Ace of Spades Pet Thread

Maya-Sporting-Dog.jpg

Happy Saturday! Welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Glad you stopped by today. Sit and stay, awhile. Enjoy the world of animals for a while.

A Little of This. A Little of That

Some dogs are just plain scaredy cats. Is your dog or cat afraid of something that it shouldn't be?

How anyone can do this to an animal is beyond my comprehension. Fortunately there is a happy ending to this cruel story.

An eye for an eye Balls for balls I say is an adequate punishment. Home neutering is not recommended.

Meet The PetMorons

unnamed.jpg

Lurker here. Here are our two Scottie rescues, Angus, sitting up, and Maddie, laying down. We are not sure how old Angus is but guess around 9 or 10. Maddie is a foster failure as she and Angus seemed to really bond immediately, so we kept her. She is 6 years old. Love the site and especially the pet thread.
Holly

That is a Happy Ending Story Holly. Thanks for sharing. They look adorable.

jello the cat.jpg

My son named her Jello for her tendency, as a kitten, to tumble off of whatever flat surface she happened to fall asleep on. She is part long-haired tuxedo and part dog. She comes when called, greets us at the door, and plays fetch with my hair ties.

Jello is a very sweet and friendly kitty, very patient with our (handsy) children and other than her penchant for stealing all my hair ties and rubber bands whenever she gets the chance, she is a wonderful pet for our family.

Thank you again for the pet thread.
Long time lurker,
~ Mrs. Reeves

Jello? By chance a Lutheran kitteh?

zuke.jpg

I'm Matt, sent in a puppy photo of Zuke at 6 months when he was approximately 30 lbs.

This is Zuke now 8 months later at 74lbs.

We go for a combinations of bike rides and walks everyday which add up to about 3.6 miles a day. Some how after all this he still finds enough energy to run through the house and yard like the devil is chasing him. He also makes sure he is always vigilant for any of those sneaky leaves that fall to the ground and might be plotting to do harm to his domain.

Besides being a "crazy boxer" he is extremely intelligent, very good with commands and a big mush to anyone who might be fortunate enough to cross his path.

Thanks Matt, Zuke is a fine looking dog.

caligirlowls.png

MH,

I forgot I had this pic. These are the owlets that were born near my house. Their names are estrella and suerte.

There are owlets in my trees again this year. They are just branching and I can only find one. Hopefully I'll get some good pics of the new babies.

CaliGirl

Owls? Not necessarily a pet, but they look like Morons don't they? Caligirl quite the animal lover!

gunny.jpg

The following comes from antisocialist.

This is my fur-nephew, Gunny. He's part shi tzu (spelling?) and part terrier of some sort. I thought my big Lab was spoiled...Gunny gets grilled chicken for dinner every.single.day. Sister in law says he has a sensitive stomach, but he's her baby so I kinda think she'd give it to him anyway.

chloe.jpg

Meet Chloe, our 7yo Red Heeler Mix. She loves to play with her big squeaky frog....she attacks it like it is alive and she is taking care of business. When she is finished she looks back at us like "See what I did...I did that" and is happy as can be. Funny thing is that she is so sweet and wouldn't hurt a fly, which makes us laugh even more. Love this thread and look forward to it every Saturday because I love all the petmorons and their pets..lol. I'll send an update on "Poor Puppy" from a few weeks back...she is doing much better.
Keep up the awesome work ya'll, MrsTxEngr.

What a happy go lucky looking doggeh!

chipster1.jpg

chipster2.jpg

Hi, love the pet thread .
Long time lurker here occasionally posting as Chipster . These are two of my dogs.

Jeez Chipster, doggeh furniture? How mistreated.

teenymeeny.jpg

Last but not least this week from Gushka.

This is my hairless cat Teenie Meanie. Best cat in the world. Lymphoma took her too soon, but this little chatterbox was described by my dad as "quite possibly the world's most perfect pet."

Losing her was one of the single worst days of my life, and Even harder on Grimmy than it was on me. She was more like a little alien roomate, who rode on mt shoulder and talked on everyone and snitched constantly, than a cat. The current cats are wonderful kitties, but she is the yardstick by which all Best cats are measured in my mind.

Personally, I know exactly what you speak of.

*****

Quite the assortment of animals today!!! Thank you all for your submissions. As we have said before, we can't do this without you. Thanks again.

