Tuesday Overnight Open Thread (5/24/16) [Misanthropic Humanitarian]

Welcome to the Maetenlochless, Tasteless, Sex, Drugs and Rock N Roll Edition of the ONT.

z yoko feathers.jpg

z yoko 3.jpg

When it is Twofer-Tuesday, be careful for what you wish for. And you know who you are. Don't you?

Even a bag doesn't work covering Yoko. Nice try Howard.

She hasn't improved any with age either.

Twofer photos and videos, how tasteless was that?

ROCK N ROLL

Happy Birthday Bob Dylan! Still working hard and entertaining fans.

Rockers who uttered sensible things. Or as Maetenloch would say, quotes of the day.

Quote 1

Where you have the most armed citizens in America, you have the lowest violent crime rate. Where you have the worst gun control, you have the highest crime rate.
-Ted Nugent

Quote 2

Hopping the fence or wading the Rio Grande River isn't part of America's immigration process.
-Ted Nugent

Quote 3

Communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff.
-Frank Zappa

Quote 4

It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia

-Frank Zappa

Quote 5

I'm really terrible with small children; they're small, noisy, irritating, damp and soggy.

-Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull)

Quote 6

What I've learned about marriage: You need to have each other's back; you have to be a kind of team going through life.

-Tom Petty

Quote 7

Inspiration is hard to come by. You have to take it where you find it.

-Bob Dylan

The most iconic rock concert of all time, Woodstock.

Here's a partial listing of who performed and their reported pay day. Joan Baez was paid $10,000. I would have paid her $11,000 not to attend.

Canned Heat – $6,500
The Who – $6,250 (also reported at $11,200 but Variety claimed that number was inaccurate)
Richie Havens – $6,000
Arlo Guthrie – $5,000
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – $5,000
Mountain – $2,000
Tim Hardin – $2,000
Joe Cocker – $1,375
Sweetwater – $1,250
John B. Sebastian – $1,000
Melanie – $750
Santana – $750
Sha Na Na – $700

So how musical are you? Do you play an instrument? Force fed piano lessons as a child? Or do you just play a mean old stereo that has you on first name basis with the neighbor and responding cop? Your musical tastes examined. When we identify ourselves with the music we love, we are really telling people about who we are on a deeper level.

The Who's "My Generation" had a line that went "I hope I die before I get old". My goodness how the time has passed. How much make up, botox and hair color can you spot?

DRUGS

Legal pot boring? Not to mention the business is dominated by white men, full of injustice and inequality.

Grannies smoking pot for the first time.

As marijuana becomes more acceptable just another person to avoid on the roads. Watch driving skills deteriorate with pot consumption.

DISCLAIMER
Videos are from Washington state where marijuana consumption is legal.

The AoSHQ and the ONT are not responsible for the content of these videos. Nor do these videos represent the views or beliefs of the AoSHQ, it's management, staff, bartenders, parents, pets or advertisers.

SEX

India, the new sex change destination. Something tells me this poor soul needed serious couch time rather than a date with a fillet knife.

Unrealistic sex with Bill Burr.

Battle of the sexes, or why husbands require supervision.

Lonely and out of shape? Try a sex-based exercise program

Do these therapists find themselves in legal hot water for discriminating against the Amy Schumers, Lindsey Wests and Trigglypuffs of the world?? Discovery could be a bitch.

Tonight's ONT brought to you by misogynistic men, dangerous dames, lethal ladies and warrior women. SJWs need not apply.

As I said in the morning thread, he just completed a tour of Japan, he will start a U.S. tour next week, and he has a brand new album out. Sounds like he's not contemplating retirement at the moment.

Far from it. He's just getting warmed up. I've said repeatedly that his albums over the last ten years or so rank among the best of his career.

Here's a nice live version of "Spirit On The Water" from his 2006 album "Modern Times". It's an audience recording so the sound quality is not the best, but it's not bad. That's Bob on piano.

At least venues paid the musicians back then.. Nowadays, they require the musicians to bring a crowd of followers and don't pay shit.. they get the "exposure". Fuck that. I never played for free unless it was a charity gig. $50- $100 a night back in the 70's put food on the table in addition to my day job.. I was tired a lot.. lol!

