John Cornyn: You Know Who I'd Really Like To Run For The Senate? Joe Scarborough

The genius who picked Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio is back to his old tricks in the Sunshine State.

Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), who heads the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), told The Hill on Thursday that he has talked to Scarborough a couple times about a Senate bid. And he indicated he’s still working on persuading the MSNBC host to run for the upper chamber.

“I’d be delighted to talk to him a third time,” Cornyn said.

Fantastic, just what we need...to run one of the original No Labels gang. What? David Frum didn't return Cornyn's calls?

Here's Scarborough talking about his cross aisle outreach to his good friend...Maxine Waters.

Waters was considered one of the more extreme members by conservative groups. She certainly played to type in one memorable Judiciary hearing at which she suggested that all Republicans supporting a certain piece of legislation were racist.

It was too much for me to take.

After the committee broke for a floor vote, I walked over to the Los Angeles liberal’s seat and began talking to her. Waters collected her papers and started walking toward the House floor. For the next 10 minutes, we exchanged tough words that neither of us really heard, but I kept following her. By the time we got on the floor to vote, she turned to me and a smile spread across her once stern face.

“You know what, Scarborough. You’re crazy!” Waters said as she turned and walked off.

I spent the next few months seeking her out on the House floor. I would hug her during important votes after she let me know it made her nervous.

“Stop, Scarborough! You’re going to hurt my reputation back home!” she would shout in mock horror. She would return the favor during votes in which conservatives would more likely be watching.

Ten years later, when I return to the House floor, there are few members of Congress I enjoy seeing more than Maxine Waters. The fact that our friendship began in a heated exchange makes it more special.

Waters slanders Republicans in public and Joey chats her up in private. Awww...Adorable.

Seriously, I think it's important not to let politics get in the way of personal relationships. Life is too short and politics isn't a major part of a healthy and full life. That said, when you're an elected member of Congress or you want to be a leader of your party, you can't let slurs like Waters' go with a shrug and a "Oh that Maxine. What a scamp!". You have to challenge people like Waters when they slander you and your supporters like that.

It's the same with guys like Orin hosta and Ted Kennedy. It's fantastic they were such chums but it never stopped Kennedy from slandering Republicans and conservatives whenever he needed to. What good are guys like hosta and Scarborough if they don't stand up for their supporters and make people like Kennedy and Waters pay a price for slandering them? That's not personal, that's business. Democrats know that, we don't need Republicans who don't.

Scarborough for Senate? Pass.

Well ... I'd have to rationally assess that the probability that I am an alien parading around as a human (sort of) is about 2.613% - small, though not insignificant - and the probability that I'm retarded is, safely, 59.332% ... so I would say that my Senate candidacy is mostly based on the remaining 38%, give or take.

16 Republican leadership is kind of like the old joke, military inteligence. When will they learn that we are not interested in rearranging the deck chairs, but building a new boat based on the actual words of the constitution. I walked around my house this evening and failed to identify anything the government does not have some tie to in some way from the crapper to the bulbs.
"I,m from the government and I'm here to help" is something that should be words of elimination from office. 'I'm here to eliminate and shrink and stop every form of big government" is the required language.

Disagree. For these politicians, politics should be a major part of your life. They should believe passionately in their principles. And while friendship with an opponent who is acting in good faith is fine, tell me which of those assholes is acting in good faith.

Hatch's friendship with Kennedy made him look like an asshole. This is the same Kennedy who tried to conspire with the Soviets to alter the outcome of the '84 election. The same Kennedy...screw it, you get the picture. Ted Kennedy could not have been acting in good faith. How deep can Hatch's convictions be if he hung around with that scumbag for decades?

32 Sen. John Cornyn , how is this guy still the lead person for Senate 2012 election committee , Joe Scarborough
I would for vote for Obama before I would vote for Scaborugh.

How can the republican leadership be this insular and hmmm.. how should I say it, stupid.

I could do a 2 minute search and find a dozen quotes of Scarbourgh criticizing republican policies, leadership, putting down Bush and republicans, and dozen quotes praising democrats and Obama.
Scarborgh would get slaughtered in the primary and not win the general election, I doubt the grass roots or conservatives would even vote for him in the general election, to put it simply he's a buffoon , who feeds the liberal agenda whenever possible for no other reason them to further his career.

I can't even stand when a republican goes on his show, they treat them so disrespectfully, Governor Walker was treated like a defendant being questioned or they talk around them as if they aren't there for a couple minutes and then ask a question His show can make jokes for hours about Republican politicians, but can't find anything funny in dingy Reid, wacked out Peolsi, golfer - chief Obama and or the rest of the drips that make up democrat party.

