26 oh, and to not be willowed in the last thread:

this is my theory about Trump.

Trump is an ox.

thank you, that was the clickbait.

Trump was essentially the typical apolitical millionaire. Willing to play the game by backing the correct stances to insulate himself and his business from regulatory attack

This is the "party liberal" stance - he's got money so he's petted and slapped by the powers that be so he can be milked and depended on for support in exchange for being allowed to continue on making millions that can be siphoned off to the parties with power to buy more power.

This is like owning a brace of oxen: they keep pulling the wagon and the plow because they get grain from their labor.
But Oxen rarely get the idea that they should cut out the middleman.

Trump, Bezos, Eich - formerly of his own company Mozilla, have all been beaten into giving to whoever has their hand out in response to being invited to some parties with the extra privilege of being hated behind their backs.

But the real fear the powers that be must have is:

What happens if some or every multi-millionaire with scads of REALLY COMPETENT advisors, and LOTS OF MONEY, and A WISH TO NO LONGER BE MILKED LIKE A COW, suddenly look at Trump and say, "thats it. I'm done with the clowns. If Trump can do it so can I"

Trump is just real estate magnate. He may be crude, he may not care about the little dominance games about supporting the right people or cause - he makes money, he likes managing businesses loves making them grow. He wants to be left alone and wants to see other people be as successful as he.

He is not unusual for what he is and what he has done.

the fear must be that he is the first serious breach in the dyke, and must be destroyed.

And perhaps Mr Heade can distract the Horde, if only for a time, from the political anal-ysis that was filling the last thread. If you wanna sound like you know what you're talking about, be sure you actually DO know what you're talking about!

For the record, I doubt that any of us has the whole thing really figured out, at least yet.

156 My problem with Trump can be spelled out in two words:

Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Another rich supposedly 'pragmatic' supposed 'Republican', who was said to keep a picture of Ronald Reagan in his office.

At the first hint of real opposition he rolled over and went full Democrat. His budgeting shenanigans soiled the GOP brand in California for a generation or more. And his mindless pandering on 'climate change' has given the state SJW bureaucracy a wondrous new tax regime to fund their pet stupidities. Not to say that some of these things wouldn't have happened anyway, but the GOP collapse wouldn't have been so sweeping or so extensive. When Jerry Brown sounds fiscally sane by comparison you know you've got a problem.

Is Trump real, or is he just a national Schwarzenegger?

You can't really get too far into the German "willing executioners" without counting the horrors committed, with or without Nazi help, in Poland, the Baltics, and Ukraine. Part of that must be due to the Czar's excesses in the Pale of Settlement, abusing both the Jews and the locals, but then, there is France. Seemed like the closer you got to the Med, the "softer" they were on Judaism.

In general, people just suck.

174 I think he dismissed the warrants for not paying fines. It means people must still come in and handle their cases and if possible being offered some alternatives.

In LA you can pay your fine by: jail community service, money, cal trans. And when you get picked up on a warrant, you will get credit for it. The system they have in MO is bizarre. But all those ahole legal eagles did nothing to address the problems affecting the poor/working poor. They like to scream and holler but the aclu and legal clinics are worthless.

Used to be MUCH bigger. Population in the hundreds.

There is another mining town not far away, called Johannesburg. Both were named by South African miners who came there to get in on the gold rush. The area never had what you'd call Big Strikes, but enough shiny stuff was taken out of the ground there to make the locals happy for a while.

Randsburg is a neat place, though. Can't tell you how many times I've been there, but I have lots of pleasant memories of the place and its surroundings.

First time I ever drove a car at over 200 mph was on the road from Randsburg back to Lancaster.

JEM, all you say about Arnie is true, my only trivial caveat is that the CA GOP was pretty much what it was anyway. Don't think its "brand" needed much trashing. CA coastal clueless culture is simply hamster-stupid when it comes to public policy. It's all bigotry, ignorance, social conformity. Look at the idiotic politics of the tech tycoons. Not limited to CA, but there aren't many actual citizens - just people who, when they engage with politics at all or vote, just emote and self-deal and vent their bigotries and parade their moral narcissism.

Partly because of this, Hispanics' views of most GOP candidates range from mildly positive to mildly negative. The sole exception is Trump, whose favorable rating with Hispanics is deeply negative."

(you know, like California will fine you $120 for some minor motoring infraction and then once the various bureaucracies get done slapping their fees on the bottom line is closer to $500...it is what the Australians term a rort.)

We didn't have a ton of Piracy/ treasure wrecks in the area, but there were some. If I were to find anything I'd expect it to be from a military or whaling ship, the bay was filled with privateers and whalers for centuries, many of whom disappeared with an occasional barrel stave or shoe washing up on the beach weeks later. 259 Trump is UNELECTABLE. A Trump nomination GUARANTEES that the Dems keep the White House and take back the Senate. Do you Trump supporters actually WATCH his speeches? How can any intelligent person support this horse's ass?
Posted by: NOT A JEB! SUPPORTER at August 25, 2015 11:39 AM (nFICN)

--I've only seen him speak at the NH Town Hall and the Alabama rally. Both were similar, but both are what we refer to as "stump speeches," designed to fit a template and address similar themes (e.g., he referred to Bergdahl on both occasions) to broad audiences. As he addresses more segmented groups, his speeches will --at least should-- adopt more focus and polish. Give the guy credit for not using Telebinkies and just relying on a note card or two.

Well, Bobby Jindal is a serious candidate if your criteria are in the realm of competence, intelligence and experience. Of course, I think that the chances of him becoming the GOP nominee, let alone President hover somewhere between slim and none.

I've watched as this country elected a bumpkin who was fucking his wife's hairdresser and a half black guy with no experience whose middle name was Hussein.

This country will elect anyone who captures their imagination.

270 Posted by: NOT A JEB! SUPPORTER at August 25, 2015 11:39 AM (nFICN)

I've learned a Trump candidacy isn't worth fighting about, especially since the point of argument is to persuade. Those who form the hard core of Trump's support are immune to any examples of his unfitness for the office you can find.

Nothing for it but to see how it plays out. The best test for any other GOP primary candidate is how well or badly he or she deals with the Trump phenomenon. For example, Rand Paul went after Trump in the first debate and came off badly becauuse he came off as petulant and shrill. Jeb! is doing badly against Trump because he stumbles when he's forced to go off script. All the big donor money in the worldwon't make a Bush--any Bush--articulate and hard-hitting.

Cruz, Rubio and Fiorina seem to be handling things well. So is Carson and--to a lesser extent--Kasich. Jindal is struggling, but not because of Trump. I don't give a damn about the others.