And let's face it, Lennon's "Starting Over" and other hits of the 1980s were probably boosted by, sadly enough, his untimely death. People wanted to show their support.

281 If you look at the pictures, the Lennon of 1970 looks to me like a cocooned, doe-eyed super-liberal celebrity.

But... take a look at the pics of him taken in 1979 and 1980. He looks *much* more mature IMHO, thoughtful, not as pretty although still handsome, and pragmatic.

Just my take.

Posted by: qdpsteve at May 24, 2016 10:57 PM

They all did good stuff in the 70's, but the ratio of good to filler material went way down. They all (excepting Ringo, I think) relied on the others to be critical and to weed out their weaker stuff. They had common ground musically, but their tastes and styles were pretty diverse. It wasn't just the collaboration on tunes that made it work, it was also the filtering process. Once they broke up, there was nobody who had the guts to tell them a song sucked. Only their strongest stuff could make the cut onto an LP.

286 You do understand that at the time, $6,000 was about the average working man's wage for a year? So they got a decent payday for a 3 day job out in the middle of nowhere and that in retrospect put a lot of the acts on the charts.

When I got out of the Navy in 1970 I went to work in a factory at 2.40 and hour. That's about 80 bucks a week before taxes.

So my yearly wage was about $4,000. And I considered myself doing well for having no skills. (no Virginia, the military rarely provides skills that can be directly monetized in civilian life. You learn a lot of other skills that help but knowing how to operate a missile radar isn't a civilian job classification.)

Just thought I'd add some perspective for you younguns out there.

300 Lizzy, I've read numerous times how Marcia Lucas deserves a *lot* of credit for the success of Star Wars.

But, because she and George divorced early on during his success, he pretty much cut her out of everything ever after as a result: the process, the credit, etc etc.

It's sad.

IMHO they all did continue to write as well as the band days. The thing is, actual songwiting amongst them ceased around the mid 60's. Apart from the occasional tune, that is. After the touring stopped, most songs were written entirely independently, with the others contributing to arrangement and whatnot. What makes their Beatles stuff look better is, post Beatles, they had to fill an entire LP on their own, every year or so. With the band, only a handful, at most would make the cut. If you go through their solo catalogue, year by year and make up a 42 minute LP of their best stuff, you get a "new" Beatles LP. It's true. Try it. No padding.

Don't know if it was just a mock-up or an actual bootleg, but I'd assume if it ever was a real album, it was entirely the best-ofs of all four members' solo recordings up to that time.

360 I knew that John Lennon met Reagan at a football game in the seventies and that the two of them got along famously.

I've also read that Lennon was an avid watcher of Billy Graham crusades and once told Yoko that he had become a born-again Christian. Yoko put the kibosh on Lennon's TV viewing and distracted him.

According to this article from The Daily Mail, Lennon became a conservative in the late seventies. I take it with a grain of salt, but it rings a bit true.

Obesity crisis? It's not eevil food companies putting sugar in your kale when you're not looking. No, it's the result of 50 years of stoners binging on junk food every night when they get high.

Leftist government? Stoners who want free shit so they can stay home and get high.

Immigration crisis? Too many fucking stoners so we need Mexicans to work.

She was one heck of a drummer too. There are quite a few videos on YouTube of Karen showcasing her singing and drumming.

Their original Christmas album (the short one, not the padded one) has been in my top 5 album list for decades. Richard was dealing with his own personal demons at the time and farmed out the arrangements to others. It's a great album and, other than one original song, doesn't have that dated Carpenter's sound.

I'm thinking that they'd rather deal with Milo getting hurt than a BLM activist.
They don;t want to be the focus of the next "hate crime"/over use of force scandal. They know conservatives won;t riot, camp out, have the MSM and Obama championing them should a conservative white student or speaker get injured.

441 sven, Carpenter would not have done well against those early 1980s acts. OTOH, she probably wouldn't have had to; she might have simply gone in a different direction. I'd also imagine by now, she'd be a *yuge* draw on the casino performing circuit, similar to Juice Newton and Sheena Easton today.

Remember Linda Ronstadt's "What's New" album? Linda basically gave up on pop stardom by 1984 and started embracing various older genres of music.

