About the NYC teacher story, my folks (bless their memories) saw the writing on the wall when the Black Panther/Marxist coalition wrested control of the UFT from Albert Shanker in the late 60's.

They kept their heads down for nearly 30 years and got the hell out, as did my brother about 5 years ago now.

And if you think, fuck NYC they deserve it, look at your own school districts in the more rural parts of the country and prepare yourselves.

If you believe in your own candidacy, you believe you can win. Maybe he can have a great debate performance and damage Trump (this is what ace reported happened last night. I didn't watch, I don't know.) But you have to think Rubio - and Cruz - were both hoping for that outcome.

I think your speaking to psychology and not necessarily reality on the ground. Rubio is hoping no one gets the magic 270 and that the conventioneers steal it for him, regardless of which candidate has the most delegates at the time.

Aw, hell, LDC. This has been going on for at least 20 years that I know of. I was in CA in the mid '90s the first time this happened (the switch to the "state mandated" summer blend of gas). When I arrived (on a business trip), got a rental car and gassed up, price was about 97 cents a gallon. (Like I said, this was 20 years ago.)

Week later, it's time to (thank God) go home, and I gas up again. The price had jumped to over $1.50 a gallon. Now, having been there, I had heard in the local media that this was coming and why. Yet by the time I got home the ripples of fear and outrage were spreading all over the country. "Oh, we are running out of oil. Look at the price jump in California", etc, etc. BJ Clinton even went so far as to release some oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ameliorate the "problem". (Turns out Clinton gave it all to some well-heeled political crony of his in Harlem, who promptly sold it all on the spot market, laughing all the way to the bank.).

It was all just another example of how we no longer have (if we ever did) a genuine news media. Never once was that state mandate being the cause of the big price jump for gasoline in California ever mentioned. A classic "manufactured crisis" for the plebs, nothing more...

both Trump and Cruz were the interviews I watched.

Very informative if they're available on line.

Short version:

Trump: Always be selling.(watch how he shores up the Evangelical vote)

Cruz: Relaxed, dominates stupid interviewer, comes off more likable because starts talking about kitchen table items( though broadly)

The way I see last night, election-wise-

1) Trump still won

-mostly because he still looked like a leader despite the double teaming.

He just wasn't flustered.

And yes, he sang the same song. But at the end of the day, he was still alpha male unflappable and he's talking about kitchen table discussion items.

2) Cruz - who is my guy.

Won the debate intellectually. He too looked like an alpha male when engaged in debating Trump.

Had the most substantial points.

But, if there's another debate- he'd better start hitting on kitchen table items hard.

Also, he fell for the Blitzer trick of "yeah, yeah, you'll get your turn to talk about that after we ask Joe Blow this totally unrelated question twice, I think, before he pushed back-

not alpha-ish, my friend.

3) Mario- who like always looked nervous and jumpy

had the best one-liners of the night against Trump.

The GOPe, I sure, hired some writers to give him some good lines.

Though Mario did repeat a good line over and over, it came off less robotic.

So, he'll probably rise in the polls. The one-line hit is a proven winner in debates.

He still looks and acts like a beta- he'd be a good 2nd or 3rd in command, but not number one.

And there's that little problem that every word out of his mouth is a lie.

4) Kasich- who let the subway lunatic into the debates?

On the plus side- the Postman's Boy traded in his Bedlam lunatic haircut-

-for a greased up Sonic the Hedgehog look spiking off the sides and back of his head.

5) Carson - Oh, good! They brought sedatives for the subway crazy person -

only they gave them to the wrong guy on the opposite side of the stage.

Actual effort for the different octane levels? I today's market I'd guess about a few cents/gal. That's why several sellers dump an additional additive pack into higher octanes - to "justify" the price.

Our Air Force took out Quadaffi surgically, as planned, but then the power vacuum we created in Libya was quickly filled by actors who were even more bloodthirsty than Muammar; actors like AQ and ISIS, who quickly set about slaughtering all the "moderates" so beloved by the U.S. And now Libya -- and all its oil and other resources -- are under the control of these vicious terrorists, and the country, and its people, are worse off than they were before the U.S. intervened to "help" them.

BTW, Obama gave an interview a couple of years ago on t.v. (CBS, I think), in which he was asked about Libya and he admitted that he "never really gave much thought to what would happen" in Libya after Quadaffi was killed. The MSM basically ignored Obama's shocking admission, but can you imagine the sustained outrage from the left we'd have been subjected to if a Republican president had ever publicly admitted to such colossal stupidity and incompetence?

In that he can see, the reality of both sides and can participate in both.

He knows business and he knows as he said last night politicians and politics.

