That's it for today folks. Make sure all you people in and around NYC
have your Easter finery all cleaned and pressed for the annual promenade
down 5th Avenue.

And make sure you have the Irving Berlin
song all down. I had to sing that song and do a bible reading for an
Easter play when in the second grade. I suspect that any school doing an
Easter play now would be immediately shutdown, razed, and burned by
elements of the ACLU and the BLM. But not until after the Dept of
Education SWAT team had killed every teacher and participant with heavy
weapons and tanks.

16 True Story -

My son is student teaching 2nd graders in a district in The South. We're from the northeast, reasonably conservative, church-going, not so much God-Fearing as "not looking to piss off God".

The teacher in his class showed a "story of Easter" animated film. She made a point of calling the students' attention to the part where Jesus was fulfilling the part about being resurrected.

My son was gob-smacked. Not angry or troubled. Just "what the ever-living fuck just happened?"

So, take heart - Christian indoctrination is going on in at least some of our public schools. My only concern is that it be Lutheran in nature, not that Baptist crap. /cough/

Happy Easter!

19 >>So, take heart - Christian indoctrination is going on in at least some of our public schools

By Utah law, there is release time from public school days so students can walk next door to the LDS "seminaries" for instruction.

Not sure what happens if you aren't LDS, but this probably explains why nearly everyone I've met says it's very hard to raise non-LDS kids here.

22 If that Muslims refusing to serve gay patrons story were in, say, Mississippi, and the people doing the refusing were Evangelical Christians, does anyone doubt that there'd be a massive nationwide protest, led by Maddow, Matthews, Stewart, etc. designed to destroy the lives and communities of the cab drivers? The National Guard would be on alert right now.
I'm sure GOProud, NAMBLA, etc. value the Muslims for their service in undermining Western culture, so they can let a little straight up discrimination slide.

31 The Labor Department has pulled back — at least temporarily — from new minimum wage rules that had led several fast-food restaurants to end their contracts on military installations and prompted others to possibly follow suit.

Labor officials are “reevaluating” wage determinations for fast food workers and expect to “reissue industry-specific fast food wage determinations in the near future,” according to a departmental announcement sent to interested parties and contracting offices.

At issue are recently implemented Labor Department rules for fast food workers on federal contracts under the Service Contract Act that require an increase in their minimum wage, varying by region.

The rules also require payment of new, additional “health and welfare” benefits at a rate of $3.81 per hour.

In a request for a waiver from these new wage rules regulations, the Navy noted that in six areas in Florida, California and Virginia, the increase in the new mandated hourly wage ranges from 72 percent to 76 percent.

Last year, DoL decided that fast food workers under federal contracts would be subject to these requirements, and included the codes in their wage determinations, although they had not been in the past. DoL has now removed the codes for fast food workers from these wage determinations.

With those rules now removed, contracting agencies will have to submit an e98 request form to Labor officials before they set wage and benefit rates for fast food workers in federal contracts. Meanwhile, Labor officials expect to finish their reevaluation soon.

In March, McDonald’s restaurants closed on three Navy bases, and Marine Corps officials have said one will close on a Marine base. Another eatery, “I Love Country,” has closed at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The majority of fast food concessions on Army and Air Force bases are unaffected because they are operated directly by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, not by contract.

Russell Beland, deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for military manpower and personnel, had sent a letter to DoL April 8 asking for an exemption from the wage regulations.

In that letter, Beland said Navy and Marine Corps exchange officials estimate that unless relief is granted, up to 390 fast food concession operations would close on installations across the U.S. and its territories, with a loss of nearly 5,750 jobs, many held by military family members and veterans.

These contracts are negotiated for different bases at different times, so the effects would be seen incrementally. The Navy and Marine Corps exchange systems already have suspended 74 contracts for “new concepts,” according to Beland’s letter.

Concessionaires can’t increase their prices on bases to offset increased labor costs, because under most contracts they can’t charge more than is charged by similar services within a specified radius of a military installation, according to an April 10 letter to DoL signed by Reps. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee’s personnel panel, John Kline, R-Minn., chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, and 38 other lawmakers.

The lawmakers asked DoL to exempt some military morale, welfare and recreation and exchange operations, such as fast food concessions, from the wage regulations affecting federal contractors on military bases.

“Should these policy changes be fully implemented, we are concerned they will eliminate jobs, negatively impact recreational services on military bases, and limit the dining options for service men and women on military installations,” the lawmakers wrote.

Navy and Marine Corps exchange officials estimate a combined loss of about $27 million a year in profits associated with food service sales alone.

