2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Monday, January 04, 2016 and I am back from visiting. I only gained 2 pounds in 4 days of visiting. On this day in 1889 the first Oklahoma Land Rush opened two million acres of unused Oklahoma Territory to first serve first come settlers on April 22.

45 Saudi Arabia 'cuts ties with' Iran. Sounds innocuous doesn't it? No more cultural folk dance camel racing melon sales, right?

Actually the Saudis have broken off diplomatic relations, closed their embassies, recalled their diplomats and ordered Iranian diplomats out of the country. That probably means Iranians can't go on hajj to Mecca because they can't get visas.

It's usually the last step before an open declaration of war. It probably means the covert war between Shia and Sunni has another playing field to contest.

It probably means the covert war between Iran and Saudi Arabia is about to become overt. It probably means Saudi Arabia will lose that war because the proxy wars that are already being fought aren't going well for the Saudis.

But we have fracking so no worries here, right?

we here have sometimes spoken of the

"NextDoor" neighborhood websites.

They truly are a blessing in disguise.
Every little SJW wannabe gets to climb on their NextDoor podium, and tell homeowners about how we are not entitled to what we own, and how diversity will save us from .......well...something.

And in true SJW tradition, they do come across as screeching harpies, very similar to that female University teacher who was made into a soviet style poster.

Unrecognized by the SJW, they are actually being found to be repulsive in their strident accusations that every white home owner secretly wishes to join the KKK.

81 The NAACP has never been successful with this strategy so I don't expect Baltimore to be successful. Places like Fiddlers Green and Section 8 housing has proved that you can not take lazy bums out of the urban jungles and put them in nice housing and expect them to change.

What this will ultimately do if they get a bunch of these in a good neighborhood is turn that neighborhood into yet another violent drug ridden slum just like the one they left.

91 Will the houses in the nicer areas around B'more be required to pay the same tax rate?
That was one of the problems with the forced housing loans be given to everyone/no down payment required mentality. Most of the houses were older homes (like mine) that need upkeep and maintenance. The people getting the loan have a combination of never owning a home plus have never maintained a home. The house starts to go to shit in about 5 years. They can't sell it for any kind of profit and walk away from the house.

95 When they talk about relocating them to affluent neighborhoods in the suburbs I assume they mean outside the city limits. So let's say they give them a $300,000 house in a local suburb and it is the typical FSA denizen with no job and no education because they dropped out of school at 17 while in the 8th grade.

No job and really doesn't want one. Who pays the electric bill, insurance, and taxes. I would estimate that taxes in suburban Baltimore would range multiple thousands a year.

So after a few months the electricity and other utilities will be cut off. After a year the taxes will go into default. And if they have laws similar to my county at the end of another year the house will go up for a tax auction. Of course by then the house will be thoroughly trashed and it will bring nothing even if they could find a buyer. Because all the other houses in this former affluent neighborhood have achieved similar status.

So in two years you will have a little Detroit, demolished homes that have been abandoned and have become a crack house.

100 Places like Fiddlers Green and Section 8 housing has proved that you can not take lazy bums out of the urban jungles and put them in nice housing and expect them to change.
____________________

This is the same kind of thinking that caused the mortgage meltdown. Idiots like Barry Obama and Chris Dodd and Ted Kennedy (with help from a lot of Republican idiots) were sure that the only thing keeping blacks from being responsible homeowners was evil banks who wouldn't lend to them (because the banks wouldn't consider their welfare checks as income, wouldn't overlook their criminal records or their poor job history or poor credit records, etc.). So they passed all sorts of laws forcing banks to make mortgage loans to blacks (and illegal aliens) who were terrible credit risks, with the rationale that once these people became homeowners they would somehow magically transform into responsible persons.

That scheme didn't work of course, so now the government wants to transplant shiftless, welfare-dependent, violent blacks and hispanics into affluent, mainly-white suburban neighborhoods, because re-locating them will somehow magically transform them into responsible persons.

Leftists just can't wrap their tiny minds around the difference between correlation and causation. They read stats that say that as summer temperatures rise, so do sales of ice cream and the number of violent crimes. Therefore, lefties want to ban the sale of ice cream to reduce crime!

