1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, December 02, 2014. On this day in 1984 a cloud of poison gas leaked from the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, killing an estimated 4,000 people (estimates vary). The company made a huge financial settlement and a number of the plant officials went to jail.

6 Common Core is doing more than imposing federal control of math and English in the US. It is collecting psychological and personal data on children to go into a permanent government database. This abortion of a program must be terminated and ALL these records eliminated. The federal government has no role in education under the Constitution. Be sure to read this article because it will surely piss you off. But make sure you have taken your heart meds before reading it.

8 Bown's stepfather is being "investigated". BFD. It will be a story when he is prosecuted. But this should also piss you off this morning in this BS article from AP.

Brown, 18, who was black and unarmed, was killed Aug. 9 by Darren Wilson, who is white. Wilson, who resigned from the Ferguson department last weekend, had told the grand jury his life was being threatened, but some witnesses said Brown was trying to surrender.

IOW AP refuses to change the BS meme that a black unarmed angel was killed by a white policeman and some people said he was trying to surrender. While that is technically accurate (partially) it is totally misleading to the point of being a lie. First off he was a thug high on drugs attacking the police officer. Second off that "trying to surrender" crap has already been proven a perjorous lie by both forensic evidence and multiple eyewitness accounts.

All of the rioting and mayhem, including murder, I lay directly at the feet of the news media in this country. People in the news media who write crap like this should be prosecuted for incitement to riot.

11 Some more Obama in your face crap. The Treasury IG says yes there are thousands of docs showing the IRS [illegally] shared taxpayer information with the WH, but those docs can not be revealed because of privacy concerns. I would be satisfied if they simply prosecuted Louis Lerner and whoever at the WH was getting these docs. Or in lieu of that, fire everybody at the IRS who is in a supervisory position and permanently blackball them from government employment forever.

There should be some provision in these SCOTUS rulings that say that the government can not come back and do essentially the same thing the ruling prohibited. 29 Late Breaking: The House is moving to approve a bill that will extend the so-called expired tax cuts ($45B) until the end of the year. This is not necessarily a "good thing" people. I linked to an article a few weeks ago that discussed these tax breaks and it is larded up with crony corruption for a few large corporations. This discussion of "individuals" is simply not true according to the previous article. What needs to happen is to reduce the overall tax rate on ALL corporations and businesses and END specific breaks tied to individual companies.

I'm glad you're mulling it over. It's our only peaceful way out. The minor problem is crafting the necessary amendments that will do the trick and getting them passed.

100 An Article V Convention might have meant something when we had a political class that respected the constitution and was law abiding but it is clear that any law the Dems/GOPe don't want to follow, will not be followed.

We have also seen crafty lawyers and judges pervert the clear meaning of laws to work their will.

So in this fanciful Article V convention we manage to pass a balanced budget amendment, does anyone really believe politicians would really adhere to it?

Not a snowballs chance in hell.

Every law has been perverted when it suits the powers that be.

Why would any law in an Article V Convention be different?

Well, when she gets back from taking her daughters to school this morning I have to tell her that tomorrow I have that early Dr's appointment and she will have to make other arrangements.

As for renting a car it's even worse than that. Her husband is in NC working an outage and she/they scheduled these repairs knowing that he would be gone with one of their vehicles and she would be left with none. AND mechanically the truck worked fine. These are fender bender repairs.

Bad decision

I did have a few caveats in my post, but the word "chops" IMHO about Sheriff Clark is accurate.

He's real. In any case, we're all getting way ahead of ourselves and projecting things on the man, but what he said and the way he said it should have been coming out of McConnell's and Boehner's mouths.

That's why I'm all hot and horny for someone like Clark. Grasping at any straws for anyone with even a scintilla of courage and leadership ability.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at December 03, 2014 07:32 AM (CMkNk)

108 And an Article V Convention should have already been called for a balanced budget amendment as earlier this year Michigan made 34 states calling for a balanced budget amendment.

Boehner is said to be "studying" it.

Again the clear meaning of the law is being perverted.

Boehner and congress have no control over whether to call for a convention it must be called but they won't.

So there goes your Article V convention.

Give Congress more power to impeach an unlawful President. Fix the courts by taking the appointments out of the feds and giving it to the States.. And make it absolutely clear that any power not specifically listed in the Constitution for the feds is forbidden. Write a clause to sunset all programs that are already there and not approved.

I would also give the State the power to impeach a President by a majority vote of the State legislators.

I don't see any of these having the gonadic circumference to do the job right. Cruz, in particular, was silent when Bitch McConnell was re-upped as party "leader" in the Senate, and seems to be "positioning" himself for the run. Which means caving to the GOPe.

Haley is a "maybe," but the other four just don't seem to have the goods.

Right now, I'm hoping some as-yet unnamed candidate will come to the fore. Someone who doesn't squish out or pledge only tepid support for basic principles.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't vote for one of them if they are picked. Just can't get enthusiastic about them.

OK, I had my 50% wrong (from memory)

50% of the "sequestration" was to be taken from the military. From Military.com

Sequestration is part of the Budget Control Act that mandates $1.2
trillion in cuts across federal agencies to include $500 million to the
military over the next decade. Congress wrote sequestration into
legislation to provide motivation for Congress to agree to a deficit
reduction plan to replace the federal spending cuts. When they failed to
reach such an agreement, sequestration was triggered on March 1.

But if you go read the actual US Code that was written most of Obama's Social Justice programs were exempted.

Yes, of course. The only problem is that doing this puts a lot of entrenched, partisan bureaucrats out of work/power - and they will not go easily or quietly. Lord knows how many Lois Lerners there are currently employed by us who have spent decades wielding power and pleasing their political friends (like the Clintons). Which is why reform is a joke. They'd just hunker down and wait for the next administration. They need to go - and whomever actually does this will be absolutely destroyed by the unions, the Dems and the MSM in the process. If we could accomplish Step 1 everything else could fall into place.

