Michael Wright's Escape from the 81st Floor of the World Trade Center on 9/11 The List of Common Misconceptions Here are just a couple:
"Sorry Mr. President, ISIS Is 100 Percent Islamic" So just to review how the left has responded to a 100 years of inconvenient history, National Socialism wasn't "real" socialism, except that it certainly was - it was just socialism that the rest of of the left didn't like. The Soviet Union wasn't "real" communism or socialism, except that as Tom Wolfe once impolitely reminded "liberals" in the mid-1970s, "On the contrary - it was socialism done by experts!" And now ISIS isn't Islamic. Gotcha. WRM on Obama's Big Speech: 'A President Surrenders' CBC Warns Canadians of "US Law Enforcement Money Extortion Program" Authorities claim it's legal, but some prosecutors and judges have called it what it is: abuse. Huh: Palin Family Allegedly Involved In A Brawl Okay I thought this was a joke at first but it seems to be real. On one hand I get that the Palin are public targets but from initial details this appears to just be snowbillies doing their thing. Note to self: Do not mess with snowbillies. According to local blogger Amanda Coyne, witnesses at the scene said Palin's eldest son, Track, showed up to the party in a stretch Hummer. He then confronted a man who had previously dated one of his sisters, according to Coyne and another blog called Immoral Minority. According to police alcohol was a factor. Yet Another Crime of White People: Making Minorities Fat Most Powerful Russian Revolver Ever? According to the sign it's a .50 caliber so most likely it fires the ASh-12.7 (12.7x55mm) cartridge used by Russian security forces. Great Moments in Disrobement for Comedic Effect A knowledgeable Moron has probably seen many of these and can recall the scenes just from the title. And sometimes the titles alone are entertaining such as SCTV's "Dr. Tongue's 3D House of Stewardesses". Extinct Snail 'Killed' by Climate Change Returns From the Dead Well I for one am now concerned about these zombie snails. Since 2007, the Aldabra Banded Snail (Rhachistia aldabrae) has been the chief poster mollusc of climate alarmists across the globe. That's because - according to a peer-reviewed paper published by an "expert" in the field Justin Gerlach - it was the first extinction directly attributable to climate change. Yahoo group. As I age, lots of stupid stuff I used to believe falls away.
I used to semi-believe that it really didn't matter who you voted for. 9/11 knocked that off; only the stupidest person would think that Al Gore would have responded the same way George W. Bush did. Now Obama's fecklessness has shown the folly of Ron Paul-style extreme isolationism as well. Wish I could learn this stuff without so many negative examples. About 100 different accounts, with wildly differing reports (Todd had a bloody nose, Todd had a cut lip, Bristol punched a bunch of guys) and most of them appear to be from the people on the receiving end of whatever happened. Sore losers. Really sore. And they blabbered their hurt feelings to Palin-hostile Alaskan bloggers. The alleged incident occurred Saturday night, and we hear about it only today? Double-meh. Granted that the number of houris is somewhat beside the point (if you're a teenaged boy you're pleased to be promised a threesome in paradise, let alone a seventythreesome) . . . here's what I came up with.
Tirmidhi's hadith is endorsed by Ibn Kathir on Q. 55:73. Ibn Kathir was the student of Ibn Taymiya. That means the number 72 is canon for Wahhabis like Bin Laden even if not for Islam at large. http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-29728.html Ironically al-Baghdadi's caliphate is beyond hadiths like this - the caliph can write his own hadiths - so ISIS might even agree with us that the number 72 is silly. 1) Reading the comments on that CBC article just reinforced, to me, the degree to which Canadians will believe they are informed and enlightened, and yet not be at all aware they don't have a fucking clue. It would shock and horrify most of them to realize they have that quality in common with the dreadful Americans. 2) The Palin Bar Brawl: I'd be wary of citing anything from a "local blogger." I haven't googled this particular person, but one female Alaskan blogger was responsible for a good many of the frivolous ethics claims against her. "National Socialism wasn't 'real' socialism"
Whenever I am accused of being a "fascist" by someone on the left -- not that our lovely delicately mannered friends on the left ever employ that particular pejorative against those of us on the right, heaven forfend -- I gently remind them of Mussolini's description of the role of the state under fascism. Roughly translated, "All within the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State." Which turns out to comport amazingly well with the role of the state under liberalism. (The absolutely overwhelming majority of liberals have never ever heard this quote. For some reason, the schools don't like to teach it. Wonder why.) World Bank GDP estimates (PPP) for 2013: 1 USA 16,800 2 China 16,158 Posted by: Costanza Defense at September 11, 2014 11:06 PM (ZPrif) I keep seeing that number, and just for the record, it is a risible fiction based on a number of completely spurious "adjustments" to actual measurable statistics. China's GDP is still about 1/2 that of the US, with about half of that coming from "makework" infrastructure projects that don't have an ROI, and accounting legerdemain intended to make money for cronies and relatives of high-ranking members of the Chinese Communist Party, with a pending real estate bubble and credit crunch that is going to make the recent US crisis look like a picnic in the park by comparison. Regarding the Palin family allegations:
I treat all such allegations as deliberate invented lefty agitprop until proven otherwise. During Campaign '08, here in the SF Bay Area, local newspaper comment sections were flooded with scurrilious stuff about Sarah Palin which purported to be from a Wasilla, Alaska local. Sure thing. Um, who is this local anyway? A bit of digging revealed that the individual in question was a blogger. For a "progressive" blog in Los Angeles. Who had never been to Alaska. But who totes was a "serious professional journalist" with "reliable local sources". OK. Serious professional journalist? Who with? _Newsweek_. OK. No hits on searching this person's name in Lexis-Nexis for that or any other news outlet. Let's get in touch with _Newsweek_ directly. Hmmmmm. They say they've never heard of this person. So I dutifully posted all of this basic shoe-leather detective work on the same SF Bay Area newspaper comment sections where the original scurrilious bullshit had appeared. Result? My commenting accounts being deleted without warning or explanation. Nice people, the left. By the way, the McCain '08 campaign staff were utterly clueless that this completely made-up character assassination shit was going on with their VP nominee, and thus it went without any official response at all. There's a reason why we don't worry about the Japanese attacking us again every December 7th.
It's because the last time they attacked us we put them through the meat grinder, then after they came out the other end in little pieces we nuked their asses. Then three days later, we nuked their asses again, just for the hell of it. After which the ones who survived that experience had no interest in ever fucking with us again. If we want to stop living in fear of the muzzies we need to do the same to them. Which we will not do with Barky, or any other modern day politician in the White House. And I don't care about the argument that most muzzies haven't attacked us. I don't imagine there were many people in Hiroshima or Nagasaki in August of 1945 who had a direct role in planning or carrying out the Pearl Harbor attack. Didn't matter then, shouldn't matter now. Posted by: otho ------- Yeah...sort of. But, mind you, Liam Hemsworth would have to back up...start over...and start doing movies at a rapid clip, to catch up to the same history of acting roles that Kurt Russell has under his belt. Hemsworth's characters in the Thor movies and in 'Rush', have an element of 'bad boy' to them. The character of 'Jed' that he played in 'Red Dawn' was sort of that way too. He implies that he's had to do things that haunt him. He's off to a good start, so far. He is an Aussie, though...and not an American, like Kurt Russell. McCain didn't take a fall, but he was unwilling to fight hard, let alone dirty. McCain's family has spent generations building up their family as Naval Statesmen, with new generations in the pipeline going to the Naval Academy. McCain wasn't willing to risk his family name and reputation by fighting hard and risking the media labeling him a racist -- as every effective attack on Obama is labeled.
McCain wants to make sure that the Sino-American War of 2043 has is led by McCain, either in Congress or in the Navy, ideally on the USS McCain. Being labeled the racist who was a racist to the first black Dem nominee was a real threat to that. where's GGE? wanted to tell him that when I was leaving the PO at lunchtime yesterday, there was this vintage mustang on the side of the road with the hood open and major flames boiling out of the engine. nobody around. called 911 immediately. then, in the rearview, saw some poor bastid running back to it with a fire extinguisher he'd obviously gotten from one of the stores or restaurants. FD send a hook ladder . . . it was bad. very nice looking mid or late 60s hardtop, not sure, maybe a 66. so sad