Don't know if Karen would ever have gone espanol however. :-)

455 Had a visitor this evening. From St. Simons Island, Georgia, of all places. Went to the hotel in town for a couple of beers, this guy comes in, toting a tablet computer in a bag, and sits at the bar, and asks for a good local beer. Waitress served him a Kokanee (haaack, ptui, but I digress), and conversation commenced. Turned out he was stuck in town for the night because the travel trailer he was hauling lost a wheel bearing. He's parked across the road from the tire shop, and the owner of the tire shop had searched the bearing number, and ordered one from Calgary, to arrive tomorrow. I told him that if the bearing fails to arrive, or if the wrong one arrives, to call me, because I have a fair number of miscellaneous NOS bearings on hand, plus many used ones that could get him at least as far as Edmonton, where the odds of getting the correct new bearing would be better.

Anyway, we got to chatting, and I mentioned that I hoarded such parts because I collect Studebakers, and other odd vehicles, and keeping mechanical parts on hand goes with the territory. So he came out and viewed the collection, and took some pics that he's going to put up on his FB page. He's on this trip because he is acting as roadie and back-trailer for a group of 11 senior citizens who are bicycling all the way from Cut Bank, Montana to Anchorage, Alaska. His posse is 60 miles up the road in the hotel in Bashaw, Alberta tonight. The gentleman is a retired police officer. So we had a very nice, but all too brief, visit.

Posted by: sven10077 at May 24, 2016 11:49 PM (g8Hfr)

She did some solo albums after they broke up and they were mostly sung in a higher register than her trademark alto. The albums didn't do so well and, though I've heard them, nothing stuck me as special.

So I guess I was exaggerating when I said I would pay to hear her sing the Dallas phone book.

I saw a biography of her many years ago and she apparently led a troubled life. Very sad.

471 A little bit of analysis on the ICE officer's suicide note: nobody writes a false suicide note like that. The police regard such suicide notes as death bed confessions - and properly so. He believed what he was writing was true. There have been other leaks in government security concerning their plans, and they all point in the same direction. Besides it is what the left does - it is what they have always done.

Remember: if 10% of the Jews had fought back, the Nazi death camps couldn't have existed.

Example: google up Juanita Broaddrick's reasons for not reporting her rape and then tell me there was no need for something like the liberation of women. Rush Limbaugh's insistence that this cause was invented so ugly women could get jobs is offensive in light of the silent suffering of thousands and thousands of women like Juanita.

Of course we know what happened to that cause, and tragically this completely misleads people who can't tell the difference between a certain segment of the population and the radical 5% who claim to speak for it. 502 441 sven, Carpenter would not have done well against those early 1980s acts.

By 84 she would have gone country.

She would have done a couple of duets with Kenny Rogers, and then one with Willie Nelson. After that duet with Willie, she would have been so fucking high that she would have singlehandedly kept Kenny Roger's Roasters in business.

514 Today here was as nice as yesterday was miserable, weather-wise. Started 3 vehicles, well, 4, counting the tractor, and mowed the grass where they were sitting, Hauled miscellaneous motor home bits down to the bottom of the lot where the hulk is sitting, so my top yard is back to its normal degree of clutter. Mowed a bunch more grass; riding mower doing just fine. No blades fell off yet.

While I had the tractor running, I used the loader to pick up a Nissan SD22 Diesel engine that I had sitting in the barn for many years. It came from a terribly rusty '83 King Cab pickup I bought and parted out before I even moved to this place. Truck ran on 3 cylinders.

Anyway, for shits and grins, I thought today would be a good day to pull the head off the darn thing, and see why it had a dead cylinder. So, having used the loader to place the engine on my outdoor workbench, I proceeded to tear it down. Strange! It has an air throttle, with vacuum lines running from the throttle body to the injection pump. I guess the injection pump is controlled by the pressure drop across the throttle plate?

So, I got the head off, and there appears to be nothing wrong in the cylinders. Pistons are intact, cylinder walls not scored or cracked, valves all intact. Only thing I noticed was #3 intake valve was wet with...fuel. After, lo! these many years, even. So my best guess is it was hitting on 3 cylinders because #3 injector was stuck wide open, and over-fueling that cylinder? I will go ahead, and service all the valves anyway, seeing as the head is off. Next order of business is to try and find a top end gasket set.

If I can make this puppy run, I have a use in mind for it.

