If Obama Can Ignore The Law Requiring the Deportation of Illegal Aliens, Why Can't He Ignore the Law Requiring Asylum Hearings?
Obama's defense for the border chaos is that a 2008 law, signed by President Bush, requires that illegal immigrant children be granted an asylum hearing before any possible deportation.
However, given that Obama has already decided he has the power to not enforce laws requiring deportation, why can't he ignore this one too? Why can't he "borrow" the power from Congress to temporarily suspend this law given the crisis? And as a matter of fact, he already is ignoring this law, vis-a-vis child immigrants from Mexico. From the LA Times:Most of the minors are being held in Border Patrol stations in Texas and Arizona, and in emergency facilities set up by the Department of Health and Human Services on military bases and other sites. About 11,000, however, were from Mexico and were swiftly bused back across the border, as the law allows.It must be noted that it is Obama's lawless decision to stop enforcing the deportation law as pertains to children which is causing the flood of children at the border. Conn Carroll suggests that if Obama is determined to aggrandize his alleged executive powers to the absolute limit, he might consider doing something helpful along the way. Incidentally, NBC and CBS actually troubled themselves to notice that Obama was still refusing to visit the border, despite having four fundraisers scheduled in Texas.

And, yep, Bush did sign just such a law. An "anti-human-trafficking" law requiring due process in a court proceeding before deporting any illegal minor.
It's instructive to look at the antecedents of the law. House sponsors? Berman and Conyers. Senate sponsor? Biden. So pretty much obvious hard-left Democratic mischief making from the get-go.
Why then would Bush sign that?
Remind yourself that Bush was an enormous amnesty proponent from even before he was in office, and he tried to sneak amnesty through every single year he was in office, without fail.
So, when this bill showed up on his desk, literally in the last three weeks of his Presidency, when everything was quiet, half the staff had left already, and no one was paying attention to him any longer (media focus having shifted to the ridiculous "Office Of The President-Elect"), it appears that Bush had a moment.
A moment where he realized that, yep, this was a stealth amnesty enabling bill. But it was one last chance for him to contemptuously flip the bird to the anti-amnesty people who had been blocking him for eight straight years. So he went on and signed the thing.
Or, alternative explanation B is stupidity rather than malice. That Dubya the incompetent drugstore cowboy fucked everything up yet again with his habit of rushing to implement actions whose consequences he was not able to comprehend. Take yer pick.

As I've mentioned Mother in Law has a traumatic head injury from years back.
One result is poor memory, it's really odd poor memory, but there you have it.
It's not always that she forgets things, it's that sometimes she remembers old things (like her old address) instead of the up to date information. Sometimes she gets it right though. It's weird.
Anyway, one of the more recent things she forgot was the current price of bread. She likes to feel independent so Wife and I took her shopping while we were staying with her and she about had a conniption because she thought that $0.75/loaf was "high priced." When she saw what bread actually was she refused to buy it thinking they were scamming her. (To make matters worse, I was on a diet at that point, so I needed whole grain bread, which was more expensive.)
It took a while but we got her to realize what prices were.
Oddly: she knew that milk was over $3/gallon.

I honestly don't know what a store loaf of bread costs here. Part of the problem is our stores are using the grocery store shrink ray to keep prices appearing low.
But I think a normal sized (16oz) loaf of store bread wheat goes for about a $1. A bit less ($0.89?) for white.
Which is still more than MIL thought expensive bread was, which lead to the problems.

The way I read (skimmed over) the law is that they have 48 hrs to determine if they're the victims of "severe" trafficing, but if they are unable to do so the non-Mexican minors are placed into HHS custody.
So yeah- they're supposed to get a hearing in 48 hrs, but the law allows for exceptions when that isn't feasible.

Panera Bread has good shit at a good price and it's less than a mile from my home. I go on line, order for rapid pick up, they make it in less than 15 minutes, charge my card and I double park walk in and pick it up.

Don't kid yourself that Mexico is not complicit in this. I live near the border, and have traveled extensively in Mexico. There is no way in hell that, in the space of a few months, tens of thousands of Central American illegal aliens got across Mexico's southern border, and then traveled across Mexico's interior, without the knowledge and cooperation of the Mexican government.
The Mexicans have been paid to look the other way. Probably by LaRaza, and probably with U.S. taxpayer money.

It is only because of Obama's refusal to enforce the border that these unaccompanied children are here in the first place. By granting "permisos" to asylum hearings he is actually encouraging the invasion that he is enabling and he might be successfully sued by the invaded states.
At the least they ought to undertake their own border enforcement and use Obama's refusal to enforce the laws and protect them from invasion as their justification. AZ was semi-successful in its legal defense of previous measures to enforce the border and Obama's collapse-the-border gambit changes the legal circumstances much in their favor. Time for them to up the ante on the other side.

They aren't fleeing "danger." That is simply what they've been coached to say, so that they can claim "refugee" status.
Initially, over 90% of the illegal aliens were reporting that they had come here because they'd been told they'd get amnesty ("permisso") if they did. Only after there was a public backlash did they start claiming that they'd come here because they were "afraid." They have been coached by the people responsible for this invasion (LaRaza, Obama admin., etc.).
It's the same as when the illegals were marching in the streets a few years ago, waving Mexican flags and demanding amnesty. The coverage pissed off Americans, and the word went out to carry American flags instead. Now every amnesty march/parade features lots of illegals carrying American flags. It's all PR bullshit, to con LIV American voters who don't pay attention.

What's interesting is the groups that were at the meeting. Center for American Progress! Which just posted to its website a glossy 42 page report on "What the President Can Do on Immigration If Congress Fails to Act." Also present were the SEIU and the AFL-CIO. I would have thought that an open Mexican border is not in the interest of the dues-paying members of these unions. What am I missing? La Raza was not invited only because its President had dissed Obama by publicly calling him the Deporter-in-Chief for not having acted unilaterally without Congress back in March. ValJar doesn't forget such slights.