This is going to seem incredible, but maybe not. Brassieres are huge business. Huge. All sizes. All over the world. Just about every female want them and will pay for quality. I know a guy whose job was to focus group brassieres. Every day. All day. That was his job. All he did was sit behind a one way mirror glass and listen to women talk about brassieres. And boobies. Torquewrench & other Conservatives, especially the ones like us in MA (Me) & Commiefornia (Torquewrench)
I've been watching primaries for AOSHQ DD since first special election in FL between Jolly (Republican) & winner through September 9. I think all primary elections should be closed. I know of too many here in MA that are unenrolled (independent is 55%) & they usually vote R in General election but take D primary ballot to vote AGAINST Ds & tell everyone about it. I believe we would have conservative candidates that could win independents or others that stayed home if primaries were closed to only voters of R or D registration. I am either having very bad muscle spasm in my neck or I have swollen glands & it's been hard to turn, eat & swallow all day. I just poured glass of wine & am putting all away. Good Night! The 2008 campaign....
Palin was pulling in crowds 2x 3x bigger than Johnny Mac's. She was a rock star from Day 1. McCain, not so much. The MSM, all of 'em, were gloating during the hours leading up to Palin's 2008 RNC acceptance speech that Bristol's pregnancy was going to kill the campaign before it even started. The smug laughter, the chorlting, the breathless update on whether Bristol Palin would even show up - with Levi. And then, Sarah Palin destroyed the official Obama narrative before their very eyes. The look on Andrea Mitchell's face before and after speech told the tale. Rock star. Posted by: mrp at September 12, 2014 12:06 AM (JBggj) 353