Diesels weren't subject to the same emissions BS that afflicted gasoline engines of the era. It has an electronic module which drives a motor which acts like a fuel solenoid. So help me, it looks like a windshield wiper motor with a linkage rod running from it to a lever on the side of the injection pump. From the little reading I have done, it seems there are three positions: "off", "start", and "run". The module probably contains a timer or other circuitry that makes the decision to move it from "start" to "run". "Off" happens by way of the key switch.

Other than that peculiarity, it seems like a normal little 4-banger Diesel, nicely finished, and neatly laid out.

For most of the last two decades, we have been embedded in the loathsome slime of crony capitalism -- where bringing satisfaction to consumers is secondary to using political power to ram unwanted toxic garbage down the throats of unwilling participants, who pay only to avoid consequences that are worse. And Virginia Postrel puts out this column.

Let me put out a little, tiny hint -- if Trump utterly ruins those politically-connected firms that have utterly poisoned the marketplace by government fiat and burns them to the ground, salting the earth where they stood, GOOD!!!

If the government completely bankrupts everyone who profited from outlawing incandescent bulbs, the makers of those short-wave scanners in TSA lines, and medical insurance companies that are more price-fixing than insurance.....live by the sword and die by it, bitchez!!!!

The list goes on-and-on. Anyone whose business model depends on government regulation and pays lobbyists to keep it that way can DIAF. Developers of Common-Core educational materials, environmental remediation "experts" that dump toxins into creeks, "providers of mammograms" that actually provide no mammograms but sell fetal tissue to researchers.....

If those are the only profitable sectors of our economy, God help us all -- but the social cost for each so far outweighs any financial gain, we should shut them down, anyway.

That Postrel thinks her article can be persuasive is yet another indication of how blind the MSM can be.

Proof on the number?

Sure 10% of the Jews killed in the concentration camps would have been 600,000 people fighting a defensive battle. Typical military doctrine says that a ratio of 3 : 1 in favor of an attacking force compared to a defensive force is necessary to overcome defense. That means the 600,000 would have tied up 1.8 million German soldiers. Since the largest size of active Wehrmacht troops at any one time was 2.2 million it is evident that the Nazis war effort would have been drastically crippled by such opposition. Those Jews who did fight back were very successful in doing so. For example one of the death camps was destroyed and the Nazi garrison at the camp was wiped out.

Bill Ayers - Obama's good buddy - has estimated that 25,000,000 Americans need to be killed to institute a people's paradise in the U.S. 10% fighting back would be 2.5 million snipers - since anyone with a scope sighted deer rifle qualifies as a sniper. Even the US Army can't fight 2.5 million snipers.

534 AOP. Sounds like it'd marinize into a dandy lil' sailboat engine.

See if it cross-indexes to such on the market, much like the Toyota diesel is found in many boats as a Hino unit.

If you can marinize it, with zincs, a wet exhaust manifold, marine rated alternator and equipped for a remote filter and remote oil drain, it'll be worth some serious bucks in the refit market.

Oh, and a nice coat of whatever Nissan's marine diesel paint was when it was new.

Do all that, affix it to a pallet, take copies photos, and run it on Craigslist and Boat Trader. You'll get quick cash on that one.

Or, just keep it. You're not gonna replace it for cheap, either.

The only band that IMHO appear to have been really recognized at the
time besides the Beatles, were the Stones, because Mick Co. were
willing to play the dangerous bad guys to the Beatles' more cutesy,
cuddly image.

Posted by: qdpsteve at May 24, 2016 11:23 PM (ntObR)

The ironic part was that the Beatles came from a working class background, while the Stones came from a middle class background.

This is very, very true, and it goes way beyond that. The Beatles grew up pretty tough. Paul's mother died when he was pretty young, and John was raised by his aunt. He never knew his father, and his mother was run over by a police car when he was 15 or 16. Ringo was sickly as a kid. The Beatles were basically a high school garage band, when they got a job in Hamburg. Germany. About 15 years after WWII. Playing about six hours a night in a dump down by the waterfront. The customers were mainly merchant marines who were coming or going to strip clubs. This is where they first got involved with drugs - not weed, or LSD, but speed, just to be able to function. I sort of doubt there was a lot of refined musical appreciation in the crowds.

And consider this - there was absolutely no model, or path, for them to follow. English groups didn't make it big in America. Hell, there were no "groups"! There were stars - Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Everly Bros - but who the hell ever heard of a group? An English music group?????

