Oh Boy: Woman Who Started #IllRideWithYou Viral Meme Admits... It Pretty Much Didn't Happen, and Was Mostly Imagined

After the Sheik killed two people, the media turned to praising Islam and highlighting the plight of Muslims in the West, because that's what we always do after a Muslim kills people in the West: We praise Islam, and then worry about what hypothetical crimes Westerners may commit against Muslims.

Kinda skipping over the actual crimes a Muslim has just committed against Westerners.

By the way: That's kind of a two-fer for al Qaeda and ISIS, isn't it? Not only do they get the terrorism and murder and fear they seek, but then they get the Western media praising Islam as the world's most peaceful faith in the aftermath of the slaughter, don't they?

Do we want to give them free two-fers like this?

Anyway, so after a bloodthirsty sheikh (is there any other kind?) murders two people and holds a coffee shop hostage, of course we have to turn to talking about how awful Westerners are to Muslim, because, obviously, that's the storyline when two non-Muslims lay dead, murdered by a Muslim.

But it turns out the story the media forced on us for twenty-four hours was pretty much a lie.

The story went like this: A woman saw a Muslim woman on a subway car. The non-Muslim people were staring at the Muslim woman hatefully, because we're full of hate, even though we don't seem to murder Muslims, but instead seem to be murdered by Muslims, but apparently we're hateful for occasionally noticing that.

So the evil Christians are staring at the Muslim woman, making her uncomfortable, until at last she removes her hajib, in a silent, shameful submission to the hateful glares of the cultural-imperialist Christians.

And then the Muslim woman gets off the subway, because she's still hounded by hate, but this nice progressive woman gets off with her, in a show of solidarity, and says to her: "I'll ride with you."

And the media read their twitter accounts on the air for 24 hours, repeating this wonderful story.

Small problem: It's not true. It never was. The woman who originally reported the story on FaceBook now "confesses" (her words) that many details were simply invented, or, as she calls it, "editorialized."

Confession time. In my Facebook status, I editorialised. She wasn't sitting next to me. She was a bit away, towards the other end of the carriage. Like most people she had been looking at her phone, then slowly started to unpin her scarf.
Tears sprang to my eyes and I was struck by feelings of anger, sadness and bitterness. It was in this mindset that I punched the first status update into my phone, hoping my friends would take a moment to think about the victims of the siege who were not in the cafe.
I spent the rest of the journey staring--rudely--at the back of her uncovered head. I wanted to talk to her, but had no idea what to say. Anything that came to mind seemed tokenistic and patronising. She might not even be Muslim or she could have just been warm! Besides, I was in the “quiet carriage” where even conversation is banned.
By sheer fluke, we got off at the same station, and some part of me decided saying something would be a good thing. Rather than quiz her about her choice of clothing, I thought if I simply offered to walk her to her destination, it might help.
It’s hard to describe the moment when humans, and complete strangers, have a conversation with no words. I wanted to tell her I was sorry for so many things—for overstepping the mark, for making assumptions about a complete stranger and for belonging to a culture where racism was part of her everyday experience.
But none of those words came out, and our near silent encounter was over in a moment.
My second status was written as a heartbreaking postscript to my first. While the woman appeared to appreciate my gesture, we had both left defeated and deflated. What good is one small action against an avalanche of ignorance?

So:

1. She's not sure the woman was Muslim.

2. She's not sure the woman took off her scarf due to the glares of hatred. She notes it could have just been hot. She also now says the woman had mostly been looking at her phone -- and it's hard to notice the scorn of the crowd when you're reading FaceBook on your phone.

3. She never actually said, "I'll ride with you" to the woman. In fact, she never said anything to her. She just wanted to say it.

But whatever.

The media doesn't do news. The media does narratives.

They're easier and they tell the story the media wants to tell, whether they're true or not.

I get the idea, though: the Burka is a symbol of Islam. Islam is an evil death cult. We should shun symbols of evil death cults.

And think of it this way- imagine a world where Germany was still Nazi dominated (that's the closest I can get to Islam). And imagine a Jew raised in Germany was in Hawaii still wearing the yellow star.