The companies aren’t paid by the federal government; they rely on the revenue they receive from their customers, and provide revenue payments to the exchange systems that help support MWR programs.

Another example of liberals/obama not realizing the real effects of their liberal bullshit college course laws that do NO good and hurt people. Fuck wads

It has always been my understanding that restaurant workers were exempt from the fair wage and labor act. This Obamanite BS pay off the unions is illegal as hell.

The Navy should tell the fast food companies to SUE and then tell the DOL to stick this up their ASS.

Of course then a DOL SWAT team would raze the food joint, burn it to the ground, and kill everyone with tanks, mortors, and M2 machine guns.

That's not where I think it will hurt. We will vote, mostly. If I were in NH I would vote for Scott Brown over Jean Shaheen.

The thing that will hurt will be the enthusiasm gap. They need conservatives to hold signs, make phone calls and distribute lawn signs. Try getting your out of state PAC to do that.

19 >>So, take heart - Christian indoctrination is going on in at least some of our public schools By Utah law, there is release time from public school days so students can walk next door to the LDS "seminaries" for instruction. Not sure what happens if you aren't LDS, but this probably explains why nearly everyone I've met says it's very hard to raise non-LDS kids here.

I'm in Ohio, from a predominantly Catholic town to the point where it is the only church there. And it shares parking area with the public elementary school. We had release time to go to the CCD building for religion class. Non Catholics or those not wishing to have their kids go to it, were just given free time for the half hour or however long it actually was.

79 Well.. with spring being so late and all, there's not a helluva lot going on. There is a beautiful park out this way called Cantigny, the home and grounds of Col Robert McCormack. http://tinyurl.com/czboqr

They have a pretty cool museums.. the old mansion and the First Division Museum. http://tinyurl.com/nymtyd9

But, it's the grounds and gardens that are the most beautiful to me, and it's at least a few weeks too early, although the tulips may be up.

If you get down town, I would say the Art Institute of Chicago would be my top recommendation if you haven't been there already.

http://tinyurl.com/pkfvo

They have some very famous artwork there.. some of the best known impressionist stuff.

Today is a sad day at Casa Y-not because we're going to take our eldest kitteh, who is around 15 (we found him as a stray), in to be put to sleep. He's been on thyroid meds, but I suspect there's something bigger going on now because his condition has really fallen off the past few weeks. It's possible the stress of being boarded when we ran out of town was too much for his already compromised system.

Anyway, we found him when we were living in Houston, so he's our last tangible connection to those happy days in Texas. But it's clear he's uncomfortable, so it's time.

87 OK research done, info I got from friends who run a restaurant was incorrect. Restaurant workers are not exempt, but they may as well be. Workers who work for tips and wages though have a special min wage of $2.13/hr. I would say that legally just having a fast food joint on base does NOT make a worker there a federal contractor. So they would still have a good case to sue the shit out of the Obamanite thugs who are kissing union ass.

Rule of Law (tm)!:

Openly gay judge overseeing Oregon gay marriage case

And U.S. District Judge Michael McShane won't have anyone in the courtroom defending Oregon's constitutional ban when he holds oral arguments Wednesday.

McShane will face a battery of lawyers all telling him to strike down the 2004 voter-approved constitutional amendment limiting marriage to one man and one woman. But Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced earlier this year that she wouldn't defend the law because it violates federal equal-rights protections as interpreted by last year's Supreme Court decision.

"That would appear to make the case a foregone conclusion," says William Duncan, who heads the Marriage Law Foundation, a Utah-based group opposed to same-sex unions.

It really is, because it's hard to feel certain that you should "give up" on the pet, especially when it's been a chronic debilitating condition instead of something traumatic like being hit by a car.

But he doesn't seem to be himself the past few days. I wasn't able to get him to purr when he was sitting on my lap and his mobility and posture are bad. So it's time.

I'm sorry to hear that Y. If it's possible, I'd suggest seeing if you can have the vet do a house call to carry out the procedure. I did that with the last cat I had to put down and it's comforting to know that he went into the long sleep in familiar surroundings, sitting in the sun and held by someone who loved him. I've had to put down other cats and it's always wrenching to know that the last trip was stressful and unhappy.

No, but the fast food joints themselves would be considered federal contractors, which is what matters. And Barky has decreed that federal contractors will pay his new made up minimum wage to their workers.

Yet as was pointed out above, that same 'contract' says that the companies cannot charge more than the prevailing amounts for sammiches in the surrounding communities.

So the companies are stuck. They can't charge enough for their product to make up for the vastly increased labor costs to even break even let alone make a profit.

So they are walking away. More TFG brilliance in action.