Ringo wasn't with them then - their drummer was Pete Best, and on bass was Stu Sutcliffe - Paul played guitar - three guitars. Stu was John's pal, he wasn't much of a player, but they made due. One night, in an alley, he gets jumped and kicked repeatedly in the head. He dies shortly after. His girlfriend was a German named Astrid, who takes these incredible photo's of the band. Then, they were all into leather, with those French haircuts. They were punk 20 years before punk, posing on these bombed out Hamburg street cars.

Who in the world would ever imagine this was a road to success??????

Also, remember two things. The Beatles were a product of the '50's. And if you don't think they were genius', just diagram their harmonies sometime.

If you're interested, the biography of the Beatles is an incredible story. Like nothing else in show biz history. I would predict that if, in 500 years, they only discuss 2 acts in popular entertainment in the 20th century, it will be The Beatles and Charlie Chaplin.

Since they were all uppers, RH side, worst part was being half-suffocated by drool while my head was lower than my bod. Still have sore spots in my throat where the suction tube sat for too long.

You could have had Yoko Ono come sit on your chest and sing. Then you would have gratefully accepted anaesthesia.

The pop radio, Top 40 hits, weren't necessarily the best of the Beatles.

Some of the unknown tracks on the various albums are phenomenal works of art, that didn't get airplay, because they didn't fit the Top 40 programmer's paradigm of what fit the format.

Oh, and try to get some "good" drummer to play some of Ringo's patterns. No, he wasn't a "drum solo" superstar as became the norm in rock later in the '60s.

But he could lay down some pretty damn complex patterns, and do them very well. Subtle, not demandingly, but well.

Lennon and McCartney would not have allowed him to have shone any brighter, either.

There's a reason he has the respect in the classic rock and now, in the rock/jazz/blues community that he now enjoys.

He was GOOD. Not a "great". But very damn good, doing what he was supposed to have been doing, with the band in it's time.

560 The ironic part was that the Beatles came from a working class background, while the Stones came from a middle class background.

I sort of doubt there was a lot of refined musical appreciation in the crowds.

...

Roger Daltrey's stuttering on "My Generation" was him making fun of all the people in British music on speed at the time because when they spoke, they stuttered.

Weird that the guy that was famous for not doing drugs, Daltrey, is in a group with a heroin addict, a cokehead that died of a heart attack, and one that drank himself to death.

I absolutely couldn't agree more. I wasn't a drummer, and I love Keith Moon, but Ringo was perfect for his band. He was sort of like the ballplayer, you know, where they say, he doesn't have the greatest range, but he catches everything he gets to.

You know, it would be fun to put together an LP of "forgotten" Beatle stuff. People don't realize how much country and western they covered, or RB, for example.

I would love to see some of the set lists from the Germany days. I'll bet, in their time, they played 1000 different songs on stage, at one time or another.

You know, I understand perfectly what you mean by "tight". Yes, I was in a band in college, but I freely admit we sucked. But I know what tight is.

I've got a video I downloaded on my computer, of the show the Beatles did, I believe, on the Wednesday between their first two Sullivan appearances. It's in Washington, DC. And I'm telling you - it's like no other show of theirs on video or film. They are 'tight'! It's hard to explain.

I was in Albuquerque last week; looks like I missed all the Trump excitement. We were on a 3200 mile road trip to Monument Valley, Utah and back. Dad's ashes can now be found in five different states. Maybe more, depending on the winds.

Trip insights -- They now charge $5 a head to get to the Four Corners stela.

They don't serve booze at the Indian casino in ABQ.

Don't break down in your RV in Ft. Worth in 5pm rush hour traffic in the middle of 5 lanes of traffic. Just don't. And if you do, don't get your RV towed to the nearest Walmart; Tarrant County TX frowns upon this practice.

And whatever you do, don't cross Louisiana on I-10 at 1 am on a weekday; there's one cop per foot for the entire 277 miles, all with radar guns and itchy ticket fingers. This is barely an exaggeration.

It was a good, if fast, trip.

CPS? I got hit twice by that this year, the second time barely two months after it had been replaced. Both times I was stuck in the rain for hours but the second time was especially enjoyable because I was blocking a freeway exit during rush hour. (Ford is trying to disavow responsibility because I didn't get towed to a Ford dealer the second time around, as if It was normal to expect Ford service to fail badly.)

