Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Pennsylvania Attorney General Kane Threatens to Sue People If They Continue Accurately Reporting That She Dropped Prosecutions of Democrats Caught Taking BribesFirst of all, the background: The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office ran an undercover sting operation over three years that captured leading Philadelphia Democrats, including four members of the city's state House delegation, on tape accepting money, The Inquirer has learned. Yet no one was charged with a crime. Prosecutors began the sting in 2010 when Republican Tom Corbett was attorney general. After Democrat Kathleen G. Kane took office in 2013, she shut it down. In a statement to The Inquirer on Friday, Kane called the investigation poorly conceived, badly managed, and tainted by racism, saying it had targeted African Americans. ... Before Kane ended the investigation, sources familiar with the inquiry said, prosecutors amassed 400 hours of audio and videotape that documented at least four city Democrats taking payments in cash or money orders, and in one case a $2,000 Tiffany bracelet. Typically, the payments made at any one time were relatively modest - ranging from $500 to $2,000 - but most of those involved accepted multiple payments, people familiar with the investigation said. In some cases, the payments were offered in exchange for votes or contracts, they said. Sources with knowledge of the sting said the investigation made financial pitches to both Republicans and Democrats, but only Democrats accepted the payments. ... Sources with knowledge of the sting said Ali approached a wide range of officials, from both parties, black and white. In time, the sources said, Ali didn't even have to reach out to elected officials. They called him.Tyron B. Ali was a lobbyist who'd been caught in a $430,000 fraud case. Apparently prosecutors recruited him to wear a wire for this investigation. He was connected to the political culture of west Philadelphia, because that's where he'd operated before. That, rather than race, accounts for who he did or didn't contact. (And, apparently, elected officials were calling him, anyway.) Given this explosive slam-dunk corruption case, Kane chooses to disappear it, and issues a single quote when asked about it: that the case is "nothing more than the Good Ol' Boys club playing political games to discredit me in order to fulfill their own selfish and improper agenda." And now, via the Ungrateful Loaf of Bread, she seems to be threatening the free press in an effort to cover up her cover up. During the meeting, Sprague [Kane's new lawyer] suggested that The Inquirer may have been used by the sources of its stories – “wittingly or unwittingly” as a “weapon” to attack Kane to defend themselves from potential charges of wrongdoing in the management of the probe. “I intend to look at the investigation from the very beginning to the conclusion of it, and in terms of what has been published, by this paper and others, to take appropriate action on behalf of the attorney general against those responsible for the defamatory and the false publications that have been made,” Sprague said.Incredible. Note so incredible when you put it into context.
Kane is a democrat hack -- she has done many things to attack her predecessor as AG (the current governor), including trying to tie Sandusky to Corbet by claiming that Corbet personally slowed the investigation. It is believed by many of us that she also is behind the lawsuit that convinced a judge that it was legal to require a photo id to drive, cash a check, open a bank account, buy certain over the counter medications, get onto an airplane, enter certain state govt buildings etc., but it was unconstitutional to have to prove your identify to vote. Recall also that it was Philadelphia were no state action was taken on the thugs of color intimidating voters as well as other voting shenanigans have occurred. Three things really need to change in American law.... or we are done IMO...
1. The idea of Sovereign Immunity does not work with the idea of a Republic. Even the Government cannot be above the Law.... the people MUST have the ability to sue. 2. We must readdress the idea of standing, as it pertains to Constitutional Issues... ANYONE should be able to sue, as weakening the Constitution (for those of us who have sworn to defend it) puts our immortal soul and Honor in Jeopardy.... which is damaging to us (even if only mentally). 3. We must get Prosecutorial Discretion back to its intended place... where it was used to decide if they had enough evidence, NOT used to ignore laws that an AG does not like. Without these three changes... the idea that we have the Rule of Law, is done (IMO). Posted by: Romeo13 at March 21, 2014 11:32 AM (84gbM) 58

"False" = "Damaging to Democrats" Posted by: Insomniac at March 21, 2014 11:30 AM (DrWcr) Oh, I know. It just seems like an awkward wording. A publication can't be false, unless it's something that's been written about in fiction and doesn't actually exist, like "The Daily Planet." A publication is a physical thing. The facts and statements WITHIN the publication may be false, but that's different. I know I'm being pedantic, but this Sprague ass is a lawyer for a lawyer. Maybe pick your words better, wiseacre. Ace, it's not "incredible." "Incredible" means "beyond belief."
We are well through the looking glass. Things I fully expect to see in the next three years: Churches will have their tax-exempt status revoked for not performing gay weddings. In the federal government (including the military), promotions based on anything other than seniority will be banned. GPS/tracking devices a la the "Progressive Snapshot" (oh, the irony) will be required on all personal vehicles (not "required," but those who refuse to install them will be taxed heavily). And that's just a few. Posted by: Tinfoil Hat or maybe not at March 21, 2014 11:43 AM (vgIRn) 119

