Paul Ryan: No, Seriously, You Guys Do Remember That Obama Cut Trillions From Medicare And Plans To Death-Panel Away Trillions More, Right?
Were You Thinking It Was A "All Just a Dream" Twist Ending? Because It Wasn't. That Shit Happened.

Again, I do not know why this is the comeback rather than the lead attack.

But either way, this is the message.

Media Thesaurus:

Republican Spending = "spending"

Democratic Spending = "investments"

Republican Cuts = "cuts"

Democratic Cuts = "reforms"

1 Well, from Ryan it's "the comeback" because he had to start with his plan. He put his plan out there, now he has to defend it. Thus, anything he says about it now is "the comeback."

Now, I do wish other Republicans (Rep. Barton? Senators Hutchison and Cornyn? Buehler? Buehler?) would go on the attack with this, but they won't because they're all cowards of the first order.

10 I was just coming over to post this: "Page 46 of Ryan's budget resolution reads,
"Starting in 2022, new Medicare beneficiaries will be enrolled in the
same kind of health care program that members of Congress enjoy. Future
Medicare recipients will be able to choose from a list of guaranteed
coverage options, and they will be given the ability to choose a plan
that works best for them."
When I have a chance I'm going to go through the speech and then try and re look at what was eventually passed and see if they are even speaking to each other.

I was looking for the comment by the president about Americans enjoying the same level as coverage that congress enjoys. I found a lot of very funny blog posts saying "hey do they look healthy to you?" and "maybe we don't want their insurance, we want better insurance, for a lesser cost".

12 I want him to say the word "lying" over and over and over. As in, "They are lying to you, because they think you won't call them on it."
They are lying to you when they say cutting Medicare bends the cost curve.
They are lying to you when they tell you there will not be rationing.
They are lying to you when they say you can keep your doctor.

37 That was a first-class interview that Ryan gave. His defense of his program, and explanation, was excellent. Sharp and strong.

It's just a shame that MediCAID wasn't even mentioned once, and that is the worst problem of all, from all respects, and even drives the others. It was great that Ryan pointed out the ObamaCare point, but he missed the layup to "future expansion of MediCAID", which had been his thing during the whole ObamaCare debate ... at least the financial part of it.

Ryan was very impressive, here.

??? What does "Most people these days have insurance and most people eventually think that they will rely on medicare." have to do with: "maybe we don't want their insurance, we want better insurance, for a lesser cost".

Or, at least, how does it disprove that that is a sign of the entitlement submentality?

Most people do have insurance. Most people who have to pay for things themselves, who also think about it, and who don't have the entitlement submentality (I know, rare combination, there) understand that "Better [than Congress'] insurance" doesn't come for a lesser Price (and can never come for a lesser "cost.")

Since you only posted snippets, I may be missing some context, but most people who make that statement seem to believe in the Insurance Fairy who can just magically bestow low cost, high value insurance on whomsoever she pleases.

Insurance 101: Providing insurance is the assumption by one party of another party's risk. To make such a thing profitable, the Insuring party must charge enough money over the life of the policy to a) offset maintenance (also called administrative) costs, b) offset costs incurred by the insured party, and c) pay any other financial obligations (say, to Stockholders, bond (or other debt) holders, employees, and vendors)- only after all of that is paid is anything that is left over "profit." If you can't do all of those and make enough to live on, you'll be going into some other business.

Posted by: ace at May 27, 2011 07:07 PM (nj1bB)

69 Ryan's plan ain't perfect, but anyone that wants to shoot it down damn well ought to have an alternative plan with details. I'm at least sure he sat down and crunched a bunch of numbers including demographic shifts to come up with his stuff.

Or maybe we could just run with the Barky budget plan, which went down to an unprecedented 0-97 defeat in the Senate. I think Pawlenty is off to a good start in telling hard truths but also will need some details. No more of the ephemeral Hope Change that Barky didn't live up to anyhow.