I'm now very reluctant to drive the car on on a rainy day because apparently some parts of the 2002 Explorer's engine are made from spun sugar that will cost you about $700 if the come anywhere near water.

624 My little town was wiped out by a tornado in 1860. Out of six hundred houses in town, five were left intact. Twenty-nine people died and seventy-six were injured. The town, which had been the county seat, never quite recovered. The county seat was moved five miles north to a smaller town which eventually overtook ours. We're just a bedroom community now.

625 I'll be fine Jarvis. God no let sharks hurt me.

Yeah. The Taylor is functionally an 800 series dreadnaught. Dialed back inlays and no pick guard that, for my taste, adds to looks.
Plays and sounds great.
Of course, it has more notes when someone like my front man plays it but I have fun with it.

628 I think one of the Ramones wives recently said one of them was too..

All of the original Ramones except Joey were righties, with the late Johnny Ramone the most conservative.

They flat-out endorsed Reagan during the 1980 election, and caught a ton of shit for it from the liberal press. Johnny's "Kill a Commie for Mommy" t-shirt really pissed them off.

Johnny almost quit the band over Joey's lame, cheap-shot anti-Reagan song "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg." He insisted on at least changing the title (to "My Brain is Hanging Upside Down") on later pressings.

636 Never heard about any of the Sex Pistols being conservative (definitely not Johnny Rotten), but The Jam were Tories who were pro-Thatcher. And predictably, were hated by the larger punk community for it.

Unlike the Pistols, who had a bare handful of good songs and one album, The Jam had scads of terrific singles and albums.

652 The current corrupt AG has said the feds will hold their own separate trial of the Charleston shooter and will seek the death penalty. The law she is crediting the trial on specifically says that it is not to be invoked unless the State is taking no action. But since when is anyone in this regime cared a whit about what the law says? The actual US code:

(b) Certification Requirement.

(1)In general. No prosecution of any offense described in this subsection may be undertaken by the United States, except under the certification in writing of the Attorney General, or a designee, that:

A) the State does not have jurisdiction;

(B) the State has requested that the Federal Government assume jurisdiction;

(C) the verdict or sentence obtained pursuant to State charges left demonstratively unvindicated the Federal interest in eradicating bias-motivated violence; or

(D) a prosecution by the United States is in the public interest and necessary to secure substantial justice.

The feds meet none of the above criteria. SC long ago stated they are seeking the death penalty. This is expensive taxpayer funded grandstanding to help the Democrat Party.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I couldn't disagree more Vic, based on the stories I've read so far. This same police force is trying to fire four other officers for sexual harassment of citizens and town staff, so their record isn't good (by the way, now many cops does a village of less than 7,000 at peak need?!). Next, the story the woman tells is essentially unchallenged by the town. Her claims of being assaulted are on video. There is ZERO evidence she was drunk.

The cops appear to be making it up as they go along on this one and the town attorney has clammed up tight, citing "possible litigation". As I said yesterday when we were talking about this story, I'm betting these lousy beach cops have set their town up to write a large check to the Malls.

692 We had a small town located to the South of me on a busy State highway. They has a bad reputation of setting speed traps and other abuses of the law including false charges. Most people they hit simply settled and moved on. That is until the punishment both in fines and insurance costs for DUI went through the roof.

They made the mistake of popping a State Senator's son for a phony DUI charge and jailing him. Shortly after he paid his exorbitant fine the town was raided by SLED and everyone of those corrupt cops was fired.

A few years ago the town filed for bankruptcy.

.The people who run around and make these lawsuits are most definitely some of the most bitter, angry and lonely people I have ever come across. They are empty and uncaring about almost anything and usually have zero relationships with other people. That is why they get all up in arms about crosses and the like, it is because they want other people to feel as bad as they do.

Oddly enough, they never bitch about anything islamic. So they aren't completely stupid.

SCOTUS has only ruled on one case involving civil forfeiture. They said that it was constitutional, however, that case involved forfeiture AFTER conviction. Usually what happens is that after they illegally seize the assets if the individual gets a lawyer and sues, they give it back. Or at least part of it back but it costs the person who had it seized a bunch of money to fight them. They know that if they go to court they will lose and lose the ability to take assets in the future.