I think we overlook the enormous power of the permanent bureaucracy and focus too much on politicians sometimes. Politicians come and go but bureaucrats are forever.

And they are overwhelmingly liberal democrats. Liberal democrats are the party of big government and like minded bureaucrats are their allies.

Think about it. When we talk about cutting government what we are really talking about is cutting the bureaucracy. So why would these people ever support our cause?

Get rid of public sector unions, make getting rid of bureaucrats easy and you take away enormous power from the left.

It's just good politics to wield the power heavily in the first six months to one year for the things your base wants,

At that time, there was no GOP. It came later. But Socialism like tendencies (or Progressivism) is as old as the hills in American politics. Lincoln was more of a crony capitalist in those days, I believe, as was nearly everyone in those far more innocent times. Mostly he was trying to get government money to build railroads someplace, because that was how fortunes were being made. It had nothing to do with his political philosophy, I wouldn't think, unless you want to hold him to a very strict (almost impossible) standard.

Although let's all look at huffpo's claim here and hold them to it when Obama decides he's not bound by any stinkin holds on his authoritah.

"It was an acknowledgement on the president's part that Congress has little appetite to revisit the issue of gun control, especially in an election year. Instead, any changes to gun policy at this point will likely require executive action. Although Obama's presidential powers only grant him the authority to approve modest reforms, one of the measures signed by the president earlier this month would strengthen background checks for gun purchasers, with a particular focus on mental health."

Worse than that, it was saying that some lives (or at least some murders) were more valuable than others.

If I were murdered today and my body draped with a confederate flag and "f*ck whitey" painted all over it- that would still not be a "hate crime."

Yet if some black or hispanic thug tries to beat the life out of me and I defend myself with lethal force, I will be called a racist, and the National DOJ will "investigate" to see if I just committed a "hate crime."

It's yet more institutionalized racism. Of African or Meso-American decent? You're super-duper special. Of Asian or European decent? "F*ck you."

Vic- Your problem is simple - your vehicles [strike]are [/strike] appear to be simply too reliable. I am confident that if you dig around in them a little, you will find mysterious intermittent problems that 'randomly' prevent them from starting. Hint: I think it's a periodically loose coil wire on the car, and a fuel-pump fuse that falls out by itself on the
truck. Maybe it's just cold weather/ hot weather/ humidity that causes these problems cause they DO go away by themselves later in the day....if the vehicle sits in your driveway. It's a mystery why they won't start some mornings when someone comes to borrow them. Too bad you don't have the money to have a shop spend unknown hours tracking down those problems. Lucky you, being retired and all, can just wait till they decide to start.

Sincerely,

An experienced car-loaner.

395 394 Posted by: MTF at December 03, 2014 11:38 AM (LISuA)

Dear lord I've gone over this here several times.

The "trans-continental" railroads were hotbeds of graft, corruption, and kickbacks and probably the second major abuse of Eminent Domain after the canal system.

Lincoln was a fan of "the American System", the American System was the idea that the community chest should and would be used for "public works" and overt kickbacks.

Alexander Hamilton(like Lincoln on the whole a personal hero of mine) was enraged by British Mercantilism so long as he was on the paying side of the equation, once in a position to benefit from the system he was in favor of importing the mechanism to the United States.

Lincoln was a Whig to his core, and being a Whig meant he valued "public works", central banks, and the games the banks play on the back of the common man to "protect the economy."

Lincoln was a "3d way" guy in the sense he saw a HUGE role for the Government as "will of the people" in regulating and controlling where private business would and could go.

You can trace a straight line from his abuses of power to Obama's flouting of the law.

Lincoln started his administration decrying that he could do ANYTHING outside of congressional power to stop slavery(and understand I support wholeheartedly the revulsion at slavery the abolitionists engendered) and voila like magic just 4 short years later he could do so by edict as "commander in chief" without redress to jury....

America's dictatorial Presidents were "Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, and Obama."

Each of those cocksuckers decided "I am the state."

I happen to greatly admire three of the six, and hate deeply 3 of the six.

Oh horse****.

I'm not re-writing my goddamned 30,000 words explaining his graft and corruption as a lawyer for, and political ally of the railroads MTF.

The American System was a "thing" and it was part and parcel of the Whig platform for ~30 years openly and a subtle cornerstone of the Federalists until it slowly merged in the "National Republican Party" which together with the Anti-Masonic party morphed into the Whigs.

Abe Lincoln was the prototype of the Chicago Machine politician....

Chicago electioneering is part of what got him the nod to run in 1860.

The American system liked high tariffs leading to higher consumer prices, high public land prices "for more revenue", the hearty support of "the Bank of the United States" (which shoehorned state economies into a game of thrones style winner takes all patronism) and for Abe the kicker "internal improvements" that seldom worked as advertised were always less efficient than private ventures and were a graft machine par excellence....

The Canadians used parts of the American system(with all the baggage) in their National Policy Plan of the 1870s.

I am saying he has a lot more in common with Beijing Billy than he does with Marx or Engels but the fact is he was a huge proponent of concentration of power, and by mid war he saw himself as the arbiter of Federal power period.

You can argue he HAD to feel this way b/c "by golly the ACW" you can argue that he was somehow "uniquely qualified like a Lawyerly rather than Martial Cincinnatus" and only used his ill-gotten by Constitutional parameters powers for good but what is silly to argue is his love for genuine free markets or his reticence at the use of wide power.

Lincoln had no grief with the idea that the people should "have to pay more" for their goods because favored businessmen needed "protected" and the feds should hand out the community chest on graft ridden "Rube Goldberg Works."
