Antibiotics and codeine.

Yummy codeine.

I had one of my coughing spells right there in the doctor's office, which was handy. "I have this congestion in my throat, and this urge to cough, and it builds up and builds up and then I cough until..."

Coughcoughcoughchokecoughhack.

"Uh, pretty much like that."

I can't remember the last time I had to get a prescription filled. My medical needs in the last 15 years have consisted of (a) eye checkups and (b) getting my ankle looked at after falling down three flights of stairs.

1 If you've never taken codeine before, prepare to be knocked on your ass. Depending on the dosage, you're going to be doing a lot of sleeping. And the rest of the time you're going to be woozy. It'll control your cough, that's for sure, but it's going to control you too.

2 It's not straight codeine, but Panadeine Forte, which is 500mg paracetamol with 30mg of codeine.

Still, that's more than twice the strength of any painkiller I've tried before.

3 Codeine is the Devil's syrup. I can't take it without tons of strange reactions: nausea, hands and feet getting numb and going cold, vertigo. Ibit my tongue a half-dozen times because I couldn't feel it. All in all not a pleasant experience I'd ever like to repeat.

4 I seem to be experiencing the opposite. For me, it just isn't doing anything. Maybe it cured my headache, but since I didn't have a headache, that's not really a major accomplishment.
