49 The tea party is still very much alive. The GOP establishment is spending all its resources trying to fight it instead of the DNC. Part of this disgrace of a spending bill was changes to campaign finance reform to allow more big donor money because the establishment is still trying to crush the tea party revolt. The movement is pure grass roots in that it is composed of disparate groups with a lot of people who believe in the same thing.

Unfortunately, we are all not professional agitators/rioters who can go anywhere at the drop of a dime (we do not have the equivalent of a Sharpton or Jackson), and we do not have a media that will make us out to be virtuous freedom fighters.

We also do not have a political party to call home anymore.

Since the 1.75 M who marched against 404Care in Sept, 2009 were ignored, it is time to march on DC on a weekday, when our mandarins are actually in DC. #Occupy the Capital and the Congressional office buildings. If there are enough people, #occupy the White House, too These are our buildings and these traitorous fucks work for us, not we being tax serfs to their progressive agenda. Also, any records in those offices are ours, so we should take them, too. Time to let these political scum see a real grass roots #Occupy protest. Metal pitchforks mandatory.

The Tea Party didn't "produce" them. They allegedly aligned themselves with it, just like you can walk in and get a Target "membership" card.

Whatever the Tea Party stood for -- and IIRC a few random "principles" were advocated at one time -- has become meaningless. The name has become a slang term and/or epithet.

It's as if John Boner identified himself as a Democrat. Wait...hasn't he already done that?

80 Plumbing question. Sorry if it is convoluted.
Got a new shower installed (in Japan), and the contractor was so bad I threw him off the job. Finishing up myself, and there may be a problem. They use special PVC joints that are clear, and you can see the glue to make sure it is a good connection. Well, the one joint that is near impossible to get at shows no glue for the entire upper half excepting maybe a thin line at the very end of the pipe. In other words, the seal is only 1/4" deep, and not the 1.5" that is typically glued.

I have not done a leak test, but I expect it will be fine, ... for now. Not sure how long it will last. I suspect the shower company required the clear joints to make damn sure they are correct since they are so hard to change.

So the question -- how thick is the glue line on a typical 2" PVC drain? Will I sound like a foreign idiot for complaining (I planned to pay him for the plumbing, but now I want to deduct it.)

We use to be the party of people and business. What was good for business was good for America. This is not so true anymore. COC and Big Business has learned if they sidle up with government it's good for them. The government has learned how to use Big Business to their ends.

I guess what I'm driving at is some sort of national boycott or strike or something. What will it take to get a million man march - a REAL million man march - to DC and to every state capital?

95 Kids, there is no "Tea Party." It's the conservative base that has no centralized official infrastructure.

Therefore, when a Pat Toomey or a Scott Brown runs as a "Tea Party" candidate, they are merely playing to the base for votes.

If there really was an actual political party, I don't think people like them would necessarily be supported or endorsed by it, unless perhaps as a last resort.

Bottom line is we need a real Conservative political party. Whether that means taking back the GOP or all of us packing up and moving to the Conservative or Constitutional or whatever existing party we can commandeer.

"We" are starry-eyed loons, just like the Democrats. Show us some New Great Conservative Hope -- so regarded because he/she inadvertently mouths a conservative principle or two -- and we're like a Democrat ogling Choom Boy's tight Levi's.

Case in point: Rubio and Gowdy.

Almost as bad, we are the Party of Theories. Every time we get our butts whipped in an election of Congressional action, we anal-yze the results and proclaim that, in the great game of eleventy-dimensional political chess, a total loss was in fact a Major Victory. That's the approach the Corpulent "Captain" takes, and is one of the many reasons my visits to Tepid Air can, on an annual basis, be counted on the fingers of one hand.

In reality we are, as the Mocha Messiah said, "bringing a knife to a gun fight" and, as a result, we have been skooshed like a bug.

Ultimately, we will "win." Reality always does. But it won't be pretty, and we "winners" will have to deal with the same destruction, pain and misery as the losers.

I actually prefer the French press but it has two drawbacks. 1 - the coffee cools down quite a bit as it steeps and 2 - you have to drink it straight away or else it gets very bitter.

But if you make it just for yourself, these are not real big issues, I don't think. And just get yourself a thermal carafe to keep it warm if you make extra.