If you have something you wish to share your submission can go to petmorons at gmail dot com.

Here is hoping that you and your pets have a great week!!

A cat "greeting" you at the door is not dog like. They flop on their side, then you rub their belly, then they bite your hand and start scratching your arm with their hind paws.

Not all of them.

My cat (a rescue who is not really a lap cat at all) will flop on her side, and let me rub her belly. She really seems to like it.

In fact, she's never bitten me.

21 #WeirdCritterExperience of the week:

We're in town, at the large building warehousing too much stuff. We'd had all the doors open during the day to air out the mustiness. Now the place was closed up and we're packing to go home when Milady says:

We have a bit of a problem... (always great to hear, waiting for the punchline/lede/other shoe) We have a (2nd) cat in the place.

The regular office cat, Merlin, sometimes gets to go out for brief forays, and has been seen with a neighbor cat - presumably feral. Apparently, while the doors were open, Feral got in.

We searched the place as best we could, but there are a brazillion hidey-holes. I caught a glimpse of Feral just once, dashing across the room. We had a door open for Feral to exit, but never saw him leave.

Eventually, we just closed the place up and went home. Went back the next day, opened the place up and continued inspection. Never saw him again.

Presumably, it snuck out the door at some point. Catfood consumption and litter box analysis (if that matters) suggest we're just down to Merlin again, but we don't really know!

What I do know is, we've got to clear out that place.

24 That second link, about the poodle puppy? Be very skeptical of any source that tries to put the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in a good light. They are flat-out evil, and kill many animals. They are opposed to pet ownership on principle, and also to owning livestock.

It's a scam, and the managers of the "charity" have become very wealthy.

26 Another great pet thread with fantastic pets.

HiJax (male) and HiJinx (female have been spayed and neutered so it's time to start introducing them to the outside.

I left the dogs out and closed up the barn so the kitties had free run of the barn.

Jinx is out the door like a shot , smelling and checking everything over.
Jax walks up to the door, looks around and said No Thanks.
He turned around and went right back inside.

There is a popular cat toy called "Da Bird" - it looks like a small feather duster on the end of a fishing line. Cats love it - you might be able to acclimatize it using that.

It is hysterical what sets them off. When my daughter was young she had a ton of stuffed animals. One was a large mouse that wore wire framed glasses. Our dog, Sam, was terrified of that one stuffed animal and would go to any and all lengths to avoid getting anywhere near it. Nothing else bothered him.

Yesterday we were on the road in West Texas and went through the Border Patrol inspection stop where they have their Malinois dog sniff every vehicle. As we approached, the dog was leading its handler off into the grass away from the cars, and I told my husband that dog is a female because she's taking forever to find the perfect spot to squat.

When we got to the head of the line, my husband pointed at the dog and asked the BP agent, "is she off taking a poop or what?"

I face-palmed, but the agent laughed. Knowing my husband, he could have said something much worse, I kept telling myself.

45 For all those afraid of the Teenie Meanie... i have a story about her sister Skindy. I was having my place remodeled and brought up to date, as i bought the second farm as a fixer upper and while Grimmy was going to Iraq i decided to surprise him with a fresh look around the place (Well, truthfully there was a huge pipe leak in the main wet wall, and it flooded, and wreaked the whole half of the house) There were a whole crew of Hispanic workmen working on the new bathrooms and the new tile floors and update to the kitchen, one of whom was afraid of cats. Most of the time he was not aware of the cats, because i had them locked up while they were working in one room or another, and he never saw them. But the boss had. Skindy was like Mr Bigglesworth and we called her La Cortina because she was a love slut. But her face was MUCH fiercer than the Mean Bean, whose eyes as you can see are very round. They were like slits of blue fire, and she was very wrinkly. The workmen were convinced i was a Bruja, because at the time i had a pet crow and always a few black cats in the barn. But also i am sure the little hairless housebuddies didnt help.

the scardey man was working on something in the kitchen and i dont know what possessed the foreman... but he got Skindy, and gently set her down. She was a very friendly cat so she immediately trotted over to the new person, stood on her hind legs and cheeped a friendly greeting. He sees this little pink inhuman homunculus squinting up at him, little pink grabby hands reaching out (she wanted to be picked up.)

