5 Who else thinks Republicans may be in a world of hurt after the last couple of weeks? A lot of social conservatives may be ready to just quit participating in politics at this point. The rest of the base is getting discouraged that all the GOP Congress seems to care about is helping Obama pass his agenda. It is not hard to imagine a significant portion of the discouraged and demoralized GOP base just simply not showing up in 2016.

Of course, that isn't true at all. The EU is still willing to loan Greece even more money but the Government of Greece is rejecting the terms of the loan.

There will always be someone to sell you your drug of choice, always. And there will still be people who will pay the price to get it, even if it kills them.

But it's not the addict nor the pusher who suffers. It's the innocent bystander.

I keep thinking about what happens if Social Security checks stop. And I look at the pictures on Shorpy of the migrant farm workers living in their cars during the depression. The husband's cheerful optimism that they will find the next job, that he can keep the car running to get them there, that life is still good. Meanwhile the resignation on the wife's face is obvious. What will she feed her children for supper with the few pennies she has left.

The last thing Israel wants to do is use nukes. Trying to think of ways in which they can use the MOP's. Strengthen the airframe, add bomb doors, better engines, etc. It's not an ideal platform for bombing (low wing) but it can lift the payload and has the range.

94 Is it realistic to assume that one of the next challenges based on the latest ruling will be the ability to marry a family member?

Say I have a father who is very ill and has no insurance and his medical costs are draining all of his resources. If I marry him (I do love him and after all, it's all about love), I can add him to my insurance, take him as a deduction on my taxes and all sorts of other accrued benefits.

Or say my mother has a large estate. If I marry her, then I will be the surviving spouse and avoid all the estate taxes.

On what legal grounds could I be denied?

Unless, of course, you were just a Hatey McHaterson.

It does matter, it matters more than anything else, we just can't win through the Republicans or Democrats. In becoming Democrats, however, the Republicans have made a critical error. They've become politically irrelevant. When parties have done that in the past, they've been replaced. See how the Republicans replaced the Whigs? Exactly that.

The Whigs had become irrelevant, and the passionate folks and the young created a Republican Party around the then-new Abolition movement, and the rest was history.

Spent some time with some of them this weekend.

Someone mentioned the mass importation of "dreamers" being plunked next door everywhere, and one of the Commies said, did you know that Obama has "deported more people than any other President?"

My reply: "That's a very interesting statistic." I did not add, "Are you including all of the deadly enemies of America he's been freeing from Guantanamo?"

Mom has strict rules about discussing politics in her house, that people used to obey, but both sides broke the truce, at times, over the weekend. I think we may be in for war.

With the exception of Han and the X-Wing fighter, the Rebels are kind of flouncy, priggish, self-righteous and prone to using over-complicated battle plans. The opposite of badass.

The Empire is badass personified, smothered in evil secret sauce. They're so badass, that they fall prey to the one great weakness of badassery, overestimating their strengths and underestimating their enemies.

Really?

* whips out umpire's whiskbroom from back pocket, dusts off soapbox and climbs on *

I don't know what "they" you're talking about, but I sure hope you're not saying that non-traditional naming in marriage is, in and of itself, indicative of some sort of emasculization. Them's fightin' words!

I'm from (or tail-end of) that generation that said, "Question Authority." Some took that as "Reject Authority," but I took it literally. I questioned, vigorously, and what I found was, Authority was sound thinking in most cases.

Some few things, not very important things, were merely traditional, not really vital.

Milady and I, once we got over living together (don't do it, kids), struggled with the name thing. She was well aware that keeping "her own" name was just keeping her father's name. (A snark folks always have had, and was made here just a few days ago.) In fact, her family last name had no tradition: it was something made up by her grandmother, possibly to avoid the likely true last name which was South American. ("White Hispanic," y'might say.)

But in one generation, her family made that name theirs, proudly. They're good folks. I could understand that name-pride, even if it can't be traced back to before the Pilgrims landed like my patrilinear heritage.

So, she went by her name and I went by mine, and the family name was hyphenated. Caused about as much confusion and problems for the world as... Y2K. Which is to say, occasional trivial hassles, no real problems.

We went even further. Our daughter's given last name is Milady's (even worse: daughter and Milady both share my MiL's name, so daughter is a III'd). Our sons' last name is mine. (There was that worrisome time before the boys were born... what if we had no sons!)

The family name is, we're all MyLastName-HerLastNames (yes mine first, sounds better mwah ha ha). I don't think the kids were damaged by this. Everything else, certainly, just not that.

I don't recommend it. I don't care what anyone else does. But that's my report, h8rs, and if you want to take my man-card over this, you'd better bring an army.

* stumbles backward off soapbox and falls in an undignified heap *

Billable hours of screaming, crying, and domestic violence leading to criminal billable hours and personal injury billable hours of jail house beatings by other prisoners. The possibilities are endless. My favorite divorce story is a woman whose husband left her for his gay lover but left his boa constrictors in her care (and his biological children). The spurned woman carried his snakes out in the front lawn and chopped them up with an ax. And left them there. He tried to get some huge amount of money from her for his damages. The divorce court informed him that they were community property and left in her custody so it was her choice to dispose of them as she saw fit.