The idea that the Inquirer would be used in a story like this is just laughable. Kane's from a small town and obviously doesn't show shit about how big city newspapers operate. From CBS Philly: http://cbsloc.al/1oFrK8B
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Chris Stigall talked to former CBS News Reporter Sharyl Attkisson this morning on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT about the trouble reporters have to deal with while covering politicians and the government, as well as the current state of investigative reporting. Responding to comments regarding a Phoenix television reporter yesterday who initially claimed that the White House pre-screens questions from reporters, Attkisson said, “I wouldn’t surprised if sometimes there is that level of cooperation with some questions. If I need something answered from the White House and they won’t tell me, I’ll call our White House Correspondent. They’re friendlier with the White House Correspondents in general. So the White House Correspondent may ask Jay Carney or one of his folks about an issue and they will be told ‘ask that at the briefing and we’ll answer it.’ They want to answer it in front of everybody. They do know it’s coming and they’ll call on you. There’s that kind of coordination sometimes. I wouldn’t be shocked if there’s sometimes more coordination. I don’t think it’s everybody on every briefing, every day. I’m pretty sure it’s not. But I think people would be surprised at the level of cooperation reporters have in general with politicians.” Oh Sharyl, no we wouldn't. Maybe those on the left would, but us on the right? For heaven's sake, has Merkel started taking shots of the same stupid juice as our benighted Preezy and the Secretariat of State?
Merkel says Cold War over as 21st century rules take over Bloomberg: http://bloom.bg/1iKASHk German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she’s moved on from the Cold War as she upbraided Russia for refusing to play by 21st-century diplomatic rules. Merkel, the country’s first chancellor from the former Communist East Germany, speaks Russian and has telephoned with President Vladimir Putin regularly since Russia moved to seize Crimea to urge him to back down. “Fortunately, I like the rest of us have been able to leave the Cold War behind me,” Merkel told reporters in Brussels today when asked about her view of a renewal of the east-west divide. “I also think that history doesn’t easily repeat itself.” ... Really, Angela? You really think that? REALLY? Although there was a recent fight where Norcross fired the editor because he didn't find him far left enough and I believe he eventually got his job back. 187: "I am a longtime observer of interethnic clashes here in Commiefornia (an accelerating phenomenon) but I haven't ever run into bad blood between Koreans and Filipinos. Perhaps I'm just not clued in. What is the catalyst?"
Juicey girls in Korea. The Korean girls tended to be mean spirited and bitchy, as well as plumper. The Filipinas tended to steal their boyfriends and customers. Cat fights ensued. Eventually, the Korean economy picked up enought that the Korean juiceys weren;t making enough money from the GIs, and so they went elsewhere for the most part. Only a few who couldn't make it elsewhere remained. They were replaced by the Russians and Ukrainians. To many a GI's delight. Each ethnic group imagined themselves to be at the top. Arguments on the correctness of the opposing faction's assertion has led to many a... "disagreement". Posted by: Azenogoth (Freedom or Fire) Est. 1836 at March 21, 2014 12:06 PM (LJpVo) 214
It's well past the time to make life difficult for the leftists who are employed by the government. One good place to start is with education, and in the states that are controlled by the GOP, I'd take away tenure, who determines who is hired, what is taught, and any other governing functionality from the public universities. And if any of the current faculty don't like it, they can leave or lose their jobs.
That's where I'd start, though if it starts with something else, like the EPA or the IRS, I'll be more than happy to start there as well. Just so long as we don't leave a government institution controlled by these assholes left unchallenged. We simply can't give these assholes any leeway whatsoever. We need to bring the hammer down on them now and continue to bring it down on them. Posted by: Blor-Utar at March 21, 2014 12:07 PM (dQbaM) 215
Washington Nearsider, yes you could look at it that way. Or look at it as a chance to talk with other modellers, learn some new tricks on building, see what the vendors are offering, and have fun.
I have known a few modellers who have looked at the Gunpla stuff for Gundam then go 'no way can I build to that level!' and just quit. Also I get that feeling when it comes to letting others look at my writing. Thoughts of how horrible it all is runs rampant in my mind as I nervously do so. Some of the model builders are truly OCD scary in detail level. I stop myself by going, will anyone else see that I have run the rudder cables? There comes a point where its insane and one has to stop. And no did not install the rudder cables. Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at March 21, 2014 12:07 PM (rh481) 216
If it gets out that God is not in Noah, then they will probably wind up hoping and praying for as much success as Waterworld.
This is the quote from the Hollywood Reporter review I linked above (emphasis mine): "The narrative of the global flood that wiped out almost all earthly life is the original disaster story, one that's embraced by most of the major world religions, which means that conservative and literal-minded elements of all faiths who make it their business to be offended by untraditional renditions of holy texts will find plenty to fulminate about here. Already banned in some Middle Eastern countries, Noah will rile some for the complete omission of the name “God” from the dialogue, others for its numerous dramatic fabrications and still more for its heavy-handed ecological doomsday messages, which unmistakably mark it as a product of its time. But whether you buy these elements or not, this is still an arresting piece of filmmaking that has a shot at capturing a large international audience both for its fantasy-style spectacle and its fresh look at an elemental Bible story most often presented as a kiddie yarn." I just... So it's a Bible story, but completely ignores the Bible's story. Okay. Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Bossy Assault Hobbit at March 21, 2014 12:08 PM (4df7R) 217