I think an honest and direct plan can beat the Dem bullshit non-plans by a country mile. Otherwise, we're pretty well screwed anyways.

Honestly, Ace, I haven't been in the threads as much as I'd like today, so I may have missed something, but "President Ryan" came up in the comments before the Palin comment. If "President X" is fair game, then everyone else who has their favorite for President IS going to post about why any other contender is a RINO/unelectable/not hot enough/whatever.

Take a deep breath, go pour yourself another mason jar of vodka, and mellow a little bit (on that one).

Now, if it really becomes a Palin thread jacking, I'll support you totally in whatever melt-down you have: I like Sarah Palin, and I want her to run for President, but you're right that the obsession is a little overboard.

90 i'll be the 1st to say it, I'm seeing a disturbing trend of commenters coming on here and saying if it's this guy or this guy I ain't voting. They're picking 4 years of Obama over their wish for an ideal person, we need to stop thinking like this, unless it's Ron fucking Paul there's no reason not to come out and voice a vote AGAINST one of the worst Presidents of all time
Your right. But part of that may be just the natural flow of how a primary works. Voters who have a candidate picked this early in the process invest alot emotionally in that candidate. The disappointment of said candidate failing makes that voter lash out, particularly at the person who bested their chosen candidate.
I'd vote for a ham sandwich over Obama. I would probably even vote for Ron Paul over Obama..........but I would really hate myself for it.
Hell........I'd even vote for Alan Keyes over Obama. Then apologize to all of my children for doing it.

114 Medicare/Medicaid should provide reasonable heath care and treatment and insure that the elderly are treated respectfully and with caring and kindness. It is not an unlimited check to keep someone alive another 5,10,30 days - that is wrong to ask of others. If you happen to have a few million of your own to spend, then fine, it should be your right to do so. It is not right to ask others to fund millions for a treatment putting off death for a few months, it just doesn't work mathematically when you work the numbers of 300-400 million times millions of dollars! We are all going to die, we cannot ask the living to give up everything for the dying. And I feel the same way about spending 10's of millions to keep some deformed babies alive, if the family wishes to pick up the tab, then fine, but we cannot do that for everyone!

I think Paul Ryan has to begin sharing everything in his head with the American people. I feel as though there is so much in there and he doesn't know how to get it all out. My dad tells me that most people bought something called "major medical insurance" in case of a health emergency. He tells me that all of a sudden employers began handing out "health insurance" as a perk to get you to work for them. He said, in the beginning, they paid for the insurance. It was a very simple process he tells me. When we were little my dad would "submit a claim" with the attached doctor bills and receive a check from the insurance company. He then tells me that all of a sudden you weren't submitting a claim, your doctor was submitting it for you and you were suddenly getting coverage for drugs. Then he says all of a sudden there were small deductibles for the doctor visit and the drugs and some other plans limited the doctors you could go to see. He then tells me that a couple of years ago his employer said "this medical insurance is killing us, every employee has to contribute" and now he's paying most of the insurance bill and he has some of my sibs on there too. If you examine the story you realize that probably the same thing has happened with medicare and medicade. It starts out with one purpose and morphs into something else.

Back to Paul Ryan. Since I don't think he does anything half assed and since he took quite a long time to come out with his plan, I suspect that he could tell you everything wrong with the "health care industry" and "drug providing industry" if you could sit down with him for a couple of hours. And, I'm willing to bet that he has some solutions. But, some of what he has to say might include agreeing with democrats on some issues. My dad tells me that is the way it used to be. He says republicans and democrats would work together on something they were passionate about for the good of the country. I feel like that doesn't happen any more. I feel like people are so worried about watching their every word that they don't get to say what they really want to say. I think, for the good of this country, Paul ryan may have to educate the American people, not only about medicare and medicade but about the true state of health care and the drug industry and how their lobbyists, remember BO said he would limit their effect and then hired them, are impacting everything, but mostly cost.

