What I'd love to see is a movement to return California to a part-time legislature. That would be an excellent start, although it will never happen.

I'm a litigator and give speeches/arguments all the time. =Any professional speech maker knows that, on occasion, you will completely forget what you are talking about and where you are in your speech (large breasted jurors are my weakness). To solve this, I always boil my speeches down to 4 or 5 keywords (each keyword reminds me of a large chunk of my speech - in the order I want to cover them), and put those on a piece of paper. If I ever lose my train of thought, I just glance on the sheet and will recognize which topics I've covered, and which ones I have not. That allows me to figure out which general topic I'm covering at the moment, and I can get back into the speech without starting over.

I think she knew exactly what she was doing. She was very deliberate when she looked at her hand during the QA and made no attempt to hide it, and there's no way she needed notes for three simple talking points when she knew the questions in advance, especially considering she'd just spoken for forty minutes with only a couple of note cards. I had note cards that paralleled the flow of topics that were required by each school. Not all schools were the same and not all schools wanted the information in the same order due to time constraints and level of complexity. No school was the same and no grade was the same.. so yes, I made 2 cards to watch the flow for that particular school and grade. It was paramount to what they desired.. But I didn't write the shit ON MY HAND.. and it wasn't because I couldn't recall the topics. They were specifically geared to the context in which I was speaking.
I can't imagine what kind of words I would have had to hear if I did something like this while trying to maintain a professional appearance..

way back in high school we were taught that you're always better off using bullet points just to keep your thoughts in order when giving a speech/debate than reading off a sheet (uh, or teleprompter).
this whole thing actually points to palin as being a skilled orator able to coherently express thoughts without the help of a teleprompter. why the left thought they could make fun of her for this (nobody ever writes notes on their hands! noooobody!!!!) is beyond me.
