Early Morning Thread 3/14/15: Home Again Home Again,Jiggety-Jig. [krakatoa]

I'm back from San Antonio, no longer sick as a pig.

Last 2 weeks are an utter blur, and judging from the headlines over that span, it's just as well.

My day is going to be delicious -- slow roasting a home-brined brisket for an early St Patty's day feast with visiting family.

Here's hoping you all find yourselves with as happy a weekend ahead.

10 Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, March 14, 2015. On this day in 1900 William McKinley signed into law the Gold Standard Act of 1900. The price of gold was set at $20.67 per troy ounce. The US under FDR went off the gold standard in 1933 when FDR signed an EO to outlaw ownership of gold by citizens. This order was obviously illegal but he was a saint by Democrat standards and still is. At the time the price of gold was STILL $20.67. IOW no inflation.

Gold is currently at $1159 and going up as the US monetizes its increasing debt under the Choom King. Kings may come and go but this shows that despite political hot air, printing hoards of fiat money results in massive inflation.

16 The black teen who led the 6 person attack on a 15 year old class mate in a Brooklyn McDonalds will be charged as an adult. She has a rap sheet a mile long, including one case where she stabbed her brother with a knife. That was a felony assault but what she got was "disorderly conduct". This is what you get when you coddle young criminals who are raised on the "street". You can call it "Queen of the Flies". BTW, this would have met the classification for "lynching" in SC and would carry a major felony sentence.

18 The Choom King and Queen Mooch took separate planes to CA for TV appearances on the same day at public expense. This is another case of a campaign related trip illegally paid for with government funds. And this time there was no government related tid-bit of action he could use to justify the expense be paid for by the taxpayer. But any action to stop this shit is "off the table".

Just about anything up to Jerusalem looks like it would be almost 8 hours of driving and make it a two day trip. As insistent as my host is to give me a tour (he said he will hire a tour guide and drive us and his wife around) I think that things in the south might be best. If things go great on the project and it does not require any herculean last minute programming, then I might be free to roam.

64 Good morning. It's raining and my crawlspace is getting wet.

Back in 2006 I had a French drain and sump pump installed. It worked fine for awhile but sometime last summer I noticed that I wasn't hearing the sump pump when it was raining hard. I opened the door and sure enough, the crawlspace was flooded. After it dried out I went down there with a hose and filled the sump. The pump came on and worked normally. I did that a couple of times and everything seemed to be OK.

Since then, I haven't had a heavy rain, and didn't get all that much snow during the winter, so conditions weren't right for flooding. I just looked this morning and saw at least three areas on the floor that were getting wet. It does not look like the sump is overflowing. Now I'm thinking that the pipes are blocked somehow; maybe silted up, and the water isn't getting to the sump. What do you think? Should the pipes be blocked only eight years after installation? What should I expect to pay to get this fixed?

It has really gotten dusty here all of a sudden.

Posted by: Hanoverfist at March 14, 2015 08:15 AM (YCG8H)

73 rickl, if you have a stone-filled sump, there's a fair chance the voids have silted up. If they are contained in something water-resistant, it might be worth while to attempt flushing it with a LOT of water. Once the frost is gone. If that does not work, the stone will have to be dug out and the pit cleaned. Screens on the inputs help, but it depends on how fine the silt is.

Frost is an odd state of matter: it's ice in soil, so, partially insulated, and not exposed to sun like surface ice and snow are. And as soil moves, it can become compressed, and more resistant to thawing. Near Independence Rock in Wyoming there are spots where there is frost in the desert-like soil a foot or two down, in mid-summer.

It's normal for drainage systems to be frozen this time of year. When they clear, it's pretty much all at once. I struggled with that last year (drain tubes, even if under the frost line, will have feeders from the surface basins, which pack with snow and glaciate, duh. Thaw has been quick so far, and I have been lucky so far.

yeah detailers and recruiters have a funny definition of the "Truth". But hey it's all a game.

No. I'm sick, that's why not. I've got an earache.

81 So we had dinner with the educated Asian woman up the street last night.

Topic of Ferguson comes up, and I explain the desire to have separate black police/courts/ shadow mayor and so on.

She continues to nod sagely while I specifically mention the term "separate, but equal", without the term ever clicking with her. Her twenty something son is silently chuckling away. And when I mention the question of if they want Black only drinking fountains, she wrinkles her head, trying to noodle it out, and her son falls on the floor laughing.

Of course, it took her seven years to admit last night that her girl Hillary is lying skin bag, wrapped around a box of lies.......
that lies a lot.

Thanks. The pump is at the bottom of a plastic bucket-type enclosure. It is fed by perforated pipes running along the foundation.

I hadn't thought about frost. So you think I should wait until it gets warmer before calling a plumber?

85 I was initially surprised but on thinking it over, the flag being reserved for humans is appropriate, I think.

I don't know the split, but not all K9 dogs are being brought back. I've read reports that atleast some are left in-country. That isn't happy news, especially given the Muslim attitude toward dogs.

I am trying to get both my daughters to join up. One is about to graduate with a Masters in Occupational Therapy and the other an MBA. So Supply Corp and Medical Service Corp. And they both asked me can they pick where they go and I just chuckled.

90 I hate this rain. So depressing. And it's the fault of you carbon burning denialist traitors. The huge quantities of rain lately just aren't natural. Must be global warming.

92 You trusted us when we said it would rain today, and we were right as we always are. Yet you refuse to believe us about the catastrophic effects of AGW? Why? The cognitive dissonance must be deafening to you. You may all be dead before Kansas is beach front property, but what about your kids, you selfish bastards?

93 Dog doesn't rhyme with jig, so it was out.

Not smoking the brisket. One: It's our first home-brined brisket, so we wanted to test our solution without being fooled by smoke flavors. Two: I wanted the house to smell incredible.

Anyone have any thoughts on using the left-over brine solution for anything else? I've boiled it & strained it through cheese cloth and it tastes fantastic, but salty of course.

I was thinking it might be nice to add some to the potatoes we'll be using for colcannon.

As if we can't recognize the fruit born from "the grown-up" poison plan, by no means limited to one bush or another name.

Make up rules for the masses which the rule-makers NEVER observe themselves.

Not in THEIR back yard, let alone THEIR office or home. Close the gates!

'The grown-up plan' from the clique who won't let you into their elitist club. Long before 2000, their "grown-up" from corruption club (bipartisan uniparty) have been labeling "vigilantes" for still believing in the US Constitution, for
volunteering real-time border visual sighting information to the Border
Patrol for law enforcement.

Your vote is no longer counted. The illegals won't be, either. Predetermined results, as Stalin explained: WHO counts the votes determines the vote. Elections are deconstructed theater featuring Squirrels!

Jesus called the corrupt body of law makers and law enforcers vipers, the worst hypocrites imaginable, worse than barn dogs who themselves refuse to partake of truth, and are so ugly as to prevent ANYONE from participating in truth.
