Actually my family leans toward non-confrontational. Our major holiday blow up was one Christmas when my brother in law said in a quiet, matter of fact voice to my overbearing sister, "You need to mind your own business." He had been putting food on my dad's plate. Dad was in his nineties and had a problem with waiting. She shut her mouth and everyone went ahead and ate as usual. That's our version of a brawl. meanwhile I know many libs with kids who think they care. Her mother proceeds to tell her that if she had known that we were doing seperate Thanksgivings that she would have gone out of town to have Thanksgiving with friends of theirs.

I'm not so sure it's fake. I've certainly seen people act like complete dicks at family gatherings.
The worst was when I went with a friend to her family's place in Hershey, PA for Thanksgiving. Big Irish family and everybody was three sheets to the wind by the time dinner was served. It was like being trapped in a Eugene O'Neill play - they were bringing up 30 year old grudges. I was sitting next to an aunt who started crying because her mother gave her sister a doll for her 10th birthday and all she got on her birthday was a 10 cent holy card (for you Prods and Jews, holy cards are like Catholic baseball cards. They have pictures of Jesus and Mary and saints on one side and prayers on the other. They used to be more common than they are now.) She was about 55 at that time and crying about holy cards. At that point, I considered leaving and, since we had driven up to Hershey in my friend's car, walking back to DC. Instead, I poured myself another drink and just sat back and watched the carnage. All hardcore Dems. And probably Eagles fans too. Posted by: Donna &&&&&& V. (brandishing ampersands) at November 28, 2014 06:56 PM (+XMAD) 107

Disregarding truth to appease an angry mob? how the hell is that better than what happened? Whatever happened to the liberal view that it's better for a guilty man to go free, rather than have an innocent man receive the death penalty?

I went into work today to find someone had stolen the TV from the doctor's lounge, along with a bunch of lab coats and a box of inspirational books and materials that had been collected to give to women who had sick babies in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Since it's a secured area, it had to be an inside job - besides administration and the doctors, only the housekeeping staff and food services have the codes to get in. A lib coworker saw fit to remind me of her bleeding heart status when I told her that a few small stuffed animals had been in that box and among the things stolen. I said, "Jeez, stealing stuffed animals and then giving them to your kid..." She sniffed and said, "Well, maybe the thief took them because that was the only way he or she could give that kid any Christmas gifts..." Really? This is probably an employee who is also in the process of stealing a damn TV. I'm supposed to take pity on this scum because supposedly they can't afford to buy their kid a couple of stuffed animals that probably cost about $5 apiece at Walmart? What about the women with the sick babies those books and stuffed animals who were the ones who were supposed to get that stuff? Rather than give the kid a stuffed animal, maybe it would be better if the parent taught the kid to, you know, save up money if you want a TV or a toy, rather than waiting until a holiday and moving in to steal it? I'm really pretty sick of libs making excuses or displaying phony compassion for thieves and scum like Brown. I wanted to say, if the thief stole your purse then he'd be able to get the kid some really nice gifts for Christmas. Would that be OK with you? Posted by: Donna &&&&&& V. Well, I am thankful I didn't freeze to death while clearing the driveway with the snowblower, but it was a near thing. About 0F, with a stiff breeze that swirled around the buildings, so I never knew when I was about to get a facefull of snow from the discharge chute. Wore my Helly Hansen insulated covvies and mitts, and a toque, and insulated boots. My feet stayed warm and dry, so there's that. My face, not so much. But I am inside the warm house now, with a cold beer to wash down my sorrows, so I can be thankful for that.

I buy socks and underwear at Target. Everything else is L.L. Bean.
Posted by: rickl at November 28, 2014 08:08 PM (sdi6R) My dad was like that. Easiest person in the world to shop for - a few pairs of socks and some flannel shirts and you were set. And he was genuinely happy to get them. When I was a kid, I couldn't believe people actually wanted socks for Christmas. I couldn't think of anything more boring. Now that I have to buy my own socks, I appreciate when people give them to me. The only thing more boring than getting socks as a gift is buying them for yourself. Posted by: Donna &&&&&& V. Donna &&&&V - many years ago the WaPo had an investigative article in the book section about why local bookstores were keeping some of the AfAm-interest books behind the counter and not on the store shelves. People were crying "Raaaacist!" and nobody at the bookstores wanted to talk about it. Finally one bookstore employee was willing to speak anonymously and told the reporter that the heavily-shoplifted books were kept behind the counter and had to be asked for. The reporter when one step further and spoke to a local AfAm writer whose books were in high demand by shoplifters. Her initial response, "Well, if this is getting my books in the hands of people who otherwise couldn't afford them . . ." The reporter asked her what her publisher would think about that and she quickly backtracked. I just could not believe the liberal idiocy on display.

