Have ya ever...
been so bunged up/annoyed/incredulous that you just aren't quite sure how to start?
God, I hate that shit. I sat here for the longest time, trying to come up with an alternate title for this post.... I just didn't know where to start. My original title was "Fuck a clue 'stick', let's try a club, shall we?", because the subject matter really pissed me off when it happened and it still bugs me today. Then, shit like this comes up and gggrrrrr. I get too pissed to even want to try sorting it all out and being concise and not cussing so much that it takes away from the point. (I do do that....) The subject matter also gives me pause for thought, because of the original subject matter. Said incorrectly, this whole goddamned thing could get somebody severely hurt. Now, truthfully, there are only two people involved here that I care to ty to protect that way... me and Rob. Anybody else who gets 'offended', has their own issues, because, while you might figure out who my "representitive dillhole" is, I'm not using any names or links to this person and I don't even know who everybody else was, because pretentious, sanctimonius people bore me, so I don't read them, hence did not see for myself what they were doing. One guy, however, stood out. He kinda wanted to, with the thing he was runnning and he certainly was not the least bit demure about de-linking Rob and never shutting up about it, but, when the same thing is said by someone else, it's not even acknowledged in any meaningful way. Tell ya what... this may take a minute, so let's go sit on the porch and get comfortable, okay? Don't forget your beer...Okay... a few months ago, Rob did a post that pissed off a few people. I, myself, wasn't bothered by it for several reasons, not the least of which is that I knew Rob was pissed when he wrote it, for one thing. You spend the previous two years reading a guy and you get to where you can tell the difference in the various feelings one might bring to their writing. You get to know their moods. You get a handle on their experiences and world or life view, especially when it's as personal-as opposed to, say, political or news- a blog as Rob's. You, if you care to and I do, can get to where you can "see past the bullshit" to what a person is really saying. I know this, because it seems to be required of people who wanna be around me. Ask Eric. (For the record, when I get that way myself, I feel like a profane Julia Sugarbaker (Dixie Carter, Designing Women) when she got 'riled'. Eric calls me "Acidwoman". Same idea, different perspectives...)
For another thing, I could easily see past that fuckin' WORD to the truth behind the real point, which was- in a nutshell- if you waste all your energy bitchin' about some imagined debt yer owed by the world at large and are too busy tearing your own self apart to make your life be what you want it to be, it's nobody's fault but your own. That ANYBODY, let alone a GROUP of people acted the way those jocks did is really, really bad. They have simply GOT TO learn better coping mechanisms for LIFE than that horseshit. People who do that kind of shit, people who actually think that that is any kind of way to be are, left to their own devices, very dangerous, very scary sons-a-bitches. They're the ones who wind up either in jail for life or dead before they're 25, before they ever had the maturity to even start to try to pull their heads outta their asses. It's scary, it's sad and it's also true. Rob was right. They were wrong. End of story.(Not.) Due to the use of one particular word, out of the probably MILLION words the man has written, due to the repetition of that one word, the point got lost to all but the few, the proud, the Marines... no, the intelligent enough to friggin' "get it". And, by the way, how ANAL must one be to have actually counted the number of times that word was used? Christ in a detached sidecar, careening wildly outta control. Get a fuckin' GRIP, people. (Them, I mean... the sanctimonius, PERFECT ones among us. *shudder*) I've read, and used myself, the word "sheep" in conjuction with those mindless delinkers. Closer to the truth is the comparison of these people to lemmings. One jumps off a cliff, they ALL jump off the cliff and were we not, as children, told that doing a thing just because "everybody else was doing it" was stupid, brainless and that it demonstrated a marked lack of being able to think for oneself? Yes, we were. It was seen as an obvious sign of immaturity. So, what? Ya think it stops applying when ya turn 18, or something? It holds for adults, too. Maybe that's the difference between an actual ADULT and someone whose numerical age says they're an adult. One of the many differences, I suppose. Anyway, when Rob posted about Bill Cosby's speech and Mr. Cosby's use of that word and the deafening, roaring SILENCE it fostered, that post got trackbacked by a coupla people. One had a comment under his post, left by the guy who has pissed me off here. After all the shit that dude (the commenter) had to say about delinking Rob and the at least week long campaign he had to find a "replacement" for Rob, after the sheer VERBOSITY of this person, his comment about the whole Cosby/Rob post that the trackbacker did was to ask, like a great big DORK, whether or not Cosby's remarks would end up in Barlett's quotations. Now, why should Rob be publicly ostracized and Bill Cosby be quoted in a book? Because one guy is white and the other isn't? Both men used EXACTLY THE SAME WORD. Isn't that blatant RACISM, Mr. Delink-Somebody-For-The-(alleged)Exact-Same-FUCKIN"-Thing? You asshole. Thank you for, in one sentence, totally justifying my complete dismissal of asswits like you. You rail about something one time and it's perfectly okay the next. It all depends on who's doing it. What a despicable, hypocritical, utterly BALL-LESS way to be. When people who think like THAT are in charge, everything goes to hell pretty quickly. Don't believe that? Take a look at the government. When presented with an opportunity to learn, or grow up a little or maybe gain some perspective, it's routinely overlooked, as it was in this case, by these people. They're the ones who want to call everybody else out on every perceived "wrong", yet cannot admit their own nor want to be held to the same standard. The best they can ever come up with is some stupid non-sequitur, or flip remark, that's meant to change the subject. Homey don't play that.
(Now, call ME rascist, cocksucker.) (Oops. Guess ya may as well add 'homophobe', now that I went and used that particular word, huh?) If you wanna be all loud and public when tearing a person down, the least ya oughta be able to do is be AS loud and public when YOU are the one who's proven wrong. The lack of outrage directed towards Cosby proves what the real injustice is in this case. Simply not acknowledging when you're wrong doesn't mean you're not wrong. Quite the contrary, actually. Many times, silence or avoidance of an issue implies or can even be seen as evidence of guilt. And, don't even waste my time with that shit about not seeing a defendant's lack of testifying as an assumption of guilt. I know we're not supposed to do that just as well as I know we all do still do it. Changing the subject to avoid acknowledging ya mighta been wrong is juvenile. Literally... kids do that. It's the only defense some people leave themselves. I don't like those kinda people. Truth be told, I'd rather be at a rally of gay black men* and guys who think like Rob than anywhere near even ONE person like those delinkers. (*Before you get all outraged, see the above parenthetical remarks to understand why I said this this way, okay?) *several minutes and deep breaths later* Aaahhhh. I feel much better now. And, I don't even expect any kind of intelligent answer to my question. The people who think like the delinkers, and especially this one, don't have the mental capacity to even HAVE an answer and the people who didn't delink Rob probably can't even wrap their minds around where this dude and others of his ilk are coming from in the first place. I know I can't. I just wanted to point this all out and try to, once again, educate the hopelessly inane. That is all.