"Merkel says Cold War over as 21st century rules take over"
Merkel's an idiot. She opted to mothball all of Germany's nuclear power after Fukushima (because as we all know, tsunamis are an ever-present risk in northern Europe). For public consumption, the _Energiewende_ conversion to "green, renewable" power was supposed to fill the gap. In reality, Germany's green power push has been an extremely expensive flop. Merkel is an able enough analyst to realize that green power isn't a viable thing, but is also a savvy enough politician not to say so in public. (The "green" malarkey is still popular with the German voters.) So her plan has been to talk constantly about green power, while quietly behind the scenes making sure that there's adequate fossil fuel power so that German heavy industry does not grind to a halt. Unfortunately, that then leaves Germany in a situation where Russia becomes the vital swing supplier for fossil fuel energy. So Putin can now do whatever the fuck he wants, and Merkel can't really do anything more than issue sternly worded communiques. Posted by: torquewrench at March 21, 2014 12:12 PM (noWW6) 228

"Great. My husband just sliced a huge gash into his arm at work. With no insurance."
I can't say this enough: In the glorious new era of Obamacare, any sensible person needs to figure out who the doctors are in their area who will accept them as cash patients. Note: it's really for the best if you make these inquiries _before_ you fall sick or get hurt. In my experience, some practices just aren't set up for cash and are bewildered to be asked. But others are totally delighted to have cash offered. For them actually to get paid -- on time -- without hassles -- without haggling over "usual and customary" -- and without having to maintain a backroom clerical staff to process stupid insurance shit -- is an enormous economic win. Margins in medical practices are not as large as is commonly assumed. Posted by: torquewrench at March 21, 2014 12:18 PM (noWW6) 251

The pro-life Republican AG went after Tiller for serious crimes. Tiller was protected by Sebillius and thus got off, despite overwhelming evidence against him. Dangergirl,
It will sting like a bitch, but liquid bandadge works really well. If that's not available, super glue can also work in a pinch. I gashed my foot open earlier this week and really just did not have time to go get stitches. Used liquid bandage, and it's as good as new. But again, it stings like a bitch. Super glue as sold in retail stores is not the same chemistry as actual medical superglue. If I were in a pinch, away from care, and it was mandatory to close a wound in a hurry, I would use the ordinary superglue. But I would also be really extremely careful about cleaning and disinfecting and debriding the injury before gluing it shut. Posted by: torquewrench at March 21, 2014 12:27 PM (noWW6) 289