Same with their housing policies. If stats show that homeowners tend to be more responsible people, then the way to make lazy and violent minorities more responsible is just to give them all houses! If people who live in the suburbs tend to be less violent and more responsible, then just move the violent, irresponsible, inner-city minorities to the suburbs! Problem solved!

I get the impressions they "rent" most of these houses to the Oppressed People, Vic.

That's "rent" as in: artificially low rates, subsidized.

Which means B'More is on the hook for the property taxes -- probably also at low rates thanks to "deals" made with outlying communities and counties -- and maintenance.

I seem to recall at least one of the Gifted Class saying they had had their gas/electric cut off at least once for non-payment. I'm sure there are subsidy plans for that, too.

I think it does, Vic. The amount of "assistance" given varies according to the locale. For example: as of a few years ago (when I lived in CA), Section 8 paid substantially more to Oppressed People in San Francisco than it did in L.A., simply because the cost of rent was higher there. IIRC, the difference was in the thousands of dollars/month.

121 The illegals in Atlanta are encroaching on nicer neighborhoods without the help of govt programs like Baltimore. The goal is to get their children into the better schools as anchor babies and semi-literate parents have pretty much destroyed the schools in the areas they have already overrun. They can't afford the nice houses but frequently there are apartments on the edge of these areas that are included in the better school districts. They have been flooding these apartments and living, as usual, with two or more families with a slew of kids in a single family apartment to make it affordable.

Many the schools are overflowing and starting to need trailers. Instead of asking why there are suddenly so many new students (due to sharing apartments and govt programs that make having babies easy of illegals) there are demands for more resources, axes, teachers etc. For the children. Pointing out, or even questioning why this is happening is racist and must never, ever be mentioned.

then just move the violent, irresponsible, inner-city minorities to the

This is a game of mental gymnastics which carries over even into military leadership.

Many...many years ago, the Navy had a voluntary Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) program.
It was voluntary.
A participant was required to master a fundamental knowledge of every system on the ship that they served on, from Engineering, to Weapons, to Navigation, etc.

Odd thing was, those who chose to take on this voluntary level of expertise were also the same Sailors who excelled in their chosen field, and statistically just higher performing Sailors.

So....the Navy made it mandatory, for exactly the same reason as stated above.

With the exact same predictable results.

Funny that.

Back in the day, we would tell the Ships Electricians Mates (EM) that the electrical motor smoke seals failed, allowing the smoke to leak out of the motor, causing it to stop working.

Once the smoke leaks out, the motor stops working.

The divide obviously involves both parties, and pretty much everyone hates the Progressives and Washington.

I noticed that some "news outlet" (think it was CNN) was headlining that the Bundy Mob took over a "federal building"!!11!!!!11!

These same people are still weepy and nostalgic over 60s protests that took over government buildings.

235 >>>>LOL, over in the Philippines they used to have a "delicacy" vendors sold
on the streets called a "balut". I watched a guy eat one and came close
to puking. It is a fertilized egg which has been buried in the hot sand
to "cure". It has a partially formed chick in it.
.
.
.My wife made Chief when she was stationed in the PI and had to eat Balut as part of her initiation. Little did they know she liked them.

This is why I can't forgive the DOPe. By refusing to do. their. job and put the brakes on a runaway Executive branch, they have emboldened this administration to a point that shooting will almost *have* to start. Much of the coming damage and sorrow will be the direct outcome of their cowardice.

242 The BLM thing is by Burns OR. It's the Malheur national forest.

243 Burns is where my grandparents lived until they moved in with my parents. Haven't been there for 20 years myself, but it sounds like there's hardly anyone there anymore.

244 It's hard to contemplate just how stupid leftists are regarding
economics and human behavior. What causes what, what leads to
unfavorable outcomes, etc. It's as plain as day to you and I, yet they
never see it. Total disconnect.

The left is not stupid; it is evil. All the bad results of their policies are not mistakes - they are the intended goal. I guess it will take you sitting in a Gulag to figure that out or will you then say: "If only Comrade Stalin knew what was happening." Thinking them stupid makes us the only stupid people in the country.

It is not cowardice; it is complicity. Do you understand what RINO stands for?
