".....Jenny Horne ("Republican") decided that she had had enough.

The 42-year-old lawyer from Summerville stepped up to the podium and delivered words so raw and impassioned they would immediately go viral on the Internet. More important, her four-minute speech would alter the course of the debate, and with it, South Carolina history. The state where the Civil War began, where Strom Thurmond presided as governor, and father of the segregationist Dixiecrats, a state steeped proudly in history and its symbols, disavowed the most freighted symbol of them all, the Confederate flag."

True, but I think that could also be said of the democrat party. Surely the people who voted for JFK are not comfortable with what their party stands for today. I live in a very democrat and union area (Detroit area) and I know many people fed up with Obama. They would not vote for Bush, but they would vote for Trump.

133 Initial unemployment claims are up yet again to 297,000, the highest since February, and we currently have 2.334 million receiving unemployment in the Country and according to the BLS this is indicative of a "firming" job market.

More people are filing new claims for unemployment than there are new jobs being created during the month and economists call that good because the number of new unemployment claims is below 300,000.

According to the BLS when it is all added up we have over 8 million adults in the Country that are out of work. The civilian labor force participation rate continues to decline.

167 Trump.

Dang. A person (alleged conservative) whose first instinct isn't to apologize for getting punched?

Wow.

I've never seen that.

Every GOP politician starts every interview with, "Well, first of all: Let me apologize for being alive. I know my very existence is offensive and hurtful to you and all your viewers."

A Trump--even as socialist Trump--would be better for the GOP than the current batch running. At least he wouldn't constantly act like he is embarrassed to be a Republican.

As was said in the morning thread: Trump isn't the problem, the GOP is the problem--they refuse to listen.

See, that should be the number one question every one should ask every GOP politician every chance they get: "Why are you proud to be a Republican?"

And anyone who doesn't relate the history and the principles and how that agrees with who they are as a person and instead talks about they they're going to do isn't a Republican, isn't a conservative.

Question: Hey, has this blog ever done a QA with a GOP pol? Is it kinda a 'scope of coverage' thing?

210 Trump's shtick will wear thin (for some it has already), but he'll certainly make it interesting while he's rudely interrupting the conversation that the other candidates and MSM would prefer to have.

Yeah, eventually he's going to let the mask slip and say something that infuriates conservatives and then he'll be the Worst Person On Earth again.

People are so swayed and impressed by someone who says what they want to hear, its ridiculous. Yeah its useful and amusing to have someone forcing the world to pay attention to topics they are trying desperately to avoid. But Trump's only value is to serve as a useful guide to GOP politicians: here's what resonates, maybe you should look into it.

Find the A-10 blueprints and build some new ones. Give them to the Army and Marines, not the AF.

Build more F-18's for the Navy. They should be more worried about the ChiCom carrier killer missiles anyway.

Build the Silent Eagle F-15 for the AF. It's probably not much worse than the F-35 and likely much cheaper. And if they complain about that, it's F-15's and F-16's from the boneyard for them. Spend money on a really long-range missile, like the old Phoenix, so they can basically be missile carriers. 20 planes each carrying, say, 4 100-mile-range missiles would ruin anybody's day. Make sure you have enough AWACS to do bistatic radar and such to help defeat stealth.

TRUMP: Sure, I was a businessman, guess I still am. But I was a businessman. I was with everybody. Everybody loved me. When I called them they always treated me well. And that's part of the game. And that's part of what's wrong with this country. Because as a businessman I could have gotten anything from anybody. And that is part of the problem. Lobbyists, donors, special interests.

TRUMP: I have given millions. I have given millions to everybody.

COOPER: So even though you are doing it, you say it is a problem.

COOPER: But you know, when you get on the stage during the debates and your Republican challengers are going to say look you are all over the place politically. You say you are a conservative Republican. You are giving money to Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi.

227 Judging by the actions of Boner and Bitch, {the GOP's purpose is to} fully pass Obama's legislative agenda while pretending to oppose Obama's legislative agenda.

See, if they had done that while in the great minority, I wouldn't have had as much of a problem. If the country goes nuts and votes one party in with overwhelming support, then the other party should go "okay, lets give this a try and see how it goes." Unless the legislation in question is grossly, obviously unconstitutional or horribly immoral, then they should shrug and go with it, or at best abstain. Because they are representatives of the American people.

But then the converse is true. once in power, they should push what they ran on and say they believe in, and the other party should say "OK let's give that a shot" unless its obviously unconstitutional, etc.

The problem here is that the party out of power instantly turns into the kneejerk opposition that tries to stop everything and make their opponent look bad. Instead of being representatives, they're warring factions. Instead of serving the people, they're serving their party.

And now, we have a GOP that when in power is acting the opposite: "I'll do whatever you want, master, and whups me some more!"

