How about some links about the Navy's total lack of commitment to CAS? Why do they get a pass (and before you say "Harrier", it has all the problems of F-35 and then some).
Speaking of naval aviation, they have dropped whole mission sets while retiring numerous types without replacement, so black shoe admirals could keep building unneeded billion dollar destroyers (and prematurely retire very capable ships without replacement). Where's the outrage there? I'd argue like hell that the nation's security has been far more undermined by the erosion of naval aviation than retiring the A-10 would cause.

I do not believe the premise that the maintenance costs of a mature airframe that has been proven to be perhaps the best warplane built in a generation is within several orders of magnitude of the cost of the F-35.

I think this is a good solution, but don't they always trot out the "Do not have infrastructure" argument every time it comes up? It makes logical sense to me however: a plane that the air force does not want but is desperately loved by the ground forces, being in the same service should make things easier to coordinate (maybe), etc.

Sure, they lack the wing area and electronics, etc. But most of their sins were due to being very underpowered by today's standards. A wave-off at the fantail was far more nip n' tuck then, than now.
And speaking of medium delivery, the FB-111 was one hell of a graceful plane in the air, even if it was a few tens of thousands of pounds too fat for either fighter or carrier standards.
That old saw about "if it looks right, it'll fly right", gave us one hell of a lot of absolutely beautiful planes, didn't it.

Apparently nutmeg takes a couple hours to produce any effects, so the trippers would decide the first dose wasn't working, so they'd take some more and . . . then ask a buddy to call 911 when the nausea really hit.

Well, i don't know. But one time in high school a friend and i were refused the sale of duct tape because we were under 18. When we asked why we were told it was because kids could roll it up and smoke it.
Well, being teenagers and having nothing better to do i guess, my friend decided to take some duct tape (which i guess we managed to get somehow!) and roll it up.
Well morons, let me share with you that we never could figure out how people smoked that, it just caught fire!

F-105D "Cherry Girl" had its nude nose art painted over while in Vietnam. Someone found it offensive because the naked gal had the probe refueling port right between her spread legs. After restoration with the nose art, it got censored again.
The amazing thing is the location of the refueling port of the F-105. It is located in front of the pilot and slightly to the left. Since it takes a 13ft ladder to get into an F-105 cockpit, the only people who would ever see the nose art are the guys in the boom operator's position on the KC-135s or in the tower.

When we lived on Lackland AFB, we had what I called "Dogfight Fridays." Almost every Friday, the F-16s would be up and chasing each other near our house (about 2 miles from the flightline). Fun to watch on a clear day from our yard.
But one Friday I happened to be walking though the kitchen, and there was a ear-splitting roar right above my head like the world had ended. I ran outside, thinking that our house had been hit or something, only to see the tail of an F-22 on afterburner as he was chasing down an F-16.
I think my heart started beating again once he was over the horizon.......

Amazing F8F footnotes. The US Navy granted Grumman permission to build for Al Williams a pure civilian Bearcat. Minus the armor and guns that thing was a ball of fire, it would scoot. Grumman also built from -1 and -2 parts another Bearcat that they used for company business.

North to 24, then through the tunnel. First exit. Go north into the hills.
There's talk about alternating sites each month, one north, one south. Apparently, about as many members live north of the Straits as down here, so the old location was a good compromise. It's gone now, so we need a new location. The general opinion is that the new site might be the best, as moving around would fragment the club, moving south would lose perhaps 1/3, and this new place seems to be an excellent fit ... and with barbecuing facilities.

I've seen maybe 15 minutes of Requiem. AvP was better but meh on later attempts to watch it. I liked Predators much more than either and really that holds the better premise for an AvP movie than having it take place on present day earth.

I went for my first run since surgery last November. It's a half mile walk to the greenbelt, and as I turned the corner to go from the sidewalk to the greenbelt, there's a family maybe 20 yards away, mom, dad, kid, dog. Dad has dog on a leash, but it's a retractable leash and he's paying attention to kid.
As I get closer, the leash keeps extending until dad and kid are on the far left of the path and the dog, a fat little bulldog, is on the right. Ok, no problem, I duck into the grass and keep going. About five feet away, dog charges me. There's a severe slope to my right leading to a drainage ditch. So I try to step past and over the dog, but I didn't quite make it.
He took a good bite to my left knee, and that fucker had a strong bite. Mom and dad were like "did he bite you?" No, dumbass, my leg just decided to start leaking fluid just now.
It's all good, I dumped some peroxide on the cuts after the run, and now it's just swollen and a little painful. But still, if you own a dog, don't be that dog owner.
I also realized how much I've mellowed out lately. A year or two ago I would have killed the dog and put the owner in the hospital.