I know you guys feel that people shouldn't expect health insurance or medicare or medicade but it's become part of the fabric of life and your doctor is now a part of the "health care industry" which contributes to the GDP. Same thing is happening with education. So we might not want it but it's here and we have to deal with it. That's why I like Ryan, he deals with the reality as it is.

136 123: Yeah, one thing I always noticed at work was that I could tell who were Democrats, just because they were the sleaziest, most selfish, most vulgar people there. Someone refers to someone as a "n!99&r"? Democrat every time, and not because the Democrats actively sought out racists, but rather because Democrats are just crude, vulgar criminals who talk like that. Someone bragging about cheating on his wife? Democrat. Someone stealing from the company? Democrat. If God has any justice, he'll give an automatic heaven pass to anyone who parks his car on a Democrat.

Posted by: Ken at May 27, 2011 07:31 PM (dvQqE)

137 How does someone this "on it" vote for TARP and AIG? I know every candidate probably has votes they'd rather not defend (except President Present, of course), but Ryan made 2 big miscues in his area of expertise.
Yeah but those were mere votes for stuff that actually happened, and these are Plans, so these count, and those don't.
Ryan's supporters have a delusional Celebrity Obsession with him, and no serious political preferences or opinions, so it's what he says on TV (except when he says he's for bailouts, amnesty, raising taxes to WWII levels, etc.) that counts, not the things he actually does (unless he does them on TV with Bill Clinton, who's dreamy).

Ryan should push on with his plan, but the real job of all the other GOPers on the Hill is to repeal ObamaCare. They have let that go on a couple of CRs and an old budget, already. Now, they're going to whiff on a debt-limit bill. What Ryan is doing is parallel and separate from the necessary ObamaCare repeal effort, which should be first and foremost in the minds of the GOP. It IS why they were elected, in a nutshell. It's a question of what the GOP should be focused on, not Ryan, who is doing his thing well.

Not even Republicans unanimously support Paul Ryan's plans. That's why his plan was defeated in the United States Senate ... ending his plan's chance.

Comeback? He lost. There is no comeback.

(1) Between both houses, the Republican budget plan only lost 9 votes. Usually the party in power bleeds more votes but they didn't this time. The Republicans did an excellent job here, especially in the Senate where they weren't even whipped.

(2) The plan was defeated the Senate because it's controlled by Democrats. These same Democrats have chosen to let the system collapse so that they can impose even more socialism on Americans.

(3) Again, the budget had overwhelmingly support from Republicans. As to why more of them aren't as vocal, recent history shows that Republicans are not only frightened to criticizing Democrats but also afraid of their own shadows. Politicians also don't like taking risks because it endangers their cushy jobs and posh lifestyles.

Yet...

(5) If there was a time to bring this forward, it's now. The Tea Party freshmen and a number of House conservatives are supportive and willing to fight. We also know that entitlements are a large part of what is and will bankrupt this nation and we need to do something about it. The difficulty here is that the Rs were given the tools to properly explain this; it's more a matter of collectively getting the message out there in such a way that it will be heard by the average American.

Even so, I was still excited to get them on my feet. The cheap skechers shape ups come with a detailed exercise guide and a DVD that explains the technology behind the shoes, some simple moves you can do with the shoes along with some short exercise routines you can do in skechers shoes. I read through the basic instructions quickly and tried them on. I have a wider type of foot and I usually wear between an 8.5 – 9.5 in shape ups 2011, and the 9.5 in the skechers fitness shoes fit well.

184 You really get what you pay for with the Rosetta stone language courses . If you’re looking for other benefits, consider that fact that you don’t have to commute to college in order to learn a foreign language. Rosetta stone’s lack of compatibility with PDA’s is not a very serious drawback, especially if you don’t want to drive or walk to school anyway. If you intend to study a language entirely at home, then Rosetta stone is the best alternative to sitting in a class room. Another benefit of utilizing this powerful language learning tool is in preparation for a college course. You can use the software to learn the language and then fly through your college course, get a letter A grade, and apply the credits toward a degree or certificate. I think you will have interests to see rosetta stone discount
