15 Very nice art work. That is what it looks like out my window every time it snows. Well, the house accros the road is different, and there is the occasional lumber truck rumbling by. Sometimes the snow plow. Occasionally a car goes in the ditch. And there is often the gentle whine of a racing snow machine complete with doppler shift.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say anything about Dec. 25. The fact that Dec. 25 was chosen to displace a pagan festival has been known for many centuries and - who cares? Only an ignorant atheist who thinks it's some big revelation because he thinks all Christians believe Jesus was literally born on Dec. 25. Yawn.

Sorry to disappoint you but you're destroyed nobody's faith.

Actually, I wonder if the ancient Israelites paid much attention to birthdays at all. I'm assuming the Romans and Greeks did because they put stock in astrology. But I don't know if even they cared much about the exact date of someone's birth or just what sign they were born under.

74 I had a lovely Christmas at my sisters, until my nephew's fiance's friends dropped by. She's a lovely young women - but two of her friends are not. They are SJW's and one bragged about taking part in a "die-in" at a local mall on Christmas Eve. Even the Dems in my family found these two obnoxious. It's telling that they are so estranged their own families that they are over at the home of the future inlaws of a friend of theirs -probably because everyone else hates them. And they walked right in and started talking politics (verboten at our family gatherings) and now we all hate them too. It was like Mary Cloggenstein X2 (the real thing)crashing Christmas

After listening to one rant about police brutality for 20 minutes I left - because if I had stayed any longer I would have lost my temper and ripped into her and I didn't want to fight with anybody on Christmas Day.

I like my nephew's fiance. I hope she gets better friends. These were 2 old college roommates who are still in college. She's not. Drop these losers, please.

Right ON.
At the Christmas get-together this evening, my wife also told my granddaughter she could have her 50 lb recurve.
(Since both of us are pushing 70 pretty hard, neither of us backpack or hunt deer like we used to. My stuff is useless to the granddaughter, because I'm left handed.)

188 I'm going to have to read this book one of these days:

http://www.eclipse.net/~molnar/

It's gotten good reviews from both scientists and theologians. The author is an astronomer who postulates that the Star of Bethlehem was actually a very powerful horoscope for April 17, 6 B.C.

In the modern era, many people have tried to find astronomical explanations for the Star, such as comets*, supernovae, or planetary conjunctions. But that's chauvinistic, because it focuses on things that we moderns would regard as impressive apparitions in the sky.

Instead, Molnar examines what people 2000 years ago would have considered important. That's good science. Before the modern era beginning around 1600, astronomy and astrology were one and the same.

(*Comets can be safely ruled out, because they were universally regarded as evil omens. This applies across all cultures as far as I can tell. They were more likely to be interpreted as predicting the death of kings, not their birth.)

254 Merry Christmas, everyone!

I'd like to apologize for the song parody I made earlier in the "Merry Christmas" thread.

After reading all of the posts, I didn't find any other posts with the slight and vitriol that was included in that little ditty.

On such a Holy Day, my Pride got in the way as I hit "Enter". I could have saved that sort of stupidity for the ONT ...if not altogether.

Now, don't get me wrong. I felt ashamed for exactly as long as I should have; and for those who are quite concerned with others' well-being-?

-I am fine.

It made me realize that putting things into perspective was what I did as my finger hung above the "Enter" key. Pride allowed me to "excuse" it. When I re-read it, it felt wrong.

For anyone who found humor in it, that's cool. I am posting this for those who were embarrassed for me. ...And I thank you.

On this day, more than any other, I should have checked my silly ego at the door and put my "clever pride" aside.

Posting this makes me feel better, as I needed to "confess" my lapse in judgement.

Secondary-Apologies for the TL;DR explanation.

Feliz Navidad, Amigos!

296 So I read the article on how the left shouldn't collectivize guilt in the Dump. Seems to me one thing missing from the article is the difference between the left and right's rhetoric.
On the left we have huge protests ranging from several dozens to several thousands gathered togetherexhorting their opinion enthusiatically.
On the right- you have websites and blogs. The one gathering I can think of was Glenn Beck's and everyone that showed up was so mild-mannered, it only made the news circuit on the blogs.
So one has a lot in common with a mob and the other for the most part is individual activity. And I suspect this is why we see violence from the Left far more often than on the Right.
The frenzy of the mob however, shouldn't obsolve the individual of their repsonsibility.

Eh. Fosters is ok. There's nothing wrong with it. At least back in the day. Haven't had it in ages. Have had much, much worse. XXXX is made from brown snake venom. There IS a sort of view it's sub par... but that's just due to tribalism and whatnot, people drink what they're used to and what's prevalent locally. Fosters has never really had a "base" so to speak. But, yeah it's not what you could call top shelf. Middle shelf. Cairns Draught rules.