"CHUPACABRA!!!!!!!" he yelled, she skittered back to me and jumped into my arms, and the poor man ran out of the house and jumped into his truck and sped off.

I never saw him again, and Louie said he never worked for him after that. he had brought him to work on the house of a bruja with a baby chupacabra as a pet. Pretty soon everyone in town knew. I heard the story from the feed store guys.

but mostly, because of that the mexican people in my neighborhood leave me alone.

forever after, we called them the baby Chupacabras and my dad still tells people that today. They feel like really muscular babies and they use their front paws just like monkey hands. Both like to ride on your shoulder draped across your neck, and slept in my arms like babies. The Mean bean was daddys little girl and loved Grimmy from the moment she arrived. Skindy was my baby, and always wanted to be inside my shirt, or with Grimmy's white cat, Sumomo. (Plum blossom, in Japanese) Mo was our most reliable kitty what plays fetch. Please remember guys too many crunchytreats can give them stones. Training him to do tricks (he did a lot of them, Grim gave him a lot of treats) So be careful guys if your cat has kidney issues at all.

63 I had to laugh at the 'scaredy dogs' in the link. Our largest toy poodle (all of ten pounds and his nickname was Megapuppy) was afraid of squeak toys. He was even as a small pup and it never got better over 18 years. His smaller brother and sister attacked them.

All our poodles disliked thunder. A good loud storm sent them sailing onto our laps (assuming they weren't there to start with) where they tried to borrow even deeper until the storm passed. Of course, after the storm they wanted to run in the back yard and splash in the puddles. Know how much water poodle fur can hold? A LOT. Their preferred method of drying off was to sit on us and let our clothes soak up the moisture. We learned to keep towels handy.

So, I've been watching the live stream of President Trump's amazing visit to Saudi Arabia, but wanted to jump in on the pet thread to share one thing.

Despite my loathing of ABC, more so since they canceled Tim Allen's terrific show, I inadvertently watch the premier of Downward Dog the other night. Funniest fuckin' thing I've seen in ages. They're showing it again tonight at 8:30 and it's also available on demand (or whatever). Highly recommend!! Not sure they can sustain this level of hilarity but the pilot is WELL worth a look for any animal lover.

74 I love both cats and dogs, and no one can deny that dogs are adoring creatures that can be trained to do numerous useful things to help humanity.

However, cats are just more badass, IMHO.

They have that whole "killing machine" thing going on, aloofness, and, their purring can help the healing process.

Also, go to YouTube and search "cat vs." and you'll find lots of fun things.

Dogs= team players
Cats= snipers

77 We have owls in the neighborhood. Hear them all the time but rarely see them, which is too bad as I find them fascinating. But after more than thirty years in the house, I can say our area seldom has a rodent or snake problem.

Caliber-the-dog-who-is-staying-here while the retro-kid is deployed is very food driven.

He has put on 10 lbs. He spends the entire day grazing and pooping purple-black.

the kitchen floor is covered every few days inpurple paw prints.
And the couch. And the bed.

damn tree. it's the tree's fault. not the pupper's.

89 HI guys. To those who were following, Chamberlain passed early in the morning on Mother's Day. My mom and I took him to the clinic that put down her cat years ago. We had a really nice day, went to the neighborhood where I grew up and walked the park by my high school where I have lots of good memories. Emergency Vetranary Clinic of Tualatin is spectacular. Chamberlain was sort of the last thing in my life that I was hanging onto. Now that he's gone I have this feeling of relief and freedom. Like I can start my new life now. Long story, but I've been sort of paralyzed since my divorce a year ago. Now I really feel like a new man.

--R.I.P.

I remember when my former friend/colleague had to euthanize his beagle. She had a huge tumor in her tummy --medically speaking benign, but in reality anything but. Before going to the vet he walked her and let her splash in the Red River, which she always loved. I still miss that doggie too, and I was not even nearly as close to her.

96 Interesting sighting by our neighbor the other day.

He was able to video a fox trotting down our street in the early AM.

I love the owls. GHO do not build their own nests. We had the pair nest near my house in an old sparrow hawk nest last year. It fell apart a little before the babies should have fledged.
We bought a bucket truck and the guy here built a nest and wired it in the same spot. They used it this year. I am fascinated watching the owls. We have two owlets again this year.
Next year I want to put a camera above the nest. Hopefully we make it happen.

We also have 3 barn owls around my house too.
