This is my second Friday today...

I got up a 5am, didn't much care for the weather, among other miscellaneous things and, after Eric left (with Liarguy) for the Harrisburg Farm Show, I went back to sleep til just a while ago.

Not raining (as much) this time.
That's better.

This Friday is much more do-able than that other one, earlier.

Know what else this Friday is?

My last one off til God-knows-when.

Now, before I explain that, I've gotta impart two tiny yet signifigant details that were in my mind and part of my decision.

First off, the other day I was standing in front of the schedule, staving off starvation with a few cucumber slices and I noticed that The Rock works M-F, 5a-2p. Killer schedule, if you can get it. Of course, he's been a part of this place since he was about 13, so I can see why he's got that. Plus, he's about the best waitER (meaning GUY) I've ever worked with. He's nice, he helps ya out with shit, he gets tipped half to death.. he really is a good kid. Anyway, I noticed that he had that kickass schedule.

Then, later on, I heard another of the guys, a kid even younger than The Rock who usually works 3-?, saying that he'd asked Boss Lady if he could pick up Saturday mornings and she'd said nuh-uh. I didn't really hear why, wasn't too concerned with it, either. He, too, has been there longer than me and I know he's gotta be faster at this shit than I am, he doesn't need to ask so many questions and shit and he's good at it, too, so it just kinda stuck in my mind that he'd been turned down.

Then, yesterday.... the minute the Boss Lady walked in the door, she had a question for me. As she was taking off her coat, she asked me if I'd (pleeeeze) take Friday mornings, too.

I was pleasantly shocked by that.

I told her the flat out truth about how I feel about it all, which can be summed up thusly:

I'd love the money, sure. And, I'm pretty certain I can handle it physically *rolls eyes*, HOWEVER, the one thing that's kept me from being 100% about it is that cook.
The nutjob.
You know.

I told her that if we could have some kind of understanding that if 4 days of him a week is too much, I can go back to 3 days, as opposed to get fired, then I'd do it.

She said it'd really make things tons easier for her as far as scheduling, so, yeah, we'll figure something out, if need be. I'm safe.

I like her.
*grin*

So, starting next week, I'll be M,T,Th,F 9-4. Guessimating at the money leaves me kinda spacey. Even at the minimum, it'll be a LOT, to me, anyway. Especially since it's only 28 hours a week.
And, how close is THAT to The Rocks (hard-earned and well-deserved) schedule? Shiiit. I've only been there about two months... *fans self rapidly*
And, I have this embryonic idea that if I'm gonna be working 4 days a week, I might oughta be walking the other three and maybe I can get some of the back 40 off of me.

We shall see.

In the meantime, I can barely believe this is the middle of January. It was fifty degrees when I left work yesterday. Today it's cold and rainy, naturally since I'm off, and I think most of next week is supposed to be more or less the same.

We really do need to get this over with now, before it's snowing all summer.
Ya know?

I mean, hell, I love this "no snow" stuff, but I'm also not stupid enough to believe it's just gonna go on and be Spring without elephantass deep snow more than once. I'd rather just do it now than worry about it til August.

On the other hand, this has proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that before I die, I HAVE TO live someplace where snow is a novelty... where Santa wears shorts... where ya decorate a palm tree for Christmas.
Mulah a weekie maka, indeed, Don Ho.

Anyway...
I've gotta go feed da horsies, cash a check and go to the grocery store. Yeah, I usually do that like Eric Clapton (After Midnight), but I need to talk to the manger, Bill, again.
Not about a job, this time, but about Venison jerky.

They sell it there, from a place called Shaffer's Venison Farm and it needs to be restocked, badly. I called Shaffer's and they haven't called me back yet, but Eric found them at the Farm Show and just told me a few minutes ago that the lady there said it's not a vendor item, that they (the store) have to order it.
Okay.
Well... the other day, a random Meat Dept. dude told me it IS a vendor item, which is the typical excuse for shit like this when they don't know. Always blame the other party.
Like when they "forgot" to order Grand's Corn Muffins. Idiot dairycase dork told me Pillsbury quit makin' 'em.
Well, you can bet yer ass I called Pillsbury, RIGHT THEN (the 800 number is on the product, assmunch), and they most certainly had NOT quit making corn muffins, so yer BUSTED, jerkweed.
Now... ORDER 'EM.
And, yes, they are back and have been since.
That was about a year ago.
I guess it's time for some more edu-ma-cation for these people.
(And, they wouldn't hire me back because why?)
*giggling my ass off*

Horses, gotta go feed da horses.

Ah hell, I forgot one thing... this warm weather is not only kinda nice, it's also afforded me four (so far) of my absolute favorite harbingers of Spring... Hyacinths.
God DAMN they smell good and I've got four of the little boogers on my desk. Gonna get some more if they have any, too. No such thing as too many of these.

I'm outta here.

Peace, y'all...

1 If the cook gives you any shit, you can practice your frisbee technique on him.....

3 You better hope to hell the prevailing winds don't manage to blow you what we've got. It was -40 this morning on the way out the door. Same thing yesterday, and been hovering near there for over a week.

By Monday though, we're supposed to be above freezing! Talk about fucking with the metabolism. (Not to mention the wardrobe)

Heh - your work schedule's pretty much identical to mine now. Hope 'da cook' survives his first week with the new sched. I'm a damn site more concerned about him than you!

Asking questions at work is almost never a bad thing, I've found. Repeatedly asking the same questions however, deserves an ass kicking.

Enjoy the extra loot!