Posted by: ManWithNoParty While only a few are persuadable the audience, if there is one, make the audience your ally. If so, don't argue. Ask questions. With a smile. IF you ask them pointed questions, they'll put up their defenses and it becomes an argument. If you ask them questions about potential results or how they arrive at their opinion, they invariably engage in hand-waving. Play innocent carefully; it can't be too obvious or you're back to arguing. The trick is to back them into a corner where they have little to no knowledge of the subject and them get them to admit ignorance. "You said you don't have the information but you're sure that policy is the only one. Why is that?" Let them act like the raging zealot and make them follow you down a hole of questions. Do not glue or seal the wound.
Let it breathe and let it drain. Sealing a wound seals in the bacteria (yes even with antibiotics taken) and it will fester. Very deep wounds need to drain sealing them also raises the pressure around the wound and inhibits healing. stitch it or bandage it and change the dressing often (no more than a few hours at first between changes) letting any pus and foreign matter a way to get out. Then clean and rebandage. At any sign of red streaks radiating towards the body or intense pain or discoloration GET TO A HOSPITAL OR CLINIC. Keep it clean and keep it drained. When it lessens in swelling and is less red, you're on the road to recovery but keep a close eye on it. This is back woods medicine (ymmv) and it isn't like how they practice wound care in a hospital. But it works. I'm just gonna put this right here for Allen G., and anyone else who is low-carbing, paleo, or primal.
Baconaisse 1/4 cup liquified bacon drippings 1/2 cup other oil of choice, macadamia, avocado, or olive (but not virgin or extra virgin olive oil, b/c it has too fruity a taste) 2 egg yolks 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp spicy brown mustard 2 tsp apple cider vinegar 1 tsp sea salt 1/4 tsp pepper Easy way: in a tall, thinnish container or jar, dump all ingredients. Get out a stick blender, plug it in and stick it into the bottom of the container. Turn it on and slowly pull up on it. Do this several times until blended well. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for a week. Other way: mix eggs with all ingredients except oils in a food processor. With the machine running, slowly drizzle in the rest of the oil and run until it comes together. Store as above. Makes about a cup of mayo. DG, when Jed sliced his leg open chasin' that possum back in '36, I brewed up a batch of rhuematiz medicine that cured him up better than a country ham! You'll need some dogbane, horsemint, snakewort, and a cat's hair to cook up some, but I kin git you the recipe if you like.

I'm so tired of Pittsburgh and Phildelphia running this state when it comes time for elections. We're a hunting/gun supporting state, yet Kane was elected...even AFTER coming out and saying she intended to close the loopholes on gun purchases and concealed carry permits. She stated that she was going to make it impossible for those in PA to get a FL concealed carry permit. PA's permit only covers five states. If we get a FL one, it's good in 35 states, I think.
She also stated that she'll never enforce the gay marriage law. It must be nice to pick and choose the laws that you've been duly elected to enforce. For those who think PA will flip back to red one day - keep dreaming. We've had too many progs move here, infecting us with higher taxes and stupid laws. They fled NYC for lower taxes and better living, yet have ruined northeastern and central eastern PA by demanding they have the same access to what they left behind - big houses, more shopping, etc. Well, that comes with a price and now we're the ones paying for it. Yes, I'm bitter. How could you tell? Posted by: PSUbrat at March 21, 2014 01:19 PM (+YdiO) 466
And just in case voter fraud is needed in PA, you have AG Kane on the left side. Not that any more voter fraud or blackpanthers are really needed in PA.

America hasn't been America since 2008.
I thought the threat was that one day the Democrats would go full Communist. I never imagined they'd go full Peronist, but here we are. Posted by: Rusty Nail at March 21, 2014 01:25 PM (WtVhX) 468
So, do PA have a recall or impeachment mechanism for AGs?
Yet another reason why Republicans should push voter fraud measures in every state they control. I bet a ton of these corrupt pols would've never gotten elected in fair elections. Posted by: Iblis at March 21, 2014 01:27 PM (zCnVx) 469
You know it would be one thing if her defense was "Those cases were not strong enough and I couldn't go forward with them," or "I didn't have the evidence for a conviction." That would at least be plausible, since we don't have all the information.
But just threatening people and saying "men are picking on me!" pretty much proves it was corruption. She's not even trying to defend the decisions. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at March 21, 2014 01:30 PM (zfY+H) 470
" Incredible. Incredible. "
= = = = = Not at all. Every day --literally EVERY! SINGLE! DAY!-- we are treated to more proof of the adage, "scratch a Liberal, find a Totalitarian". The funny thing is, they (apparently) are blind to it. Today -while they're in power- they think it's perfectly proper to say "sit down, shut up, and I'll tell you what to think." Next cycle, when things shift around, it'll be "NOOOO, you can't stifle my free expression! Truth-to-Power! I know my rights!!" Posted by: A_Nonny_Mouse at March 21, 2014 01:33 PM (4jAc3) 471
Come on, they're black politicians in a big urban environment. We can't expect better of them so prosecuting them for criminality is racism straight up.

If it is defamatory, sue them. Oh, right, as a public official you'd have to show actual malice in the publication of false material. If I were the paper, I'd say bring it. Discovery works both ways. And while an agency can ignore a FOIA request, it much more difficult to road block discovery requests. Posted by: I R A Darth Aggie © at March 21, 2014 02:40 PM (1hM1d) 473
She's probably jealous of all the scandals that the current administration shut down. She is probably showing off to prove that she can create a corrupt machine just like Daley, Clintons and the bamsters. After reading the story, it's no different than when the Bush administration started prosecuting panthers for voter intimidation and the bamster/holder crew dropped it.
