Why Do They Hate Us Three?
While I've been busy slapping down American journalists and academics, Gregory Djerejian has been doing the same to European diplomats, who are, if anything, worse:
As older societies, we tend to think of ourselves as more experienced in the way societies evolve, and we tend to be skeptical of Americans who seem to think that if you believe hard enough, and you muster enough resources, you can change the world.Wolfgang Ischinger, German Ambassador to the United States there. Thank you Ambassador Ischinger. We well remember your country's last two attempts to change the world. Or to put it another way: How dare you? How dare you? Your country launched two world wars, completely destroyed Europe, systematically slaughtered twelve million civilians, and paved the way for the Soviet domination of Eastern Europe that lasted for decades. How dare you lecture the country that twice saved you from your insanity at immense cost to its own people, and then when you were threatened from the outside, put its troops in harm's way again, without thanks, without reward, for fifty years. Older society? Older in terms of what? Interminable meaningless warfare? The United States Constitution was signed almost a century before Germany ever existed as a nation. Experienced in the way societies have evolved? Oh yes, we've seen that evolution at work. We've seen all we ever want to see of your experience. Skeptical, you say? The Americans have damn well proved they can change the world. Unlike your nation, they have changed it for the better. Fuck you and your skepticism and your miserable bigotry, Mister Ambassador. Fuck you very much.
