Obama Declares War on Common English Words and Promises to "Degrade and Roll Back" Their Accepted Meanings

Marie Larf says this isn't a "war on terrorism," and also isn't a "preemptive war" against potential future terrorist attacks, because Shut Up That's Why.

On twitter -- and I'm going to package this for a post -- I'm riffing on this being America's perfect Gnostic Moment, in which it is clear that we are currently living in an unreality created for us by the Gods of Television.

"Reality" is just another word for "what we see on TV." "Reality TV" has become a redundancy.

America has been living in a state of almost complete unreality since 2007. We are entirely disconnected from the real world. "The World" is simply the images on Television, and the false realities conjured for us by Public Relations Sorcerers who appear there upon the Holy Screen.

This should go well, is what I'm saying.

The Gnostic Imperative: Um, that isn't really a good title for the piece I'm going to link, but you have to admit, it's a good title anyway, even if it doesn't fit.

Sisu explores Shopenhauer's postulate that what we call our view of reality is in fact usually nothing more than an opinion formed by three people, who stated it with confidence, and then got other people to believe it, thinking the first three had rigorously tested it and proven it to be true, when in fact they just pulled it out of their asses.

Dire predictions, eh?

Bush himself made it damn near impossible for any other Republican to succeed him in 2008 and ensure continuity of Iraq policy.

Chief among the reasons for that are the Bush administration's own delusionally non-dire predictions and rosy scenarios for Iraq circa 2003, which all flamed out horribly when confronted by hard cold realities.

"We'll be greeted as liberators."

"Iraqis will welcome us with hugs and flowers."

"Islam is a religion of peace."

"This'll cost fifty billion, tops."

"Home by Christmas."

The Left's entire world view is based on the incorrect concept that ' perception is reality'.

They think that by coloring our perceptions, by controlling the very language, that it CHANGES objective reality.

It does not. War if War... calling it a Kinetic Military action does not change its nature... nor its LEGAL requirements.

Obama is about to bomb a Sovereign UN Nation State... Syria, without UN Sanction.

If he does so (as he has in the Past in Libya), he will once again be breaking US Law... as the UN Charter was ratified by the Senate, and thus has the force and weight of US law.

He will be making an Illegal Order.

"To begin withdrawing before our commanders tell us we are ready would be dangerous for Iraq, for the region and for the United States. It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to Al Qaeda.

It would mean that we'd be risking mass killings on a horrific scale. It would mean we allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they lost in Afghanistan.

It would mean we'd be increasing the probability that American troops would have to return at some later date to confront an enemy that is even more dangerous."

well basically except the "rooms" part is not inherent in the expression. The "Rooms" part is understood in certain contexts of the use of "suite," but when you say tout de suite you're not referencing rooms, you're saying all in a row, all on the snap, altogether, fast.

157 "Do we actually have ANY western nations on board or is it Iran and possibly saud?"

Obama said that "coalition partners are flying missions with us over Iraq right now".

As near as I can figure, the _only_ such partner has been the UK. And the only such "mission" was a UK cargolifter airdropping humanitarian relief to the Yazidis. The reason why they were "flying with us" was because the RAF were unable to escort their own cargo plane with their own fighter jets, and had to beg for U.S. Navy armed escorts instead.

Meanwhile, Cameron and Hollande have explicitly ruled out any participation by their respective militaries in the whole air-strike against IS business.

Due in part, one suspects, to the fact that they have really very little capability to accomplish such expeditionary warfare any longer. France was barely able to manage air strikes on its own in Mali, for example.

Then the other gets in power and loots the country dry.

The young adults can't afford kids cuz the gov't sucks up all their discretionary income. So, less taxes...

Over and over again. The elites aren't even trying to cover up the looting now.

243 Harf With Glasses Morning Routine:

0whatever-time as we would not want to be presumptive: Opens squinty myopic eyes like a mole in sunshine. Reaches for Clark Kent glasses on end table in boudoir. Yawns with hideous halitosis which wakes her pitiful example of male-husband lying dormant and pale next to her. She harfs up her daily hairball like a cat. He then rises and rushes off to make her coffee and waffle (which all in this administration eat religiously: waffles. Reminding them to waffle on all decisions and act Mensa w/sneer).

