. She said she implored the agency to check her tax records and eventually was told the levy was generated in error and her accounts would be freed up.

Although IRS officials removed the levy, they first withdrew all the funds from her account. They said that, too, was in error and the funds would be returned to her. The funds have not been replaced, Ms. O'Donnell said.

... there is an easy solution that will put an end to this kind of abuse:

1) put IRS employees on a "Wall Street" style of pay (30% salary, 70% bonuses, taken from a pool)

2) put all the bonus money into a pool

3) allow those abused the IRS to file claims against the bonus pool (i.e. give them 'standing' in court)

4) make pensions based on the final amount received by each employee

5) add money to bonus pool for proof (admissible in court) that other departments of the government, outside the IRS, tried to exploit taxpayers (like the EOP)

30 The one with the most contrasting blue and gold. The one that captures wet reflection and light. It is the City of Lights, mais oui? And not the dirty old drudging sad town. It is what would catch an artist's eye sufficiently to compel him to paint a picture.

It's simple as that. Rarely does an artist create a colorless somber picture. They do. But not that often.

A friend of mine came across a sleep town somewhere in Umbria, and everything was closed. Somehow, as is my friend's wont, he befriended a guy who ran a small trattoria and then instantly the whole town showed up for a feast.

Evidently the pasta was so delicious that when my friend inquired, the man said that he went to cooking school in New York but he learned ho to make his noodles at Wo-Hop in Chinatown!

127 Among the top 100 individual donors to political groups, more than half gave primarily to Democrats or their allies. Among groups that funneled more than $100,000 to allies, the top of the list tilted overwhelmingly toward Democrats -- a group favoring the GOP doesn't appear on the list until No. 14.

The two biggest super PACs of 2014? Senate Majority PAC and House Majority PAC -- both backing Democrats.

In all, the top 10 individual donors to outside groups injected almost $128 million into this year's elections. Democratic-leaning groups collected $91 million of it.

Among the 183 groups that wrote checks of $100,000 or more to another group, Democrats had a 3-to-1 cash advantage. The biggest player was the National Education Association, at $22 million. Not a single Republican-leaning group cracked the top 10 list of those transferring money to others.

Overall, for the campaign season that just ended, donors who gave more than $1 million sent roughly 60 cents of every dollar to liberal groups. Among the 10 biggest donors, Democrats outspent Republicans by an almost 3-to-1 margin.

So we were out doing Civil Air Patrol stuff which got us kids a ride in this old farmers Cessna class or similar light air craft flying out of his hay field.

... and we're making the turn onto final approach to land in his hayfield, bordered by tall trees at that end, and I knew just enough about flying to look at the instruments and the old guys says, "never mind the instruments. Half of them don't work anyway."

Oh, FFS.

If by "booming" you mean "being leveled by explosions."

We never recovered from "The Great Recession" (government statisticians are paid to lie). The lowering gas prices are good short-term, and *could* be good long-term, but it's way too early to tell. It's much more likely that it's going to be bad long-term as Russian and ME economies shart their beds.

Of course, at this point, TFG's approval doesn't matter. He's not up for election again, and I just don't see anyone on the D bench who generates the same kind of enthusiasm.

At Friday night's monthly bird club meeting (which I had drifted away from for awhile) it was learned that, no, I had NOT taken my love to the best avian care as I had thought.

Turns out that vet had killed so many pet birds that a class action suit had been brought against her, and she wound up selling the business. But not before taking $2,500+ off my hide to deliver back a dying bird "with a bill of good health". ARRRGH!

216 @175 My question is, "Why are Chinese restaurants so busy at Christmas?" Yes, I know except for millions of Chinese who are Christians, there are probably a lot of Chinese who aren't celebrating Christmas and that other restaurants aren't open, but are there so many Jews known for liking Chinese food-or is that they don't want to cook at home on a day that isn't a holiday for them but is for other people?
--------------------------

I've got a friend who had to work yesterday at the Japanese place that employs her.

I suspect that the reason restaurants that are open do well is because sometimes no one wants to do all the work that's involved in preparing the meal. A lot of work goes into each of the holiday meals that my family prepares. It's not so bad now because I've got a ton of siblings, and enough of them are local to farm out pretty much everything. And when we were all younger, we went over to my grandparents' house with all of my aunts and uncles doing the work that my siblings do now. But I can easily see an isolated family, or perhaps a group of isolated singles that are far away from their families, who want a nice meal. And at the same time they're also not interested in going to all the trouble that's involved in preparing that meal. For those people, eating out makes sense.

Yes. When you dig into the numbers, our economy is still in the toilet.

All those "new" jobs? Temporary and/or part time.
Most of those have gone to new immigrants (both legal and il-) with most people who where already in the US prior to the Recession (who subsequently lost their jobs) still not having found employment.

Workforce participation is still at or near historic lows, and interest rates just dropped AGAIN (not a good thing by any means).

Food prices are still ridiculous, which is bad for everyone but especially the poor and middle class (whom the Democrats are supposed to love, it is said).

As to the troll's assertion that the GOP would not have made it's gains were the election held now- it lives in fantasy land. When BHO is on the ticket, minority turnout is at or very near historic highs, meaning their continued losses with whites of all categories don't hurt as much. When BHO is *not* on the ticket, that doesn't hold true.

272 How will Republicans win if the economy is good in 2016?

Well, after the race riots of the summer of 2015 killed off most of the inner city voting base, the Republicans had an easy time of winning in 2016.

273 According to "Legal Insurrection" site, Ballotpedia lists the top contenders for candidates for President in 2016. They are:

Biden
Clinton
Cuomo
Gillibrand
Klobuchar
O'Malley
Sanders
Schweitzer
Warren

and a few others I forgot. They're all old white people. Hmmmmmmm

287 Are there any tv marathons anyone is fully or partially watching? I can't sit and just watch tv for hours BUT....

The Space Channel here just finished 6 days showing every modern episode of Doctor Who. Comedy Channel is playing "The Big Bang Theory" until Monday. Other channels are doing mini marathons of shows. "Z Nation" is having all 13 episodes aired Wednesday, so I'll DVR that because it was a fun show.

I think the first ever television show marathon that I recall was about 25 years ago with either the old "Twilight Zone" episodes or classic "Star Trek."
