Oh My God: Obama Wants AUMF From Congress, But Won't Say What He Wants In It
President Obama is a coward of impossible dimensions.
He is attempting to fight a war without alerting the public to the fact that it is a war, because he is ideologically committed to claiming that war is always a mistake, and yet for political reasons he must be seen as pretending to fight IS. He knows he needs -- get this -- an actual resolution from Congress to fight this war. But, because of the political optics, he does not wish to be seen asking for one, nor engaging in the process of securing one. So the Administration refuses to tell the Senate what should be in an AUMF, or what shouldn't be there. He wants them to just guess, because he is such a clownish, cartoonishly cowardly malefactor that he can't be seen to have actually sent over a memo. This is the worst man -- not just the worst president, but the worst man -- I have ever seen in a leadership position.Senators to Kerry: Tell Us What You Want to Fight ISIS The administration criticizes Senate proposals to authorize force, but won't offer a plan of its own. BY ALEX BROWN Senators from both parties pressed Secretary of State John Kerry Tuesday on the White House's reticence to put forth a proposal for the fight against the Islamic State. And while Kerry defended the administration's refusal to outline the confines of the conflict, he also took issue with the boundaries imposed by congressional proposals. If you didn't want Congress micromanaging the war, the senators responded, you should have told us what you wanted in the first place. Kerry testified at a hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee--which he used to chair--telling members that an Authorization for Use of Military Force should include no restrictions against the use of ground troops and should not limit operations to Iraq and Syria, as the plan proposed by committee Chairman Robert Menendez does. Though the White House does not intend to violate either of those confines, the restrictions would "preemptively bind the hands of the commander in chief" if unforeseen circumstances arose, Kerry said. "Had the administration sent us an AUMF, maybe we would have been better versed as to what the administration seeks or does not seek," Menendez responded. Kerry and Sen. John McCain got into a tiff over historical precedent, with McCain arguing that previous AUMFs have always moved with the impetus of the executive branch, and his longtime Senate colleague disputing that characterization. "It's got to be led by the commander in chief," McCain said. "That's how the system works." Kerry said some previous such actions have in fact originated in Congress. ... Others were more forceful. After hearing Kerry's testimony on which congressional proposals the White House would support, Sen. Marco Rubio lamented that it had taken a hearing to garner that information. "You don't have anyone over there who could type that up real quick?" he asked.Thus it is that a president who supposedly favors a de-escalation of war-making is seeking a "blank check" from Congress to fight whoever he likes, whenever he likes, however he might like. Weakness in a national policy does not yield peace; weakness simply invites war unexpectedly. Similarly, weakness in a president -- weakness, corruption, deception, softness -- does not actually result in peace, as some might expect. Weakness must always hide itself -- weakness is too cowardly to go openly into the street -- and it hides itself behind a lying mask of belligerency. Strong nations are strong enough to dare to show an openness for peace, and strong men as well. Craven men like Obama bring only discord, strife, and more war.

Thank you for the reminder. I am ragestroking over the events of the last couple of days, and kind of yelling at the Almighty as to why this is in His plan. But it is, and He has it in hand, whether we can see it or not.
So I am baking Christmas cookies (yum, snickerdoodles!!) and deciding that the best course of action for me is to pray very hard that Dear Leader has a true come to Jesus moment. Maybe then, we will have some relief.
I will also ask that y'all praying types remember our diplomats overseas. It's going to be really rough over the next couple of weeks, and after Benghazi, I don't think the current powers that be will care about helping them. Pray especially for the Marine Security Guards. They have a tough job, with ridiculous constraints put on them. And they are young guys and gals, who have to take on extraordinary decision making. They don't get nearly the support and admiration that they deserve.

What I'm concerned about is who might be manipulating him. Whether ValJar or someone else, it's possible that someone is pulling puppet strings to reach a desired outcome. And everything else is being ignored. That would set up a situation in which Obama generally looks foolish and disinterested, masking the fact that a few key actions are in fact highly focused on a particular (and probably malevolent) outcome.

My uneducated scenario is like this: an attack won't come with an obvious or, rather, an immediately known signature. It's not going to come atop a missile from downtown Tehran. There will be a few days or a week before Israel identifies the exact point of origin with 99.99% accuracy.
In that pause, there will be a lot of international idiocy being spewed, "don't retaliate," etc.
The Saudis may have some nasty hardware but if Iran strikes a coup and the Saudis then strike Iran, it would make it appear as if the Saudis are retaliating on behalf of Israel.
Chances of that happening: 0.00% repeating into infinity.
That is not to say they will accept Iran as the islamic overlords, but any immediate action to interrupt Iran would have to be covert or come from the US.

One of the best examples comes near the very end. All the way on page 1602, in the next-to-last substantive provision of the entire bill, we have this beautiful passage:
SEC. 102. MODIFICATION OF TREATMENT OF CERTAIN HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS.
(a) IN GENERAL.—Paragraph (5) of section 833(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended—
(1) by striking ‘‘this section’’ and inserting ‘‘paragraphs (2) and (3) of subsection (a)’’, and (2) by inserting ‘‘and for activities that improve health care quality’’ after ‘‘clinical services’’.
(b) EFFECTIVE DATE.—The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after 11 December 31, 2009.
Clear as a bell, right? Well it’s exactly as clear as it was intended to be. This section is, simply put, a special favor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield allowing them to count “quality improvement” spending as part of the medical loss ratio calculation required of them under Obamacare. And it’s made retroactive for four years, saving them loads of money. (You can find some background here.)
Now maybe this is a substantive improvement over existing law, or maybe it isn’t. But it’s special relief from an Obamacare requirement that’s basically being given to one insurer, is stuffed into the very end of 1,600 pages of similarly clear and accessible language, and is written as a series of removals and insertions of words from another statute with no explanatory text of any kind.
This is why cronyism wins.

Daily Beast is a sham, but I did highly enjoy their piece scorning the "worst gay power couple" evar what imploded. Ah, but you see, I have a feeling that many of those in power in the ME and North Africa - the Saudi royals, the sultans and sharifs - are not so devoted to their holy piety as they are to their gobs of incalculable wealth here on earth. Their subjects might all be ready and willing to burn for Allah, but I'm pretty sure the "nobles" would rather spend more time indulging in the hedonistic pleasures here on Earth first. They don't want Israel to shoot first and ask questions never.

Actually, the proof wasn't all that novel. It's very close to the standard textbook proof.

But there weren't many professional mathematicians back then and this kind of "recreational mathematics" was pretty common. But there was a lot of wheel reinvention.
Garfield was brilliant, though. He would listen to speeches and transliterate them into Latin and Greek simultaneously -- each with different hands. He was also ambidextrous.
I only half-joke about law school being a reliable negative indicator of intelligence, but I wouldn't put Obama in the top third of IQs of presidents.

For years they were in control, until the Palis started acting up in Jordan. So then King Hussein started allowing them to be elected into office. Thus the camel nose under the tent, so to speak. Now, you have a percentage of members of Parliament which more closely mirrors the population distribution. Which means more crazies in parliament. The Jordanians aren't happy about this, but they don't really have a good choice.
