Jeb Bush: So When I Run For President, I Promise That I Will Not Pander to the Conservative Wing of the Party

No shit, really?

In related news, Jon Huntsman vowed that if he runs for president again, he'll make himself as unappealing to the party as possible.

Former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida was blunt Monday night: If he runs for president in 2016, he will not pander to his party’s conservative base in the primaries.

Mr. Bush said at The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council in Washington that Republican candidates must be willing to "lose the primary to win the general, without violating your principles."

"It's not an easy task, to be honest with you," he added.

I wouldn't worry too much about Jeb Bush. This is a vanity run. This is going nowhere. He will be laughed out of the race by South Carolina.

And yes, Huntsman's 2012 run based on "my party hates science and I will be the one to provide sound bites for democrats as proof of that fact" did tend to piss off the base...but at least he wasn't a member of the Lutheran faith that requires Michelle Bachman to be loyal to her husband. what weirdos.

The Dallas paper has been not-so-subtly trying to squash Cruz and his slow but sure ascension. They're embedding stories about how he's so radical that "Jew money" (barely paraphrased there) and other large financiers won't back him (which is a perversion of its own coverage) and that he's still too conservative for sensible people.

Yeah, the MFM (which is to say the Dems) are afraid of Cruz.

124 I wonder when the GOPe is going to start getting serious about running for office, especially the preezyship. They seem to revel in losing and with their weak pandering to everyone except Americans, they'll lose again then blame it on us.

Teh Jebster did OK down here as guv. Crist basically weakly carried on and gave us Scott (twice now). However, in the ensuing years, the country's lost a lot of ground: we're much poorer and far less free than we were even one decade ago.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems there's a big win waiting for someone with the balls to stand up to the Leftards who've driven us into the ditch. As Rush is fond of saying, "Conservatism wins every time it's tried," but the GOPe mysteriously refuses to even try that (thus ignoring the Reagan landslide wins), preferring instead to stick to their proven losing strategy of running a squish.

He has spanked public unions, putting them in their place and balanced the state budget and now Wisconsin is running a budget surplus. I know this doesn't compare with your Hispanic relatives, but I'm thinking there are a whole lot of disgruntled former Democrats in the midwest looking for someone new and not a Democrat to vote for.

But it's inaccurate.
Most of this is outside the voters' control b/c it gets decided by where the money and resources (in the form of consultants and campaign teams) go and that's largely decided before the primaries. It's true the voters have a say on who survives the primary, but who ENTERS the primary has very little to do with us, especially with the manipulation of polling data and the backing of particular media types.
Not a criticism. Just a correction.

Damn straight.

I haven't listened to "A Time For Choosing" in two or three days (I've been slacking off). Think I'll go spool that up on the MP3 player...

309 When she announces, will she be wearing a short tight skirt with a slightly see-thru blouse with the top two buttons unbuttoned?

Go on.

310 Say what you will about Rand but he can tap into some of that tech company money. His dad didn't have problems raising money.

Just save us all from Chris Christie.

311 Just got a tip ya'll were talking about me. So I just thought I would pop in and say hi and to let you know I hate you all. Have a great night.

313 Imagine a world where Reagan had never put Bush Sr. on the ticket.

No more Bush's. Ever again.

Pretty simple really.

If Jeb gets the nomination, that's it. No more voting. No more being a good citizen. No more. I'm getting close that even now.

I beat you to being a poor "citizen." I regularly throw away my jury summons. Nobody is going to allow me on a jury anyway, and I don't care to have my time wasted by the government. I drive pretty much whatever speed limit I want because, trust me, even DRUNK I'm a better driver than the third worlders who have swarmed my state. I pay every person who does work at my house under the table, because I'm damned if I'm going to fill out the 1099's the gov demands if I pay $600 to any one person.
And that's just my skofflaw from this morning!

It's simple: show up @ the jury screening in a shirt & tie, wearing a NRA hat & carrying a Bible.

In & out in less than ten minutes

320 You're assuming other people will be allowed on the ballot in the primaries. Or that they won't run out of money by South Carolina.

And those specifically are the "failures" of the 2012 election the GOP has been scurrying to correct -- that too many people were on the ballot and opposing The Eventual Nominee for far too long into the election cycle.

330 "lose the primary to win the general, without violating your principles."

Yes, because the Bush clan has done more to save the Democrats from themselves than any other clan. They must be part of a conspiracy.

I can imagine it now - 'Dont vote for Ted Cruz, Hillary will beat him, we have to nominate Jeb!'

The bad news of Jeb Bush as candidate is that Hillary will beat him.
The good news of Jeb Bush as candidate is that Hillary will beat him.