162 There are plenty of fracking oil fields that can pump below $50/bbl, one is under $40. There was a chart making the rounds earlier this week.

I think the Saudi's real target here is Iran.

Yeah I am no so sure about that. I mean not that Iran is not a target also, I am sure that is true, but it will restrain continued American Energy recovery also as prices fall. 166 MPPPP, winter blues?

Part of it, yes. And I've really been letting myself go for the longest time, so am sluggish and overweight, which doesn't help, either with energy or with self-esteem. And a lot of it is the struggle with my new book - I've got a beginning, a middle and an end, but they're three disparate parts that I can't figure out how to put together. So it's a combination of things which makes me want to pull the covers over my head and take a long winter's nap.

169 158 Yeah I hear you, HOWEVER, the problem is, and the Saudi's know this, is that the cost to recover the energy from things like fracking is much higher than for the Saudi's to pump the shit out of thier wells. So their "intent" here is to drive the price so low so that "fracking" and the such go belly up and then they will raise the prices again. Just saying

Talking mostly out of my ass here but as far as fracking/ horizontal drilling and all the other techniques are concerned it seems to me that the technology and infrastructure are in place so that if the ragheads drive the price down to the point that it is no longer profitable to frack then things could be mothballed until the price goes back up, in effect creating a price ceiling. Then we can pump the Gulf dry and the muzzies can eat sand.

177 Like any industry, a downturn is only going to lower the median cost to produce. Businesses become very wasteful during booms, and a downturn usually means consolidation, cost cutting, and closure for those that can't get the costs down.

in other words, fracking is going to be a lot more competitive after this glut-to-stop-fracking than before.

So, I agree, their real target is iran.

188 Nevergiveup @ 135: Folks in NYC don't own cars and never buy gasoline. I lived in Manhattan for eight years and I think I saw maybe three gas stations in my roaming across the entire island.

Whenever news (local, network or cable) does a story on gas prices, the Hess station at 45th Street and Tenth Avenue is the reporters' backdrop, and you rarely see anything other than a taxicab fueling up. It's the closest station to almost all the news operations.

The rare Manhattan weirdo who does own a car waits to fuel up on the far side of the tunnel for those sweet and low NJ prices.

190 A quick compendium of "business" news, as gleaned from WSJ.

First, and really important: Introducing Guinness "The 1759," a peated-malt near-barley wine. I once spoke with the great beer critic Michael Jackson (for about 2 minutes), and he didn't think there was any future in peated ales. $40.

Both Yum brands and McD's have new CEO's whose "fresh" push will consist of eliminating preservatives, which they feel they can do because of fast turnover. I don't think postmodern business orgs are up to the re-training that would need to go with this, and there is (partly our fault) no prestige involved in manageing food-prep processes at the consumer level ("flipping burgers"). Expect widespread foodbornes later this fiscal year. Thank God we have the CDC to save us.

Couple of ONT's ago, bunch of morons were impressing each other with how uch they know about the engineering of vinyl LP's. Wall Street has noticed. As we discussed, it's the only growth niche in the entire music sector, and of course investors are...not interested. So there's the usual museum search going on for equipment, and guys not being able to retire because no one bothered to learn their obsolete technology from them. Space suit sleeves, credit card slide imprinters, buggy whips. Same old story. For want of a horseshoe nail: US spec ops first into Afghanistan had to borrow cavalry saddles. We'd thrown ours out.

202 49 The tea party is still very much alive. The GOP establishment is spending all its resources trying to fight it instead of the DNC. Part of this disgrace of a spending bill was changes to campaign finance reform to allow more big donor money because the establishment is still trying to crush the tea party revolt. The establishment knows nothing but contempt for their base.
-------

I think the problem with this line of thought is that the establishment doe not think of the Tea Party as their base- except at elections. For that reason I also feel that there are a plethora of democrat registered voters who can no longer align themselves with the far left democrat party of today. This is the perfect storm politically to produce a new party which would encompass all the disinfranchised of each party.

Yesterday I was talking to a friend who voted for Obama but is now disgusted by him. And I was told that his entire extended family-a VERY Union family-feel like Obama is ruining our country with immigration. The chances of them voting for Hillary or Warren are nonexistent, but neither would they vote for another Bush. I was asked what I knew about Ben Carson!