278 Why would such a smart guy, who thinks with precision, who deals in details, buy into vague meaningless bullshit like "we urgently need a visionary leader"?

Very smart people are often very dumb in areas they do not know or understand. In fact, the more focused you are in one area, the more likely you are to delegate other areas different from that to others you trust or that sound like they know what they're talking about.

That's why so many scientists signed on to global warming to begin with. When you're a chemist you know very little about climatology, but this guy's an expert, so why not trust him? "Sure, I'll sign that paper. Big problem. Now go away so I can get back to my work."

Happened a lot in science through the decades. Sometimes it becomes so entrenched and certain that people just assume it to be absolute fact and anyone who disagrees is some sister-marrying knuckle-dragging throwback anti-science religious freak.

279 262 -

Because most people need something to believe in and a symbol to rally around. Age, wisdom, and intelligence have nothing to do with it. Either you have that need, as most do, or you don't.

Obama came along as the living embodiment of both faith and symbology, and filled the vacuum no longer filled by religion, family, and patriotism.

281 There is no GoP candidate who doesn't fit that description, aside from the bankruptcy.

I admit I don't know their whole biography, but where exactly has Walker, Perry, Cruz, Jindal, etc used Kelo vs New London and violated various laws to get rich?

282 " It's like the global political class has already instituted one-world government and they're just waiting to make it official."

Mmmmm, yes.

Keeping a certain amount of controversy going as camouflage, but all agreeing on core values like "more power and higher taxes are good".

Kinda like R's and D's in this country, but on a grander scale.

283 The GOP isn't going to just fold its tent and go home quietly. After this massive betrayal of the electorate, what will they likely do to try to retain power?

I'm thinking insurgencies in both houses will topple the leadership. Boehner and McConnell will cry huge crocodile tears and retire. New leaders will apologize profusely and promise change.

We'll obediently vote for them again, and we'll once again get fucked for it.

286 >>And yeah, Trump's a horrible person. But a good person will not go to the lengths neccesary.

Rush was saying yesterday that no one was willing to go through the abuse that Trump has for speaking our against immigration; that the overkill response (MSM ridicule, every business dropping him as a spokesman, canceling contracts on Trump properties, etc.) was meant to send a signal to other candidates that this is what happens when you go off the reservation.

Here's the thing: how many nice, normal people are willing to bring that down on themselves intentionally like Trump has? Of course it's the loudmouth prick Trump who's doing this - normal people know better than to do it, because most are more vulnerable (because they care about public opinion or are not as rich and resilient and Trump).

From your fingertips to....well you know. Doubting that'll happen unless there is massive, massive electoral defeat of the GOPe in 2016. They've got it too good right now to effect any real change.

I have had a similar thought myself.

Knew a guy back in the 80's who would say "I've been a millionaire 6 times, and a bankrupt 5 times" .... don't know how he ended up, but for sure his approach to business was fearless and balls-out.
We could do worse in These Troubled Times.

If you're still reading and want a little local flavor let me know. I'll actually be near Point Judith this afternoon and I only live about 20 minutes away so I know some stuff about the area. Hell, it's RI. Nothing is very far away.

Anyway, this place is a must eat at. Some of the best seafood you will ever eat and not too far from PJ.

It has. What would you expect to happen end the end of days, just prior to the rapture, and the start of the great tribulation. Time is short. Short. Short. Choose your sides while there is still time. If you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as Savior do it now. Only other option is Satan in his many names. Only two choices.

309 I wonder when the tipping point will be reached. When Christians, whites and heteros will tire of the current 'hate whitey, hate tradition, hate religion, hate America' full court press?

Will they ever defend themselves from the onslaught of these accusations?

Or will they just continue to participate in a system that gives preferential treatment to the tiny minority until they are outbred and outnumbered by the radicals, illegals and SJWs?

Posted by: some random meathead - if you're not drinking, you're not paying attention at July 09, 2015 11:06 AM (ND90G)

As I intend to write about one of these days, the day has come where Christians must decide if they're going to abide by Romans 13, or resist the devil. They can't do both at the same time anymore in the US and A.

Abiding by Romans 13 now means letting evil win. Only way you stop that is to fight. Fighting means violating Romans 13.

Of course, preachers never point out that violating Romans 13 is EXACTLY what those old white guys did that some of us celebrate every July 4th.

Yet we cannot do the same today? Spare me. Especially with all the defiance to the SSM ruling, I'm curious as to how that chapter will be preached going forward.

312 I've been comparing the Republicans and Democrats to the East German Socialist Unity Party for quite some time now. The Republicans are vaguely more pragmatic but the only real disagreement is who gets to run the vast and ever expanding State.

I refer to this period in history as the Collapse. I dunno if it's an ideal term but it works for me.