"McCain's family has spent generations building up their family as Naval
Statesmen, with new generations in the pipeline going to the Naval Academy. McCain wasn't willing to risk his family name and reputation by fighting hard and risking the media labeling him a racist -- as every effective attack on Obama is labeled." And this is why the Horde are amazing in their insights. I wouldn't have ever essayed or even conceived of that hypothesis on my own, but it can't be easily ruled out. "McCain wants to make sure that the Sino-American War of 2043 is led by McCain, either in Congress or in the Navy, ideally on the USS McCain." I don't know who is going to lead the coming Sino-American War, but I know who is going to lose it, hard. The USA. Due to fundamental unseriousness and empty-headed distractibility. The USS _McCain_ is going to be resting on the bottom of the far Pacific, along with half of the USA's mighty 180 ship Navy. On 9/11 we were flying from NJ to O'Hare.
We landed after the towers had been hit, but knew nothing. O'Hare was spookey we noticed. Wasn't till an hour later after stopping for food we turned the radio on. It was then the second tower was falling. The worst was when we got home. All the people that knew we were traveling were worried sick. We survived that day in the air, but I hate those MFs that made family and friends feel tortured that day. Weird thing, cleaning up my emails from back then...we both had nightmares back then about 9/11. Both of us have forgotten them. Be well and be strong. Yup, for the Baltimore Sun, then the Washington Post. He assassinated himself at the beginning of The Third Bullet, pretty funny, as were his movie reviews. A friend texted me from Miller Park this evening. Giancarlo Stanton was hit in the face with a pitch thrown by Brewers pitch Mike Fiers tonight. She had great seats a few rows behind home plate and said it was absolutely horrific - home plate was covered with blood. A shaken Fiers then hit the next batter and benches cleared. The Brewers manager had enough sense to pull Fiers at that point.
I watched Fiers' post-game interview. He looked close to tears. Stanton is a great player. I really hope he's not too seriously injured. Chase Headley was also hit in the mouth tonight by a 98 mph fastball. Occupational hazard, but jeez, do you have any teeth left in your mouth after that? Then I had to explain to my kids about what. And the lie about it having nothing to do with religion, like IS has nothing to do with islam.

One thing I wondered in the aftermath of the September 11 attack was whether someone at the Windows on the World restaurant in the North Tower could have felt the impact (8:46 am), been blocked from descending by flames, seen the South Tower get hit (9:03), and collapse (9:59) and had enough time to create a rough parachute from tablecloths before the North Tower collapsed (10:2. To my knowledge, no one did -- but I wondered if such a scenario was even possible.

The weird thing about this day in 2001 was I didn't have the TV on. I wasn't geared toward always being alert to the goings on, just going about my normal morning routine. Was lucky enough to be a housewife at that time. I was informed by a friend. Crazy now that I have to be in the loop all the time, and I'm always way ahead of everyone else in my sphere. (Thanks to the horde, in large part.)
Weird, too, is now I am always reminded of that friend, who is now my enemy. Posted by: Kalneva at September 12, 2014 01:05 AM (3pQOs) 427

Posted by: happy companion at September 12, 2014 01:38 AM This is true. But I'm not measuring the characters by the actors. If the writing is strong enough and the actors are good enough, despite being little known, it works and you get the characters. True, but these are people who only look at it from the economics: to successfully project a war you need guns, butter and enough logistics to get people to where they need to fight. At some point you need something beyond, "my mom can sew costumes, we can make curtains, and we can use barn doors as a stage". With gold reserves looted they can buy a lot, but armies suck money like a trashpump sucks sewage. At some point they have to build or successfully steal infrastructure to prosecute their war or they will splinter into smaller bands that can survive at the economic level they currently have.
Of course, the Top Men we have directing this fight don't understand this and will never admit that it might be true so such insights are so much pissing in the wind. Posted by: kindltot at September 12, 2014 02:02 AM (t//F+) 475

Says people live 70-80 years: also, first appearance of "life's a bitch and then you die." (Hey, you have a posting utility that doesn't handle HTML correctly and doesn't have an edit function? You can't be bothered to fix it? I'm easy.) Posted by: PersonFromPorlock at September 12, 2014 04:54 PM (Mjn+V) 498
Re: lifespan: see Psalms 90:10.
