Here's an interesting Weekly Standard article that may be describing peak insanity on our campuses. I find it hard to believe that it can get much worse now that we have a president who is curiously unforgiving when it comes to virulent anti-Americanism. Whether that attitude trickles down into the academy remains to be seen.
The Roots of Campus Leftism: Who are the oppressors and who the oppressed?
"Inclusivity" and "diversity" are favorite terms on campus, but they call for a striking amount of exclusion. "Inclusivity" excludes significant groups like political conservatives, traditional Catholics, evangelical Christians, and Orthodox Jews, since views held by these groups are considered bigoted and ignorant. Whites, men, and heterosexuals are often attacked as groups and reminded of their "privileged" status and resulting inability to understand others. "Inclusivity" applies only to supposedly oppressed groups like blacks, women, Hispanics, homosexuals, bisexuals, and transsexuals. Their defenders encourage them to engage in identity politics, but only to emphasize their oppression, not their achievements. "Tolerance" means avoiding not only criticism of these groups, but any speech or behavior that might offend them or their defenders, though the words and actions that they find offensive often change and are sometimes disputed by the groups themselves. While any criticism of the favored groups is forbidden, even farfetched criticisms of whites, men, and heterosexuals are encouraged, especially when accompanied by accusations—"racism," "sexism," "homophobia"—that are plainly meant to be offensive to dis-favored groups.I have a bunch of recent graduates in my family, and most are mortified by the behavior of the SJWs. The problem I think is that while they are mortified, the paradigm has been shifted on campus, and it will take hard work over a generation to shift it back toward a more pro-freedom attitude.

I remember once, maybe 35 years ago, when I was still stupid I was taking the country road back home after a night in the bar. You know those signs that tell you that you're coming to a T intersection? Well, I could see one getting closer and closer and then the don't you know I drove straight into. I left my car in the ditch and walked home.

I've driven through a couple of blizzards when I couldn't see the end of the hood. One time I was getting disoriented because of the blowing snow so I pulled over to what I thought was the right shoulder to get bearings--stepped out of the door into the left ditch.

We he first ran the thing, he got up to 70MPH in first fucking gear. That's how high high it would rev.
Anyway, the speedometer pegged at 85, like it did in those days. Once it was broken in, we picked a race with some idiot in a Porsche with his girlfriend in with him one Friday.
Near the end of it, we were going down I-386 at 2AM doing God knows what speed, racing with a Porsche.
It was blowing his mind how that "family car" was keeping up with him.And to further show off, he started whipping back and forth from lane to lane at high speed.
I screamed to Eddie, "Don't try it fool!". I'm not, asshole, he said.

It has to be that time I spend New Years Eve with some college buddies. After 4 hours of "sleep," I woke up with an intense fixed idea: it was time to drive home.
No hangover, just still drunk from the night before.
The roads were empty at 7 am on New Years Day.
And like a complete 20-something idiot, I drove at 90 mph the whole time I was on the freeway.

RE: Driving in blinding snow.
One day, just after night fall, trying to drive home in the dark. Snowbanks along side the road are exactly the height of your average car window (three feet? four feet? Whatever)
But the wind is blowing across the road and whipping snow off the tops of the snow banks at exactly the right height to be blinding. It was a blinding wall of white that reflected your headlights.
I literally could not see a foot past the front of the car. Couldn't see the snow banks, couldn't see the road. Total white out conditions. Twenty five miles to get home.
Like the Mark Twain quip about fog on the river --

I took my 1970 something Honda Civic 4 wheeling on the logging trails with some drunk freinds near the family cabin. At some point in the process the muffler caught a rock or stump tore off and put a small hole in the gas tank. Further down the trail the Civic got stuck. While trying to rock it free a backfire out of the exhaust pipe lit the leaking gas. One of my buddy's in the car said "man it bright out huh.. oh fuck the cars on fire. No one hurt and the forest didn't burn so lucky there. We did have to winch the recovery tractor to get to and from where the Civic burned. Oh and cars don't blow up but they do shoot flames and burn real hot.

Yes, just be aware that it is possibly the only series that starts kind of horrible and gets better and better as it goes on.
First season is mostly crap, except for a couple episodes (PK Tech Girl, The earth episode, and the finale.)
Second season is very uneven until the second half, which ends amazingly well.
Third season is fantastic. Just fantastic. But it earns the first episode title "Season of Death."
Fourth and final season is very good, with a couple of the best episodes of sci-fi I have ever seen.
The mini series is not great because they tried to condense a 22 episode season into 4 hours.

