I cannot wait for her book to be released. I've never before pre-ordered a book but did so here, on the first day she announced it, back in early March. It's gonna be a barn burner.

BTW, with respect to autism, we have a lot of incidence of that here in Utah and also some very good autism researchers. Latest theory I heard based on the clustering of autistic kids across the U.S. is that it's correlating with populations of moms who are on psych meds. It clusters in high income white communities where the moms are more likely to be on mood stabilizers and other sorts of psychoactive (medical) compounds.

I read the entire piece to which they refer and while she presents both sides of the issue, they do not. She interviews people on both sides of the debate, they, however, simply attack her reporting.
Reporters are SUPPOSED to present both sides of an argument.

And there's a weird disconnect in that Evangelicals like Jews, but Jews dislike Evangelicals even more than they dislike Muslims. Jews are the Evangelicals favorite religious group other than themselves, but Evangelicals are the Jews least favorite group.

Speaking of which, apparently it's getting quite risky for them in parts of Europe -- namely, the neighborhoods taken over by the Religion of Peace. I've heard several stories from folks whose kids were/are missions in France and iirc England where the missionaries were told in no uncertain terms that they'd better get out of that neighborhood.
Glanced at the PEW poll and saw attitudes wrt Mormons are pretty neutral across all belief systems. Maybe that's mostly a reflection of having little direct contact.

I think the anti-vax movement is pretty thoroughly discredited many times over, but if some scientist publishes a new analysis of the data in a real scientific journal that suggests otherwise, I don't think it's particularly irresponsible to report on that.

It was explained to me like this once... Evangelicals would insist that Hitler can be forgiven if he says he's sorry. Worse, Nazis did what they did knowing it was wrong *because* they could just ask forgiveness afterward.
Now... the person who said this to me might be a complete nutcase and the only one who thinks this in the History of the Planet.
It's also contrary to any actual Christian doctrine because quite obviously, if you do something you know is wrong, on purpose, because you can get forgiven for it afterwards, are you actually sorry? Pretty clearly you're not. The *repentance* part requires repentance.
Luther preached against the practice of the Church selling indulgences to forgive what God forgives for free... They were also selling indulgences for dead relatives, which he thought was bad. They also sold indulgences for future sin, which was viewed by some as a carte blanche. People caught on... paid up... and robbed the sellers of their booty on their way out of town.
So it's not as though the notion of forgiveness without repentance is unheard of... but that was in the 1500.

She probably had an understanding with the publisher that the book would come out in early October, but shit happens according to the publisher. While another publisher would say "hell yes we'll publish it next week", her publisher will just hold up her contract and say, "nope, we're good releasing it when we want to".
I would bet her contract has some weasel room for the publisher to delay the book for "certain unforeseen reasons".

Diver also. Can't beat Cozumel for that. Been there a couple of times. Amazing dives. Have fun and let me know how it was...what you saw. Love to hear.

I've been diving all over the world, and every time I end up comparing it to Cozumel. It has some of the most spectacular reefs in the world. And the clearest water. It's an annual trek for me.

My experiences with New York informed me that residents of Long Island are perhaps the most unpleasant human beings in this country. OTOH, folks from Manhattan were, for the most part, about as friendly as you could hope from big city folk.

That was one of the things that threw me. I expected everybody to be a serious asshole. They weren't. Met a lot of nice people.
Strange thing that happened to me there though was one time a nice hotel in Manhattan. I'd called for a wake-up call (like I need it, but anyway) and I was startled the next morning as I woke up to a bell hop (monkey suit and all) in my room standing over my bed trying to wake me up. Scared the Hell outta me.

Haven't been all over the world. Lived in FL so lots down there. One of my favorites is Bonaire. Stayed at a dive resort with tanks on the pier 24/7. Strap one on and night dive right there. can do great wreck dives from the beach. 130 ft. wall then sit in sand at 25 ft. and off-gas. never mind you've probably been there.

Shore dives are phenomenal. rented a jeep and loaded tanks and lunch in the morning. swim out to buoys and drop down to a wreck at 90-120. do a wall and then sit in the sand at 20 ft. and watch fish till air runs out. plenty of boats for drift dives also.

I was just thinking about that dive, years ago. also did a trip through a tunnel somewhere in that area. incredible. Except I ate the salad the night before and was really sick right before the dive. I kept thinking. "ok throwing up through your regulator is no big deal. just be cool" didn't have to thank God.