Thirty minutes to the dot after Harf with Glasses has jacked up herself with a quick shower and caffine (with eco shower head, of course, and recycled toilet water as her fragrance of choice is "Shalimar" which is sewer eau de toilette) she dresses in her designer clothes and grabs her designer jewels (oh, wait, wrong spokes-Fräulein that is Wilma Flintsone Psaki I am thinking of). Harf has quick thinking decision to make: cozy mohair, preppy cashmere for boobs/sex appeal, or dark mourning black for 9/11/14 a day of non-terrorism). She chooses black and calls driver of eco-limo running on the fuel of old grease and/or mooch's armpit exhaust.

At Owhatever time of this administration, gets briefing. John O'Kerry calls and explains why he is in sunglasses on recent photo: conjunctivitis from recent kiteboarding effort and, maybe, parasites coming out of eyeballs. But all is well. Theresa is sober for now and not keeling over. His message: all is well. It is 9/11. What a safe day. Do not secure anything, especially consulates or embassies. They love us, these SIS guys as the 'I' is now missing. We will start calling them PCAM (Puffy Cloud Angels of Mecca). Do not EVER say the word, "terrorism." It is an old Bush/Cheney word. Eliminate this from vocabulary like your veggie fiber loaf you had for lunch.

At Owhatever sharp she meets with the Press Corpse assigned to her. She notches up her sneer by sucking on a lemon or two behind the scenes. Puts on her panty hose with extra tight crotch invader/pincher spandex, and sashays out to podium upon which she honors all in her divine presence to bestow her wisdom upon. Points nose at reporter. Sneers. Wordsmiths. Repeats question. Asks if this is a question. Denies. Obfuscates.Repeat. Rinse. Recycle for a few more reporters. Finally, and with utter (udder? the bovine with glasses!) disdain and disgust, she points her pointy nose at the FOX reporter. Scowls. Emits a high-pitched farht out of her strained glutes due to thong and lemon juice, and attempts a smack-down of epic proportions. These episodes usually fail but she tries.

Valjar calls her at lunch, in which Harf with Glasses is chugging cheap Chardonnay with a pint or two of Ben and Jerry's. Valjar is pleased and you can hear her rubbing her insect-like hands together, making a dry cicada noise on the phone which mesmerizes Harf and soothes her into a zen-like trance.

Her job done for the day, she emails ole Jen Pits and tells her she is on her way back home to her husfrau, who is cowering in the corner when she arrives. The cycle repeats. But there is no terrorism. None. She has never said that word.

As for USN carrier aviation, this timely reminder:

The near future for American naval aviation entails not having nearly enough carriers (down potentially to only two deployable big decks at any given time).

Then within the context of a shortage of carriers, there will be a further shortage of carrier-capable aircraft.

Where the limited number of air wings will consist of:

-- Solidly reliable, but nonstealthy F/A-18s, an ancient design whose progenitor prototype first flew when Richard freaking Nixon was the President.

-- Somewhat stealthy F-35s, which are short-legged, unmaneuverable, prone to fires, vulnerable to battle damage, and have extremely low dispatch reliability.

(Guns Be Bad Bloomberg was frustrated that Colorado recalled its gungrabbers and made a statement to the effect that he didn't know if Colorado Springs even had paved streets. Well, the county courthouse in this town is located on a dirt road.) Anyway, they had a fire ladder truck with ladder extended at about a forty-five degree angle with a large American flag hanging from it blocking most of the dirt road. At just about the time the first airplane struck the tower, a bagpipe played Amazing Grace.

356 I'll just let Wittgenstein deal with this.

There is a reason that knowing the True Name of a person or a place or an item has long held significance. It is impossible to truly comprehend a matter if one cannot express the matter via words. The limits of language are the limits of knowledge.

My fury with deconstruction and post-modern semantic and semiotic thought, and, oh, how I am tempted to use the scare quotes around thought, is that such works are a purposeful inversion of semantics. Rather than struggling mightily to express reality through the frailty of human language, deconstruction seeks to use language to transform reality.

What we are witnessing is the logical and necessary endpoint of such beliefs. If language is all that exists, then, yes, controlling language will control reality. To refuse to call war war will result in there being no war. Oh, people will still die and buildings will still be destroyed but since the term war itself was not used, then those deaths and that destruction do not fall under the ambit of war and thus need not be viewed through the legal and moral prism of war. By changing the terms, the nature of the event itself is transformed through some sub-atomic magic or some such. The theory gets a wee bit fuzzy at how, precisely, that works.

Or tl;dr, far too many people think that this is will work and is the proper way to handle military disputes:
