5 This is one of the major reasons I left CA and all big cities. When I lived in the Bay Area if I didn't make it to the freeway before 3:30 pm it would take me until after 5 pm to get home in what should have been a half hour drive. The mornings were not bad but the afternoons were hell.

.We have that here in Kentucky already and I rarely see anyone open carry. Most people I know prefer to get the CC Permit. Not sure why that is. It probably has something to do with not needing to jump through any hoops to get a permit. The process is about 100x times easier than it was when I lived in CT.

TX was one of the few southern States that did not allow open carry. I have walked into banks down in GA with a .357 on my hip. I had a CC permit though too.

I actually think it might work to our benefit if Jeb and Mitt (and Krispy Kreosote) run. They might eat each other alive in the debates and pave the way for "the conservative" whoever that may be.

Last time it was just the opposite. We had Mitt all by himself pitted against a field of non-establishmentarians.

We have several of those rags here in NYC. Essentially they print about a page or so of the daily press release from AP and the remaining 18 pages are adverts.

In short, the NY Times, but with a smidgen of integrity.

As you've already pointed out, the only ones who "buy" that tired bullshit are the ones who pull the strings. That's what got us Teh Mutt in '12. And will probably get us Jebbie in '16.

After seeing the recent pathetic Republican actions in Congress -- who the hell else would celebrate electoral victory by surrendering all power? -- and looking at the alleged anal-yses of those in the rightwing blogosphere, I'm pretty well convinced that defending this country from enemies within is no longer a viable option.

76 I've got a new policy this Christmas season: I'm blunt. Yesterday at a Christmas cocktail party an acquaintance of mine said she was upset with the cops for the Garner death. So I calmly said she should support ending all the silly laws criminalizing selling cigs then. She said yeah, but racism. I pointed out (in a friendly way) that the leader of the cops on scene was a black woman sergeant and, oh by the way, even Gardners wife said "not a racist thing".

My friend was abashed that her conventional wisdom was wrong and walked away from me looking grumpy. Normally I don't bother arguing with idiots but I've sort of had it. People have to speak up and get into it if we expect change. There are just too many dummies out there getting their info from CNN or NBC, and therefore well propagandized but uninformed.

81 Had to have all of my "unavailable" dates for January and February submitted to the regional manager of the broadcast company by the 14th, yesterday. I submitted them a week ago, there are none, but I'm hoping that the 14th cut-off means that we're going to get the assignment sheet for Jan/Feb. today. It's an Excel doc with a bunch of cells waiting to be filled in with names in various columns, play-by-play, color, camera 1, camera 2, etc. I'm thinking between five and ten gigs would be great, less than five a bit disappointing, more than ten and I'll be pumped.

You have to remember that by Massachusetts standards, Chaaaaahlie Bakah is indeed a flaming conservative. He won because Martha Croakley was simply too disgusting to light the liberals' fires.

Don't forget he was damn near the only non-Democrat to win in MA this year. Voters did pick a lesbian midget basketball player and a total mindless loon for the other big offices (AG and Treasurer).

Chaaaaahlie knows his base. The transition from Devil Patrick to Baker will be seamless.

Newer diesel cars don't even pump out soot. They have very effective traps for all that particulate stuff.

A few years ago, I spent quite a bit of time driving a Mercedes "clean diesel." No one -- not even a few "experts" could tell it was a diesel. And an E-Class Mercedes that gets better than 30 MPG and has good performance is a thing of beauty, let me tell ya.

I liked the new VW diesels better, though.

135 Long time back, when diesel was a lower distillate and taxes were lower, the fuel was cheaper than gas -- especially during the lost decade when refineries were snapping shit to produce no-lead gas for the whole market.

Now, you get to choose whether you want to compete for motor fuel with the trucking, airline, and rail industries and every furnace in New England, or compete for your home heating fuel with all of industry, and the National Coal-Free Grid.

Diesel engines still go longer TBO. So still a good choice for tractors both farm and road, and possibly large stand-alone generators.

I use "red" in my tractor, quite legally. You can tell the difference in smoke and smell (50 years ago the slang for diesel engines was "smokers.") I consider it a safety factor, like those damned back-up beepers. "Smell that? Man working."
