32 Coca-Cola began construction on its first plant in Gaza on Monday, as the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) allowed nine trucks with production equipment to enter the coastal enclave.

The factory, which will take three years to build at a cost of $20 million, will stand in the Karni industrial zone and is expected to initially employ 120 people, but eventually create 1,000 jobs, including those that sprout up indirectly around the factory.

59 George Steinbrenner charity for children of slain NYPD officers having busiest year since 9/11

It was a sad and all-too-familiar phone call for K.C. Fuchs of the Silver Shield Foundation, the non-profit charity former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner helped found in 1982 to serve the families of public servants killed in the line of duty.

On Saturday, Fuchs reached out once again to the New York Police Department to remind them that the group was there to help the children of officer Rafael Ramos, who was gunned down alongside his partner Wenjian Liu in Brooklyn on Saturday.

The Silver Shield provides education support to children of slain officers from the NYPD, as well as the children of fallen members of the New York Fire Department, state troopers in the tri-state area, the Port Authority and police officers on Long Island and in Connecticut.

More than 800 children are under our caring wing, says Fuchs. Some of them are babies when these tragedies happen. Our support goes covers everything from educational support so they can prepare for college, all the way up to specialized postgraduate school.

The Yankees are our largest supporters.

I talk too much about the Spurs here, but they play old school team basketball, and they win. They're the winningest team in pro-sports over the last 15 years or so.

Duncan, Parker and Ginobili are now the second winningest trio in NBA history, and they all take a pay cut so they can stay together and so the team can buy other good players and win championships. All those guys would rather pass than shoot: it's hilarious sometimes. No egos at all. I'm crazy about them.

Speaking of that scrunt, what more proof do you need, if proof be needed, that the CIA doesn't have a "OO" section? How hard would be to sneak an assassin into Cuban, on a Canadian or Mexican passport, and have her eliminated? I doubt Castro's cops have her under 24-hour guard. It should be pretty easy for a trained professional to get close, garrotte her, and be gone before the alarm is raised. The fact that it hasn't happened, or even been tried, is telling.

Timmy just gave a huge donation to a cancer research project I support. Just one more reason to worship him.

That's the only pro-team I follow, esp. since my first love was polluted by Jerry Jones. Bleccch.

Posted by: stace at December 22, 2014 09:25 PM (ImzkZ)

I agree. I'm not a Spurs fan but I have a lot of respect for the franchise, both for its record of success over the past two decades and the way the franchise is run. Probably the best franchise in professional sports since the mid-90s when Duncan arrived and Popovich took over as coach.

Aside from a few exceptions (yeah...the Spurs are pretty cool), the NHL is the last place where real team sports are played.
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at December 22, 2014 09:27 PM (Zu3d9)

I'll take your word for it. I've never seen a hockey game in my entire life. I played B-ball in high school though, and it was my favorite sport to play, though not my best.

Spurs fans are always whining because we think they don't get the credit they should; they're not coastal, and they don't have flashy individuals. I think a great assist is more exciting then the shot, so to me they're really fun to watch.

Half the team has been injured, and last week they had TWO triple overtimes, and lost both. I was at the first one, which was their first triple OT since the 1980s. Good thing it wasn't a school night.

God. Colecovision. Talk about a word I haven't heard in decades.

Slap, you really looking for a VCR? If so, I've got 3-4 sitting around that I'd love to get rid of. One of them may be a combo. I'll have to check.

Posted by: Ricardo Kill at December 22, 2014 09:50 PM (pb82p)

You know something, I still have a VHS VCR but it hasn't been plugged in for years. But I do still have some VHS tapes that I haven't converted to DVDs so I should hook up the VCR and see if it still works so I can determine which VHS tapes to convert. Most of them aren't labeled properly so I don't know all the contents. I'll bug you if I can't get my VCR working.

So do the wife and I ... but we keep it on a high shelf.

189 Colecovision?!? Man, that's what I owned back then, with an adapter to play Atari 2600 games that I already owned. My best friend owned an Intellivision, which was superior, but we played both of them all the time.

Posted by: Slappy at December 22, 2014 10:07 PM (Am9Tn)

190 Old school video consoles are for sale at Dollar General. Think I saw an Intellivision and Atari.

197 I've mentioned before that when I was a kid, our TV repairman was a former radar operator for the Luftwaffe.

Once I took a VCR to him with a stuck tape. It was a documentary about the Focke Wulf 190. He got the tape out, and remarked about how much he liked the program.

Sorry I'm late to the discussion ...

... Ricardo - don't dick around with those inferior formats. Go LaserDisc !!!

Posted by: ScoggDog

BTW, I have a Pioneer Laser Disk with remote and functions that I'll gladly sell you. Shipping will probably be a tad expensive due to weight.

I also have a pair of high end S-VHS decks and a box of tapes I'd like to move to. Again, weight is an issue.