232 Oddly, "Melitta" is not Latin. It was the female inventor's first name.
Only dis on Melitta is that there are some sub-standard recycled-organic filter cones out there. Use the real Melitta filter and nothing is better. Grocery stores don't have the large filters any more because meth labs were snatching them up.

Chemex is still fun, and I've never seen anything other than lab-quality filter sheets for them. Hard to pour, though. And you need that little vent clip or the water will never go down.

No other system even comes close. Of course, most people don't really like coffee; they like coffee-perfumed soybean and alcohol-SD40 confections.

At least for McD's.

I spent lots of time there in my teenage years (which was not that long ago) and I think they could get rid of preservatives in a lot of things without any real impact on food safety.

Firstly, a whole bunch of McD's stuff is cooked from frozen, which limits preservative usage anyway. Certain things (like salad mixes) aren't conducive to preservatives.

Other things will get rid of "preservatives" but still use things like CO2/nitrogen packing and various calcium additives (like the apple slices already do)

236 Blood in an egg this morning. Probably an omen.

A man sold his soul to the Devil. When it came time to give it up, he tried to bargain. "I can show you an Indian who has the greatest memory in the world. Even better than yours."

"If he does,"
the Devil said, "You get to keep your soul."

The man showed the Devil the Indian. The Devil asked him, "Do you like eggs?"

"Yes,"
said the Indian. The Devil then disappeared in a puff of smoke. Fifty years later, he appeared before the Indian and raised his hand in greeting. "How."

The Indian said, "Scrambled."

A few years ago the US F-18 was in the running for the Indians to adopt as their next generation fighter. It was a major improvement in US-Indian relations that they were even considering a US airplane.

In the end, the reason given by the Indians for rejecting the F-18 was that even though it would be assembled in India, they were concerned that the US government would cut them off for spares at a critical time. I think that they had a valid concern.

Predominantly African American congressional staffers stood on the steps of the Capitol and made the Hands up, dont shoot gesture that has come to symbolize opposition to the non-indictments.

The Daily Beast reported that organizers had originally considered staging a die-in in the Capitol Complex, but felt that might alienate some and make the event less inclusive.

My temperature continues to drop. I came in at 98.4°, last check (0730) was 96.1°. I'm not sure if that's a factor or not.

Also Percocet, which I'm still blazingly grateful for, as it let's me sleep for four consecutive hours at a time vitals taken every four, so that's the max) for the first time in about a week.

Several of the tests that ran Wednesday night were of the 24 hour variety, so I expect I'll lean something today.

34y/o male, 5'8, 160. Presented with rapidly expanding rash (5" x 0.5") and associated redness/pain. Ultrasound negative. Started on cleocin (450mg, 3x daily) over three days with no effect. Rash now measures 16" x 7".

IV antibiotics started Wednesday night (alternating clindomycin and one that starts with a v). No change, but no growth of rash. X rays are negative for gas in the muscle tissue, ct scan results not back, multi-site cultures not back yet.

No trauma, no broken skin, no fever, normal white count.

Allergies to all cillian drugs.

Eh, I think you might be wrong on the fast food thing.

But whatever. He's got initials after his name. I think appealing to authority in these cases is not the fallacy it is at other times.

A little more precision: if I keep my knee bent between 30 and 70 degrees, I'm fine. Resting pain hovers around a 5. As reference, I passed a 7.2 mm kidney stone last year and called it 8.5. The war taught me it can always hurt worse, so I don't believe in 10's.

I can't extend the leg straight, nor can I bend it enough to put on my own socks without that pain level spiking to an 8. Waking, sitting, standing et al. (Anything that involves blood flowing into the leg after de elevating it) is also an 8.

Pain fades after about fifteen minutes of returning to a resting position.

338 304 coffee while camping: We use a method I'd heard was employed by soldiers during the American Civil War.

Take ground coffee, sew into bags, and toss it into a regular coffee pot and boil the crap out of it. it's cheap, and it works.

One downside to the K-Cup revolution is the disappearance of coffee pods. The stores, in their ever-expanding of the K-Cups sections, just don't carry those handy pre-filter-wrapped pods anymore, or if they do, it's like a little 4-pack for about 6 bucks.

I always used the pods for camping, with a stainless steel percolator. Now I tie my own pods like you do.

Vietnam era Seabee receet: one pound of vac-pac ground coffee in 2-gal bucket. Fill almost all the way with hard-boiling water. Stir, preferably with bayonet. Add one canteen cup of cold water. Rotate forcefully in a vertical twirl at arm's length (requires decent muscle and an undamaged shoulder joint). Grounds will precipitate to bottom of bucket through centripetal force. Serve with canteen cup.

You put your clothes and shoes in it.

And now, totally serious--if she's storing competition gowns, that's some specialized storage. Flat boxes, long and wide enough the gowns can lay flat, tall enough nothing gets squished, maybe some padded rolls for things that need to hold a shape. Museums keep textiles like that in big custom drawers, so the weight of the ones on top won't damage the ones on the bottom.

I don't have to encourage. She's already decided she is very pro-drug.

Doesn't mean she's going to stop lording over me the period before the drugs.

Only appropriate response there is a smile, patient waiting, then followed by a dramatic reading of Genesis 3:16 at some point during her delivery.

387 So many people in this country have just no idea about all those things that worked together to make life "nasty, brutish and short", but no doubt they will be relearning them the hard way, and fairly soon.
Unfortunately they are dragging us along with them.

Posted by: sock_rat_eez at December 12, 2014 09:16 AM (OCcU9)

Yeah, sock, most people live expecting this day to be much like yesterday, and tomorrow to be much like today, and think this is the natural order of things, because that's the way it has been for most of their lives, especially here in the US.

They have lost sight of the many decades of sacrifices, struggle, turmoil, gains, setbacks, and losses that got us to yesterday.

Heinlein's "Bad Luck" is always just around the corner, but they can't believe it is there.

Seriously, I don't have high hopes for him, but then again I'm one of NC's concealed permit holders that can't forget the way he stuck us in the back when he was in the NC statehouse. We had the bill we wanted, but he stalled it until the next session and a watered down version was passed instead. I think he's going to go up there and settle right in with the RINO faction. The best I can hope for is he will vote the right way on the important stuff, but I have no illusions that he is for any sort of limited government.

I responded with a quick quality check by sticking it under my armpit and giving it a wipe. he was not amused. Everyone else was, and no one left the offee line. And several used the condensed milk.

than for the Saudi's to pump the shit out of thier wells. So their

IMO I would guess they're dumping their oil on the market in order to make fracking unaffordable - which reliable estimates say occurs around $50 a barrel.

Once that happens, then it's just a simple matter of adjusting the price so that fracking stays unafforable.

But....technology makes it more affordable every day, so that ploy will only work for a little while.

I should add: Mrs. Nearsider had blood pressure spike Wednesday. They
pulled her into labor/ delivery triage and ran an hour or so worth of
tests and threw the baby on a monitor.

Didn't induce then, but will likely induce Monday.

So. My first born is coming, and I'm trapped here.

With no idea what's wrong.

I've informed the staff, in the most polite possible terms, that a
team of wild horses accompanied by a rhinoceros with a blow torch will
not keep me from the delivery, provided I'm not an infection risk.

They informed me my presence will likely be determined by my ability to tolerate pain. So. I'll be there.
=====================
See Bill Cosby's routine on the birth of his first child to understand that last line. Nothing wrong with what's happening, the baby is a little slow getting out, and Mrs. Nearsider's body is encouraging it a bit much, so the Ob-gyn is gonna smooth things along. I was 2 weeks past due according to Mom; these days the hospital is not so patient.

Merry Christmas to you on the forthcoming bundle of joy! My sister was a Christmas season baby too, born December 1. One of the classic family photos is little me on the couch next to the tree holding her in a stocking courtesy of the hospital in Ames, Iowa.

That Ben Affleck as anti-fracking crusader movie that was out a couple of years ago went belly up quick after someone tattled that the flick was heavily funded by Middle East donors. Thanks to the Obummer economy fracking is getting lots of play as domestic economy boosting, which is going to get some traction since the fracking states went Red last month. That and a general disgust at the Middle East right now is making a lot of people within spitting distance of Iran very nervous....

427 Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword....wait there's even more Now what if i told you there was a simple Wordpress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That's right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
