A Maine court has awarded the family of a transgender "girl" $75,000 in a settlement of "her" discrimination lawsuit against a school district where administrators made "her" use a staff, not student, bathroom.

I have to go to a meeting that will take me an hour and a half to get to and which will take all of the other participants 30 minutes or less to get to I will be using a car that doesn't work so well. It's a denominational meeting. I will hope that during our prayer time our supervisor will not pray that we have justice in Ferguson-meeting that the DOJ decides to bring Wilson up on criminal charges. I'm for justice-justice for the shop owners who were burned out by a group of anarchists.

Well, when she gets back from taking her daughters to school this morning I have to tell her that tomorrow I have that early Dr's appointment and she will have to make other arrangements.
As for renting a car it's even worse than that. Her husband is in NC working an outage and she/they scheduled these repairs knowing that he would be gone with one of their vehicles and she would be left with none. AND mechanically the truck worked fine. These are fender bender repairs.

Give Congress more power to impeach an unlawful President. Fix the courts by taking the appointments out of the feds and giving it to the States.. And make it absolutely clear that any power not specifically listed in the Constitution for the feds is forbidden. Write a clause to sunset all programs that are already there and not approved.
I would also give the State the power to impeach a President by a majority vote of the State legislators.

That's because some states have supposedly rescinded their calls for a convention for a balanced budget amendment.
There is no provision in the constitution for rescinding an amendment petition.
So once again the law is what the establishment says it is.

I like Haley, Brown and Perry for the same reasons I like Sarah Palin: good conservative instincts, but not blowing me away intellectually (not saying any of them are unintelligent, I just need to see more from them). The political results in their respective states are a huge plus, though.
I would vote for anyone on that list, I'm just expressing my preference for Carson provided he comes around on the 2A, which is of course core or no deal.

Yes, of course. The only problem is that doing this puts a lot of entrenched, partisan bureaucrats out of work/power - and they will not go easily or quietly. Lord knows how many Lois Lerners there are currently employed by us who have spent decades wielding power and pleasing their political friends (like the Clintons). Which is why reform is a joke. They'd just hunker down and wait for the next administration. They need to go - and whomever actually does this will be absolutely destroyed by the unions, the Dems and the MSM in the process. Who is willing to do that?

I think we overlook the enormous power of the permanent bureaucracy and focus too much on politicians sometimes. Politicians come and go but bureaucrats are forever.
And they are overwhelmingly liberal democrats. Liberal democrats are the party of big government and like minded bureaucrats are their allies.
Think about it. When we talk about cutting government what we are really talking about is cutting the bureaucracy. So why would these people ever support our cause?
Get rid of public sector unions, make getting rid of bureaucrats easy and you take away enormous power from the left.

At that time, there was no GOP. It came later. But Socialism like tendencies (or Progressivism) is as old as the hills in American politics. Lincoln was more of a crony capitalist in those days, I believe, as was nearly everyone in those far more innocent times. Mostly he was trying to get government money to build railroads someplace, because that was how fortunes were being made. It had nothing to do with his political philosophy, I wouldn't think, unless you want to hold him to a very strict (almost impossible) standard.

Vic- Your problem is simple - your vehicles [strike]are [/strike] appear to be simply too reliable. I am confident that if you dig around in them a little, you will find mysterious intermittent problems that 'randomly' prevent them from starting. Hint: I think it's a periodically loose coil wire on the car, and a fuel-pump fuse that falls out by itself on the
truck. Maybe it's just cold weather/ hot weather/ humidity that causes these problems cause they DO go away by themselves later in the day....if the vehicle sits in your driveway. It's a mystery why they won't start some mornings when someone comes to borrow them. Too bad you don't have the money to have a shop spend unknown hours tracking down those problems. Lucky you, being retired and all, can just wait till they decide to start.

The "trans-continental" railroads were hotbeds of graft, corruption, and kickbacks and probably the second major abuse of Eminent Domain after the canal system.
Lincoln was a fan of "the American System", the American System was the idea that the community chest should and would be used for "public works" and overt kickbacks.
Alexander Hamilton(like Lincoln on the whole a personal hero of mine) was enraged by British Mercantilism so long as he was on the paying side of the equation, once in a position to benefit from the system he was in favor of importing the mechanism to the United States.
Lincoln was a Whig to his core, and being a Whig meant he valued "public works", central banks, and the games the banks play on the back of the common man to "protect the economy."
Lincoln was a "3d way" guy in the sense he saw a HUGE role for the Government as "will of the people" in regulating and controlling where private business would and could go.
You can trace a straight line from his abuses of power to Obama's flouting of the law.
Lincoln started his administration decrying that he could do ANYTHING outside of congressional power to stop slavery(and understand I support wholeheartedly the revulsion at slavery the abolitionists engendered) and voila like magic just 4 short years later he could do so by edict as "commander in chief" without redress to jury....
America's dictatorial Presidents were "Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, and Obama."
Each of those cocksuckers decided "I am the state."
I happen to greatly admire three of the six, and hate deeply 3 of the six.

The Canadians used parts of the American system(with all the baggage) in their National Policy Plan of the 1870s.
I am saying he has a lot more in common with Beijing Billy than he does with Marx or Engels but the fact is he was a huge proponent of concentration of power, and by mid war he saw himself as the arbiter of Federal power period.
You can argue he HAD to feel this way b/c "by golly the ACW" you can argue that he was somehow "uniquely qualified like a Lawyerly rather than Martial Cincinnatus" and only used his ill-gotten by Constitutional parameters powers for good but what is silly to argue is his love for genuine free markets or his reticence at the use of wide power.
Lincoln had no grief with the idea that the people should "have to pay more" for their goods because favored businessmen needed "protected" and the feds should hand out the community chest on graft ridden "Rube Goldberg Works."