I remember the post you're speaking of and while I don't particularly like Rob in general, I felt he spoke a truth that most people don't want to look at. But I do have to say I didn't like his use of the "N" word, if only because (to me) it represents racism, slavery and repression. It is considered to be derogatory. I know black people say it to each other all the time, but it has a different meaning in that context. Cosby shouldn't have used it, either. He could have made his point without it, but since he did, you're quite correct about the hypocrisy involved.
As for the delinkers, well, there tends to be a lot of that "jumping off the cliff" thing whenever there's a big controversy in the blogoshere. One or two people delink a certain blogger for what they feel are valid reasons and a whole flock of delinkings follow by people who want to be seen as "cool". Kinda reminds you of high school. Sad that we can't seem to evolve past that mentality.
Ok, I'll shut up here, but again, great post.

I admit that I have practically NO clue as to what exactly is happening but it's something along the lines of Person A used ****** in a post and Persons B thru Q are 'offended'. Is that right?
Now, if that's correct and Person A used ****** in a context --> "blah blah blah said ******* blah blah blah" -- then there's no harm IMO. But if Person A used ****** as in "blah blah blah you dumb ignorant ******!!!!", then there is a problem.
However, I don't think that the second case is the one that we're dealing with (doesn't Mikey ever SHUT UP??!) since you're not that type of lady to defend someone being a gutter-mouth.
Well, now I think I'm really confused.....good post though.

In the original post, that word was used numerous times. I think that, rather than the context in which it was used, is what got everybody stirred up. It was used as an adjective, more or less. If I remember correctly, there were even quotation marks around the phrase in which it was used the most.
There were a few people who, in Rob's defense, pointed to the 1st Amendment. I (silently) agreed with that, but couldn't help ending the thought with, "Still..." Know what I mean? It's just not the way I'd have put it, maybe. But, knowing how well spoken he usually is, I didn't choose to be horrified by this one post.
To my way of thinking, the reaction it got said more about the people who freaked than it did about the use of the word in the first place. Especally if you looked past it to the point, the real truth of the post.
So, in a real sense, I'm neither defending the use of that word, nor screeching about it. That's not my point, for one thing. For another, I think my views on that word can be very well ascertained by how often I use it... *wink* Just because I don't, doesn't mean I have any right to censor anybody else and I'm not gonna blow off a person like Rob over something like that.
So he said something in a brutally frank, raw and 'not p.c.' way. Honestly, who among us hasn't, in one way or another and probably more than once? Maybe you or I don't use that exact word, but, if you've responded in any kinda honest manner to 'yer basic troll' (and who hasn't?), I can guarantee, SOMEBODY could get themselves all het up over a word or two that was used.
My biggest point with this post is to point out the utter and blatant hypocrisy, double standard and even racism that is all over this situation like stink on shit.
We have Mr. Perfect delinking Rob and making a huge public deal about it because of the word Rob used, then when someone else uses the same exact word, in the same exact context, that same guy who wanted to publically flog Rob thinks the second guy oughta be quoted in Bartlett's Quotations. The absolute ONLY difference between the two people who "publically" used that word is that one is white and the other isn't.
Da fucks up with that?
I smell bullshit in staggering amounts and it's coming from the direction of those delinkers. This guy certainly doesn't have a monoploy on it, but his sure is the most fragrant/flagrant.
I'm just sayin'...

Got-damn! Such people have turned our language into a PC tap-dance. I refuse to hop to that jig.
OOPS! Did I just drop another racial insult?

And, probably, but, ya know what?
Fuck 'em.
We try to speak in such a manner as to please everybody, not only will every point be lost before it's even thought of, we're also gonna sound even sillier than, again, Mr. Cosby on his "Himself" album when he talks about how retarded you sound trying to edit yourself while talking to a child. "Why, you little..." "You rotten son-of-a..." " I oughta kick yer..."
There's a LOT of truth in humor....
Unfortunately, for some, there's not a lotta humor in truth, though. Maybe that's another reason why they find it so hard to handle.
