Saturday Morning Weird News [Mis. Hum.]

sat morn thread .jpg

Grab your favorite beverage. Relax, it is Saturday after all.

***Update: Mystery OB has been identified***

Here are a few things that didn't make The Dumps this past week. It is an amazing world at times, isn't it? Hey, it's an open thread. No running with sharp objects and play nice with the others.

  • This guy doesn't seem like a Tombstone Pizza guy

  • WTH is up with pizza and Florida?

  • Go Granny Go!!!

  • ONT's have been pants optional for quite some time. Its now spread to Berlin

  • Sounds like fun, like eating Lutefisk or Kaboom

  • Her name is not Jenny nor is her phone number 867-5309

  • Surprised none of the charges include being dumber than a box of rocks

  • The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Government is way too big

  • Truly a head butt scratcher

Hey Morons, have a wonderful weekend. Be safe. Be well.

21 So I'm watching my sister's kitten, which is a very cute Siamese fluffball. I think she has destroyed half the contents of my (old) home. I haven't even gotten into my new home yet because we are renting the first year while we decide what to do with our two old places. The landlord doesn't allow pets so I haven't spent a single night in our new place yet. Meanwhile my white sofa is taking a beating, my hands continually smell of gourmet cat food, and my newish husband can't find the pots and pans.

Thus endeth the whining for today.

69 They're doing tuckpointing on my building and the residents were told to close their windows and pull down the blinds during the work because the dust gets everywhere. But I had the windows open last night because it was cool enough to avoid turning on the AC.

So this morning at 7 I'm awakened by a racket and I see the legs of the two guys right outside my bedroom window. I yelled out "Crap! I didn't think you guys would be working on Saturday!" I got up, closed all my windows and turned on the AC because even though it's cool outside it gets awfully hot in here quickly with the windows shut. Now it's raining and the construction guys, having accomplished their goal of getting me out of bed, are gone.

It's been amazing, once he finally got on the prompter for the big addresses, and calmed down his undisciplined extemporizing. And he went for a week with various Democratic proxies trying to rudely prod him into going after them personally with an angry response, and he did not give them the satisfaction.

All the things he had been doing wrong, he's starting to do right. The New Trump.

Oh, I remember that very well. Smerconish portrayed himself as a conservative, and was a big supporter of Bush's "War on Terror". In retrospect, it appears that he was a "9/11 conservative" like a certain Bicycle Boy many of us remember.

During the 2008 campaign, he said that he was keeping an open mind and would vote for whoever he thought would "get bin Laden". I would roll my eyes whenever he said that. I knew bloody well that he was going to vote for Obama. He kept teasing his endorsement for months, and when he finally came out and said it, I turned him off and never listened again.

I'm sure he felt all smug and justified when Obama finally "got" bin Laden.

I knew relatively little about the guy, Smirk being pretty much an east coast thing, until someone handed me his book. In which he initially purported to be a fearless foe of left-wing political correctness.

Okay, I hate the PC nonsense, I'll give the book a go. It started off in a vaguely promising way.

Instead, partway through the book, Smirk recounted having had an African-American gentleman call in to his radio show. This fellow then claimed on the air that America's automotive, aerospace, computer, and telecommunications industries had actually all been created in their entirety by black people. And that Whitey, who had no innovative role in any of this, had then dishonestly stolen all of those black people's technological creations and all of the profits they were due.

    Wait, what?

Smirk turned out to be so favorably impressed with this line of reasoning, such as it was, that he actually invited this lunatic conspiracy theorist in as a welcome studio guest on Smirk's radio show, instead of referring him to the nut hut.

I tossed the book at that point. Life's too short to be reading bad books, and especially not by authors intent on taking the nonstop express train to Crazytown.

The move was provoked by two separate incidents in mid-September of male students holding their cell phones above the shower stall dividers in so-called gender-neutral communal washrooms at Whitney Hall, a co-ed residence at the University College, to record female students showering.

Thanks to the advice and assistance of grandkids, she has a ginormous flat screen a family room full of people can enjoy - with a gazillion cable channels.

And, AFAIK, she mostly watches sports (golf, tennis, select college basketball games), classic series (e.g. Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith) and movies. She probably does watch the local news, too - mostly for the weather.

(I can only pray I even get to her age, much less still as sharp-witted and mobile!)

215 How can you afford the data? I'm serious. There has to be something I'm missing. On a grandfathered no limit data plan or what?

    Posted by: weirdflunkyonatablet

on a cabled connection, like xfinity or Verizon, there is no data limit. You pick the speed you want in mbs at that's the limit. I have had four tvs streaming, one laptop downloading, and two internet connected phones running simultaneously. On a 25 mps connection. Cost? About 80.00 per month.

216 Dumping paperwork in a dumpster is a well worn public employee trick. We had a clerk who was always caught up with his work...great news, until someone caught him filling up his briefcase with papers, then dumping them in the dumpster on the way to his car.

217 On the subject of homoeroticism in "Ben-Hur", there is a scene in the book and I believe the 1959 film where Masala tells Judah that he is his "Ganymede."

There it is. They were catamites.

Maybe Masala wanted Judah, but I don't think Judah wanted Masala.
