A CLIMATE CHANGE AGREEMENT is hailed as a major milestone by President Obama, despite Beijing only promising that Chinese emissions will peak by 2030, while the US would slash emissions by at least 26 percent over the next 11 years. unbelievable, really, from the WSJ
Racial Gerrymandering Switcheroo The Supreme Court is asked to decide when districts drawn to protect black officeholders have too many black voters. The Supreme Court on Wednesday will take up a pair of cases about racial gerrymandering. The plaintiffs in Alabama Democratic Conference v. Alabama and Alabama Legislative Black Caucus v. Alabama are protesting the way the state legislature redrew its state Senate and House districts in 2012. They contend that the majority-minority districts---which were created to comply with various provisions of the Voting Rights Act---are actually overly "safe" for black officeholders. ... More plainly, too many black voters have been packed into a handful of districts, ensuring landslide election victories for black Democratic candidates but diluting the political influence of black voters elsewhere. Bleached of their reliable Democratic voters, the surrounding districts become safe for Republicans. ... Alabama contends that the districts were redrawn precisely to comply with Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. That provision required that new districts must not "retrogress," limiting the ability of African-Americans in the state to elect candidates of their choice. Under the Voting Rights Act, Alabama was required to get federal approval, or "preclearance," before implementing the redistricting. The Obama administration's Justice Department blessed the plan. (The Supreme Court essentially ended Section 5's preclearance requirement in June 2013 in Shelby County v. Holder.) ... Now, ironically, Democrats and minorities want to curb the practice they once embraced. Instead of drawing overpacked minority districts like the ones in question in Alabama, they want to carefully calibrate the right racial percentages so that African-American incumbents will win with modest margins in existing majority-minority districts. Shifting superfluous blacks to surrounding districts means they can knock off a Republican or two. It's worth a full read. http://online.wsj.com/articles/edward-blum-racial-gerrymandering-switcheroo-1415749920 the "sordid business of divvying us up by race." says John Roberts. indeed Posted by: artisanal 'ette at November 12, 2014 07:02 AM (IXrOn) 83

Public Records - Now Online Instant Checkmate aggregates hundreds of millions of publicly available criminal, traffic, and arrest records and posts them online so they can easily be searched by anyone. Members of the site can literally begin searching within seconds, and are able to check as many records as they like (think: friends, family, neighbors, etc. etc.). ... One of the most interesting aspects of Instant Checkmate is that it shows not only criminal records, but also more general background information like marriage records, divorce records, various types of licenses (medical, firearm, aviation, etc.), previous addresses, phone numbers, birthdates, estimated income levels and even satellite imagery of known addresses--it's really pretty scary just how much information is in these reports. In addition to giving information on the specific person you search for, the report also includes a scrolling list of "local sex offenders" for whatever region you've searched---along with a map plotting out the locations of those offenders. I started perusing the ones that showed up in my report, and I was absolutely blown away when I stumbled upon my junior high school wrestling coach's mug shot. h/t newsmax.com New Website Allows Anyone With a Computer to Review Arrest Records SPECIAL: New website aggregates hundreds of millions of arrest Posted by: artisanal 'ette at November 12, 2014 07:36 AM (IXrOn) 156

Great. Now Obama has a treaty that say he is forced to issues executive order to slash climate destroying, life ending carbon emissions. obviously China has no intention of reducing it's carbon emissions or will use phony, unverifiable numbers to meet their target. One great method would be using carbon offsets. Say, sign a treat with some gullible Westrn nation and count the carbon reduction from their ruined economy to help meet their goal.

If you think Vatican II is canon law, you need to start getting your church history hints from somebody other than Father Todd at the parish there.
We just had the famed Mr Nice Guy teaching-priest anointed to the Theologian's Hall of Fame. He's made a career out of all the stuff in "The Spirit of Vatican II," to include every trendy trolling-for-parishioners glib ploy you can feverdream. I had a couple of courses from him decades ago. He'd start every seminar, in those days, with a heartfelt intro to "The Christian/Marxist Dialogue." And move on from that. It was all deChardin and "Ground of Being" back then. Spend time with conservative Catholics and you never hear the end of it. Not being RC, the only personal issue I have with it is that it seriously interrupted my Latin education, as the bishops got marching orders to pull the plug on Latin everywhere, even in public schools. All it took was one loyal Catholic on the school board. It was surprising how many prospective doctors and lawyers were grinding Latin because their mothers secretly prayed for a vocation. I'm rolling, OK. But I know of whence, having been there. Posted by: Stringer Davis at November 12, 2014 07:57 AM (xq1UY) 213