That's great advice. Working from 7am to 2pm in Michigan and driving to Pennsylvania for my sister's wedding the next day. Around 10pm I was sucking down coffee and cigarettes and blasting Hardcore History podcasts on I-80, with mountains on one side and 500 foot cliffs on the other, dodging semi trucks and drifting through blinding rain squalls. At one point, I called mom and my aunt and said that I might just fold the seats down in the hatchback and have a nap at a rest area.
Around midnight I got off the highway and got gas around Berwick or Shickshinny and got onto some 35mph mountain roads, it was dry, the sky was clear, and suddenly I perked up and it turned into a professional driver on a closed course, do not attempt sort of thing. The interstate was a nightmare, but give me a manual AWD on windy mountain roads and I'm happy

Ralph Stanley was one of the greats for sure. His brother got the conventionally excellent voice, but Ralph Stanley got the ability to convey emotion straight to the listener. One listen to "O Death" and "Wildwood Flower" from his live album would convince anyone of that. I seem to always have a problem with dust in the room when listening to "Wildwood Flower."

Flash is the only one of the non-Netflix superhero TV shows that I watched a lot of, mainly because the writers weren't afraid to show the lead having fun being a superhero. Though I haven't really bothered with the current season.

It was a good concept. Would have done better to come out around 10 years later than it did. The WWII motif in space was well done.

I'm on the highway and it's stopped (big wreck a mile up). I'm working my way, crossing lanes, to the exit ramp. Checking for the next move an 18 wheeler is pulling up slow so I think he's, as they usually will, cutting me some slack. At the point where my PU is entering his lane but my trailer mostly in the other lane he accelerates and wedges his nose at about the juncture of the PU and the trailer. (T bone without the kiss) I can't move forward because my trailer will catch his bumper or fender. He lays on his horn. I put my cautions on. I've never been in a situation like this - flummoxed. After a minute, I decide to back up a little (in the middle of a highway) it will clear the trailer and leave. His HORN is still BLOWING. I ease back, achieve a little clearance and the asshole closes the gap. Effectively three lanes are blocked. My original lane, the lane the 18 wheeler is in and the third in which he moved into a little when he closed the gap.
I'm thinking WTF? etc. And, I think, I read it here, the first person to call 911 is the victim. This guy is in no mood for compromise. I call 911.
On my 3rd or 5th sentence of explanation he's
released and the 18 wheeler is coming around. The call to 911 is cancelled and the trip is resumed.
Damnedest highway confrontation ever.

In college, I had a VW Squareback which made me popular when people wanted to move (and moving was a common occurrence when it came to off-campus housing).
So this one time, I helped a friend move a double mattress. We placed the mattress on top of the car and we held on using our arms out the windows, my friend with his right hand (he was a lefty) holding the mattress down while I used my left hand. Now I did mention this was a VW, so stick shift. We're driving along town streets, holding a mattress on the roof and I'm steering with my right hand, which means I can't shift gears. So I'd hit the clutch and tell my friend 'FIRST!' or 'SECOND' or whatever gear was necessary and he did the actual gear shifting with his left hand. We managed to move that mattress without any accidents or moving violation tickets.
I'm sure bongs were involved somehow.

I watched the first episode of Supergirl. There was some potential there, but not enough to make me interested. And there were little niggling things that got me worried, like the fact that the bad guy in the first episode was a blatant male chauvinist, and at the end of the episode we learned that his boss was a woman.
Uh-huh.
I also watched the cross-over episode with The Flash. Here's a hint, writers. If you're having a character from another TV show guest star in the episode, don't make it the episode the leads (and said guest star) are completely useless in stopping the bad guys. Though that wasn't the only bit of writing stupidity in the episode.

Oh, Lord. That brings back a memory. I had just bought this house. Was sleeping on an air mattress bc carpet was being installed the next week. Work night. kidlets bff lived with us then (both 16). They get home and wake me up at 1am. Mom, the cops are here and want to talk to you. fk. Put on my robe. Cop says he caught them smoking weed at the cemetery. He could tell I was not happy. Just remembered. Something stupid I did in a car?
I'd just had my front windshield replaced on my car, and the place forgot to put my wipers back on. So they dropped them off at my apartment later in the day. I took a look at them, but couldn't figure out how attach them properly. The peg and hole bit was easy to figure out, but that just left the wipers a couple of inches away from the windshield - i.e. useless.
My sister had gotten married out of state the previous week, and was having an in-state wedding reception that night. So I got into my car and drove to the reception... in pouring rain, on a crowded Southern California freeway.
The next day I took the car back to the place that did the windshield install, and they showed me another little peg that I'd missed, and properly reinstalled my wipers.

Summer before senior year in HS, 4 of us lived about 15 minutes from school. During Two-a-Days, we car pooled. Only one of us had a car of his own and that guy's MO was by a barely running car and drive it until it finally died for good (usually about 30 days).
We called it the Safety Bug. Had a not-so-slow leak in a front tire. Morning trip was OK, as he filled the tire at home. By end of practice, it was flat. Three of us would lift the front end and the fourth used a bicycle pump. Enough air to get to the first drop off, where a compressor could be used.
Oh, and the starter was shot, so push start.
We loved it.

But there was certainly *something* going on. Fuel pump quit working on my last car. Took me a while to figure it out. But eventually I realized that parking so that the car was tipped with the right side lower than the left made it more likely that the car would start. And if I couldn't do that, then slamming the car door shut as I turned the key in the ignition also did the trick.