He can play in the political ground because he understands at the end of the day-

it is all about sales and selling.

And he does both of those very well.

And he negotiates with everyone at the table being a hardass because it's about bottom-line money.

That's why he romps over them, even when he says questionable stuff.

There are massive numbers of previous non-voters coming to the polls in these primaries, and they're all there for one reason.

Hells yes. Us Italicans use them in pesto sauce.

I believe it's only western pines that produce the edible nuts. Our pines here in NY (mostly Eastern White Pines) don't.

When I primitive camped in the high desert, we roasted Pinyon Pine cones in the coals at the edge of the campfire. After 20 minutes or so, you just shake the roasted nuts out into a bowl and chow down.

Tons of calories and fats, so they make a great snack when backpacking, hiking and so forth. And they taste great.

Yesterday, I eavesdropped on a group of physicians I know to be quite conservative. They were ranting about what a buffoon Trump is and how they would never vote for him.

That is the reaction from every Republican I know - utter loathing and disgust. Some of it is ridiculous - comparisons of Trump to Hitler and so on - but the disgust he inspires is every bit as strong as the devotion.

The exception is my cousin, who voted in the Nevada caucus. And she is nuts.

I am not saying that all Trump supporters are nuts, but my cousin certainly is. She was a huge Ron Paul fan and is terrified of GM food.

I think you're giving him too much credit. I don't think The Donald gave a wet fart about politics or international relations before a few months ago save for how it would affect his bottom line.

This. Trump is an executive, not an ideologue. People are tired of the conservative nerds that over-promise with their gamed out Dungeons and Dragons policy fantasies. well he has made some commitments. On immigration last night he said when some are kicked out others will get the message and go on their own. He also supports e-verify. The wall would be about half the border he said... 1000 miles. He has a lot of details.

People act like he is clueless, but this appearance before a congressional hearing has them fawning over his every word of tax policy, and thanking him for understanding trade issues, even as they get into "the weeds". He knows how to win elections, separately he knows intricate details and policy off the top of his head. Obviously being a wonk doesn't always work so well in running for president.

I share your concern on what he will really do ... but Trump is the lower risk option by far, imo.

This is almost an hour, but any part is good ... I listened to the whole thing ... he is a smart guy, understood then the stock market "bubble" even before Greenspan made his "irrational exuberance" comment. He also comments briefly on the trade issues, one rep thanking him for understanding our export of jobs ... 1991.

He testifies right after Bill Seidman. If people would watch they would maybe quit calling him a buffoon. (or not)

First: war is an uncertain business, and I was amazed at how well DOD waged war especially after media reports about the 'elite' Republican Guard. Equally amazing was George HW's liberation of Kuwait. There should be no doubt about the US Military's ability to wage war.

No conservative would vote for Hillary... the establishment people I know are threatening to (I remind them of her very criminal an d shady history and hope it penetrates.

As far as conservatives not voting for Trump... I won't. I have never voted progressive in my life and I don't intend to start now. To me, likely policy matters and character matters even more (here is where Trump lost any hope of my vote when he started blatantly lying about Cruz). Its not a matter of me "taking my ball and going home" if Cruz the guy doesn't win. It's a matter of Cruz the conservative is the only one left in the race who supports my ideals.

As much as you and other Trump supporters refuse to hear it, "burn it all down" is not a way forward. I am all for destroying the Washington uniparty but there has to be consideration of the "and then what". Judging from his entire almost 70 year life before he decided to run for office as a Republican, the "and then what" under Trump (if he even goes in as a destroyer which I think is doubtful) would be very short on respect for my inalienable rights and very long on crony deals and progressive policies.

For instance, whatever Trump says about repealing Obamacare, he is fully supportive of the worst parts of it that abrogate our rights as supposedly free citizens.

No one here has insulted anyone over their education level (at least none of the regular posters have) and no one will. For that matter neither has Cruz ever done that. He has repeatedly spoken in favor of greater emphasis on trades for people instead of useless degrees in philosophy. But your guy, while not being openly contemptuous like the establishment, is pretty damn condescending to "the uneducated"... thank God for small favors, at least he didn't refer to them as "the poors".

I know the twitter skinheads are a tiny minority of Trump supporters, but they make my skin crawl.

657 Probably a dead thread, but just so you know...my neighbor's son has a Trump sticker on his car. he's working a factory job, since graduating from high school last year. This is WA state, so not exactly red.

Your physicians don't support Trump because they are in that protected class Noonan talks about. Most of us out here in blue land are smart enough not to advertise who we are going to vote for. We don't like having our car keyed. Bumper stickers mean nothing. And there are a whole lot of folks that will vote Trump because they are sick and tired of their "betters" telling them who they should support.