125 / 160 -- Mold -- I don't think that's what he was referring to (IMO).
With only his words for context, I'd say that Mr. West has been (finally) deflated by the ugly reality of Fergudishu. All the hype and spin in the world can't wipe those images away... for West, his treasure trove of HopeundChangium (an isotope of Unobtainium) was revealed to be nothing more than a pile of gilded sawdust held together by third-rate Chinese counterfeit glue. Post-Racial indeed, Mr. West... "Ferguson signifies the end of the age of Obama. It's a very sad end. We began with tremendous hope and we end with great despair." His 'despair' is the realization that the White Guilt EBT card is in danger of running dry. Posted by: CPT. Charles at November 28, 2014 08:20 PM (/mTq0) 233

Years ago around this time I asked a friend how her Thanksgiving went and she told me "it was typical for our family." Her father (retired Army, business owner) had his sister and 4 adult children over. They were all liberal art school grads without a job. Things went fine until the end when her aunt mentioned there was a bottle of champagne left. The friends father told her, "take it with you. This way you have something to celebrate with if one your kids ever finds a job." They left in silence. Posted by: Buckeye Abroad at November 28, 2014 08:29 PM (8KWwB) 260

Actually went to Lowes (10 percent off retired military) to get the toilet jigglehandle retainer nut. Had to buy complete assembly. Got 8 solar powered garden lights and Mrs. E sent me back later for 8 more. Had to go back anyway to get a key re-cut. Like a ninny, I assumed the girlperson cutting the keys actually knew how to cut keys. The second one worked. So I am thankful for that. And the Thanksgiving part 2 platter I had at noon. And the 1/4 of a pecan pie I ate. Pies should only have 4 slices in my opinion. Less room for error.

Family Thanksgiving story: I usually drive to Baja, but this year I spent Thanksgiving with my family. Mistake. My brother, two time Obama voter and flaming CA liberal. started spouting about how our police forces are racist, and he didn't like it when I called MB a thug. Then he started spouting about global warming, and buying an electric car to save the planet. I finally snapped and told him he's not saving anything plugging an electric car into a wall socket. He went full retard and left. Evening over. I guess you could say I "black sheeped" this one. Posted by: wth at November 28, 2014 09:09 PM (wAQA5) 339

I spent hours and hours preparing the Best Thanksgiving Dinner Ever. And everyone (except tummy sick male friend from ATL) enjoyed it. I'm so freaking exhausted I Cannot Move. Played amazing rock and roll, and our son joined in with his guitar. Great evening. Posted by: Jane D'oh at November 28, 2014 09:10 PM (FsuaD) 342

That I am allowed to participate; hang around with a bunch who is smart than me, more successful than me, more talented than me, who I can, on rare occasion (in my own mind) skewer, and then discover there are others 'out there' who think like I do, and I am not alone in the universe, I am not crazy (much, by some measure). and on rare occasion, inject a word or meme into the general conversation.

Gable served, for a while, as a gunner in the 8th. I'll cut him some slack: http://tinyurl.com/na6bzs6
"Gable spent most of 1943 in England at RAF Polebrook with the 351st Bomb Group. Gable flew five combat missions, including one to Germany, as an observer-gunner in B-17 Flying Fortresses between May 4 and September 23, 1943, earning the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts. During one of the missions, Gable's aircraft was damaged by flak and attacked by fighters, which knocked out one of the engines and shot up the stabilizer. In the raid on Germany, one crewman was killed and two others were wounded, and flak went through Gable's boot and narrowly missed his head." I love all you discoursers, the majority of whom I'd tell to get off my lawn in meat space.