It is one of the most abused laws in the country. Congress has also been very slow to push elimination of this crap as well. It doesn't cost them any skin off their back.

Anyway, they took her car because it was involved in a crime, even tho she had no idea it was occurring or would have benefited in it..

This was in the early 90s too! so I can only imagine how far they stretch that law for themselves

706 Most likely the work of one of those militant atheists that can not stand the sight of anything religious.

My hometown had a run in with Freedom From Religion jackasses. There is a big white cross representing war dead in the city park they objected to. The city sold a 20 by 20 ft parcel, including the cross, to a local church whose parishioners donated the cross to begin with. Now, the cross isn't on city land anymore, but the FFR is "investigating" the sale of the property because they fear it didn't go through the proper bidding process. Ummm, if the local taxpayers aren't mad about it, they should piss off.

708 The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued a private business for sex discrimination and harassment after a male employee who announced he was switching genders to become a woman was barred from using the womens restroom and was referred to with male pronouns by his coworkers.

Deluxe Financial Services, a Minnesota-based company that helps small businesses with marketing, denied that it violated any anti-discrimination laws but agreed to settle the case for $115,000 in order to avoid further costs of litigation, according to the settlement agreement.

This is the kind of shit that is killing us. Illegal lawfare pure and simple. This should have been an open and shut case since the federal law they reference plainly states that they can legally discriminate based on sex to segregate bathrooms between male and female.
The company should not have surrendered to this illegal Obamanite extortion using taxpayer money.

712 "I don't get how "civil forfeiture" is legal."

Judges get part of the vig.

Modern judges started off as lawyers and politicians. Evil of Government licensing.
Organized theft by Government agents.

Current set-up has a massive conflict-of-interest built in. Don't worry. God is finishing up the reset button even as I type. We are near the end of this era. God hears prayers. That is why the attack on Christianity. Assholes don't want people to pray.

A way to destroy islam is to trick the believers into praying that evil is destroyed in the world.

A local superintendent said they would stay by the "born with" rules, and so the local news got a Trans student to opine..

Ze said "I can't believe he is saying there have been no problems ever in the district! When I was going to school, I'd use the other restroom and I'd get looks like "you arent supposed to be there!"..

THAT was the extent of ZE's discrimination!!! LOOKS!???

At some point the company sold-its-soul to the Government. Now they dance to the tunes of others.

Chick fil A didn't. They are doing quite well. I can't eat there because the lines are too long and it's too crowded.

There was a Reason link thrown out yesterday (on the sidebar maybe??), leading to a couple of wire reports (I recall Orlando Sentinel and a Charlotte Observer stories). The video was at the Observer story I think...

Anyway, I remember thinking "what the hell is a cop doing stopping a golf cart being driven under the supervision of parents?". They were on a beach town road commonly used by golf carts. It's none of his damn business. I guess there is a rule saying you have to have a drivers license to operate the cart, which probably makes every parent on that island a criminal at some point, I guess, but the way this story proceeded looked like the three stooges were in charge.
Posted by: MTF at May 25, 2016 06:32 AM (/m8T6)

I saw the Reason link. There was no actual evidence of intoxication and the case was dismissed when the cop failed to show up, which suggests to me he was full of shit from the get go, and was just out to prove that he had the biggest swinging dick around and these people better by-God recognize it.

LIVs always blame "the other guys" representatives, but really love their own. How does that work out again?

Well, I live in MA, so every one of my reps, up to and including the RINO governor, is an out-and-out asshole as far as I'm concerned. I rather like the suggestion I saw by an Althouse (yes, I know) commenter that every "public servant" should be required on a daily basis to explain why they shouldn't be swinging from the nearest lamppost.

Now, for a picture. I happen to be listening to the audio book version of Tinseltown, a book about the murder of silent director William Desmond Taylor, and am at the point where the film colony is mourning the death of starlet Olive Thomas, who (as I'm sure you've figured out by now) was a former Ziegfeld girl. Here she is in a full-page spread from the New York Tribune of August 1, 1915:

http://goo.gl/o8tJrt

You'll note it says she's appearing in the Follies at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The NA features portraits of Ziggy's girls in its lobby and Thomas' unhappy ghost is said to still haunt the house.