The F-35 is only 5 years younger when the USMC went looking for a replacement for the AV-8 Harrier. That program was called Joint Advanced Strike Technology because USMC was teaming up with Britain. And the F-35 has followed the Eurofighter in missing its in service date.
Now compare to the LWF competitors. The YF-16 and YF-17. The requirements were issued in 1972 for the LWF. And the first YF-16 took flight in January 1974, a mere 22 months after General Dynamics had received funding with the YF-17 taking flight in June 1974. And by 1980, more than 100 F-16s were already in service with the USAF.

Bent the frame, and the rear half of the body is all racked out of shape. I was trying to explain this to someone the other day -- if you're thinking of threatening someone, or you're thinking of going lawless and doing some bullshit vandalism slapfight....kill him. It's a single act that will settle all claims, it's less traceable than repeated acts or vandalism, and it's less traceable than threats. Suing someone just creates a paper trail. And, chances are, if you're seriously considering killing someone, there are a couple of dozen other people also thinking about it -- and many of them will have stupidly threatened the guy or committed random acts of vandalism and would be better suspects.
But if it's not worth killing over, knock off the slapfights or petty crimes -- the price for such ineffective bullshit far exceeds any benefits. Write the guy a nasty letter or shoot out his windows, and you have a 50% chance of going to jail for multiple years. Show no emotion and shoot him the first chance you get, you have a 2% chance of going to jail for life (assuming you're smart enough to pick up your brass).

I walked a block down the street to the bar, met a neighbor there, and got a ride to my house, fetched the spare key, and the remote on it opened the door OK. Note to self: take key out all the way!

Actually, it's a revolver made by Dan Wesson. I forget the model, but you could adjust the cylinder gap enough to make the suppressor effective.

From what I've seen the implementation of micro-stamping is mainly micro-text on the tip of the firing pin (possibly 2D barcode patterns as well). Others methods involve the breech face or extractor. Note that all of these are vulnerable to a dremel or parts replacement. Which is legal...for now.

Even other animals he just wants to meet. "Oooo another dog" or "That's weird looking dog" for cats and other critters. If he howls its because he can't get to them. And very few will cause his hair to raise, and even then he is looking to sniff and say "Hello." I can't really think of a time he instigated an aggressive confrontation with another dog.

Was reading about the war on cash and it lead me to wondering about gold as currency. It mentions that in Atlas Shrugged so I'd been wondering since i read that recently but the details are really disturbing.

The only two stragglers now are Kasich and Carson, and I doubt they'll stay in the race much longer. I mean, what do you gain by slogging ever onward when there is zero chance of winning?
So that means Ye Shytte Has Gottene Real.
It's now a straight-up five-person race (I was gonna say "five-man race," but then remembered that Rubio is still but a boy), without any distractions.
Rubio will get the Bush voters, and Cruz will get the Carson voters, putting both within striking distance of Trump. On the Commie side, Comrade Sanders and Commissar Clinton remain essentially tied in every result and poll.
So not only are we in a five-person race, but a five-person head-to-head-to-head-to-head-to-head race, all abreast coming around the clubhouse turn.
Has this ever happened before in American politics? I don't think so.

It went on to become the most versatile airframe of the allies , if not all of the planes built during the war with the possible exception of the Ju-88.
Although considered obsolete by the start of the war the P-40 Warhawk/KittyHawk served in every theater of the war from beginning to the end. It just looks like a warplane from every angle to me.

Rubio's showing in SC depressed the hell out of me. With Bush dropping out, his votes will go to Rubio. Kashich won't be around much longer. His votes will go to Rubio. Carson's voters will be split among the other candidates.

I don't remember who it was, but somebody said here about six months ago or more that Bush was just a stalking horse for Rubio, who is the GOPe's real choice.
It made perfect sense to me. The idea is that conservatives would scream NOOOOOO at the thought of another Bush, but could be persuaded to "settle" for Rubio.
Expect to hear a lot in the coming days and weeks about how "electable" Rubio is.
