Business Roundtable members are due to meet Obama in a closed-door session on Tuesday, where they may air their concerns.
It is not clear how many members of the group, whose companies sponsor health insurance for 40 million people, are considering any action. It is also not clear if the White House can stop the EEOC from challenging wellness programs. A threat of a corporate backlash comes at a time when Obama faces criticism even from his Democrats' ranks that he had devoted too much political capital to healthcare reform. The c-word is used differently in Britain, IIRC - it doesn't carry the same shock value there that it does here.

I can't believe the amount of restraint this guy is showing, it's purely because he knows he's being taped. Most of my interactions with police are this dynamic but reversed, the cop screaming at some minor infraction. Posted by: Altec at November 29, 2014 04:46 PM (13G+x) 18

American Federation of Teachers, one of the largest teachers unions in the United States, passed a resolution last week to ban Coca-Cola from its facilities and events.
The teachers union stated its decision was based on human rights violations, which have been detailed in three books published several years ago. The questions remain: why now and why is this important to a teachers union? Because AFT is a labor organization, it will stand in solidarity with other labor organizations that have taken a stance against Coca-Cola, AFT spokesman Michael Heenan told Watchdog.org. Coca-Cola responded to AFT's claims in an email to Watchdog.org, saying they were based on "outdated and erroneous allegations that we have repeatedly addressed." ... of course, this means no more Fresca Posted by: Lester Maddox at November 29, 2014 04:50 PM (e8kgV) Posted by: eman at November 29, 2014 04:51 PM (MQEz6) 28

Everybody's looking for their "N-word" these days that they can get all righteous about. Cunt goes back to Shakespeare's time at least. Cunt's even kinda cute sounding compared to euphemisms like "slash" "slit" "gash" etc. But, hey, by all means get upset about a word. Still, the word's much more ubiquitous in Britain than here. About the same as saying you're a "dick". Oh no! A genital euphemism with a hard sound to it! I shall now be all offended and such!!! I'm a victim. Give me money! Different curse words carry different levels of intensity, even if they are referring to the same thing.
There's a million words for penis. If a call some dude a tool, a dick, or a prick, they all have different meanings yet all mean the same thing. Just as there's a difference between calling somebody a homo and fag. The literal meaning of the curse word -- usually something genital or excrement related -- is not the actual meaning. The actual meaning is - I dislike you and look down on you. How intense that dislike is and how lowly I think you are will determine the intensity of the curse word employed. In America the c-word is generally the worse thing you can call a woman. In Britain is much more widely used, and therefore packs less punch. The more widely used a curse word is, the less powerful. Fuck used to be a lot more powerful in America, Massive overuse has severely weakened it's power. The literal meanings of curse-words are never their real meanings. Which is why foreign curse-words often sound silly and not especially insulting when you learn their literal meaning. Posted by: Costanza Defense at November 29, 2014 05:50 PM (zwdxl) 132

It's not that so much that as how ridiculous it is that "cunt" has suddenly become the outragey-how-dare-you-say-it n-word for fymynysts. Cunt is no more or less classy than many other euphemisms. For instance, do you find the euphemism "gash" the epitome of class? Or perhaps, "slit" is the proper word for polite society. Its pretty funny to be all blue-nosed about cunt exclusively, which is a rather abstract word, rather than say "gash" which brings a lot of baggage with it. No. In the context of this discussion, gender differences are exactly the point. Or at least that was the subject of my comment. As you said, my point was that the standards should be different for the individuals involved. However, if the individuals involved insist on everything being treated exactly the same for them and denying that there are any differences to be considered, then they shouldn't demand special treatment. Aliens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDqTwSO1DDc "Bitch" has now been used so often it just doesn't pack much punch. It's like gore in movies and TV. A throwaway scene in the Walking Dead would have been shocking R-rated in a movies 20-30 years ago. We're burning through our curse-words faster than we are inventing new ones.
The power of a curse-word increases with how forbidden it is and how rarely it's used. The campaign to ban words like "gay" or "fag" is, ironically, increasing the power of those words. "gay" as an insult had lost almost all power as an insult before the Left decided to ban it. Calling something gay had the intensity of calling something lame. Now that All Right Thinking People say you should never ever ever say it -- well now it can have some real insult power again. It will take time to build it's power back up. Back when my husband did farmwork, he once said to a Mexican worker "Chinga tu madre". The guy got very serious and said "Oh no, I would never f**k my mother". I suspect that it become just another swear word these days.

the female C word is a pretty strong vulgarity. That having been said, plenty of feminists seem more offended by words like "lady" and "girl".
So. Sugartits still ok? Posted by: rickb223 at November 29, 2014 06:27 PM (Gzhc8) Posted by: Nip Sip at November 29, 2014 06:27 PM (0FSuD) 202

-Posted by: Nip Sip at November 29, 2014 06:30 PM (0FSuD) I'm too polite for that. Even when I was a duochebag with little common-sense, I said: "I'm sorry for being polite. That'll never happen again." Posted by: ColdBeer1 (Slap) at November 29, 2014 06:33 PM (16bOT) 211
It is a British thing to use the "c" word (watch Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast), it is the equivalent of how Americans use "mother fucker."

Though by allowing someone to abuse and threaten a law enforcement officer without consequences , it definitely just kicks the can down the road for this old thug to do it or something worse in the future.

The whole "wanna split an abortion?" -thing was socially odd.
Posted by: ColdBeer1 (Slap) at November 29, 2014 06:17 PM (16bOT) ***************** IIRC, the abortion scene got the movie an X rating initially, then it was recut to make it an R. Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at November 29, 2014 06:50 PM (NqYC9) 221

192 That old man was clearly a tough old fighter who knew he was *intimidating a fat and weak, non-fighter* - not much of a contest. Pretty cowardly act and deserving a good shot of pepper spray - at the least. Scaring the hell out of a poor guy for five minutes who was just doing his job and threatening him repeatedly is not legal or moral. Hope he got some jail time out of it all and faced some guys just like he - but younger!
Posted by: SCIPIO AFRICANUS at November 29, 2014 06:23 PM (i5wUE) ***** Actually, I don't think he was intimidated at all. When the old guy told him he was afraid to look him in the eye without those sunglasses on, the meter maid guy whipped those glasses off lickety split. Second, he's a meter maid, not a cop. He has no arrest power. He just wasn't going to let the guy bait him into a fight that could get him in trouble. But if that old guy laid a hand on him, I guarantee you that the meter maid guy would have been game. I don't know if he would win. But he wasn't afraid. 12 pretty much you can just randomly stick this scene into any British gangster movie and you wouldn't be the wiser.

Red-headed Chicken BoBo is what a friend uses. It's made up, can mean most anything and you can say it in front of a six year old. Try replacing his use of C*nt with Red-headed Chicken BoBo. Makes thye whole thing funny
