WSJ Breathlessly Suggests: Was David Brat's Defeat of a Jewish Congressman Somehow Related to His Hitler-Shall-Rise-Anew Agenda?
All of this is interesting -- hey, I learned something; I had no idea David Brat was a full-on libertarian -- but the piece is written as if to suggest the excerpts here constitute Dangerous Thoughts and therefore Campaign Fodder.
David Brat, the Virginia Republican who shocked House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) Tuesday, wrote in 2011 that Hitler’s rise "could all happen again, quite easily."And?
Mr. Brat's remarks, in a 2011 issue of Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology, came three years before he defeated the only Jewish Republican in Congress.What? They're suggesting Brat is pro-Hitler? How else can one read their noting that Brat said that Hitler could rise again, and then mention that in reference to the defeat of the GOP's only Jewish Congressmen as if they're linked? Here's what he actually wrote:

Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Oh, read on, and you'll see this Ignoramus being surprised at the observation that the "government exercises a monopoly on the use of force." Update: Eric Cantor will step down as majority leader on July 31st. Why wait so long? I know a vote has to be scheduled and people need to lobby and such, but why a month and a half from now? Obviously he's in a greatly diminished position, having lost his reelection bid. How can he serve as Majority Leader, even for 50 days? The Wall Street Journal: Many suggest that the WSJ printed this alleged news report because it is Establishment, corporatist, and relentlessly pro-amnesty. Maybe. That's all true. However, it must be remembered that while the WSJ ownership and editorial board are conservative (well, corporate conservative), its actual reporters are as progressive as anyone else's. This could be less about the Establishment getting their own back against the Tea Party and more about simple progressive activism in the media.

But the key event of the election, which occurred during the Cantor crash week, was this: on May 28, Rep. Luis Gutierrez came all the way to Richmond to appear at the Virginia Capitol building for the purpose of declaring Eric Cantor to be "the one man standing in the way of immigration reform."
Of course, the Allen mailers proclaiming the exact same message had gone out just a day or two before.
Adding one plus one together, not a soul present at the Gutierrez event was not suspicious that the Cantor team had coordinated with Gutierrez to produce pure theater. A Brat loss served Gutierrez's interests, as Brat was clearly less of a partner on amnesty than Cantor, and Cantor knew that his amnesty history was killing him within his district.
So Brat showed up an hour ahead of the Gutierrez event -- knowing the cameras would already be there -- and got out the message that Cantor's mailers were dishonest, and that Cantor was in fact the friend of amnesty in this race.
This appearance by Brat, and the amateur-hour kabuki orchestrated by Cantor and Gutierrez, was the day the MSM first paid attention to Brat. This was the turning point. Brat loses if Gutierrez does not show, or if Brat does not show up to preempt him.

You're right & I really have to go get blood tests now. I had dangerously low sodium & very high BP last week.
I didn't go Monday because I went to get injection in neck for pain.
Yesterday I was miserable but it was hot & humid here so I iced my neck. Injection makes pain worse.

The point isn't how absurd the story is, or whether or not it's true. The point is the headline: "Brat loves himself some Hitler."
When Anne Richards won the governor's seat here in TX many many years ago, part of what sealed the deal was a story that ran in a few major papers with the headline "[Opponent] Paid No Taxes in [Year]" (I was young enough that I do not remember the opponent or the year).
The STORY then went on to state, accurately, that he had paid no taxes because he owed none- he had actually lost money in the year in question. But the point wasn't the story- the Headline was everything- and it worked.

Sharing civic power between lots of institutions is fundamental to Democracy. When a man belongs to many groups: his religion, his community, government, family, social groups like the Boy Scouts, Shriners, etc. he is unlikely to go off the rails in any one direction. When all moral and physical force comes from one institution (government), bad things happen. That may be the biggest problem in the US today, everything but government has lost too much influence to keep people doing the right thing.

Take... the Police. There used to be the FBI, Federal Martials, Secret Service, and other Federal Police agencies.... as well as State Agencies... who all watched each other.
If one got out of hand? You could go to the one of the others for help.
Now? They all basically fall under the Dept. of Homeland Sec...
Spies? Same thing... we had Defense Intelligence agencies... the CIA... the NSA... and they all had separate mandates... under separate command structures..
Now? all under National Security Advisor, who is an unelected office, that is not even Confirmed by the Senate.
They have taken the competing interest, and put them under one roof, using efficiency as the excuse... but by doing so, they took a lot of the systems built in protection, and threw it out the window.

I know it's a joke, but if memory serves, the Wehrmacht didn't bother trying to punch through the Maginot Line, they sent panzers through the Ardennes, which were erroneously thought by the French to be impenetrable by armor.
So in truth, the Maginot Line worked just fine. Problem was it was incomplete.

I certainly have the right to defend myself. Both from individuals and an illegitimate government. But that does not change the fact that a legitimate government can, and must, be the final say (exercise a monopoly) in use of force.
The question is not whether or not a government has the right and even duty to regulate use of force. The question is whether the government exercises that right (and/or fulfills that duty) in a manner that is consistent with human nature and our natural rights.

Not true. Like most national newspapers, many people only skim to find articles of interest, or to "look like" they read the paper in question. Additionally, as someone else pointed out- the headline and first sentence or two are what are going to show up on search results- not the full article.
It's a hit-job.
Look at it another way- why even ask the question? Given how non-controversial his actual position is, why even talk about it? Do we have some surge of neo-nazism of which I'm unaware? The only way this is worth of consideration at all is if you believe (or, at least, represent) his views to be controversial.

Of course he might be testy on the subject since he appealed to all the national Tea Party groups for help at the start and got nothing. Brat hasn't realized that the groups are out for themselves and don't represent the TP in truth, just use it to raise money.
The real "TP" money in primaries like MS comes from Club for Growth, which was 20 years old before the first Tea Party in 2009, and Senate Conservatives Fund, which is also non-aligned and only funds Senate races, as well as a few PACs, none of which are directly affiliated with any TP group.

two years after Hitler became chancellor on January 30, 1933. I am sure
many informed Germans were horrified but it was too late. Here are
three of Hitler's early steps to consolidate power: 1) A huge
extra-judicial armed force had been given money and authority outside

extra-judicial authority had been set up outside normal German
jurisprudence (The Gestapo) also run by Himmler. 3) Concentration camps
were setup originally to get Nazi political opponents out of the way
and discourage them from speaking out, also run by Himmler. These camps
turned into places where millions of people from central Europe were
murdered (some Germans too). In a sense, Himmer was Hitler's terrorist
and executioner, and followed the fuhrer absolutely.
I haven't
seen the Bratt remark, but if was referring to how quickly Hitler
altered Germany with a tyrannical outcome, he may have said so because
Americans are noticing how quickly our government institutions are used
against the taxpayers and are threatening Americans, while protecting
foreign invaders who break US law by not having authority to be here.