Beware, folks. Proposed Water Rule Could Put 'Property Rights of Every American Entirely at the Mercy' of EPA It seems incredible, but a single missing word could turn a water law into a government land grab so horrendous even a U.S. Supreme Court justice warned it would "put the property rights of every American entirely at the mercy of Environmental Protection Agency employees." The missing word is "navigable." The Obama administration is proposing a rule titled "Definition of 'Waters of the United States' Under the Clean Water Act," which would strike "navigable" from American water law and redefine any piece of land that is wet at least part of the year, no matter how remote or isolated it may be from truly navigable waters, as "waters of the United States," or WOTUS. dailysignal.com This kind of crap is happening all over the place, and we are all unaware of it. The EPA already has seriously affected lakeside property owners in Northern MN. My in-laws bought lake property years ago with the intent of building a summer home later on. When they went to pull permits they found that they could not build any structure on the lakeside property because of a wetlands act and new setback rules. They effectively had their property taken from them. After spending 10's of thousands of dollars and immeasurable time fighting the government they eventually gave up both their dream and their land. A settlement was eventually reached, but they were out 10's of thousands of dollars

The missing word is "navigable." The Obama
administration is proposing a rule titled "Definition of 'Waters of the United States' Under the Clean Water Act," which would strike "navigable" from American water law and redefine any piece of land that is wet at least part of the year, no matter how remote or isolated it may be from truly navigable waters, as "waters of the United States," or WOTUS. Bypasses tar and feathers and goes straight to guillotine. Posted by: rickb223 at November 12, 2014 08:25 AM (4OQ6W) 293

In Rapanos v. Hello Horde.
Had my neighborhood HOA meeting last night. My wife called it a "waste of time." They're stupid, but at least they're harmless. Tried to get them to do something about the deer problem (we have 10 acres of common ground, that current houses somewhere between 11 and 15 deer, which is way above carrying capacity and going to become a problem on the streets very soon.) Got back a bunch of "eh, nothing we can do." (Never mind that urban hunting is legal here, and getting Dept of Conservation to set us up with a hunter would be no big thing, just need subdivision approval.) One guy got so frustrated with the thing he called for a dissolving of the HOA (woot!) but the old farts would have none of it. (We would have to deal with that 10 acres somehow.) Damn fucktards are sitting on $22,000 and run a $2000/year surplus too that they apparently just insist on letting sit there (rather than cutting assessments for a few years.) Truth is the HOA mostly continues functioning because the 85 year old in charge lives to hate fences in the front yard and the younger lady on it wants to prevent the common ground behind her house from being turned over to the city (which is likely how we'd dissolve the HOA.) File under: one big waste of time. There are 3 common ground areas, one used to be a pool that got filled in in the 90s. Someone suggested we turn that area, the biggest, over to the city on condition they turn it into a park. This city loves parks. Obsessed with them. The old farts all looked around and said "why would we do that? It's perfectly fine as a honey suckle infested wasteland." The real win was when it was brought up that the city wants to install sidewalks and people balked because (and this is an actual quote, not an embellishment like the one above) "No, because then people will walk dogs in front of my house." #ffs. If the Supremes take away the subsidies for non state exchanges, obamacare repeals itself. The trick will be getting those who have been forced off their old insurance back somewhere good, doing tort reform to keep costs down, and opening up sales across state lines.
I'm optimistic, especially after Gruber's smarmy confession. Posted by: LASue at November 12, 2014 08:49 AM (a/9Wy) 352

297 Washington Nearsider etc Hi there, it was all about nothing controversial or political, just a little chat about an Aussie movie... We were talking about Washington DC at work today - as I'll be going to Singapore soon for a couple of days holiday, someone mentioned the humidity there Well I've been to Singapore and Vietnam - and the humidity in those places is nothing compared to the dreadfulhumidity we experienced in Washington DC! The Mao jacket Obamao sported makes me fear we're really in for it now that we've shown we don't fear and love Our Dear Leader as formerly.
The jacket is megaparsecs beyond a poor fashion choice. What was Mao infamous for? 1. Killing millions and millions of his fellow Chinese, probably the most successful mass-murderer ever. 2. Having sex with legions of prepubescent girls. Obamao wants us to know he wants to emulate Mao. Posted by: fBW52 at November 12, 2014 08:50 AM (fBW52) 356
347 You know what China did today? They processed, baked, and shipped my order of silicon bracelets emblazoned with: "I am Darren Wilson" in less than 24hr.
Wait. You're Darren Wilson? Look out, I hear the Black Panthers or somesuch have a price on your head. Posted by: blaster at November 12, 2014 08:49 AM (Rx8ML) Dammit, I'll have to hide under my bed. The EPA can send their goons to enforce their water law but a homeowner can just take them to court and get it annulled. However, it takes a seperate court case to make them pay for it.

There are 3 common ground areas, one used to be a pool that got filled in in the 90s. Someone suggested we turn that area, the biggest, over to the city on condition they turn it into a park.
This city loves parks. Obsessed with them. The old farts all looked around and said "why would we do that? It's perfectly fine as a honey suckle infested wasteland." Go buy a metric fuck-ton of rats from a pet shop. Release. Mic drop. Posted by: rickb223 at November 12, 2014 08:53 AM (4OQ6W) 362

Could never understand why various Conservancies raise all kinds of funds to obtain wild country, and then turn it over to The State.