Don't forget that my (new) state is taking GOP refugees like myself from northeastern socialistic states in record numbers.

Well, if we're going to get fucked over anyway, we may as well turn it into a good cause. As long as 'insiders' like Cornhole are running the party, we're going to keep on getting politicians like Mercowshit, Snowjob, McLame, and all of the other 'kinder, gentler' fucks that can't wait to reach across the aisle. Have you ever heard of a dem reaching across the aisle? They won't even give republicans a reach-around when they're butt-fucking them (which seems to be most of the time).

This last election showed some promise. If conservatives can pick up more seats in the House, take over the Senate, and get rid of RINOs like Cornwipe, we may be able to save the party.

I have now used up enough of my mad that I don't think I'll need to swear again for a while.

38 This is the same Kennedy who tried to conspire with the Soviets to alter the outcome of the '84 election.

In fairness, this fact made pretty much everybody in the Senate and the media look like an asshole. I at least like to consider myself a political junkie (though I was still a kid when this came out in '92), so it stunned me that I didn't even learn about this until a few years ago. Why the Republicans did not bother to bring up this fact after every single time Kennedy did something antagonistic absolutely baffles me: "Oh Ted Kennedy? You mean the guy who tried to sell us out to the Soviets in the 80s?" If you have to work with the guy, okay, but that doesn't stop him from whacking you for much less.

As a testament to what wimps we are, the only reason this doesn't count as Exhibit A is that there are so many other examples. If this were a Republican, there's no question that he would not have stayed in office after it came out. There's no question an investigation would have been launched against him. It's ridiculous that our side afforded him an ounce of respect for a single day, much less years after this happened. The media and the Democrats at least have an excuse. They're on his side. There's no justification for us.

While I think she was completely off in harping on this yesterday (we finally showed some spine for once; offer a "congrats" instead of using it as an opportunity attack our own side), this is also what Coulter was getting at yesterday. We are continually offered up multiple opportunities to whack the other side in these fights and continually let them go. If we aren't going to excuse it with Joe Scarborough and Maxine Waters on MSNBC, we shouldn't excuse among people who are now purporting to represent and fight for us.

The state conservative organization is impressive. The Tea Party Movement is strong.
The demographics, not so much. If this is how Republicans win in a midterm election with intense enthusiam gaps, I'm not so optimistic. The state of the nation politically is going to hinge on whether or not Florida and Texas turn into California. I expect it to happen in the next 10-15 years given the demographics and ages of the two states.

79 Ben: "It was a democrat slaughter down there, why in the world would we run a RINO"

Because the Tea Party contingent is getting uppity. You think the DC GOP has learned anything yet... other than perpetuating-big-guv-at-a-slower-rate is hitting bumpy waters right now and must be navigated despite the rogues?

80 FUBAR,

Yeah, I posted before reading your comment upthread. Normally I scan 'em all, but the default that we should accept legislative glad-handing and back-patting because it helps the atmosphere ticks me off no end. I had to blurt out with as little thought as possible as fast as possible. Next time I'll just say: "See FUBAR."

88 Hmm. I'd take Scarborough over Dumbfuck Patty Murray or Mari Ne'er do Well, but he'd have to move out here to the Soviet of Washington.
In FL? I can't see that happening.

89 Cynthia McKinney? Hmmmm. Good idea. She's a level-headed moderate. Thanks for the input.

90 Cornyn's getting primaried--even if he does a 180 tomorrow and starts making Barry Goldwater look like Nelson Rockefeller.

91 Wait. It's time for me to put on some music and churn da butta.

Posted by: Okie at March 11, 2011 01:02 AM (xx42+)

92 Cornyn is just kind of stupid at times. I don't get him. Either stupid or working on killer plans. And it's never the latter.

Posted by: rdbrewer at March 11, 2011 01:07 AM (xx42+)

93 Dude, I swear. If he has a primary opponent next time he's up, that's who I'm voting for. Fuck this guy.

P.S. If there are any other Texans that read this, do check out Michael Williams, former Railroad Commissioner running for KBH's vacated seat.

97 Seriously, I think it's important not to let politics get in the way of personal relationships. Life is too short and politics isn't a major part of a healthy and full life.
Sorry. He chose to be a Senator. He doesn't get to be a regular person.

101 I think that The Hill is stirring up trouble. I went to the NRSC site to find Cornyn's email so I could give him a ration of shit, and there are several tweets there denying that he's trying to recruit anybody. If you read the article, it is full of innuendo.

102 Yeah, right, until ol' Mornin' Joe makes it on the ballot... then Drew, Ace, et al will be screaming about how important it is to elect him in the name of unity or some such bullshit.