Might they not have to be "shamed" (perhaps: "pressured" would be better) to remove the star? You and I know the yellow star is essentially a mark that they are less-than-human, but he/she grew up with it and it's part of their identity.

The Islamic Burka really is much the same way. It's sold to them as "a mark of modesty," but living in a burlap sack so long it covers your ankles and with small slits for your eyes isn't "modesty," it's a mark that you are someone's property.

Here's how I handle being asked rude questions, though the main one I get is the opposite of yours, namely ever so polite questions as to am I going to adopt, what with being of a Certain Age and childless and all.

If the person does not clue in to the polite evasions and persists in being rude, I choose to respond with whichever of the following questions I think will be most rude:

"How much money do you make?"

"What's your weight?"

"When's the last time you had sex?" (That last one is best when asked in a church lobby and, yes, I have done that)

When the questioner gets terribly offended, you reply, all wide eyed innocent "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought we were asking each other horribly rude questions!" That tends to get the point across nicely.

Though, frankly, if I were in your shoes, I would be desperately tempted to reply "My husband being hung like Ron Jeremy with a tongue like Gene Simmons."

Yeah, saw the entire trilogy marathon with friends as planned Monday in 42 fps 3D. PJ did a special intro for Battle of Five Armies, thanking all us crazy fans for doing it. The movie started right out with Smaug making shock and awe over Lake-Town, while the Master did his impression of the Democrat Senate in 2014. The title didn't even show until that part of the story had completed, with the Black Ballista Bolt turning out better than expected. (Very Eighties action movie of you PJ.

) Richard Armitage gnawed the scenery nicely as Thorin in Arkenstone deprivation mode; both me and another friend mentally re-labeled him 'Fafnir'. Dain Ironfoot has replaced Gimli as the Dwarf gamer geeks want to base their next bearded battler on, Azog and Bolg went out like bosses, and Bilbo's return home was appropriate.

For some reason, I always envisioned the writer of that ancient ur-blog as an overweight, sweaty, balding, nondescript fellow, the sort who can't look anyone in the eyes and who breaks into uncomfortable stammering when pressed into conversation. I felt sorry for him, and was convinced he was real, that his tortured little journal was authentic. It could've been a spoof; there's no way to know.

But that's the thing with this, with Progressive Social Justice Warrior Woman: she's definitely authentic in that she truly, really thinks this way. And get this: she isn't considered batshit crazy and delusional for thinking this way. They--the Left, the masters of culture--want us all to think this way. It's as if rational thought has been outlawed.

Just yesterday I yelled at a cyclist who'd blown through a red light and just missed a couple of us pedestrians. We pedestrians then continued walking - it was in silence, but I knew that they were of the same mind and the same heart as I: the cyclist was asshole.I had taken the initiative on behalf of all of us to notice and to speak upthat about the cyclist; I could feel their gratitude.

Not everyone is so bold as to speak up when they see injustice. Rather, they are inclined to suffer the ills silently, alone. In my labeling that cyclist as a "dickhead" and "dip shit", I had spoken for all of us. Perhaps this will embolden some of them to speak out in the future; to let the world know when a cyclist is being a prick.

It reminds me of a time when I was eating chips and cheese dip. I had half a bag of chips, so I cut the bag in half to ease my access to them, poured some cheese dip into a bowl and microwaved it. I feel bad about this, but it was good. Then I ran out of chips but still had dip so I opened another bag of chips. Then I ran out of dip so I opened another jar. This went on until I choked on a chip. I couldn't breathe for a few seconds. I was thinking how awful it would be to die from snack food while so many people were starving in the Union of Myanmar. Anyway, I didn't die.

I was left with an empty jar of cheese dip, so I put it in the sink to rinse out. The thing about empty jars of cheese dip is the rim -- the cheese cakes on. On and off, I re-rinsed and scrubbed and chipped away at the layer of cheese around the edge. Finally I got the jar clean enough for the recycling bin. So I told everyone.

The thing is, I only meant to do that. I actually just tossed the empty glass jar into the trash.