Its not as if Scalia was a spring chicken. The idea that he was going to last another 4 years had to be seen as a long shot. If its a case that his death convinced some to vote for him, the realization that Hillary would be picking his replacement should he pass should have gotten them to vote for Trump.

True. I knew a woman who drove herself insane when she became convinced that her parents had been part of a satanic cult when she was a kid and was sure she had been horribly abused - her shrink put the idea of "recovered memories" into her head and egged her on. When I told her (as kindly as I could) that I was afraid she was being abused by her therapist, she accused me of being part of the cult. She was utterly miserable and paranoid.
That said, I think there is probably is a lot of child sex trafficking going in with the "dreamer" kids who came here without parents. The filthy drug lords in Mexico have no qualms about cutting people's heads off - does anyone think they would have ones about exploiting poor and parentless kids in such a way?

The problem with these agencies stems from the fact that no one in them (or their ultimate bosses in the Executive branch) are ever held liable for anything they do - and much of it would qualify as criminal outside of the government.
But we can't even hold them liable below the criminal threshold. Congress has never impeached any agency heads (that I know of) or other workers and just thrown them out of their positions. You would think that we could, at least, get that much justice against federal government workers who abuse their power and threaten the life and property of citizens. And do it with malevolent intent.

Back in the early 80s, drove a Datsun 210 (like Bob in Texas, up above) from DC to Berlin, MD (far western panhandle of MD) in the midst of a blizzard.
The blizzard was developing as we went. Hilariously, we happened to get through Cumberland JUST before the state highway west was closed.
So I fishtailed along in 3rd gear, the other 3 passengers asleep, in a beautiful winter wonderland, for hours, occasionally "drafting" behind state hwy dept. snow-plows.
I had never driven in snow in my life. My passengers - all easterners with mucho snow experience - missed it all, asleep. The hotel clerk in Berlin almost literally refused to believe we'd made it in from DC that night.

Reminded of an attempted pot buy in blacktown Little Rock that the three of us dumbass white kids sensed was going badly, so we jumped in my car and fled frantically... down an unfamiliar hill which, we realized too late, ended in a stream at the bottom, not a through street. Problem is that the motion will be filed on the 6th, earliest that a judge will rule on it will be the 7th, and if he orders a recount, then the 8th is the earliest it could start, and that assumes that PA doesn't ask for more time to prepare a defense.

I don't know anything about Reznor and I don't know anything about Cash but I would just guess that Reznor was mostly blown away by the fact that Cash even wanted to cover one of his songs. Like the events in Ferguson, MO the white cop was found guilty by lies spread from the MFM before the trial and the cop's defense attorney pointed that out at the trial. The judge did give the jury the option of convicting him of manslaughter instead of murder but all the other jurors obviously wanted "murder" which I can hardly see since that requires prior malice. It would be nice to see the makeup of the jury. AOL doesn't mention that there was actually a fight with the cop and he took the cop's taser before he "ran away". From what little I read about that OSU dick, he went on his killing spree because he was angry about muslims being killed, and because he was upset that there were not any muslim-only prayer rooms at OSU.
Since no muslims were being killed at OSU, and since most of the muslims in the world who are being killed are being killed by other muslims, his first complaint had nothing to do with any "hate" at OSU.
His second complaint, about the lack of muslim-only prayer spaces at OSU, was illegitimate. OSU can't set up such spaces without running afoul of the constitution. So Stabby was essentially upset about the fact that he had to live in a pluralistic western society that is not run by muslims. Too fucking bad. Nobody was forcing him to live in the U.S. He was 18 (at the very least) and could have bought a plane ticket to any muslim shithole he chose.
The notion that OSU should now change its "hateful" attitudes towards muslims in order to appease future muslims killers is beyond stupid.

Vote fraud is a "local" violation. And it is normally only a misdemeanor with a tap on the wrist. I would think this is unlikely unless you can find evidence that it was coordinated from on high. Local entities might well be able to do this, but I doubt there is a Podesta email (in code of course) talking about the fraud in Philadelphia or Milwaukee. I could be wrong, the internet makes people do stupid thing and they have been eating their Brazen flakes.

I had read quite a while ago, that a lot of businesses were keeping their money on the down low (no new buildings, machines, etc.) until after the election. Trying to run a business with the JEF at the wheel was like expecting a retarded gerbil to drive. They weren't sure what was on the chopping block so they figured we'll just ride it out.

Since she in no way had a narrow loss she has no harm and therefore no cause, and therefore no case. We ran out of gas just a mile downhill from a station, in an old Jeepster. My Uncle Jim opened the hood, which leaned all the way back against the windshield frame, and removed the air cleaner. He gave my 13-year old cousin Charlie an aerosol spray can of starter fluid, had him perch on the passenger side front wheel cover, with the spray positioned into the carburetor. Charlie sprayed, Uncle Jim started it up and leaned out the window to navigate --we got to the gas station alive, thought it was great fun.
