Early Morning Thread, 12/13/14 - Rocking Kiev edition [krakatoa]

I'm not going to lie. This past week pretty well sucked.

Between the Social Justice escalating War on Truth taking on a frighteningly open fascist tone; Boehner selling us all up the river in a gutless display of giving Obama pretty damn near everything he wants, (seriously -- would anyone be surprised to have a hot-mic incident with Boehner on the phone to Obama telling him he'll have more latitude "after the elections"?); and my job in Chicago going sideways requiring me to yes, still be working on it as I type all this up at 3 a.m., my week has been less than stellar.

But we'll always have Kiev.

oie_JMRGqyZn6A9W.jpg

Thanks to comments in the past couple days by AtC with an assist from someone else I don't recall for the inspiration of the above spoof.

I got one of those barrel-aging kits where you make your own aged whiskey from "white dog" for my birthday a couple of years ago.

It was interesting.

At a certain point, in the aging process the whiskey tasted exactly like carmel popcorn. (using a corn-based white dog). I think that was the flavor high-point.

Anywho, the "angel's share" was much too high,( those greedy, winged drunks) to be a regular thing.

So, I tried aging cocktails, thinking the sugar in the cocktails wildcat as a kind of caulk to reduce the angel's share.

That worked out pretty nicely.

Two cocktails I can recommend aging; Manhattan and the Negroni.

121 Why thank you Mr Dave. Those barrels are not overpriced. I may get one if the shipping isn't too bad.

I had quite a barrel collection once, but I've let them "expire" over the years. Currently producing barrel-stave menorahs copied from the one I saw at the Willett's Distillery gift shoppe. Mine are cheaper. Theirs have a higher char level.

I happen to know I'm getting one of those little table-top distilling rigs as a "holiday gift." Of course I will not be illegally producing potable alcohol. On the other and, oxidized wine and flat beer will never go to waste around here, as if it ever did. The barrel, to coin a moronism, is an important part of the process.

Ha ha! Yeah, that bronze was just a gateway to plastics...which people use to type out their screeds on the importance of undoing thousands of years of human progress.

With my budget, I am afraid to get on such a list, but recently lost out on a bargain pistol because I hadn't pre-registered. I should bite the bullet. Thanks for the summary.

I have used http://www.luckygunner.com/ in the past but your link beats them but good!

190 What's the last time you heard "Jamoke"? Joe is supposed to be short for that, an abbrev of Mocca Java, the first coffee blend. It is getting hard to find, as the chic coffee crowd has moved on to soybean-and-SD40 confections. Quality down too.

197 "Jamoke" is how Magliozzi brothers sometimes referred to themselves (Click and Clack auto talk show on NPR). Yeah, I know...NPR. And the two jamokes were from Boston, but sometimes a guy could pick up a little useful as well as useless information. Tom Magliozzi recently died. Alzheimers.

205 Every man with a teenage daughter needs a backhoe, and lime, lots of lime!

Reminds me of talking to a cousin who is a Chicago cop.
My wife asks him if he ever took his wife deer hunting. He told my wife the only way he would bring her to deer camp would be in the back of the pickup, next to a bag of lime and a shovel. My wife was speechless, which is a feat in itself.

209 Plus I'm doing to Coco Bongo and I'll have the hottest woman over forty with me! And she'll "empty" before the show and after! Men married or dating Russian girls will understand the " empty" remark.
